Contract Signed (Triggerman, Inc. Book 1) by Marie Harte

Date of Publication: January 17, 2017

Blurb

Three assassins and a… baby?
How many assassins does it take to change a diaper?
Three assassins have met their match…and it wears diapers.

Triggerman, Inc., Book 1

Noel "Ice" Cavanaugh's method is foolproof. Get in, do the job, get out, melt away without a trace. Chill out until his next mark is assigned. Neat. Tidy. No mistakes.

This time, though, something isn't right. Two somethings. First a random attack that feels not-so-random. Then he discovers someone's left a baby on his doorstep with a note claiming it's his. And the sexy neighbor who found the boy first has too many questions in her eyes to ignore.

When her handsome, mysterious neighbor suddenly asks her out on a date, Adeline Rose has suspicions he's fishing for "help" with his bundle of…joy? By date's end, she's convinced NOel's just as distant as he seems—until a scorching goodnight kiss ends with sex against the nearest wall, the heat between them burning away all thoughts of careful.

Now Noel has more than one problem on his hands. Splitting baby duty between three badass assassins, figuring out how to fit more time with Addy into his no-room-for-error schedule…and keeping both of them safe from the danger he's increasingly sure has followed him home.

Warning: Beware a killer with a heart of gold, a baby who needs constant changing, and unrequited love that's actually quite…requited.

Discover Marie Treanor's The Dead of Haggard Hall

The Dead of Haggard Hall (Darke of Night Book 1) by Marie Treanor

Date of Publication: July 26, 2016

Spirit possession is easy to remedy. Possession of the heart is another matter.
Darke of Night, Book 1

After vicar's widow and natural medium Barbara Darke loses her respectable teaching position, she reluctantly agrees to become companion to her former pupil Emily, now the bride of young Sir Arthur Haggard.

Once settled at Haggard Hall, Barbara finds her friend is beset by ghostly voices and unexplained deaths. In a maelstrom of dark spirits and wicked emotions, Barbara battles to lay Emily's ghosts to rest-both hampered and helped by Arthur's skeptical cousin Patrick, who provokes and attracts her in equal measure.

It would be a mistake to trust a secretive, guilt-ridden man suspected of driving his wife to suicide, if not outright murdering her. And it could well be lethal to give in to her own desires, confused as they often are with the lusts of the dead.

But Arthur and Emily are in genuine physical danger, and suspicion is falling closer and closer to Patrick-the man who haunts Barbara's sensual dreams. The man who stands to inherit Haggard Hall.

Warning: Contains a medium whose body is open season for spirit possession, and a scandal-ridden journalist who only believes what he can see-and touch.

About Jenna Ryan

Jenna Ryan was born in Victoria, British Columbia. After long stints in different cities across Canada, she returned home to Vancouver Island where she has lived ever since. She has had thirty-one books published in the Harlequin Intrigue series. Her ideas come from real life, and she is helped in her writing by her sister Kathy.

She enjoys reading and is a big fan of women's fiction, psychological suspense and mystery novels. She also enjoys watching classic suspense movies. She loves strong heroines, heroes with character, romance stories and a good whodunit by the fire on a rainy night.
Her heritage is a blend of English and Irish — which is probably where the gift of blarney comes from. She is unmarried, but involved with a wonderful man. She also has a little white cat named Sheena.

Whenever she is not writing, she travels as much as time and finances will allow. After North America, Europe is her favorite continent to explore, because it was in those countries that many of the myths and legends she drew upon in her early years of writing were born.

Growing up, she considered various careers and dabbled in several of them, including, after university, the travel industry, tourism, sales and modeling. Work in the fashion industry in Toronto and Montreal gave her an interesting peek into various aspects of that world. She learned that where money, power and people come together, there will always be unpredictability — an element she feels is essential to a strong mystery. Add a healthy measure of personal conflict, an intriguing setting and a spicy romance into the mix, and you have the ingredients for what she believes to be the best of all possible stories — a great romantic suspense.

The path to temptation is paved with a hellish amount of paperwork.

Soul acquisition is a drag, but if Abaddon doesn't catch up on his quota, he could be demoted to scooping poop for the Hounds of Hell. With a deadline hanging over him, he heads for the Bible Belt, looking for the perfect combination of sweetness and challenge.

Seth is a blind musician, part of a traveling tent revival. He's cute, mystically talented, and quotes the Bible at every turn. His soul is pure enough to fill Abaddon's quota for months to come, and Abaddon is determined to claim it.

