Impatiently, Val flipped his powder-blue locks over his shoulder, tapping the little whisk broom against the counter where his supplies were arranged neatly. "Derek, you left me standing around at Paul's for an hour, a place I totally hate by the way, without even a phone call to say you weren't coming, and then I walk past you playing ball in the park with your friends on the way back here. I'm not overreacting!"

He ran a swift eye over his supplies. Scissors, combs, spray bottle with water, gel, mousse. Everything in order. While he prepared his workstation, he listened with half an ear to the deep voice on the other end of the phone, trying to explain or rationalize or whatever, but he wasn't into hearing what Derek had to say. The guy was an immature jerk who put his own wants ahead of everything, even if it meant leaving Val standing in a group of young college kids he barely knew, in a bar he usually avoided like the plague. He'd gone to the party in the first place for Derek. Being stood up while doing something so selfless pissed him off. Just once in a relationship, Val wanted to find a guy who put him first, who loved him more than sports, friends, and all the other temptations the wicked world offered. "Just forget it, Derek. You don't get it. It's not just last night; it's the whole last few months."

More rumbling and babbling in his ear. He ran a dust cloth over the client's chair and then adjusted its height. Prepping his station at the salon was second nature and required little of his attention. Kind of like listening to Derek. Why the fuck do I listen to this shit? Derek had all the emotional understanding of a two-ton truck. Cute as hell, but clueless about what would melt Val's heart. In fact, Derek might accurately be called dense altogether. A little consideration, a romantic gesture or two, would go a long way. Hell, an apology instead of an excuse would probably have gotten him a second chance even this morning. Eh. Who are you kidding? Derek is a symptom, not the illness itself. "Fuck off, Derek. It's over. Do me a favor and lose my number, okay?"

Flipping the phone shut, he shoved it into the pocket of his smock and busied himself cleaning up his workspace. A quick spray of glass cleaner to the mirror, a swipe or two with a rag, and he was done. Done with Derek, done with men, done with romance and love and sex, and fuck it all. He could be celibate. Masturbation didn't count as sex, did it? He'd need something if he wasn't getting any.

Somewhere in a small town in up-state New York are a librarian and a second grade teacher to whom I owe my life. That might be a touch dramatic, but it's nevertheless one hundred percent true.

Because they taught me the joy of reading, of escaping into worlds crafted of words.

Have you ever been nine years old and sure of nothing so much as that you don't belong? Looked at the world from behind glasses, and wondered why you don't fit?

Someone hands you a book, and then you turn the page and see… There you are, running from Injun Joe in a dark graveyard; there you are fencing with Athos; there you are…beneath the deep blue sea- marveling at exotic creatures with Captain Nemo.

I found myself between the pages of books, and that is why I write now. It's why I taught English and literature for so many years, and it's why my house contains more pounds of books than furniture.

If I'd had my way, I'd have been a fencer…or a starship captain, or a lawyer, or a detective solving crimes. But instead, I am a writer, and I've come to realize that's the best thing in the world to be, because as a writer, I can be all those things and more.

 If I hadn't learned to value the stories between the pages, who knows what would have happened? Certainly not college…teaching…or writing.

My Personal Review for Lee Brazil's Donovan's Deal

When I saw that Mr. Brazil delivers his readers a continuation for Mischa Blake's story from Keeping House, I was eager to see what was going on with these two wonderful characters. What we get is a story that twists and turns...get ready for Donovan's Deal.

My Rating for Donovan's Deal: 3.5 Stars

Welcome back to the Blake Siblings poker game. Mischa Blake is tired, stressed out and running on fumes. Between taking care of a special needs child with his partner, he is trying to finish college so he can start a new job in the New Year as well as make sure his new foundation is off the ground. It doesn’t leave time for well, romance, sleep or anything else he used to have time for. Donovan is determined to make Mischa figure out where his priorities lie as he tries to shield their son from the hurt of Mischa’s absences.

What I love about Mischa and Donovan is that they truly love one another but both need to figure out what works for them as a couple and as a person. With a special needs child, a man who is determined to be the bread winner regardless of his partners desire to help out money wise, can cause significant issues in a relationship. Mr. Brazil delivers those hurdles in a way that has the readers rooting for these two to overcome them in order to be together forever. A realistic portrayal of a couple overwhelmed by life that sometimes you need to stop and smell the roses, reassess those dreams and maybe see that sometimes your dreams may be the issue. The characters are well written-flaws and all, realistic and definitely some I would enjoy meeting in real life.

The Truth or Dare series is one series you know you are going to get quality reading entertainment, with characters that are very realistic, intriguing and that you need more of in the future. With the first book, Keeping House, Lee Brazil treated his readers to the Blake Brothers, Hollywood royalty and though very close, they do get on each other's nerves just like all siblings do. Donovan's Deal is full of twists and turns that leave me itching for the next book by this wonderful author. The Truth or Dare series is one series I NEED to buy on release day. The characters are well written, with flaws and all & the stories are emotional yet also realistic as well.

