Tour Stop and Giveaway: When I Look Into the Mirror by Tanith Davenport

Come check out this newest book from Tanith Davenport, When I look into the Mirror, today and make sure you enter the tour wide giveaway as you could win a $10 Amazon or BN GC from the author. The tour is sponsored by Goddess Fish Promotions and you can find all the tour stops HERE.

Talking with Tanith Davenport:

Tell us about your latest book, who is the main character(s) and what can we expect when we pick it up?

When hairstylist Tatum Fox attends a party at a friend’s house, her main interest is in the mysterious Zack – freshly out of a relationship, she’s looking for romance. However, when the party turns into a séance, Tatum finds herself targeted by a demon, and her connection to Zack becomes paramount in saving her – as Tatum has a supernatural power all of her own.

Give us an out of context quote from your book to warm our hearts:

She felt herself rising off the bed, floating upright, and then in front of her was Zack, his blue eyes glowing as they focused on hers.

Who are some authors that you look for inspiration?

Victoria Blisse, Lucy Felthouse and Jennifer Denys are authors I particularly find inspiring. They’re very talented writers and know how to create a character.

Fire down below! What’s the first object you save?

My cats – it would have to be both of them, because I can’t choose between them!

Advice for newly sparking writers in three sentences or less:

Finish the book and never let anyone put you down.

Which of your characters would you want to share a campfire with, and why?

Definitely my hero Zack. With his supernatural abilities, I’m sure he’d have some great campfire stories to tell.

Tell us about what you are reading at the moment or anticipate reading in the future? Any new books you are looking forward to?

I’m currently finishing off all of Agatha Christie’s novels and am also looking forward to the upcoming Richard Osman mystery. I was quite surprised at how much I enjoy his books.

Can you briefly describe your writing process for us?

I have a day job working from home, so I usually write in my lunch break. It’s all about fitting it into my day and getting into the right headspace. I do prep work in the evenings so I always know exactly what I’m going to write when I sit down.

What is next on your writerly horizon?

I’m working on a new book in the “Rock My World” series and the first book in a new series about heroines falling in love with actors. “Rock My World” has been a great series to work on and I’ve got a lot to add to it.

WHEN I LOOK IN THE MIRROR

Excerpt Two:

“What you saw wasn’t in your head. It was real.”

“What are you talking about? I saw Dante turning into a—into I don’t know what. How could that be real?”

Zack sighed, taking her hand. “Listen. There are things in this world you don’t understand. And Dante is one of them.”

Tatum gave him a look. Seriously?

“This stays between us.” Zack gently took her chin in his hand, tilting her head up to look at her directly, and then…

A sudden glittering haze seemed to surround them, and Zack’s eyes glowed white.

“What the—”

“Shh.” Zack held her still as the glitter dissipated, his eyes returning to normal. “Like I said, there are things you don’t understand. Not yet.”

“And you’re one of them? What are you?”

“You don’t need to worry about me. Worry about Dante.”

“And what’s Dante?”

Zack’s thumb caressed her cheek. “Dante is a demon.”

A demon. The idea would have seemed impossible that morning, and yet now it was somehow believable. Dante, who had given her the creeps since she first met him, who she had seen turning into a hideous creature in the mirror, was a demon.

“How do you know? Ezer has known him ages and never picked up—this.”

Zack rolled his eyes. “Ezer is great, but he’s not the kind of person to pick this up. I only invited him to see if he might have that power—he doesn’t. His senses are dead in the water.”

“And mine?”

“Besides…” Zack continued as though she hadn’t spoken. “Dante wasn’t always a demon. Remember Nicole’s party? That was when it happened. He’s been taken over.”

“You look happy.” Mary, his secretary, arranged the files on her desk, then rolled away from her computer. “Hot date?”

“Actually, yes. I’m heading to the baseball game.”

“You?” She folded her hands on her lap. “You aren’t into sports.”