The problem? There's the revival foreman who watches Abaddon's every move. Then there's the mystery of Seth's many unusual talents. Lastly, there's Abaddon himself. He's beginning to like Seth a bit too much. Maybe Seth deserves something better than damnation.

But Hell's agenda isn't negotiable, and time is running out. If Abaddon doesn't play his cards right, he could condemn both of them to the worst fate of all—an eternity apart.

Warning: Contains a Bible-quoting twink and an irreverent devil who'll do anything to avoid going "back to the office". Also, snakes. Lots and lots of snakes.

Excerpt:
Jon studied him, his gaze taking in…something. “May I ask you something?”
“Of course.” His chest flushed with anticipation.
“How do you feel when you’re with me?”
Isaac tried to push aside the anxiety still attempting to blur his thoughts, an old friend that wanted to be part of the conversation. Only anxiety wasn’t allowed in, not this time. He shuffled through different words, emotions and adjectives, searching for the one that best described how he felt about Jon. How Jon made him feel, despite being a near-stranger, bigger, stronger and far more experienced in pretty much everything. Jon still made him feel… “Safe,” Isaac said.
Jon’s eyebrows crept up. The corners of his mouth quirked into something not quite a smile. “Really?”
“Yes. The first time I saw you on my security feed, I noticed how beautiful you were.” His cheeks warmed.
Jon flat out grinned. “Yeah?”
“You’re kind and patient, and I feel safe because you don’t try to fix me, and you don’t act like I’m broken. My family thinks I’m broken, and I don’t want them to fix me. I just…” Something in Isaac shifted, accepting this new truth. “I need to feel safe, Jon. That’s why I hide. But you make me not want to hide.”
Jon’s eyes glittered. His expression melted into something so warm, so sweet, that it burned in Isaac’s blood in a way he didn’t understand at all. The strange sensation urged him to reach out, to initiate contact of some kind. Deep-rooted fear kept Isaac still, unable to make that first move. Unable to do anything except soak in the wonderment on Jon’s face.
“I think that’s the greatest compliment I’ve ever gotten,” Jon said. His voice was hoarse, strange. Almost difficult to hear, so Isaac paid more attention to his lips. “Is it cheesy to say your strength makes me want to be better too?”
Isaac shook his head. “I’m not strong.”
“You’re stronger than you think. You proved that by letting me and Henry in two weeks ago. You proved it again by going out to rescue a kitten. Twice, by the way. You told me you want to get better, get into the world, and that takes a fuck-ton of courage when you’ve lost as much as you have. I know it won’t be easy, but I still want to help you do that.”
“I know you do. I want that too.”

Book Spotlight~ NJ Walters' Wolf on a Mission

Wolf on a Mission
Samhain Publishing
Paranormal Romance

When love runs wild, there are no limits.
Salvation Pack, Book 6

Full-blooded werewolf Elias Gallagher, sole guardian of his half-breed teenage nephews, is all too aware that the world is not a safe place for a werewolf on his own. Doubly so for half-breeds.

He brings his nephews to North Carolina to check out the Salvation Pack’s openness to half-breeds. He never expected to find a mate—the fully human mother of a young boy—while there.

After enduring one tragedy after another over the past two years, Sue Walsh is focused solely on earning a living and raising her five-year-old son. With her ex suddenly demanding custody, the last complication she wants or needs is an attraction to a ruggedly handsome stranger.

But the sexual pull between them is too strong to be denied. And when there’s trouble with the local hunters, Elias will do whatever it takes to protect the people he loves. Even if it means revealing his biggest secret.

EXCERPT:

Sue put away the last of the dishes. The barbecue had been a huge success. Billy had eaten his burger and several marshmallows, and even laughed at the antics of a squirrel that had chattered endlessly from his perch in a nearby tree.

He’d stayed outside on the back porch to play while she’d cleared away and washed up. Even though it was still light out, Billy should have already had his bath. “Relax. It’s summer,” she reminded herself. He’d have to be on a stricter schedule once school started. They both would. Better to let them both enjoy these last days of summer.

She glanced out the window at the back porch. Her heart skipped a beat and she tossed aside the dishtowel. Billy had been there only a minute ago. She hurried to the backdoor and pulled it open. “Billy?” His toy trucks and cars had been abandoned and he was nowhere in sight.