With the right amount of tension, plot twists and more, Mr. Brazil delivers a story you can't help but fall in love with. I know i am not the only one eager to see what else this author has in store for all the characters in the Truth or Dare series. If you are looking for a holiday story with heart, then try Donovan's Deal. I do recommend reading Keeping House firsdt so you know the background of Mischa and Donovan's story.

My Personal Review for It's Simple, Simon by Lee Brazil

When I saw the new line at Breathless Press filled with nursery rhymes that are told...well...a bit naughtily  I was thrilled.  *grins* Then I spied It's Simple, Simon by Lee Brazil and got hooked. Get ready for a twist on your childhood fairytales...

My Rating for It's Simple, Simon: 3.5 Stars

Simon Carter was determined to show his ex-lover/friend, Chase Garvin, that he did make a success of himself regardless of Chase’s lack of faith in him and the dreams he had. But when Simon comes home for a visit and a plan to rub Chase’s nose in it, he finds the man he once loved is a success of his own and still sexy to boot. Simon and Chase get reacquainted but Simon’s plan of revenge weighs on him and it takes one night for it all to come out. But Chase and Simon have issues to lay bare and to work out if they want to be together again. Can these two find a way to let the past go, heal the hurts it caused and let themselves believe in the love that is between them still?

What I loved about It's Simple  Simon was how we got the underlying events that caused Chase and Simon to go become what they were meant to be. It gave the story depth even as this author delivered some wildly sexy scenes that had me reaching to open the window just to cool down. The characters are intriguing and I loved how Simon started out wanting revenge against his ex, Chase but finds himself rethinking that after seeing him again. The complex relationship these two have and unfinished business that causes to rear it's head once they reconnect has the reader on the edge of their seat, wondering if Simon and Chase will finally make a go of it or go their separate ways forever.

It's SImple, Simon is more about two people falling for one another, breaking up badly and letting themselves fall in love again. it's about letting past hurts go so you can have an open heart to falling in love once again. To letting yourself trust in the person before you, not the one who hurt you years ago and to trust in yourself that this time, just maybe, you both can finally find that happily ever after you have longed for deep in your heart. It's about forgiveness, laughter and love. Humor, sexy scenes that made me fan my face and a story line that pulls at your heartstrings. Lee Brazil delivers a top notch retelling of a not so great nursery rhyme and gives it the heart it needs, in my opinion. I cannot wait to see if Lee Brazil does another twist on a nursery rhyme in the future.

Book Review~Telling The Truth by Lee Brazil

When I first met the Blake Brothers in Keeping House I fell in love with them. All were different and intriguing and now Terry Blake is next t find his own brand of personal happiness with two people who stir him like no other. 


My Rating for Telling The Truth: 4 Stars

Terry Blake has done what his older brother wanted. Went to school, got his MBA and work in the family business, Blake Productions but nothing, lately, has interested him…well until he spied his younger brother’s friends, Trick and Dex in the corner of Mischa’s yard making out. Now hot and bothered, Terry has a choice to make when he is dared to divulge his darkest fantasies, Terry finds the strength to give voice to what he needs and desire. Now the question is can Terry find the strength to go after what he wants-namely a relationship with Trick and Dex?

Author Lee Brazil tackles a taboo subject in the second installment of his Truth & Dare series with Terry's lovers being twin brothers and lovers. If you fell for the first book, Keeping House, I urge you to give Telling The Truth a chance for this author does a great job in creating these two characters perfectly and you find out about  their back-story as well. The writing is as wonderful as ever and the sexual tension between Terry, Trick and Dex is flaming hot. I swore the e-reader was going to combust a few times while reading this one. I was particularly thrilled to see Mischa and Donovan again as well as the rest of the Blake brothers though there are one or two that need a good slap upside the head at times.The story flowed nicely and the ending had me smiling at the end. Lee Brazil is a talented author who knows how to create a story and let the characters voices shine through. This is the true talent of an author in my humble opinion when the author can show the reader those hidden depths of their characters and let the reader fall in love with them.

Telling The Truth is more than a story of one man coming to grip with his sexuality but also of taking the chance of being with the people he knows complete him-heart, body and soul. Lee Brazil’s Truth or Dare series is a hit with this reader for he gives the brothers different personas that seem to mesh really well within the series. If you enjoy a heart felt story with some seriously smoking hot scenes then you will enjoy Telling The Truth. I can’t wait to see what Blake brother is next and what this author has in store for them.

My Personal Review for Loving Jacob by Lee Brazil

Loving Jacob is a story that will hit every note within you. Get ready for another hit from Lee Brazil.