“I love baseball.” He normally kept his private life to himself, so he didn’t discuss that he’d gone to the game the night before.

“Since when?”

“Since I went to my first game when I was six. My dad took me and it was bat day. I still have the bat, too. I fell in love with the sport, and I’m a devoted Cincy fan. Good or bad, I’m a fan.” He checked the stack of his messages. “I’m out. I need an evening with no law and lots of relaxation.”

“Why do I have the feeling you get emotionally involved in your sports? Are you going to see the Grinders game?” she asked.

“I do get invested.” The tips of his ears burned. “But I’m finally going on a date, so there’s that.”

“You are?” She applauded. “Good. I hope it works out and leads to something great.”

“Me, too.” He winked. “See you in the morning.” He strolled out of the main office to the parking lot. The firm wasn’t big and was rarely full. That’s what he loved about Mooresville―it wasn’t a big city. Everyone knew everyone else. Within hours of him going out, everyone would know he’d chosen Duff. Good. He wanted them to know. He wanted to shout to the whole world he’d picked this man.

He unlocked his car and slid behind the wheel. He should go home and change before attending the game, but he didn’t have time. He drove across town to the park. The Grinders weren’t a major league team, but they were popular in Mooresville. Their ballfield was part of the city park, meaning there was a lot of parking and seating. He wanted to be visible, so he parked under one of the lights and waited for Duff. A few people were already there, and the teams were on the manicured turf, stretching.

“You made it.” Duff strolled along the sidewalk. “I thought you’d change your mind.”

“Me? Nah.” Not a chance he’d forget to be here for this. “You’re here.”

“Did you think I’d leave you without a word?”

Can two broken souls be repaired with a lot of love and a little power from the gods?

Leto, the goddess of motherhood and womanly demure, wants to be anything but bashful. Working in Las Vegas in the music business has proven she can’t be coy if she has desires, but the man she loves isn’t available. What’s a goddess to do?

Help break a curse, that’s what.

Tommy has loved Leto since the day they met, but he never thought she’d want to be with him. He’s also got a girlfriend. When his girlfriend leaves him for his brother and curses him, it’s up to Leto and Tommy to admit their deepest desires—they want to be together.

There’s just the matter of breaking that pesky curse…

Hera sighed. “I’ll need to contact Zeus to get this fixed. Keep an eye on him and I’ll get the security team to move him inside, too.” She left Leto alone with Tommy.

Leto spread her hand on his arm. Unlike when Hera touched him, he felt this contact. Her touch, warm and inviting, seeped into his skin. He looked into her eyes. What’s happening to me?

She smiled and kept her hand on him. “So, here’s the problem. You were cursed. I don’t know how it happened, but you were. I can’t fix it right now, but Hera can.” She stroked his arm. “You’re not dying, but it’s like you’re being frozen.”

The revelation wasn’t very comforting.

“Who hates you so much that they’d curse you?” Her brow crinkled. “I learned the hard way that no one should be punished this way.”

He wished he could tell her the truth, but without his voice, he was helpless.

“I’ll make sure you’re in our suite, so I can keep you company.” She yanked her fingers away. “Sorry. I shouldn’t touch you without your approval.”

I don’t mind. He liked the way she touched him with reverence. Like he mattered. I wish you could hear me.

She tipped her head, then frowned. “When I left you out here, Missy passed me. She had a guy with her. I don’t know him.”

Of course she didn’t. He refused to subject Leto to Duncan. He might be Tommy’s brother, but Duncan was a rotten man. Duncan couldn’t handle not being on top and Tommy couldn’t lose Leto, especially not to him.

“I’ll fix this,” she said. “I refuse to let you stay in the stone. Promise.”

When she said those things, he believed her. He trusted Leto, too. When she smiled, he saw her in a different light. She could be his salvation.

Right now, she was his only hope.

