Dixon Carter’s heart shattered into a million pieces, his whole world imploded as he watched his husband make the moves on another guy. They weren’t just holding hands; they were kissing out in the open, not even trying to hide their love affair. Of course Dixon shouldn’t be here as far as Bryan was concerned. He’d flown home on leave, hoping to surprise Bryan, but he was the one who’d gotten the surprise of his life. This was supposed to be a big weekend for them. He’d made it, been accepted into training that led up to him eventually going into the Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL training in Coronado, California. Bryan had said he’d wanted to move with him, but after seeing his husband shove his tongue down another guy’s throat, he wondered if anything the asshole had said had been true.

Dixon drew in a breath, thinking that nothing would ever be the same again. He shook his head, trying like hell to comprehend what was happening. Had he really seen Bryan and that stranger kiss? Why the hell would his husband do this to him? He watched, wondering if he were mistaken, but Bryan pulled the other man close again, kissing him like he meant it.  Dixon closed his eyes and tried not to fall apart. How the fuck was he supposed to recover from this? He and Bryan had been together for eight years, since their sophomore year in high school when Bryan had moved to town. Bryan had stood by him through basic training, but he guessed Bryan had a different view of what commitment meant.

Dixon’s heart twisted as he grabbed his pack and lifted his hand to catch a cab, but he lowered his arm, shaking his head. He wasn’t going to run from this. He sure as hell wouldn’t leave his stuff with Bryan. No chance in hell would he allow the fucker to continue using his truck, or taking drives in the restored Mustang Dixon had worked on since high school.

He trailed Bryan and the new guy to their apartment, watching as the pair kissed and hugged before going through the front door. He waited on the street a few minutes before following them upstairs to the third floor of the walkup he and Bryan had picked out when he’d been on leave a year ago. God, just the thought of Bryan in their place, kissing that guy, made him want to hit something.

He slid the key in the door, hoping to catch them, and praying he didn’t. When the door swung wide he didn’t hear any sound for the first few seconds. Relief flowed through him, and then he heard someone grunting, the sound twisting through his gut, making him sick. Dixon knew he and Bryan were over for good.

Pain lanced his heart and he tried to breathe, but the air was too thick and his chest ached. He drew in a second breath, this one almost taking him to his knees as Bryan cried out like he was really enjoying himself.

How long? How many others?

The questions played through his mind as he moved to the bookshelf that held the signed baseball his grandfather had given him before he passed away. His bills were in a neat stack beside the ball and he grabbed those too. The TV and stereo weren’t important to him. Besides, he’d be living in the barracks once he moved to Coronado so things like TV’s didn’t really matter much.

While he was alone in the den, listening to his husband and some stranger get it on, he looked around the place, noticing the sweatshirt he’d given Bryan for his birthday tossed to the floor and the Navy mug he’d shipped for Christmas chipped and holding pens instead of being used as a vessel to drink from. The end of this relationship hurt like crazy. He couldn’t believe how painful anything associated with Bryan could be. The man had promised him love, companionship, and forever. Bryan was here taking care of things at home, but he’d really just been playing house with whomever decided to fill his bed.

Book Review~ Sending Jack Off to Jesus by Sara York

The next installment in author Sara York's A Southern Thing Trilogy and it has some really intense and abusive scenes that left me closing my eyes in horror. Get ready for an intense second installment in the acclaimed A Southern Thing Trilogy.

Jack Miller and Andrew Collins thought they had a future together until life through them such a curveball that neither can see beyond their own pain.

Jack is determined to finish high school, get hat football scholarship and get the heck out of town with Andrew by his side. But when his father decides that praying the gay away won’t work and instead decides to send him to a Gay conversion camp, well things just go from bad to worse. Can Jack find a way to get back to Andrew and heal his shattered spirit?

Andrew finds that life back home with his abusive parents is just as hard as ever. When he is left for dead after a vicious beating by his parents, can Andrew find a way to survive in order to be with Jack again?

Two souls longing for one another, two lives torn asunder. Can Jack and Andrew survive what they are dealt with in order to be together once and for all?




My Personal Review:


When I finished Pray the Gay Away, I was in awe at the author's way of showing the reader just what it is like in some places down south if you are gay/GBLT. Talk about eye opening for this reader. I live up north and for me, Pray the Gay Away was strong, emotional and quite a journey. Now in book two, Sending Jack Off to Jesus, it gets more intense and in this portion there are scenes of parental abuse and other abuse that just made my heart bleed for these two characters. This is a powerful and emotional continuation of Jack and Andrew's story that left me reeling all the way to the end.

With book one, Pray the Gay Away, you get introduced to Jack, Andrew and the residents of the tiny town of Sweet, Georgia. From the very first page, I was enamored with Jack and Andrew’s stories, rooting for them to overcome the prejudices of that tiny town and their families to get their own happily ever after. Except for these two to get there they need to cross some very dangerous things. From gay conversion camp that borders on torture to parental abuse so awful it made my heart clench in fear for the characters while I longed to smack some sense into them in the process. I have to caution you that this is a heart wrenching story and the trilogy should be read in order as the second and third books continue where the last one left off. 