My Rating for Loving Jacob: 4 Stars and Recommended Read


Meet Malcolm Jenner. He did the correct thing and married Penny, had a son and has a career in law even though he knows he is gay. He has an arrangement with Penny-he can have his flings but be discreet. It works for Malcolm until he spies Jacob at the office finds himself falling into lust with the younger man. Jacob is a young man who knows what he wants. He wants that fairy tale relationship-Prince Charming, white picket fence and a loving relationship. He wanted Malcolm. Both wanted to change the other’s mind on what their relationship should be but sometimes love and life don’t always work the way you want it. 


When I first picked this up, I was eager to see if Lee Brazil worked his magic again and I was pleased to say Yes he did. He created a story that leaves you gasping in shock, sighing over the romance and cheering in the end. Loving Jacob is more than man meets man, falling love and live happily ever after. It's about love & lust, finding one's self when you hit rock bottom and learning that love is more than Disney fairy tales. There is a poignant scene with Malcolm's son that had me sobbing as I prayed Malcolm would find a way to be with Jacob. Lee Brazil delivers a stellar story that touches all your emotions in every possible way. 


 Lee Brazil is a talented storyteller. One that has his readers going “OH MY GOD!” with each story he pens. LOVING JACOB is more than a man meets man, falls in love, sort of story. It’s one where two people have to find their way in a relationship that started out as lust and passion and turns to love even as their relationship becomes more complicated than both anticipate. Lee Brazil does a wonderful job creating flawed, enjoyable characters that the reader falls in love with. Both Malcolm and Jacob have issues that eventually come out to the reader that makes them relateable to me. The story is fast paced and the writing is tight. This is Lee Brazil in his storytelling glory.


I can't wait to see what else this author can conjure up for his readers to enjoy. If you love emotional stories, flawed but enjoyable characters and a fast paced story line, then grab Loving Jacob and settle in for an afternoon reading pleasure.

December is Read a New Book Month

Hi, thanks for having me back here, Dawn! For those of you I don't know, I'm Lee Brazil, m/m romance author for Breathless Press and member of the Story Orgy Writing group. This is my fellow Orgiast, and Muse, Havan Fellows.

Hey, Dawn, are you enjoying the snow? I love the snow when it's out there and I'm inside with a warm drink and a good book. Speaking of, December is Read a New Book Month. Did you know this? I myself had no clue. Someone told me that the other day. I figure any month is a good month for reading, but December is especially cozy. Y'all look at a calendar these days and it seems like they've gone out of their way to make up some special significance for every single day. Some things, I really do think need to be emphasized, for one reason or another. December 1st was World AIDS Awareness Day. I can support that day whole heartedly. *add more sugar to coffee* But, yah know, I've seen Cheesecake Day, and Eat a Red Apple Day, even Bathtub Party Day. 

*opens mouth to talk*

*glances at Havan*

Maybe we could—

No, doll, we are not celebrating that one. Here, have another cookie. *pushes plate over and stretches out legs*

*stretches out my legs over Lee's and puts plate on lap…munches on cookie…sips Lee's coffee…rests head on his shoulder and giggles* I'm just saying—if you are going to have a party a bathtub is the perfect place for one…clean-up would be a breeze and there would be no worry about spillage *winks at Dawn and pulls her down next to us* 

I see that some things need more than a day, though, and I guess reading a book is one of them. So I thought, since it is Read New Book Month and all, I'd tell you what I'm reading this month. *taps kindle* 

*whispers to Dawn* he never goes anywhere without that bad boy hehe

I went on over to the e-book seller this last week and picked up a few things. *ducks head* I should warn you I’m a voracious reader, and fairly eclectic in my tastes. So I have a little bit of everything on here. Let's see, I got Lost Light by Michael Connelly, Bad Boyfriend by KA Mitchell, Josh Lanyon's Snowball in Hell, and Top Chef the Cookbook by Tom Colicchio. *Sips coffee* What are you reading this month, Havan?

Well I'm kinda playing catch-up…I have Allison Cassatta's Immortal #1, Ilona Andrews Magic Bleeds and Magic Slays (part 4 & 5 of her Kate Daniels series) and the one my nephew is forcing me to read…because it is evidently a crime to be an author and not have read it…The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. *hangs head in shame for my admission*

*jaw drops* That's one of my "life altering" books, Havan! How have you not read the Guide? *chuckles* Always carry a towel. So, Dawn, what’s in your TBR this month?

*looks at Lee and Havan and wonders if I should mention the the three subject notebooks full of wish list books*

Oh goddess, you really want to know huh? *grins and drags out the notebooks* You asked for it....of course, Word Play is on there but so are Andrew Grey's Love Mean's...Family; Leon by SJD Peterson and many more. :-) Hey you asked so stop looking at me like i am from another planet.

Y'all know, Story Orgy has anthologies releasing this month, too. Word Play from Breathless Press is an eclectic collection of m/m romance. Maybe some of y'all would like to check it out while you're looking for your new book to read in December?
