  BLURB
Disgraced FBI agent Nick Truman has failed to save his sister, held hostage by a drug cartel until he could give them Alex Crow, who eluded him. His epic downfall lands him in witness protection, where he plays by the rules and keeps to himself. But the murder of his neighbor brings danger to his door. He unexpectedly finds himself the champion of innocents and helplessly attracted to the homicide detective in charge of the case. This can't end well. Homicide Detective Hank Axelrod is good at digging out secrets, maybe because he hides a big one of his own. He also suspects his husband has one foot out of the door of their marriage and the specter of single life looms unpleasantly on the horizon. A murder resembling another brings Nick into his world, a man who claims to be a mystery writer looking for a real life resource. Hank's instincts say he's more than that, and he's rarely wrong. Torn between the errant soon-to-be-ex husband and the distracting, sexy stranger, Hank needs to focus all his attention on his murder case before he becomes the next victim.

  EXCERPT

It was different when he’d wanted information from Nick. Hank wanted to confide in Nick, like with the partner he used to have before he got stuck with Burgess. Like Nick knew what he was talking about—could be trusted. “Are you a cop?” Nick touched his fingers to his mouth. He must have needed a cigarette, if the telltale scent of tobacco was any indication. “I answered that one already. Nope.” That nope was annoying. “Fed? PI? Security?” Hank threw out a few more. “Reporter? Work for the criminal court?” “I drive limos,” Nick said with a languid shrug. Glancing over his shoulder at the impatient date, he held up two fingers. “Oh, a fan, are you? Watch CSI, NCIS—a lookie-loo?” By the tightening of his mouth into a sneer, that pissed Nick off. “I’m no cop wannabe. I don’t watch the idiot box.” Well, shit. The pain in Nick St. Cloud’s brown eyes was real. Deep. Hank gave him a minute to recover, watching him rub his wrists, then naked arms. It gave Hank a thrill, as if he could feel the man’s heated skin on his own. “Don’t be a bastard, Detective.” “Well? I can run a background check on you in a heartbeat.” Nick tried to hide it, but a flare of panic made his pupils dilate. “And if I say I’m not that extremely guilty guy who hangs around helping the know-nothing cops, you’ll believe me?” “You’re something. What is it, I wonder?” Don’t tease the cat, Hank. “Okay.” A bead of sweat dripped past a pale white scar at his hairline, the only imperfection Hank could see. “I’m a writer, not a journalist. I mean, I’m a mystery writer.” “Published?” “Nope, not yet. So maybe you can be a resource, you know? I can do a ride-along with you or something.” Nick looked away, back toward Probably and gave him a nod. Probably picked up his sweater from the back of the chair and stood. “Sure,” Hank agreed. “Wait, what—really?” Hank held still a moment, beer glass halfway to his mouth, unsure what he was seeing in Nick’s intelligent eyes. Hope? Excitement? Fear? “We can talk about procedure—I’ve got some good stories. But I don’t know about the ride-along at this point. My partner’s a prick.” “But we can meet…and talk.” Nick stood and dug into his pocket for his wallet. “I’ve got this.” Hank waved it away. “You want the book to be accurate, right? It’s good PR too.” Nick’s smile curled Hank’s toes. “On me next time. We can meet here or wherever.” Nick hovered, as if Hank had held out something sweet to him, and he was afraid to take it. Probably cleared his throat loudly. “Have a good night, Nick,” Hank said. “We’ll talk. You have my number.” What did you just do?

