Welcome Xavier Axelson today

Today I have the wonderful pleasure of having Xavier Axelson joining me today. A wonderful author, a great guy and he loves food. :-) So as we munch on Irish Cream Brownies and a latte or coffee....join us as I grill this one of a kind author.

For the readers out there who might not know about you or your work, can you please tell them a little about yourself.

I’m Xavier and am a bad influence.  Does that sum it up?  I’ve worked in the adult industries in various forms for over 15 years.  I grew up on the East Coast and when asked what I wanted to do after college I replied, “I want to be a publicist for porn stars!”  My writing is a little edgy and not for the faint of heart.

How long have you been writing? What got you in to writing?
I’ve been writing since I was a kid.  The earliest memory of how I started writing was in 4th grade the class know-it-all wrote a 10 page story so I took the 4 pages I wrote home and showed up to school with 15 pages the next day.

Where do you get your ideas for your stories, characters?
I get ideas from everywhere and I mean everywhere.  My next release “The Birches” was inspired by a print on a vintage set of dishes.

Are you a by-the-seat-of-your-pants kind of writer, or do you have to use an outline to put your collective thoughts into some semblance of common sense?
Completely by-the-seat-of-your-pants, I never know what is going to happen next.  I wish I were an outline kind of person.

Tell us all about your latest or upcoming release. What inspired it?
“The Incident” is my latest release and I was inspired by a publisher who turned down my previous release “Dutch’s Boy” for publication, they were doing a call for a men in uniform collection so I decided after my venture into cowboys I would take their lead and write a Men-In-Uniform thing.  From there I was inspired by my brother who is a cop, he was involved in a pretty horrific event while I was writing this and I realized how the men and women who serve as police make split-second decisions that change lives everyday.  Not only the lives of the people they serve, but their own lives.  I talked a lot to him about what he goes through as a cop.  I hope I got it right.

If you had super powers, what would they be? Why?
I’d like to control plants.  I’m a closet Botanist and have a deep love of growing things.  I’m particularly fond of carnivorous plants.

What genre haven’t you tried yet but want to in the future?
I honestly always thought I’d write kids books.  I love children’s literature and took a course while I was in High School at The Institute of Children’s Literature and loved it.  Erotica wasn’t my first thought when I started writing.  So, I think I have a kids book in me.

What is one thing readers might be surprised to know about you?
That the only erotica I have read are The Sleeping Beauty books by Anne Rice and some Marquis De Sade.

If we asked your muse to describe you in three words, what do you think they might say?
Dreamy.  Hopeful.  Distracted.

What authors can be found in your library of books?
Miss Read, Richard Adams, Peter Beagle, Thomas Thompson, BROM, D.H. Lawrence, Faulkner, Tennessee Williams, James M. Cain, Joyce Carol Oates and on and on and on…

Have any guilty pleasures you want to share with us?
My life is a guilty pleasure.  We’d be here all day.

Is there anything you’re currently working on that you can give us a taste of?
I just finished my 7th novella titled “Earthly Concerns” that is one of the scarier things I have written.  Erotic Horror would be the best way to describe it.
Here’s a very unedited sneak peek:

“Barrett,” I said his name in an attempt to make the situation real in my head.  I was unsure of what to say, I was still shocked it was him.
“Don’t tell me to call the police.  Don’t fucking say it.”
This time I recognized that what I heard wasn’t pain at all, it was terrified exhaustion.
“Well,” I said, pausing to think, “What do you mean missing?”
“I didn’t say missing, I said gone.  She’s gone.  Goddammit, she’s gone.”
I heard him sob and the sound sent a chill down my spine.  I didn’t know he was capable of such emotion.  His usually aloof demeanor was gone and it was unnerving.
“Will you help me?”  He asked when he regained himself, his voice guttural.

When creating your characters, do you have models in mind or are they totally fictional? (You can attach a picture of one of your character inspirations if you like)
Completely fictional.  I never know what they look like until I’m writing.  All of a sudden I’ll write they have blue eyes and I never even knew that was going to be a physical trait of that character.

If you could be an immortal, what would you want to be? Why?
I always imagine myself as a tropical bird on some island where there are no people.  So I’ll stick with that.  I like the idea of being able to take off and fly.
What is the hardest/the easiest part of writing for you?

The hardest part is writing about my writing.  The synopsis the blurbs and all that comes once the story is done, I hate it.  The easiest is starting something new.  I love hearing new stories.

Are you in control of your characters or do they control you?
They control me.  They know what they are doing.  Thank God, because I don’t.  Ever.

Please tell us where we can find you on the web.

 Sneak Peek into The Incident

Officer Michael Carmac is a small town cop whose life is turned upside down by a horrific incident that neither he, nor the community he serves can forget.  While Michael’s long-time friend and partner officer Bertram Angel offers support and friendly companionship during Carmac’s ordeal, Michael soon finds his feelings for Angel turning from friendship to something more.  As Michael’s thoughts of guilt and personal responsibility over the incident intensify so do his emotions for Angel and the realization that love may be the only way to heal his wounded heart.

Excerpt:
Michael leaned towards Angel, the cold pie plate the only thing between them. Michael's heart was pounding and he could feel Angel’s breath soft on his face.

“No, it’s like right by your mouth, on the right,” Michael said.

Somewhere a night bird called out and the only reply was the incessant symphony coming from the bugs in the trees, but Michael didn’t hear anything except his own tormented thoughts clashing against his physical desires. Sweat had begun to run down his back and he shivered as he felt his spine twitch with excitement.

“Did I get it?” Angel asked, making another swipe at his face.

Michael leaned in, his hands shaking, the pie plate feeling slippery in his other hand. “Here,” he said as he pressed a shaking finger against Angel’s cheek. “Right here,” the last word was more a pant as he wiped the offending chocolate from Angel’s face.

Michael thought he saw something in Angel’s eyes when he touched him but he wasn’t sure. Although he wanted Angel more than words, he was terrified that what he thought he saw wasn’t real.

“Mikey,” Angel breathed, coming closer.  He put a hand on Michael’s arm and pulled him close. “Do it, whatever you’re thinking, do it.”

“I can’t,” Michael whispered.

Angel leaned so close that their lips were just about touching. “I’ll make it easy on you.” Angel ran his tongue over Michael’s lips. “Just do it.”

Michael felt the world beginning to slide sideways, and somewhere he heard the sound of something breaking.

Was this real?

His mind screamed for him to stop, to pull away, but Angel’s smell, his breath so close was making it hard to move, to breathe, to think. Before he could answer his raging thoughts, he found himself kissing Angel.

Sounds like a great read! Nice to get to know you better Xavier. I, too, never know exactly where characters will take a story, so don't worry about being a plotter!
Great interview!