Book Spotlight & Giveaway: Mayhem and the Marques

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. The author will be awarding a $10 Amazon/BN GC to a randomly drawn commenter. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Daughter of an infamous murderer, Ivy Wollard now wields knives instead of needlepoint to survive in a society where no one wants her. When the Marquess of Blackbourne comes along and ruins her chance at a better life, she decides she’d rather have her toes eaten by eels than agree to his proposed scheme. There’s no way her surrender has anything to do with the mesmerizing angle of his jawline or the wicked twinkle in his eyes.

But Asher Blackbourne has a secret. He knows it’s just a matter of time until he goes mad and loses his illustrious title, so when Ivy falls into his path, he realizes he could use her to keep his house of cards from falling down. If every illicit touch between them doesn’t drive him mad first, that is.

Yet Ivy cannot escape her grisly legacy and the dark desires of her father’s admirers. What if violence runs through her veins, and no one who gets close is safe? Mayhem will descend as this rake finally falls for the enigmatic woman who might be just his brand of poison…Er, cure, of course.

Blackbourne came towards the clawfoot tub, running a finger along the porcelain edge.

Ivy shrank back instinctively into the steam.

He chuckled. “Don’t worry, love. I won’t bite,” he drawled, and then paused. “Yet.”

She inhaled as his eyes flashed promises of things she wasn’t sure she understood.

“Your bathwater is quite thoroughly unrevealing with all those suds. What a pity.” He sighed, pulling the nearby chair closer to the tub and lowering himself down into it. “Will you wash your hair for me?”

Ivy blinked “Right now?” she choked, reaching up to pat her hair, which she’d styled in a high chignon.

He nodded, his posture relaxed, although Ivy knew this to be deceptive. He was waiting to hear her answer with taut focus. When she didn’t move a muscle, Blackbourne interrupted her tumultuous thoughts with a soft suggestion. “Let me help you.”

The words reached out to her with tendrils that wrapped her consciousness in a sensual fog, causing the hair on her nape to rise. This was not done, she knew. A proper lady would never allow a gentleman to touch her hair, much less while she bathed. But what about any of their arrangement was proper in the first place? Who would even know?

Besides him.

So she reached up slowly so as not to disturb the water covering her chest and drew the stickpin from her hair, letting its length fall in a heavy coil down her back.

His sharp intake of breath echoed in the tiled chamber.

Was that a good thing? Ivy’s body trembled as she watched him rise and come towards her through the steam…

Discover Flynn's Assassin by N.J. Walters

Welcome to the world of the Marks Mercenaries from author N.J. Walters in the new book set in the series world, Flynn's Assassin.

Flynn’s Assassin
Marks Mercenaries, Book 5
Genre: Science Fiction Romance
 Publisher: Evernight Publishing

When mercenary and space trader Flynn Marks is approached by a woman in a seedy bar, he assumes she’s not just looking for a good time. He’s made enemies over the course of his life. With his family finally safe and settled, he’ll handle this latest threat on his own.

Cerena Phelps has been tasked with killing a man if she ever wants to see her teenage son again. While she’s no stranger to fights—being a woman bouncer is a tough job—she’s never killed a man. Her plan? Lure Flynn away from the bar, seduce him, and kill him when his guard is down. Not a hardship given her unexpected and intense sexual attraction for her target. When her attempt on Flynn’s life fails, they must learn to trust each other if they both hope to survive and rescue her son.

Excerpt:

Cerena Phelps was making a huge mistake, but it wasn’t like she had a choice. Her mission was clear. Flynn Marks had to die.

If he didn’t…

She didn’t allow herself to contemplate failure. There was too much on the line.

She’d stalked her quarry to this bar all the while a part of her had hoped he’d jump right back on his ship and leave Oasis. There was no way her small craft could catch his deep-space-class trader.

“You gonna sit or just stand there?”

Flynn Marks was even more intimidating in person. She hadn’t seen a picture of him, but she’d been given a very accurate description. Still, it didn’t do him justice. Tall with one eye and a robotic arm, short black hair with a streak of white running through it. All accurate, but also misleading.