While Zeke helps the shaman Alistair in his hunt for an elusive mermaid, Ian is called to confront a wicked nymph preying on tourists along Seattle's waterfront. Zeke and Ian soon discover that the defeated Queen Ysolde has spread her evil into the sea realms, and danger lurks beneath every wave. But it's too late to stop an escalating series of confrontations that lead to disappearances, death and the possible end of light in this world.   EXCERPT “Someone has to restore the balance between light and dark energy. I’m one of the last of my kind. I might be the only one who can do it.” Ian slid his hands off the table and rested them on his thighs. He expected derisive laughter from Zeke or a gentle clucking accompanied by a sad shake of the head. Sure, Ian Evers, nobody reporter for a gossip rag, half-breed elf, was going to save the world and fix what Ysolde spent centuries destroying. Zeke’s face remained impassive, but a storm brewed in his eyes. “You’re not the last of the liosa. Others escaped.” “I might as well be. They’re all gone, run off to hide out beyond…” Ian waved a hand in the air, signifying that remote world he sometimes glimpsed when they made love. Glaring out the windows into their backyard, Zeke breathed deeply but said nothing. Ian continued. “If I start with some miniscule adjustments, push back against the places the dark realm has encroached on this world, maybe some liosa will come out of hiding.” “They won’t like you being with a svarta,” Zeke said. “That’s their problem. I know I might never be buddies with other liosa, but we could use their help, right? If Ysolde is plotting to retake her throne like you say, and the svarta are behind her—” “Only some of them. We don’t need anyone’s help.” “Yes, we do. We never would’ve defeated Ysolde without Alistair’s and Cleona’s help.” Zeke leaned forward, his gaze now focused intently on Ian. “We’re stronger now. We need to concentrate on solidifying our connection and making sure no one can break it.” “You think someone could?” Ian asked. Surprised by the fear he saw lurking behind his lover’s composure, he instinctively put his hands on the table and reached for Zeke’s. Zeke allowed his hands to be held without reacting. “You couldn’t track me in the dark realm,” Zeke said. “I’m afraid the same would be true if you ever go off into the realm of light. I’ll lose you.”

Tihar travels to Earth to find and claim a Jones’ female. He knows they are fearless, psychic warriors and talented in bed sport. Ten minutes after meeting Sarah, Tihar knows the feisty, little human is the one he has been searching for. Now he must convince Sarah, she’s meant to be his.

The first-time Sarah sees Tihar, she's a bit freaked out. The Askole warrior has tentacles, snakelike features and black armored-plated skin. Even weirder she finds him strangely attractive. Tihar’s torso is sculpted perfection and his black scales are kind of sexy. Who knew challenging Tihar to combat would start the Askole mating dance. He thinks Earth girls are easy and he’s about to learn messing with a Jones female is never a good idea.

As the two grow closer, their romance comes to a screeching halt when Askole rebels attack Tihar’s home world. He tells Sarah she is his heart’s destiny and he will love her to the end of time. He abruptly severs their mental bond and disappears. Reeling from shock, Sarah won’t let a galactic war stop her from hunting him down. Can the two of them find their way back into each other’s arms?

Excerpt:

Poof! A tall, stick thin Coletti female wearing a pointy metal hat and bronze breastplate over a screaming red body suit appeared on the terrace and surveyed us like we were dog poop she had accidently stepped in.

“Say howdy to Lilkee, the paranoid whack job.” I waved at her all friendly like. “Lookin’ for your death bringers?”

She totally ignored me and drew her sword. Lilkee’s entire focus was on Detja. If looks could kill, Detja would be toes up.

“Lilkee,” Detja said, her voice terse and unfriendly. “Zarek is not here.”

The whack job smirked and stroked the hilt of her gem encrusted sword. “I know. I came to see the pitiful female your half-breed son has chosen.”

“Half-breed? Pitiful?” Kaylee narrowed her eyes. “One more insult and that skinny bitch is gonna get her ass kicked.”

“We’ll help,” I said.

Her lips curled in contempt, Lilkee examined Kaylee from head to toe. “You are nothing, but a filthy little primitive whose pathetic planet Malik plans to wipe from existence.”

“The only one being wiped from existence is Malik.” Kaylee stood. “If you’re a smart girl, you’ll leave now, before I beat the living shit out of you.”

“I am Coletti, daughter of Zarek. You could never defeat me,” Lilkee said proudly.

Kaylee punched her hard in the mouth, knocking her down. “Wanna bet?”

Two dozen Genghis Khan wannabes appeared around us.