When Jack and Andrew met it was like lightning hit, friendship bloomed into love and for these two people, and life is changing even as they sleep. Jack has tried to be the perfect son, the best big brother and make his family proud. What he can’t do is deny who he is anymore and that is a gay man. Meeting Andrew leaves him breathless and when he falls in love with him, well let’s just say their sparks fly fast and furious. Andrew is an out gay man but living in this small town has left him reeling. Abused by their parents, both men have to stay strong when events conspire to destroy them completely. I have to admit, these two characters just tug on my heart. Both are wounded by the people who should be supporting them the most- emotionally, mentally and even physically. All through this second book I was torn into pieces as both Andrew and Jack find themselves in situations that a lesser man would die from. Their inner strength comes through the flames and I was rooting all through this story for them to get back to one another. The secondary characters have left me wanting to either hug them in gratitude for their kindness to these two young men to out right murder. 

Ms. York doesn’t pull any punches in her second installment in the Southern Thing Trilogy and if you are expecting a happy ever after are doomed to disappointment. This is a brutal no holds barred story that showcases the extent that some may go to make sure their children are not gay. There are no hand holdings with those scenes. They are brutally honest and I, for one, am appalled to find that some places like these conversion camps are still in business. I cried and had my heart torn out a lot while reading this book and I, for one, am in awe of this author’s research into gay conversion camps, starvation and more. 

This is an emotional heart wrenching story and the ending will leave you with tears in your eyes. If you are looking for a strong, powerful story that continues to stay in your head and heart long after the book is done then you need to read A Southern Thing Trilogy. I caution you to make sure to have tissues on hand because you will cry, you will rail against the bigots and you will feel like your heart is breaking for these two wonderful characters. This alone is the testament of this author’s storytelling and in that I salute Sara York for a phenomenal story that needed to be told and I look forward to reading the final installment of this amazing series soon.

About the Author

Writing is Sara’s life. The stories fight to get out, often leaving her working on four or five books at once. She can’t help but write. Along with her writing addiction she has a coffee addiction. Some nights, the only reason she stops writing and goes to sleep is for the fresh brewed coffee in the morning.

 

Sara enjoys writing twisted tales of passion, anger, and love with a good healthy dose of lust thrown in for fun. Almost a quarter of a century ago Sara met her lover, falling for him after knowing him for ten minutes. Q: So tell us about yourself. What got you in the crosshairs for your author? I'm a queen, a drag queen that is. I like to dress up a bit. Okay, maybe more than a bit. I really love to put on evening gowns and sing. And I'm good, real good.

Q: What was it that drew you to your mate? God, he's so sexy. I absolutely love him. The thing that drew me to him was his commanding presence.

Q: A little naughty fun, where was the wildest place you seduced your partner(s)? When I was in my dress. I love it when a man is dressed in a suit, and me in my high heels and dress. Just so sexy when the guys plays the big macho dude with me.

Q: Boxers, briefs or Commando on a man? Commando, always commando unless I'm playing a part.

Q: If your partner wants to seduce you, what's one sure fire trick he can play? When Travis tells me to put on my sweats and warm socks and he makes hot coco, that does me in. I'm his for the rest of the night.

Q: What is the one place on your partner's body that you know will drive them wild-in and out of bed? When I suck on Travis' neck. That's one place that's sure to drive him wild.

Q: What was one of the most embarrassing thing your author did to you in Changing Currency? Having us sleep together in the bed at the hotel. I was about to die when the front desk worker at the hotel said Travis and I would have to share a room and not just any room, but a room with a king bed.

Impeccable black wingtips came into her field of vision. They looked to be Brooks Brothers, similar to the ones she owned for the daytime job. Maxine allowed her gaze to travel up the sharply pressed grey suit pants. The fine herringbone pattern spoke of wealth. Maxine gaze came to the top of the V of the man’s legs. The package was plentiful, causing her to sweat and the tape holding her dick felt strained.

She sat up quickly, intending to fix the man with her most threatening stare, only to have all of the air whoosh from her lungs and her head to spin. Standing only six inches from her was Travis—super hot Travis—Her boss, Travis. Well, Max’s boss.

“You are very beautiful and rather accomplished.” Travis smiled, leaving her even more breathless.

Brett spun around and lifted his hand to push Travis back but Maxine stopped him.

Travis held up two fingers, getting the bartenders attention. “Would you like something?” he asked, one hand coming to rest on her thigh.

Heat shot to her groin, making her wish she’d applied more tape to hold things in place and keep the illusion secure. “I’m fine.”

“Draft beer, please.” Travis leaned in close though the music wasn’t loud in this part of the bar and it was unnecessary. “I really like your voice. If I asked you out on a date, would you sing to me?”

“Depends.”
