NOTE: This is a revised and re-edited version of my novel originally published in 2012 under the pen name Jo Ramsey.

Excerpt:

“We haven’t much choice this time,” he replied. “It’s either that or encounter a mob even angrier than the last one. And this time, if you opened your mouth, I might not be able to save you.” He raised an eyebrow. “Unless you think you can remain absolutely silent no matter what is said.”
I knew myself a little too well. There wasn’t a chance of absolute silence, especially if someone questioned me or insulted me the way they’d done the night before. “Let’s try the teleportation, then, as long as it doesn’t cost me my job.” Or my existence, since breaking yet another rule wouldn’t look good on my record.
“It won’t,” he assured me. “You’re with me.”
He gripped my hand more tightly, and before I had a chance to react, we stood in my kitchen. Even here, the noise of the crowd filtered through the windows. Apparently the demonstration had expanded to even the bad neighborhoods.
“Are they going to be at it all night?” I needed my beauty sleep, after all.
“It’s likely,” Ghast replied. “Tomorrow, you’ll be given an assignment at work.”
It took me a second to follow the change of subject. “Yeah, the supervisor told me.” I wondered briefly how Ghast knew about it, and decided I’d be better off not asking.
“Take it,” he said urgently. “Regardless of what it entails, regardless of where in the Midworld it lands you, take it. Nothing is as it seems, and the assignment will be your safe passage out of here until the situation is contained.”
“Um, Ghast?” I propped my elbows on the counter and rested my chin on my hands, blinking at him. “You’re obviously not familiar with how the whole vengeance thing works. Most assignments only take a short time. Not even a day. I’d have my ass, I mean butt, kicked halfway across Hell and back if the one I’m given tomorrow takes more than a few minutes.”
“Nothing is as it seems,” he repeated. “Your supervisor believes he is giving you the lowest assignment, the easiest one, available. He is wrong.”
“Um, okay.” I’d never seen such intensity in Ghast, and it worried me. To break the moment, I straightened up and went to the fridge to see what kinds of beverages I had. “You want anything?”
He didn’t answer. When I turned, he’d vanished. It was just like Ghast to disappear after giving me such a ridiculously cryptic bit of information.
I spent the rest of the night trying to figure it out, and had no more clues when I went to bed than when he’d said it.

My Personal Review for Tofurkey & Yams by Karenna Colcroft

I fell in love with the characters in author Karenna Colcroft's Real Werewolves Don't Eat Meat Series. The first book had me giggling, sighing and wondering if I could find a Tobias of my own. In this holiday story set between books 1 and 2, we find Kyle finding out just why his mate hates Christmas.

My Rating for Tofurkey and Yams: 3.5 Stars

Kyle Slidell’s favorite holiday is Christmas. So when he surprises his werewolf lover, Tobias Rogan with Christmas lights and a tree, he finds himself torn between anger and fear for Tobias doesn’t react like Kyle thought he would. Instead Tobias disappears and when Kyle finally finds him on Christmas Eve, it is up to Kyle to show Tobias that he can make new memories of the holiday…with his mate, Kyle.

Karenna Colcroft’s Real Werewolves Don’t Eat Meat series is a riot. There is humor, mystery, action and lots of man lovin’. In this quick short novella set between book 1, Salad on the Side and Book 2, Veggie Burgers to Go, we find Kyle and Tobias having their first Christmas together. Too bad no one bothered to tell Kyle that Tobias hates the holidays with a passion. I have to stress you should read book one first in order to get what some past events Kyle and Tobias mention in this story are about.  The story flows smoothly and there is humor, passion and fear. This is a story that will leave you breathless until the very end.

Kyle was turned into a werewolf in Salad on the side and finds a mate in Tobias, the local pack alpha. But man, poor Kyle who loves the Christmas holiday and all it entails is confused when Tobias disappears after telling him that he hates Christmas. Why does Tobias hate Christmas so much? Kyle has no idea since his mate disappears a few days before Christmas Eve and refuses to answer him on their mate bond. When Kyles gets a hold of Tobias, let's just say the clothes come off as Kyle tries to get Tobias to make new memories with him. I love author Karenna Colcroft's wonderful series, Real Werewolves Don't Eat Meat. The characters alone are very vivid and literally feel like they can step off the pages, into your living room. Though this is a short novella, the author packs quite a bit in the pages. The sexual tension between these two gets so hot I was afraid my e-reader would explode from all those sparks.

The best part for me in Tofurkey & Yams is how the reader gets to know more of Tobias's back-story and the author does a wonderful job in creating some believable moments between him and Kyle. Tofurkey & Yams is about two people trying to figure out how to heal painful memories and maybe make some new ones in the process. It was about Kyle trying to show Tobias that he is fully committed to his mate, Tobias and that Tobias can and should put away the darkness that has plagued him for years to let him find happiness and joy in the holidays again. I look forward to seeing what this author will do next for these wonderful well written characters and I highly recommend the series to anyone looking for humor, sizzling passion and loads of action/adventure in their books.

My Personal Review for Salad on the Side by Karenna Colcroft

When I first read the blurb I was like "A vegan Werewolf??" This I had to read and once I opened it, I was sucked into the story. I loved the angle of a vegan werewolf and the relationship Tobias has with Kyle.

My Rating for Salad on the Side: 3.5 Stars

Kyle Slidell has a good job, a new apartment and lusts after his next door neighbor, Tobias. He has only met a few of his neighbors so when Tobias invites him to a ‘Welcome to the neighborhood’ BBQ, Kyle decides to enjoy himself. Until a few nights later he is attacked in the garden and finds out that Tobias and his neighbors are also werewolves. Now Kyle is one too. Can a vegan werewolf find a way to survive in a world where blood, alpha males and more are the norm?

Karenna Colcroft takes the paranormal werewolf myth and turns it on its ear with a vegan man turned werewolf who has to figure out how to stay true to himself even as Kyle tries to adjust to being a werewolf-a vegan one at that. The writing is tight, the story flows smoothly and the author does a great job in letting the reader see how the packs live & work. At times, though, it got to be a little repetitive to read everything on what Kyle was experiencing over and over.  But after awhile it smoothed out and it got really interesting as Kyle found his feet, so to speak, in Tobias’s pack and as he fell in love with him. This was one of the first books I have read by this author and by far not going to be the last. With humor, romance, simmering sexual tension and action-in and out of the bedroom- this first book in Karenna's Real Werewolves Don't Eat Meat Series delivers a fun, sexy tale of two people finding they are perfect for one another.

Kyle and Tobias were perfect for one another though in the beginning I was eager to thump Tobias on the head for being so mysterious around Kyle and he only admitted the truth when Kyle became a werewolf. Tobias was a people pleaser and though I enjoyed his ‘no violence’ way of running his pack, it did get a little annoying in the story to see his indecision at times in key plot points. I actually wanted to shake Tobias and yell ‘get on with it, man and stop talking.’ But thankfully, the author does a good job in the end to get Tobias into the action of the storyline. The secondary characters were enjoyable and moved the story along nicely.

If you enjoy a story with a hero with hang ups, a strong alpha werewolf who melts at the sight of his mate and simmering sexual tension, then I highly recommend Salad on the Side by Karenna Colcroft. I can't wait to see the further adventures of Kyle's introduction into the werewolf world and all that it entails.