“Oh, hell.” I grabbed a butter knife off the table.

“Kill them,” the whack job commanded.

Talking with the Author....

Thanks for stopping by to talk a little about your writing! Let's jump right in. When did you begin writing and why?
Thank you so much for inviting me on your blog. I’m so pleased to be here! I started writing around twelve years old. I wrote fiction, poetry, non-fiction, plays, anything I could dream up. I loved being able to escape into other worlds. I had so many ideas and no one had written them yet. So I had to write them myself!

Do you have a favorite genre? Is it the same genre you prefer to write?
As a reader I like any genre fiction (it’s the mainstream literary that I’m not as fond of). I like science fiction, fantasy, paranormal, mystery, horror, historicals, erotic romance, bdsm, you name a genre, I’ve probably got a shelf devoted to it in my home. LOL! That said, I primarily write science fiction with occasional mysteries and fantasy or paranormal. I also love to write flash fiction. I’ve written stories in as few as 100 words to 1,000 words.

Do certain themes and ideas tend to capture your writer’s imagination and fascinate you?
Yes! I’ve noticed that my books tend to have characters that are required to step out of their comfort zone and take a chance. I felt exactly like that when I submitted my first short story to an anthology. I also usually have strong themes of family versus independence. And in my latest book, THE MOONLIGHT MARKET, I explore the idea of second chances—why they are so important to grab when they are offered and why they aren’t always easy to accept.

Do you have a favorite author who introduced you to the genre?
My earliest books of fantasy were J.R.R. Tolkein and C.S. Lewis. Their worldbuilding inspires me to this day. I also grew up reading children’s books by Alexander Key, especially THE CASE OF THE VANISHING BOY and THE FORGOTTEN DOOR. Those protagonists seemed at first to be ordinary people, but as the books continued, it became more and more clear that there was something a little different about them.

What advantages or challenges does a writer in your genre face in today’s fiction market?
Since my books often contain more than one genre as well as LGBTQA characters, they are a little harder to find a market for. One reader might like fantasy but be put off by the horror elements. Another reader might enjoy the magical realism but hate the contemporary love story. It’s a difficult conundrum for me to overcome because I want to write the best book I can, but I also write the book of my heart. And that book doesn’t always settle into a cookie-cutter genre category.

Tell me a little about the characters in THE MOONLIGHT MARKET.
Cory Long is my first hero in THE MOONLIGHT MARKET. He’s an Asian-American who along with his sister Poe, were orphaned when their parents died in a car collision during his freshman year. Now a college senior, he’s struggling to keep a roof over their heads, graduate, and keep his sister from disappearing forever. Sanderson Beets is a junior at the same university. He comes from a family of performers and left the circuit in order to pursue a degree. He’s pretty unhappy when they call him back for a family performance because it threatens to undermine the independence he’s fought so hard for. And when he returns, his family learns that he was able to leave for college only because he made a dangerous bargain with a witch known as the Weaver of Dreams.

Where’s the story set? How much influence did the setting have on the atmosphere/characters/development of the story?
The setting had a lot of influence over my characters. The Moonlight Market (which the book is named for) is almost another character in the story. It’s a magical place that only appears once a year in a tiny town up the coast. The market is open from sundown to sunrise. It has performers, food sellers, and vendors selling wares from across the globe. You can always find something extraordinary at the Moonlight Market. It’s in this setting that Cory and Sanderson learn more about each other than they ever did on campus. They stay up all night searching for a lead to the whereabouts of Cory’s missing sister, getting punchy with lack of sleep, growing dependent on each other, and weather betrayal. The magic of the market envelopes them and makes them its own.

If you had to write your memoir in five words, what would you write?
Off Adventuring. Be Back Soon.

How often does your muse distract you from day to day minutiae?
Always! However, I have a really good system in place for taking notes wherever I am. I have an Evernote account. I often email myself notes. I’ve even been known to tuck a sticky note in my wallet only to find it the next time I got to pay for a purchase.