“Don’t panic. Don’t panic.” He had to be here somewhere. “Billy, where are you? Billy?” She turned in a circle, taking in the entire yard. There was no sign of her son.

“The creek.” He liked to play by the water. She ran toward the path, her heart pounding and chest aching. “Billy!” He knew he wasn’t supposed to go off on his own. This was the first time he’d ever done such a thing. “Billy!”

A vision from the past slammed into her. She could still remember coming out to visit Anny that fateful Saturday morning and finding her friend’s bloody body. The paramedics had saved Anny’s life, but nothing had ever been the same again.

Sue kept her gaze on the path ahead of her and picked up her pace. “Billy!” she yelled. “Answer me.” Her phone was in the charger on the kitchen counter. She should have grabbed it in case she needed to call the sheriff’s office.

No, she wouldn’t think like that. She’d find Billy looking for frogs by the edge of the stream. Thankfully the water level was low at the end of the hot summer and her son could swim, or at least dog paddle.
She hurried around the final bend and her feet skidded to a halt. For one brief second, she was paralyzed, her limbs refusing to work. Then she broke free and started to move toward her son at a slow and steady pace.

Billy must have heard her coming, because he turned to her and smiled. “Doggy.” His joy was evident, but she couldn’t share it. His doggy was huge and was no dog at all. It was a wolf.

A wolf had attacked and almost killed Anny almost two years ago. Was this the same beast? Sue reached down and grabbed a decent-sized rock. She’d played baseball in high school and knew she had a decent aim. At this distance, she couldn’t miss. “Get away from him, Billy. You know better than to touch a strange animal.”

Her son frowned at her. “He likes me.”

As if he understood her fears, the animal whined and licked Billy’s cheek.

Obviously, wherever this animal had come from, he wasn’t vicious. She was lowering her hand when she realized the dog or wolf or whatever it was, wasn’t alone. A man stepped out from behind a tree. No, not a man, a teenage boy. He was tall for his age, at least six feet, maybe more.

He held his hands out in front of him. “We didn’t mean any harm. Reece and I were just out exploring.”

“Reece?” Her fingers tightened around the rock.

He grinned and pointed at the creature sitting next to her son.

“Billy, come here.” She used her mom voice. The one Billy knew meant business. He sighed and reluctantly left the animal and came to stand beside her, dragging his feet all the way.

“Where did you come from?” she asked the teen. He might seem harmless, but she didn’t know him at all, and she knew everyone who lived within a fifty-mile radius of town, because at one time or another, everyone came through the diner where she worked.

He pointed off in the distance. “We’re camping and just decided to go exploring. We didn’t mean any harm.”

Now she was starting to feel a little ridiculous. She lowered the rock but didn’t drop it. “You shouldn’t be out here by yourself.”

The teen grinned. “You sound like our uncle.”

Sue took a good look at the teen. He was a handsome young man with his brown hair and blue eyes. There was something about him she liked, in spite of the fact he was a stranger. “You should listen to your uncle.”
The wolf growled and Sue took a step back.

“Knock it off, Reece,” he told the animal. “I’m Sage Gallagher.”

She wasn’t quite ready to introduce herself. “Is that a wolf?”

Sage nodded. “Yeah, it is, but he won’t hurt you. Honest.”

The hair on the back of her neck rose and a shiver of fear raced down her spine as a man stepped out of the woods. He was big. At least six-two with short brown hair and dark eyes. He also wasn’t wearing a shirt. It was impossible not to notice his broad shoulders, the dusting of dark hair on his chest and the bands of muscles that rippled on his abdomen.

It was also impossible not to notice the scowl on his face.

He pinned her with a ferocious glare. “What the hell is going on?”

Character Spotlight with August Kert and their hero, Anson

Please give a warm welcome to Anson from Bring Me To Life by August Kert today as we sit down and see what makes him/her tick.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not saving (the world, clients, your mate)?

I don’t save…the world. My kind, the zombies, have…destroyed it. We live in death or…the promise of death. My escape is through…books. I can’t read, but…I do look at…pictures and wonder…who and what…the people are.

What is it about your love interest Lyric that makes you crazy in a good way?

Lyric is a fighter but…not just physically. Every word that…comes out of…her mouth is a challenge. That’s what first…drew me to her. She’s fascinating even when…she’s killing zombies. But more than her…strength, she makes…me feel emotions I…didn’t know I…could, and she feels them…with me.

