Detective Aidan Calloway is rock-solid strong. He's a man of justice—loyal to his friends, family, and job—even if it requires bending a law…or two. He shields himself behind an abrasive, fearless facade, until a phone call one night chips his armor and throws his perfectly planned, hollow life into a tailspin.
Jessie Vega is the epitome of optimism. His carefully crafted attitude of hope and positivity protects him from a past filled with too much pain. When a ghost from a dark time resurfaces and nearly breaks him, he must tap into his inner strength or risk losing everything he's worked so hard to build.
But Jessie can't do it alone. He must fight to break through Aidan's ironclad defenses to reveal the heart of the man hiding beneath the tough surface and mend his damaged spirit. Only then can they truly heal and become strong enough to battle the demons that haunt them and threaten their chance to finally be together.

Although part of a series, this book can be read as a stand-alone.
“This book is wonderful and beautifully worded. Jessie has a gift with words.” - Reader Review
“This story is not only an emotional roller coaster but it is full of action and mystery as well. There are several different stories all coming to a proverbial head in this book, and the outcome is excellent.” - Alpha Book Club
(This is taken from a scene between Aidan and Jessie.)
"You don't give up, do you?"
"Not when it comes to you. No."
"Jess, I'm not easy. I have more baggage than the underbelly of a cargo plane."
"Then I'll set my bags right next to yours."
He shook his head. No one had ever been this relentless to be with his miserable ass.
"I've got one last question for you," Jessie said.
Aidan turned his head slightly toward him but refused to make eye contact.
"Do you…" Jessie hesitated and rubbed his hands on his thighs again, revealing a hint of that introverted, vulnerable side others usually saw when they looked at him. "Do you want to be with me?"

Point-blank. That was the million-dollar question that determined how this conversation would end. Even if he did have enough energy to erect his shield, he couldn't lie to Jessie. He exhaled heavily. "More than anything."

"Then that settles it."

"Jess…it's not that easy."
"Don't make it harder."
Aidan sighed. "I'm not used to this," he said, gesturing between them with his hand.

"Talking or having a relationship?"
"Either. Both. Fuck if I know."
"Okay. Well, you've never had a problem talking to me before, so we'll work up to the big stuff. One detail a week. I'm not going to stress you out with a one-a-day quota. One detail we wouldn't share with anyone else."
One a week. Aidan forcefully rubbed his hands together. He could handle that. Maybe. Sorta.
"And as far as the whole relationship thing, I'm not an expert. But, we kinda already have something. Don't you think?" Jessie looked over to him with a hint of a smile playing in his expression, cocking his head.
He definitely wasn't an expert in relationships, but if Jessie thought this defined a relationship, then maybe he could totally handle this.
Jessie bumped his shoulder. "We're just missing out on all the fun stuff."
Aidan groaned. It drove him nuts when Jessie teased him.
"I'm not saying it'll be easy. I know…" Jessie hesitated and rubbed his thighs again. "I know we're both very different from each other and from what other people usually see when they look at us. But…I see you, not the guy you want everyone else to see. And you're worth it, Aidan. It bothers me that you don't recognize how amazing you are, but I'm willing to give this a shot. I just…I hope you think the same of me." He quieted for a few moments then subtly nodded, concluding some internal conversation. "You work at things so you can appreciate the success at the end."
Aidan shook his head and scoffed. Jessie and his inspirational poster lines…too fucking cute to deny. His ability to take a mountain and turn it into a few pellets of dust always amazed Aidan. Jessie was bossier than people could imagine and far more of a control freak than anyone suspected.
"Jess."
"Yeah?"
"You're totally worth it."
Jaime Reese is the alter ego of an artist who loves the creative process of writing, just not about herself. Fiction is far more interesting. She has a weakness for broken, misunderstood heroes and feels everyone deserves a chance at love and life. An avid fan of a happy ending, she believes those endings acquired with a little difficulty are more cherished.

Synopsis

After being released from a Toronto psych ward, Evie decides that her life needs a drastic change. Moving 500 miles east to stay with her aunt in Montreal, however, is not turning out as expected. Though she loves the city, she can’t outrun the problems that drove her to the edge in the first place. Recovery might be a little easier if not for Micha. Handsome, kind, always willing to help Evie or cheer her on--and completely invisible to everyone else. He seems to think he’s some kind of guardian angel, and she might need one now that things have gone from bad to just plain weird. It started with the spiders--ghostly spiders that showed up out of nowhere, swarming over Evie while she was home alone. Then the owls started following her. Her search of answers dredges up past lives, secret societies, and one very angry goddess. She’s going to need help from some very powerful friends if she wants to make it to her next birthday, but when one of those friends is the goddess of the underworld, she might need more help than a guardian angel can provide.