What do readers have to look forward to in the future from you?
Readers of my Forbes and Oliver story, THE BREAK-IN will be happy to hear that the first short story in the Busted Labs series, THE APPLICANT, has been expanded into a novella and will be published next year by Dreamspinner Press. In it, roboticist Forbes Pohle is interviewing applicants for a lab assistant position only to find a time traveler on his doorstep. And meanwhile there’s a rather destructive teddy bear robot wrecking his lab. I hope everyone will check it out!

Thanks so much again for hosting me!

GENRE:  LGBTTQ, Fantasy & Paranormal, New Adult

College senior Cory Long tracked his missing sister to the magical Moonlight Market to bring her home. Instead, he found a disorienting world of performers and hawkers, bizarre sights and sounds, and one very familiar showman, Sanderson Beets. Like a drowning man, he latched onto Sanderson, trusting him to navigate the twists and turns of the Market as unerringly as he had steered Cory to passion in their furtive trysts on campus.

But Sanderson was tired of being the quickie in the alley.

Sanderson Beets had escaped the Moonlight Market to attend college, hoping to settle into a normal life, maybe meet someone and fall in love. To obtain that new life he made a dangerous bargain. And when the sinister woman known as the Weaver of Dreams is involved, second chances always come with strings attached…and sacrifices. Sanderson’s debt has come due, and the only payment he has to offer is Cory, and their chance at a relationship.

Excerpt Three:
He almost ignored it.

Almost.

Tiny bells tinkled nearby.

They sounded closer.

His skin tightened with goose bumps.

Niari glided into the pool of light cast by the lantern hanging on the back of the tent. Her long, inky dress brushed the bells on her ankles and pulled the shadows forward with her.

“Your debt is coming due.” Her trilling, accented voice floated over the noise from the fairway beyond. In front of the tent children giggled and laughed, the calliope blared out its joyous concert, and the lanterns burned away the darkness. But Sanderson stood in the shadows behind…with her.

Sweat coated his palm, and it slipped from the curtain. He swiped at the bead of perspiration on his upper lip, the pit of his stomach icing into a lump.

“I found someone.” He blurted out the words. “A lost soul. Someone who’s lost something.”

Panic bloomed in Sanderson’s chest. Was he actually going to offer Cory to the Weaver? Cory who just wanted to find his missing sister. Cory of the soft hair, bitable nipples, and beautiful, slim cock. Who made Sanderson feel normal. Like a regular guy.

“Good.” Her smile widened, filled with too many tiny teeth that gleamed bright in the lantern light. “Are they tasty and ripe?”

“Madame?” Sanderson’s gut twisted at the hard glitter in her eyes. A chill crept down his spine. She looked…hungry.

He blinked. Niari stood before him, still and silent, waiting, just a woman again. The malevolent flash must have been a trick of the dim light. He shrugged off the unease and shook the numbness from his fingers.

Guest Author Day with Gail Koger

Thanks for stopping by to talk a little about your writing! Let's jump right in. When did you begin writing and why?

I was a 9-1-1 dispatcher for the Glendale Police Department and to keep from going totally bonkers – I mean people have no idea what a real emergency is. Take this for example: I answered, “9-1-1 emergency, what’s your emergency?” And this hysterical woman yelled, “My bird is in a tree.” Sometimes I really couldn’t help myself, so I said, “Birds tend to do that, ma’am.” The woman screeched, “No! You don’t understand. My pet parakeet is in the tree. I’ve just got to get him down.” Like I said, not a clue. “I’m sorry ma’am but we don’t get birds out of trees.” The woman then cried, “But… What about my husband? He’s up there, too.” See what I had to deal with? To keep from hitting myself repeatedly in the head with my phone I took up writing.

Do you have a favorite genre? Is it the same genre you prefer to write?

I love science fiction, paranormal romance books and anything with humor in it. I write science fiction and paranormal stories because the little voices in my head won’t leave me alone until I do. Go figure.

Do certain themes and ideas tend to capture your writer’s imagination and fascinate you?

