Welcome to my Reading Nook, J.S.
Marlo. Please make yourself at home and let my cabana
boys/girls get you a drink.
Comfortable? Wonderful. Now let’s get started.
What is your writing process? Do you outline, fly by the seat of
your pants or a combination of both?
It's a combination of both. When I begin a book, I
have a general outline in my head. I know where i'm going with the main thread,
but I don't plan the secondary threads, they develop as I write.
What did you do before you were a writer? Do you write full
time?
I earned a business degree, moved every three years,
and raised three wonderful kids. For years, writing was more an escape than
anything else. Then I started writing full time, and I began thinking I might
just reach that crazy dream of becoming a published writer. And I did.
If you were going to cast the characters of your book, what actors
would get the part?
When I write a character, I give him/her personal
attributes, but as a rule I don't picture someone in particular. The only
exception would be in "Unscripted-Duty Bound Book One". My main
character, Blythe Huxley, is a middle-aged Canadian actor. If I had to cast
anyone to play his role, it would be Ted Atherton who's also a Canadian actor.
Since I don't have a picture in mind, I'm always
eager to see my book covers, and I have to say my cover artist has been amazing
at bringing my characters to life.
I know you're not supposed to show favoritism but who's been your
favorite character to write?
Oh my… I can't pick one. I truly love all of them,
even my baddies.
Do you have a favorite TV show you can't miss?
A long time ago, it was Scarecrow and Mrs. King.
Now, it's Murdoch Mysteries.
If you could date any character from any book, which would it be
and why-no it doesn't have to be from your books?
A long time ago, I met my special man. There's not a
character in or out of uniform that could match him.
Please share with us some juicy details about your latest
release.
"Salvaged" is the story of a young female
scuba diver who investigates underwater wrecks for a living. Her life changes
when she's hired by a handsome captain to explore a Model T sunk in the middle
of a lake.
There are lots of water scenes in Salvaged: lake,
bath, shower...
What was your inspiration behind this book?
My daughter is a scuba diver. When she's not doing
research, she likes to explore shipwrecks. Her many underwater tales unleashed
my imagination and inspired me to write Salvaged. Little did she know I would
call her at weird times to inquire about lake depth, oxygen intake, or belt
weight. One day, she unpacked her diving gear on her living room floor, told me
to put the vest on, and proceeded to explain how every piece of equipment
worked. To thank her for her technical assistance, I gave her a cameo
appearance in the book.
Do you listen to music while you write? If so what are your
favorites Artists and or albums?
There's always music in the background. I listen
mostly to soft rock and country music, in English or in French. My all-time favourite group is ABBA.
If you could go any place in the world and to any time period,
what place time would you choose to visit?
An Ice Hotel in Scandinavia.
What is your favorite super power and why do you want it?
I'd like to be able to see in the dark. Over the
years, it would have stopped me from bumping my toes and breaking a few of
them.
If you could write a warning label for yourself as a person or an
author, what would it say?
As an author: Daydreaming in progress, do not
disturb my creative process.
As a person: I do everything, I'm a mom.
Do you have any guilty pleasures?
Dark chocolate...and more dark chocolate.
Thanks for taking the time to be here today. I wish
you many sales and wonderful reviews.
Thanks for having me, Dawn. It was lots of fun.

Salvaged-excerpt:
Hauk left the cabin and stepped onto the twelve-foot
deck. According to his watch, Arnie and Fisher had been down less than ten
minutes.
The oxygen tanks lined up against the storage bin
beckoned to him. He grabbed the closest one and peered at the gauge. 1,700
pounds. Enough air for a short dive. Wanting to witness what had prompted
Fisher's request, he geared up and dove.
The wetsuit didn't completely insulate his skin from
the colder water he encountered fifty feet below. With darkness surrounding
him, he trusted the guide rope to lead him to the site as he continued his
descent. Minutes later, through the shadowy waters, Hauk spotted his two
divers. Arnie floated above a lamppost, and Fisher knelt on the lakebed in
front of the wreck.
An object was in Fisher's hand. He swam toward her
to get a better view, but the mysterious object disappeared into her bag, and
she glided away from him before he had a chance to satisfy his curiosity. A few
flutter kicks behind her, Hauk stretched out his arm with the intent of tapping
her shoulder. Her hand swiftly swept across her belt, and a glint of light from
the lampposts reflected off her glove.
She spun around. Eyes glazed with fear, she swung
her arm. Sharp reflexes allowed Hauk to deflect the blow, but they didn't
prevent her other hand from sneaking past his defenses. He inhaled sharply.
A silver blade, shining in the light, pushed against
his hose, ready to sever his air supply with the flick of her wrist.