Excerpt

The shawl was nearby. Practically laying on the ground, I reached out a hand for it. The girls were too busy kneeling in rapture. The gathering had taken on a feeling of a tent revival, except instead of healing the sick they were planning on turning me into bar-b-que. Kelly's eyes had taken on the same ethereal glow as those of the owls; she was beyond the cares of the mortal world. Whatever she was doing, it seemed to be having an effect. I threw the shawl. It hit Kelly full in the face. She stumbled, her words becoming incoherent as she tried to pull it off, but it clung there like a wet towel and wouldn't let go, tangling into her short hair and catching on the sequined collar of her dress. In the split second distraction, I rolled away from the initiates and barreled through the women behind us, knocking them down by crashing my shoulder into their knees and hips. They were packed so closely that where one went down, another two would follow. I came up sprinting, diving for the elevator with them hot on my heels. I slammed my hand against the button, but the door didn't open. There was no way that I'd be able to wait for it come up from the lobby, but there were no stairs that I could see from this side of the cafe. Miraculously, Kelly was still trapped in the shawl, the knitting forming a net that covered her from head to toe. I thought of my torn poncho, and the things that Kelly had said about my former incarnations powers. I don't know how I did it, but the next thing that I knew the green and white awning had collapsed, trapping half of them in a makeshift net. I was so close to the wall that I was barely spared injury. The elevator door dinged open behind me. I dove inside. As soon as the door shut, I ripped off my heels. When it reached the first floor, I bolted out the door barefoot, ignoring the stares of the people around me, pushing past shocked tourists and horrified locals. I ran straight into traffic as I shot down the street, narrowly missing being run over by a bus. I was certain that the owls were overhead, tracking my every move. I had to get off of the street. Places d'Armes Metro station. I was through the doors and taking the escalator two steps at a time down to the platforms. They knew where I lived. They'd found me there before, and their creepy spiders--their legion--had been in the house. The train pulled up as I careened onto the platform. I skidded to a halt, catching myself on one of the poles inside. I collapsed into one of the hard plastic orange seats. I had the car to myself. I covered my face, trying to catch my breath and figure out what my next move would be. "Micha." The air beside me cooled noticeably, drawing goosebumps on my skin. He knelt in front of me and took my hand. "What do I do?" I asked. I was tapped out. My mind had stopped working, drawing a blank. "I need a safe place. But where can I go?" The only other person that I knew, that I trusted in the city, was Adam. I didn't want to put him in danger, but I didn't know what else to do. I got off at my usual stop, but walked down to his building, just two streets over. One of the lights in the upstairs windows was still lit and from the backyard I could hear what sounded like another party. I knocked on the front door. No one answered. Peering around back, I saw that I was right. Probably twenty people were gathered in what appeared to be an impromptu end-of-the-year bash. Strings of lights were hanging from the trees. Beer bottles were all over, coolers open to the night air. I hid in shadow for several moments, watching, until I saw something move out of the corner of my eye. It was only a beetle, but for a second I thought it was a spider and nearly panicked. Adam appeared on the back deck, beer in hand, peering at me over the railing. I saw him and nearly broke down. "Evie! Are you alright? I thought-" "I tried to come here, first, but he didn't understand me," Micha said. "It's okay." I squeezed his hand. Adam came down the steps and lead me towards the back door. "Inside. Come on." He ushered me in without so much as a word to the party goers. "Come on. Up here." He pulled me into what I assumed was his bedroom. Closet sized, with posters from comic book movies on the walls and an old Mac desktop in the corner, and a tv propped up on milk crates housing DVDs and video game cases. He sat me down on his bed. As soon as the door was closed I started to cry. I bawled. I don't know for how long. Adam knelt beside me and put his arms around me. I was shaking. When I could breath enough to speak coherently again, I spilled out the story of the evening and how it had all gone terribly wrong. Adam stared at me, wide-eyed in complete disbelief. I don't think he would have taken me seriously at all if not for his power. "Don't worry," he said. "Just...don't worry for right now." He laid me down, stroking my hair. "Just relax. It'll be fine. They won't find you here," he said. I felt my muscles relax. My mind was still worried, but it was distant. My eyes drooped. He covered me with his blanket. "We'll talk in the morning. We'll get this figured out." That was the last thing that I remember.