I’m not your typical writer. I have all these weird critters and hunky aliens running amok in my head. Wulf, a Coletti warlord, was a persistence bugger. Nag. Nag. Nag. Write my story. Write my story. The thing about Coletti warlords is; they’re the ultimate predator with a taste for blood, a passion for battle and the need to control everything in their lives. I ignored Wulf until he showed me his man parts. Hoo boy. That got my attention. It was long, snakelike and had tentacles. Yakira, his long-sought mate, claims the tentacles are better than sex toys. Ya think?

How do you balance long-term thinking vs. being nimble in today's market?

The market is glutted with shape shifters books right now. I don’t follow the trends. When a story pops into my head, it becomes an obsession and it won’t leave me the hell alone until I write it.  Plus, I have fun with my characters.  Maybe, a little too much.

How do you find readers in today's market?

How do I stand out in the crowd? My cute and cuddly alien critters? My stories are sheer laugh out loud fun and even the scariest looking aliens become my heroine’s friends. People want and need to laugh. I provide that service. I also reach new readers on Facebook, blog spotlights and Twitter.

Do you come up with the hook first, or do you create characters first and then dig through until you find a hook?

Even though I hate squeezing 50,000 words into a one line hook, I don’t work on the blurb until I’ve finished the book. Then I eat a lot of chocolate and pray to the goddess of creativity for help.

How do you create your characters?

My story ideas come to me in my dreams. Weird creatures, hunky alien beings come to life in my mind and the fun begins. Wanna know a secret? Sex scenes are not my forte. I took a vow of celibacy when I was thirteen and pretty much suck at all the intimate details. You know? What goes where. Okay, you can stop laughing now. Geez. I may have exaggerated a tiny bit.

What's on the top of your TBR pile right now?

Turbo Twenty-Three by Janet Evanovich. Her stories are hilarious.

Tell me a little about the characters in Wulf and the Bounty Hunter.

Wulf’s a Coletti warlord, the ultimate predator. He found his true mate, Yakira, when she was just ten years old. Her adopted family whisked her away and he has searched for her for ten long years. When Wulf finally finds Yakira he’s ecstatic. He’s determined to keep her safe and happy. He tells her, "Know this. I will never betray, abandon or sell you. Your family is my family. I'm driven to protect you from any who mean you harm. You were meant to be mine. My heart is forever yours."

Yakira on the other hand is not impressed.  She was only three years old when she was captured by the Tai-Kok and taken aboard their ship. An ordeal she almost didn’t survive. Yakira was rescued by a Bjarke warrior who adopted her and fitted her with bionic limbs.

Yakira’s new family is not so law abiding.  Ziyad, her BFF, looks like a creature some mad scientist has dreamed up. She’s half Askole and half Rodan. She has the face of an T-Rex, tentacles and the black armor-plated skin of an Askole.

Yakira and Ziyad go into the bounty hunting business to raise money to get their family out of jail. Their quarry is Gulog the Mad. To Yakira’s horror Wulf is after the same bounty.

Yakira does feels safe and cherished with Wulf, but he is a Coletti warlord who needs to control everything in his life. The big question is; how does she make Wulf understand she’s a powerful psychic with kick-ass bionic limbs and quite capable of taking care of herself?

Where’s the story set? How much influence did the setting have on the atmosphere/characters/development of the story?

I like unique aliens and I wanted to start with Gulog the Mad in the Sharqi Pleasure Palace. It’s a male's wet dream. Species from every corner of the galaxy swarm the dimly lit, disgustingly gaudy interior. All with two thoughts on their feeble minds. Sex and booze.

Next is a visit to Igator prison to bail her family out.  Yakira uses a transporter to appear on the prison’s visitor’s platform. Or as Yakira likes to call it, the kill zone. She is surrounded by dozens of automated laser canons. If she failed the prison's body scan, she would be incinerated.  The book spends a lot of time on a Coletti warbird as they zoom around the galaxy in pursuit of the villain.

If you had to write your memoir in five words, what would you write?