He wasn’t just tall. He was huge. She’d glimpsed him earlier, and he had to be at least six and a half feet of solid muscle. Scars radiated out from behind the patch on his eye, but they in no way detracted from his rugged good looks. His hair was buzzed so short it had been difficult to see the white streak in it.

Something inside her stirred. Something she hadn’t experienced in years—sexual attraction.
“I’m sitting.” She pulled the chair around, situating it closer to him. It served two purposes—to put her closer to the wall and to allow her to sit beside Flynn.

Taking a deep breath to calm her nerves and steady her racing heart, she stuck out her hand. “Cerena Phelps.” She didn’t see any point in lying about her name. After all, he could easily discover her identity if he was so inclined. This was likely a suicide mission anyway.

Her life didn’t matter. Her son’s life was priceless. And that was exactly what the bastard who’d taken Nix had been counting on.

Flynn’s hand completely engulfed hers. Heat radiated from him and into her skin. It was a shock, but a pleasant one. This attraction she had toward her assignment was both a help and a hindrance. If it got her close to him, all the better, but it was distracting, too.

She couldn’t forget for one second that her job was to kill the man currently touching her.

“Flynn Marks,” he replied. His voice seemed to reverberate deep inside her, causing every nerve ending in her body to vibrate.

When he released her, she wanted to grab his hand and hold on. Instead, she dropped her hand back to her lap. She had a plan and needed to stick to it. It was simple really. Get him to take her back to his ship, have sex, and when he was sated and his guard was down, she’d kill him.

“Try it.” Zelus nodded. “It’s not hard stuff. Just wine from Olympus.”

Oh Jesus. He’d heard this line of bullshit before. His friends wanted to sell their story about Olympus, but he wasn’t buying. He refused to drink. “If I down that, I might believe you and there’s no way that’s happening.”

Kay shrugged. “It’ll make you feel better.”

“To know you’re lying or to get drunk?” Charlie asked. “Olympus, Gods, statues … it’s not right to dick with people.”

Bia took a swig. “I get it.” She stayed beside him. “You think things are one way, then they go sideways. We keep trying to convince you to believe us, but we don’t show you what’s real.” She rested her head on his shoulder. “You’re right to be concerned.”

“Yeah.” He didn’t understand, but she seemed to care. He took the flask. Maybe drinking would help. He’d forget his problems for a while. Sure, the issues would still be there, but he’d have a respite. He tipped his head back and the sweet liquid slid down his throat. The drink reminded him of apples, but with spice. Not cider, though. His mouth chilled, but the liquid warmed his soul. His head swam. “I should stop.” He downed another swig. “Really.” But he wanted more.

“Then stop.” Kay took the flask. “Feel better?”

“Not really.” He leaned back against the foot of the statue. If he wasn’t mistaken, her foot felt warm. Real. Not possible. This had to be a figment of his imagination or a result of the drink. His mind was playing tricks on him. But why was he so horny all the sudden? Booze never made him want to hump everything in sight.

“Let’s get you home.” Zelus offered his arm. “Come on.”

“No.” He shook his head and blinked. “Did you drug me?”

“It’s the nectar of the gods.” Camden laughed. “Not drugs. Good, though, isn’t it?”

“It’s wine.” Andy helped Zelus hoist Charlie to his feet. “The wine amplifies your heart’s desire. You’re not drunk, I promise.”