WRITERS WRITER... WRITING PARTNERS FEUD ~ All About Cassi 9

Come join us in our expose' on Cassi from BEYOND THE THRESHOLD.  She is a fun-loving, full-bodied hottie, who has her own unique look and style.  We thought it would be fun to expose, with emphasis on the word expose some of her outfits over the next several weeks.

ALL ABOUT CASSI

Cassi answered her apartment door with, "Merry Christmas, Beef." Her elaborate smile brightened her eyes, which expressed unique Joy to the World.

"Wow!"

She was wearing a short red with white cotton ball-looking fringe hoodie top; hood up.  The garment did not make it to her waist.  "Kiss me."  She puckered, and closed her eyes as if awaiting a special kiss-gift, opened one to see when.

His lips pressed against hers softly with familiar ease and just enough pressure to encourage hers to part.  Tongues were shared, a teasing duel, as the two embraced.  Though she was a statuesque woman, his towering height and hard, bulky size made her feel petite and ultra feminine.

"You taste great," remarked Cassi.

"You look exceptionally boobie-ish."

"Remember whoever has the boobs makes the rules."

"Girl, you must be ruling the world."

Cassi pulled the hood back revealing reindeer antlers and drop-down ears affixed to a headband.  Dangling from one horn spike was a red and white decorative Christmas ball.

"You are such a deer," quipped Beef.

"Kiss me!"

He grabbed her and slathered her neck with his mouth and interest, drawing a suck that rattled beneath her skin, tickled her insides; everywhere.  It was such an intoxicating kiss, inhibition altering, one that caused women to beg to be screwed.

The hoodie top could barely be closed, and her mammothly large boobs were popping forth, almost like trying to put far too many inflated balloons in a sack.

"Love your burst-forth with Christmas spirit.  You boobs tell me so."

"Kiss me."

"Flash me."

Cassi unbuttoned the hoodie and presented her boobage gift. Perfection in twin inflatable packages, adorned with inviting pinched pink nipples.  She was bombastic and taped two Christmas tree shaped sugar cookies to the nipples.  Beef had shared those tits before, but he was that dog who when their master came home acted like it was for the first time, frolicking.  He bit off both cookies, growling.  "Kiss me," she plead.

"Deck the halls with bells of folly."  Beef pulled her close, using his index finger he tracked a line from the corner of her eye, circling her cheek, ending at her lower lip.  A heated Cassi sucked the finger into her mouth; deep, nursing on it, wanting more.  He pulled it from her as she hungry baby bird-ed after it.  He took his mouth and captured her lower lip, sucked it into his mouth, lathering it with his tongue.  Their mouth conjoined, with heat, wetness, fervor, and raw movement.

Buried in the soul of this man was a primal need to make her feel wanted, while enjoying the journey there.  There time together had conjoined their hearts and hopes.

Cassi chose to wear the smallest of red bikini cut panties, leaving little left to the imagination.  The design was that of a basketball net weave, having gapping gaps between the twine.  Beef knew she mowed the grass off of the playing field, but her panties confirmed it.

"Naughty," he said.

"Trust me, it is also nice."

"But naughty feels so nice."

She stepped back, spun, the top fanned out.  "Do you like your present?  Want to open it?"

"Christmas is not about opening presents, as much as, opening hearts."

"Awww, you make me verklempt."  She reached out her arms, "One day you'll ask me, what's more important to me, you or my life.  I'll reply, my life.  You'll get hurt and leave without ever knowing that you are my life.  Kiss me."

They kissed as do lovers, not questing for lovemaking, but expressing that they did love.

Cassi looked at him, "What did you get me?"

"Something I hope you'll like.  It is just your size."

"I'm a big gal."

"It's big."

"Will it fit?"

"It stretches so we can make it fit."

"Well, give it to me."

"Kiss me under my mistletoe... belt buckle. That package you want is in my pants."

"So you have also been naughty, so all you will get is reindeer slobber."

She worked her mouth on his cock, knowing she was not going to be able to take it all in, but she would be able to pleasure it.  After fifteen minutes of mouth work, he came, whereas, she pulled it out so he could ejaculate on her face.  He did but most of it landed on her breasts.  She had the first gushing in her mouth, and it was quite a lot.  She swished it about in a playful way and then let it ooze rolling down her chin, then neck and ultimately her tits.

"Do it again," she begged.

"Let's shower."