Bat shit crazy.

How often does your muse distract you from day to day minutiae?

My house has dust bunnies and I don’t hit the gym as often as I should.

What do readers have to look forward to in the future from you?

My next Coletti Warlord book is Game on Askole. This book contains non-stop action, tongue in cheek dialogue, snarky heroines, hot alpha males and unique sidekicks. Warning! Warning! Hysterical laughter will occur while reading my books.

Blurb for Wulf and the Bounty Hunter:

Wulf knows Yakira is his soul mate. The only person he needs to convince is her, but with intergalactic terrorists on Yakira’s trail, there’s little time for romance. What’s a hot-blooded Coletti warlord to do?

Yakira feels safe and cherished with Wulf, but he is a Coletti; the ultimate predator with a taste for blood, a passion for battle and the need to control everything in his life. The big question is; how does she make Wulf understand she’s a powerful psychic with kick-ass bionic limbs and quite capable of taking care of herself?

Excerpt: Wulf nibbled a sensuous path down to my thong-style panties. He took a bite. The expression on Wulf’s face went from turned on to appalled. “Licorice! Colettis are severely allergic to lickric.”

“What?” To my utter horror, his lips ballooned up, his eyes swelled shut and hives covered his face and body. I quickly clamped my hands around his face and sent healing energy into him.

“Our special night was supposed to be sexy and romantic and perfect.” Tears rolled down my cheeks. “And I almost killed you.”

“Oot nek feck.” Wulf switched to mind talk. “It’s not your fault. I have many enemies.”

My temper flared to life. “We are going to hunt them down and leave them on Gansu for the snakes to eat.”

Wulf hugged me to him. “Goddess, I do love you. You are perfect in every way.”

“I am?”

He wiped away my tears. “You have a warrior’s heart. I know you will stand at my side no matter what comes.”

“You bet I will. We’re a team.” A sigh of relief broke from me. His face was still a little puffy, but the hives were entirely gone. I gave him another burst of energy. “You itch anywhere?”

Wulf put a finger to his mouth. “Here.”

The puffiness had vanished, but the playful gleam in his eyes told me he was ready for some bed sport. Drawing on his vast experience, I traced the seam of his lips with my tongue, then delved into his mouth; learning its shape and texture. “Anywhere else?”

Character Interview/Spotlight~ Meet Jev Brennan

Please give a warm welcome to Jev from Scrying for Summer by Katherine McIntyre today as we sit down and see what makes her tick.

Q: So tell us about yourself. What got you in the crosshairs for your author?
Apparently my brand of sass and danger fit the bill for leading lady in this book after I met Conor and Brenna in Hunting for Spring. What can I say? I’m easily bored.

Q: What was it that drew you to your mate?
Sure as hell wasn’t his moral aptitude. I hated Liam O’Reilly with the passion of a thousand dying stars at first. After all, traitors are the worst sort of bottom dwellers out there. But I guess he’s okay. If I had to admit it, the first time I didn’t want to punch him in the face was watching him around his mom. He tossed the stupid cockiness out the window, and I witnessed an entirely different guy, one with a sweetness and loyalty you’d have never guessed.

Q: A little naughty fun, where was the wildest place you seduced your partner(s)?
Well, I would’ve at the club if we hadn’t been hunting down pieces of a lamp and laying the smackdown on some asshole necromancers who were causing trouble. We’ve had a couple times when we didn’t make it all the way up to my apartment though and ended up going at it in the alleyway instead.

Q: Boxers, briefs or Commando on a man?
Boxer-briefs, hands down.

Q: If your partner wants to seduce you, what's one sure fire trick they can do to seduce you?
Does pissing me off count? I swear, half the time we’re yelling at each other one second and the next we’re making out. Not going to lie though, I love when he picks me up to slam me against the wall.

Q: What is the one place on your partner's body that you know will drive them wild-in and out of bed?
He likes when I bite his bottom lip—it’s a guaranteed way to get things started.