He allowed them to help him to stand, but he shook his head. Life seemed to slow down. He blinked again. The horniness increased. He wriggled free from the guys. Neither could help him with his suddenly overactive libido. All six individuals were taken and none of them turned him on. “I don’t get it. There’s something wrong with me. I can’t find anyone to love me.” Why was he telling them this? He whooped, then faced the statue. “I bet I can’t even turn this statue on.” He hopped onto the base of the sculpture, standing nose to nose with the woman. “See?” He kissed her. “Think you can love me, baby? I’ll fuck you senseless, but I want to wear your clothes and have you fuck me, too. Isn’t that messed up?” He kissed the statue again. “See?” He glanced back at his friends. “She isn’t interested. No one is.” Oh well. Love, even with a statue wasn’t in his future. Such was life…

Blurb

Violinist Frederick Tremblay is one of the biggest names in classical music. When it comes to work, he’s all in. There is only time for music and working to make his dreams come through but none for love. Hell, he barely makes time to eat. When he agrees to play at an acquaintance son’s birthday party he figured he’d go in, make his rounds then go home—but his plans change when he walks into the path of Vaughan Singleton.

Vaughan “Sin” Singleton is the disowned heir to a candy empire. After he came out, his life basically ended and he had to start over from scratch. Joining the military was the thing to save him and also the one thing that brought him to his knees. Forced to retire, slinging alcohol wasn’t his dream but he needs something to pay the bills and to assist with easing back into civilian life. When he meets Frederick, Vaughan isn’t looking for love, but one unguarded moment changes everything.

From different sides of the track, Frederick and Vaughan have much to teach each other. But what is to become of their new romance when Frederick’s quirks come to light and Vaughan’s brother shows up?

Excerpt

“Way to step out, man.” Deena giggled.

Frederick ignored her comment and put up his free hand. There was a man behind the bar, but he had his back turned and right now, no one else was there working with him. He looked to be busy drying glasses or perhaps washing. Though Frederick didn’t want to disturb him, he really wanted something else to quench his thirst.

“I’m sorry, excuse me, sir.”

The man turned around and approached them. “What can I get you?”

Frederick eyed the mature gentleman in front of him, taking in his features. Dark brown eyes, hair cut low with a beard and well trimmed mustache. His lips were thick. Kissable. Frederick loved a man with distinct features.

“Oh … um… I’d like a soda. Perhaps a 7-Up or Sprite if you have it.” Frederick continued staring, clutching his violin case tightly in his hands.

Deena seemed to pick up that he was tongue tied. “And I’ll have a beer. Heineken if you have it?”

“Heineken for the lady and a—um—soda for the gentleman,” the bartender said. There was a slightly hitch in the way he said soda, almost as if in disbelief. He then focused his attention on Deena. “Would you like the bottle or a glass?”

“The bottle is fine. I’m a simple kind of gal.” She giggled.

Frederick smiled at the man, still holding onto his violin as if it were a life raft. He wondered why the bartender seemed put off by his request. “Something funny about 7-Up or Sprite?”

The bartender eyed him with his head tilted slightly to the side. “Oh nothing.” He spoke, his lips forming over the two words making them escape his being easily. “Nothing at all.” Without another word, he walked over for a clean glass that sparkled. They had the word Prince’s with a crown on the side in golden letters. Using large hands, the bar man operated the tap to expertly fill the glass with Sprite before grabbing a green bottle of Heineken from a cooler and prying off the cap. When he returned he set the glass before Frederick without a word but offered Deena a smile with her drink. “Ma’am?”

“Thanks.” Deena batted her eyelashes at him.

Flirtatiously.

Frederick suppressed a growl and eyed his glass, watching the bartender walk away again. For some reason, it bothered him that the guy appeared to be bothered by his choice of beverage. “I don’t drink alcohol, by the way. I’m sort of boring. The fact I play violin is the most interesting thing about me.” Frederick set Gabriel beside him in a vacant chair. He lifted the glass to his lips and swallowed slowly, still gazing at the handsome gentleman working the bar.

Deena nearly spat out her beer, and she nudged him with her elbow.

“To each their own,” the bartender said. “Did anyone let Stuart know you’re here?”

Frederick finished his Sprite, still gawking at the man. “Yes, the hostess did. I suppose she’ll be back shortly. Do you mind if I ask your name?” Frederick thought he’d go for broke even though it was quite possible he’d be barking up the wrong tree. A part of him said he wasn’t, or perhaps he hoped that to be true.