Excerpt

Summer held its grip on the city, even though it was November and the Christmas crush had started. Every hour on the hour, the song Let it Snow played on the piped music system of the Grove at Farmer’s Market. Fake snow fell from strategic spots on roofs and lampposts. It was so goofy when the weather was so unseasonably warm. Lucky laughed as fake snowdrops landed on my cheeks. This outdoor complex, less than a mile from our house, was our go-to place and we loved it. We liked the fish family, as we always called them. We could never decide on the daily specials because everything was wonderful and dirt cheap. The waitresses laughed with Lucky. Their hopeful stares faltered as he brushed white flakes from my nose and kissed me. There was no mistaking we were lovers. I veered between wanting people to know he was mine and keeping a safe, respectable appearance. Stunned at the array of food they’d plied him with, I felt a wave of fury riding high in me. “They gave you Shrimp Louie?” I asked, feeling a stab of jealousy. “Fat free dressing,” he said. I laughed. “My baby inhales French fries but likes fat free dressing.” “Of course. You know I pick my carbs. Say, let’s finish this. I smell the caramel corn popping.” We ate in silence. We never ran out of things to talk about. It was our first awkward moment together. Ever. It took me by surprise because we never stopped moving our lips. They were either on each other’s mouths, asses, or cocks, arranged around food or great conversation. But we sat, both so quiet, the weight of truth hanging like a steel wrecking ball between us. He decided to kick the ball. “Jack, it’s only a few weeks. We’ll be together for Thanksgiving, one way or another.” “Fuck. It sucks.” “Yeah, it sucks. But think how much fun we’re gonna have when we meet up again.” “Shut up,” I said and he laughed. He took my hand. “Popcorn calls.” We pushed through the lunchtime crowd and bought a bag of it, still warm from the pot. We sampled some fresh coconut corn and bought a pound of that too. We loaded up on slices of fresh butter toffee after tasting tons of different blends. We couldn’t agree on the peppermint bark and chose candy cane bark instead. We snapped up miniature kiwi fruit and persimmons at the fruit stall. I was validating the parking ticket when I saw him open his cell phone. “It’s time,” he told me. “They’re ready to roll.” We went home to our little studio guest house in back of a Pepto Bismol pink duplex on Havenhurst Drive. When I first met him, Lucky had a gorgeous house in the Larchmont district. It was an elaborate prop, part of his undercover disguise as a Mafioso. Now he was on to another secret assignment and I would still be here, working with my own team. There would always be busts, there would always be separations, but this was the first. He put his hand on my thigh as we waited for a light on the corner of Melrose. “It fucking blows monkey chunks, Jack.” “Yeah. It does.” He stared straight ahead. “I’m going to ask you once and lie to me if you have to, but can you be faithful? Please tell me you won’t fuck anyone else. Please…just don’t do it.” “I won’t.” I don’t think.

Book Spotlight & Giveaway~ Send Lawyers, Guns & Roses

Today we are taking a look at Heloise West's Send Lawyers, Guns and Roses. Don't forget to enter the giveaway at the end of the post for a chance to win one of three e-copies of the book from the author. The contest closes on May 23rd and the tour is sponsored by Pride Promotions.

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Heloise West, author of Send Lawyers, Guns, and Roses.

Hi Heloise, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.

Heart and Haven is a series concept born of the first novel Hitting Black Ice. Love on the run, romantic suspense as danger tightens around the two main characters. Once Alex and Hunter begin to recover from the trauma in the first novel, they find that the repercussions from the past still have a hold on them. The gift of a vacation in the Caribbean is meant to bring them together so they can do more romancing and relaxing in safety. I love the movie Key Largo and took inspiration from that for the story.

My background? Reader, English major, writer. I’m boring. I garden, live with cats and boyfriend in northern New England, and work in Healthcare. All the action and excitement is in my head.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Alex Crow:

I wanted to be Indiana Jones and a teacher. One of my mother’s has a degree in anthropology and taught for a time before she got into her import shop. I love languages, but I couldn’t see myself teaching grammar day and day out. As I got older, my real love turned out to be history, so I thought I’d be an academic and teach at the college level. Maybe I’ll teach when I get out of the FBI—if I get into the FBI.

When Hunter and Alex are given the vacation of a lifetime, it’s a chance for them to pay attention to romance and get out of the path of danger. The tiny Caribbean island of Saba is gorgeous, the first to have marriage equality, and the Sabans are the nicest people on earth.
There’s lots of rum poolside for relaxing and a room with a mirror on the ceiling for passion. Hot karaoke nights, cold beer, and new friends.