Q: What was one of the most embarrassing things your author did to you in Scrying for Summer?
Hooked me up with that asshole. Thaaaaanks, bunches. In all honesty, I don’t really get embarrassed by much. I might do dumb shit sometimes, run my mouth, and I know I’ve made mistakes, but none of that bothers me in the end. After all, why waste time dwelling when there are Unseelie assholes lurking around every corner, ready to play? Figure fighting to keep my city safe is a much better use of my energy.

Q: Anything else you would like to add?
Yeah, a note to Sienna. The cheesesteak in the break room fridge is MINE. Has my name on it and everything. Take it at your peril, because after spending the whole morning sorting through tomes, I’m a mite bit hangry.

Jev was looking for an adventure, however she wanted the usual variety of stomping out nasty fae in the city as an enforcer of the Philly Coven. Instead, handsome as sin Liam O'Reilly shows up on her doorstep dropping news of the worst organization of fae they'd dealt with on the rise again. Except, he's a traitor, an asshole, and the absolute last person she wants to work with.

However, the longer they work together, the more the fire between them burns, turning from rage and irritation into something primal. And as she gets to know the real Liam O'Reilly behind the charming smiles and sexy lines, he becomes so much deadlier. Because the protective, self-sacrificing man underneath his facade is just the sort she could fall for.

Excerpt:

Liam stepped away from her desk and crossed his arms as he waited for Jev to respond, the silence setting his nerves aflame. The entire Coven building gave him the jitters—too much magic brewing in this place, and as he strode through he’d garnered more than a couple nasty gazes. Not like he hadn’t earned them. Anyone who knew his past discretions already juried him as a screwup. He couldn’t help but notice the steel in her gaze as the girl with the brilliant mind weighed her options. Since he’d last seen her, she’d changed her hair to a lush cerulean that even in the yellowed light of the library shone like a jewel.
Jev hissed out a breath, and her fingertips curled around the edge of the large book she clutched. Her full lips pursed as she met his gaze, a resigned and more than a little irritated look in her own.
“Fine, consider me baited.” She glared at him before using the desk to push herself up. “Spill.”
Liam shook his head, casting a glance around the spacious room. Jev had earned his trust through the blood of battle even if she hated his guts. However, the entire Coven of witches didn’t need to overhear the information he had to discuss. “Not here.”
Her brow quirked up. “Yeah, because I’m going to just follow you to a dark alley where you can kidnap and murder me?”
The comment hit him like a blow to the gut, but he didn’t let it show. After all, he’d had years of experience playing a part, and the cruel and unaffected act had become a specialty. “Pick a public place, and we’ll go.” Even here in the library, where the books far outnumbered the witches present, the press of gazes made him uneasy. He spent years with no allies, watching his every move and every phrase until paranoia had sunk into his veins.
“Diner up the street. The owner’s a friend of mine, so if you decide to pull any hinky shit, not only will I kick your ass, but he will too.” She bent down to loop her messenger bag around her shoulder before tapping a finger on the desk. “No time like the present.”
Liam blinked in surprise at her quick-as-a-breeze pace, but rather than commenting, he jammed his hands into his pockets and gave her a nod. As they strode up the steps of the library, their footsteps echoing throughout the cavernous place, he cast a glance her way. “You know, if I was planning on ‘pulling hinky shit,’ I’d hope I was intelligent enough to nab you outside your home or something rather than escorting you out of your workplace with hundreds of dangerous witnesses.”
Jev let out a snort. “The jury’s still out on your level of intellect. After all, you signed up with Evil Incorporated in the first place.”

Author Bio:
A modern day Renaissance-woman, Katherine McIntyre has learned soapmaking, beer brewing, tea blending, and most recently roasting coffee. Most of which make sure she’s hydrated and bathed while she spends the rest of her time writing. With a desire to travel and more imagination than she knows what to do with, all the stories jumping around in her head led to the logical route of jotting them down on paper. She writes novels with snarky women, ragtag crews, and guys with bad attitudes. High chances for a passionate speech thrown into the mix.