Do you sometimes want to strangle your writer? Thrash her/him to within an inch of their life? Make them do the stupid crap they makes you do?

No, because she created…my world, and while being…a zombie isn’t a choice…I would have…made, it brought Lyric and I…together. I’m thankful for…that. Although August could…have taken away…some of the awkwardness, given me some…idea for slang…and not given me a…stutter.

Favorite food?

Human. I prefer clean. Sweat…makes the skin taste…bitter.

Tell me a little bit about your world. What are your greatest challenges in that world?

Since turning into…a zombie, I don’t…know much about…the outside world. I live in an…old school. Dust is everywhere, desks are…broken and pushed…around. From what I can…see, the world…is dead. Humans are rare, so zombies…capture them and…keep them until…it’s time…to eat. We must do…whatever it takes…to survive. Our biggest…struggle is survival. If we go hungry, we…begin to rot. We’ll die. But there aren’t…enough humans to…stop it. Rot will get…all of us one day.

Describe yourself in four words.

Curious, hopeful, protective, determined

What do you do for a living?

In the school, I…help oversee…the humans while they…do chores.

What do you fear the most?

It’s always been rot…and my memories…never returning, but…now that I…have Lyric…I’m afraid of…her dying. I will…do whatever it…takes to keep her…alive.

Plan to survive: befriend a monster. Not in the plan: falling in love with him.

As one of the few humans left alive, Lyric knows a hundred different ways to survive—none of them pretty. Anything to stay out of the “farms” where the not-so-mindless zombies keep humans they eat to prevent themselves from rotting.

But humans have to eat too. While foraging for food, she’s captured and taken to a farm. Her fate seems sealed—until she notices one of the zombies watching her with a different kind of hunger in his eyes.

Anson clings to the hope that he can somehow overcome the disease that turned him into a cannibal. Lyric stirs needs and desires he’s forgotten he had, and her fighting spirit brings back the ragged edge of a past that long ago slipped from his memory.

When Anson offers moments of freedom in exchange for her help, Lyric grabs the chance to survive. She never thought her emotions would cast a very different light on the monster…or that desire would complicate her plan to escape.

Warning: Contains a hopeless romantic zombie trying to find his humanity, and a plucky heroine desperate for a way out—even if it’s down a zombie’s pants. Not for the faint of heart…or the squeamish. Let’s just say kissing is off the menu.

Excerpt (paranormal erotic romance)
After I finished with all of the fish, I scraped the guts to the edge of the table. “Anson, here they are.” I twirled a finger through my hair before yanking it back. A bloody, fish-smelling finger in my hair. What an ass.
He took the guts and threw them over the side of the roof. He returned, a confused expression on his face.
I smiled while shaking my hips. “Thank you.”
His brows furrowed. “What wrong?”
“What do you mean?”
“Act weird. You flirt?”
Shit. I could feel the blood drain from my face. I thought I was coming off smoothly. “No, I just wanted to show you how much your kindness means to me.”
“I not healthy…human and…I know bad flirt.”
There wasn’t a large enough hole for me to crawl into. Heat ignited in my cheeks. It wasn’t possible for him to know my plan. Definitely the wrong movies. I pinched the bridge of my nose. “Okay, spill. How did you know?”
“Max. Woman try with him.”
I stomped my foot. Someone had already attempted it, and she’d messed it up for me. But at least I wasn’t the only sick fuck to come up with that plan. “Okay, I’ll stop.” How much could I tell him? None. “Sorry, Anson, I thought men liked that.”
He reached up to touch me again, but stopped. “I like fight. Strong.”
I chuckled. “Glad you think so. But a girl in the pit with me said that fighting will get me noticed, and not in a good way. So, I have to play nice.”
He nodded. “I make pick other. You safe.”
“For now.” He might be willing to watch out for me today, but tomorrow was a different story. I meant nothing to him but a way to remember his past. And he meant nothing to me but a possible way out. The idea seemed more plausible the longer I spent with him. Anson had a weakness for me, for humans. Being flirty was a bad move, but I could act like a friend. Maybe if he thought I cared for him, he’d help me.
Flirting was terrible. Being natural and using my skills, in this case the strength he loved, would come much easier. A different kind of charm.
“For now,” Anson repeated. He waited as if he couldn’t decide something. Then he said, “I give you…present.”
I cocked a brow at him. “You’re giving me a present? I’m guessing it’s not a diamond ring.”