Deena gasped next to him, seemingly in surprise.

The bartender moved to stand directly across from Frederick, braced his elbows into the bar and leaned in. “If you wish to tell my boss I’ve been an ass to you,” he said, his voice warm and rough. “You don’t need my name for that. All you have to do is tell him the black guy at the bar. I’m the only one here.”

Frederick shivered at the sound of the man’s voice and how he leaned in so close to him. Instead of shying away as he usually did, he decided to play the game. “Actually, I wasn’t thinking that at all. More like, I wanted to know your name so I know the lovely man that is taking such good care of us tonight and, maybe might like to have a drink with me after my performance?” Frederick knew he was going for broke. Gazing at the bartender, Frederick had every intention on finding out something about him, even if it was the disappointing news he’d dread.

“I see.” The barman licked his lips. “I’m working. Drinking on the job is strictly prohibited, and besides—you’re not a fan of alcohol.”

Frederick sighed inwardly. He looked to Deena for help, but she only kept drinking her beverage.

Guest Author Day with Mary Corrales

Please give a warm welcome to author Mary Corrales as we talk about everything and anything. Plus she has a new release, Bet Your Sweet Aces, out now at Evernight Publishing.

Q) What started your interest in writing?
A) I've been an avid reader all my life. My mom used to read me Little Golden books, and I just loved the stories. From then, I wanted my write my own magical lands and characters. I still have a few story books from childhood that I love to reread.

Q) What genres do you write in?
A) I write erotica and erotic romance, and within those genres my writing ranges from contemporary suspense to paranormal, and futuristic. I love to experiment with world-building and characters.

Q) What is your book about?
A) My newest release is a contemporary suspense titled, Bet Your Sweet Aces. It's a sassy story about a casino owner who's gotten herself into trouble because of secrets and misplaced loyalty. She's facing a scandal with a married senator and the hero comes along at just the wrong time to turn her world upside down. I suppose love will do that to a woman though. *grin* Luckily, the hero is just what she needs in more ways than one.

Q) Are any of your characters like you?
A) I'd say there are aspects of my personality in all my books. In Bet Your Sweet Aces, Eve has a sassy mouth that I can admit is rather me. I enjoy innuendos and getting men to blush. I don't know if I flirt much, but being more an alpha female personality, I'm comfortable with myself.

Q) What was the hardest part of writing your book?
A) The numerous times I had to rewrite the story. Bet Your Sweet Aces is a labor of love, but it took several publisher rejections for me to get the story to be its best. It was all worth it though.

Q) If you could be any paranormal creature what would you be?
A) A vampire. I'm not into the blood thing, but I'm a night person by nature. I'm most creative at night, even if I have to hold off on writing until the morning.

Q) Do you keep a notebook near you for when new ideas pop in your head?
A) Actually, I'm a paper scrapper. My writing area is littered with bits of paper with book ideas, characters, and/or settings for several different books. I do know where everything is, but yeah, it isn't pretty. I'll write on scrap of paper when I get an idea.

Q) Has there been any characters that started off as supporting characters, but then developed into a more prominent character?
A) Yes. I'm currently working on edits to the sequel to Love's Demon Ways, thanks to a supporting character named Sindriel. He's a demon-bargainer in LDW, but he's just too sexy to not to have his own book. I think readers will enjoy getting to know him better.

Q) Who is the biggest influence in your writing?
A) I have an amazing support system of family and friends, but writer-wise I'd say fellow author, Kari Thomas, is my biggest influence. She's a great paranormal romance author and I try to keep up with her. She and I challenge one another to keep writing when the other falters. I hope to someday be as successful as her.

Q) How do you relax after a day writing?
A) Actually, writing is my relaxation. *grin* I can do anything, say anything, make anything happen in my stories. I love that. It's a great feeling to heal a broken hearted soul, or punish a butthead. Loneliness and rejection come to an end when it comes to my stories. I make it worth the fear for my characters to fall in love.