But their new friends Orfeo and Max, and Max’s sister Talisha, share a troubling secret. Alex and Hunter want to help. As a hurricane bears down on them, a dead body surfaces, and a purple backpack loaded with stolen jewels leads a pair of dangerous men to the island.

Alex would rather poke his own eyes out with a pointy stick than call on his old enemy Nick Truman for help; he’d also do anything to keep Hunter out of danger. But even his nemesis can’t reach them now.

Once again, they only have each other to depend on as their paradise is about to become hell on earth.

Excerpt:
“Ready? Take the beach bag. I’ll grab the chairs,” Alex said. “Did you get enough to eat?”
“Yeah. What’s the time?” Hunter slung the bag over his shoulder.
Alex shrugged. “Who cares? Have a cocktail. You know, to hydrate and pace yourself for a long day in the sun.”
“Let’s set up camp. Maybe a nap first.”
Their bare feet slapped against the sun-bleached boards of the footbridge, some of the flowering rainforest clinging to its edges for the hundred or so feet from the breakfast patio to the pool. The beach chairs were striped canvas and wood, chaise-style. Alex had grabbed a matching umbrella for when the sun was directly overhead. He left it closed, as they had a few hours yet before noon, by the arc of the sun in the unbelievably blue sky. The poolside held a half dozen chaise lounges and couples of various ages. They returned languorous, sun-soaked greetings in English, Dutch, and French as Alex led them to a spot he deemed worthy for their day in the sun. When the chairs were side by side, the canvas beach bag between them, Hunter sighed with pleasure, though he was soaked with sweat. He pulled off his T-shirt. “Do you want to swim first?”
“I’m dying to.” With a wicked grin, Alex slid his shorts down, the T-shirt hem falling to below his hips.
“Tell me you didn’t get a thing-thong!” God, they’d laughed together at the online models wearing bathing suits with pockets for their cocks.
Alex laughed. “No, a Speedo. For you.” He shrugged out of his T-shirt with an elegant, mouth-watering play of muscles and skin, and some of the lounging women whistled and clapped for the navy-and-white-striped Speedo he revealed. Hunter mock-growled and reached out to grab Alex, but he dashed away and ran along the side of the pool, blond hair streaming, long, muscular legs eating up the distance to the deep end. He dived like a happy dolphin into the water. Hunter ran after him and followed with a hurried, sloppy dive, shocked at the sensation of water as warm as bathwater. He wanted to melt into it. When he came up for air, hands beneath the water gripped his calves, and he grabbed a breath before Alex yanked him under. They wrestled briefly, then surfaced.
“Fantastic!” Alex shook his head briskly to whip the water from his hair.
Hunter shoved him, threw himself on top of him, and they went under again.
When they surfaced, Alex said, “We can rent a sailboat. Or a rowboat and paddle around in the bay. Or fish if you want. Do you think your leg will hold up to snorkeling?”
“Snorkeling, maybe even scuba.” He’d swim to the moon to keep Alex happy.
“I was born underwater,” Alex said, surprising him. “I even had those infant swim lessons.”
“You’re a natural,” Hunter replied. “Aqua Boy.”
Alex shoved him again; Hunter let himself fall backward into the water with a huge splash.
They swam for a while, joined by the other sunbathers when the heat got too intense. Hunter pulled himself from the pool and sat on the edge, watching Alex do laps. He shaded his eyes against the fierce touch of the sun. It pressed against his skin despite the water-resistant sunblock, and he splashed water up and down his arms, chest, and neck to cool off. Maybe he should have gone tanning like Alex had, because it hurt to touch his skin already. The water reflected and intensified the sun. He wasn’t that kind of redhead, but the tropical sun made him feel like one. Tanning had seemed kind of frou-frou…not for him…but he didn’t want to look like a strip of bacon at the end of the day either. Sucked it up and endured the tanning bed.
Alex swam over and pulled his gorgeous body out of the pool to sit on the edge beside Hunter. “I’m ready for some reading and napping. Lunch buffet is open until four… What are you laughing at?”
“We must be on vacation if we’re planning the day around the next meal.”
Alex smiled. “It’s about ten now. We can eat something light at eleven when they open.” He leaned in close. “If we go up to the room by noon, we’ll have time to screw our brains out until about two and have lunch again.”
Hunter nodded. It was all he could do.
“So it’s not meal times we’re planning for, right?” The sparkle in Alex’s eyes wasn’t about ham sandwiches and fruit salad. “Did you see the awesome mirror on the ceiling?”
