Discover author JP Bowie's new book~ The Vampire and the G.I.

Any readers who might follow my work know I have a thing for vampires. I’ve actually written 14 vampire stories and am working on the 15th right now. The original story My Vampire and I started out as a short story in a collection of shorts, but the characters suddenly had a lot more to say than I had planned. Funny how that happens. It was as if Marcus Verano, Master Vampire was telling me that his story certainly did not belong in a collection, but deserved its own stand alone novel – and I’m not silly enough to argue with a vampire!

So the short story became a novel and the novel a series and I guess I was hooked from then on. Which brings me to my latest release. Last year I wrote a novel titled The Vampire and the P.I. for Wilde City Press and it did very well. I hadn’t intended on a sequel but the idea just popped into my head one day and became The Vampire and the G.I which has already received some nice reviews and was recently an All Romance best seller.

Here’s the blurb:
The Middle East War is finally over and veteran, Cole Everett, is trying to build a new life in Los Angeles and reconnect with his cousin, Sean Martin, a private investigator. His hopes stall when he learns that Sean’s mate, Arturo, is a vampire.
It might be 2034 and vampires are an accepted part of society, but Cole can’t accept that anyone would willingly mate with the undead. That is, until he meets Arturo and is introduced to the handsome Rafael Barrantes. Attracted to Rafael, Cole has to rethink everything he thought he knew about vampires.
After he takes a job as a security guard for a high-tech company, Cole becomes suspicious when all is not what it seems with so-called ‘government’ contracts. He can’t decide if he should play it safe and call the cops, or take a chance on his newfound vampire friends.

Safe and secure, or caution to the wind? Find out in The Vampire and the G.I.

Excerpt:
Cole reluctantly agrees to go to a party hosted by Vampire Lord Rafael Barrantes at his mansion in the Hollywood Hills…
His thoughts were interrupted when from his peripheral vision he saw a tall figure walk quickly over to them. “Arturo, Sean—so glad you could come!” The deep, melodious voice belonged to the most stunning man Cole had ever seen in his life, ever. He watched, his mouth slightly open as the man embraced first Arturo, then Sean, then turned to face him.
God Almighty. It was as if everyone and everything in the room had simply disappeared, leaving this man as Cole’s single focus. Handsome didn’t even come close to describing him. Tall with wide shoulders, his smooth-skinned, chiseled face was crowned by thick black-as-night hair, and his eyes, which seemed to mesmerize Cole, were a piercing amber under finely shaped brows. Cole thought he could examine this face in detail forever and find nothing wrong. Heat invaded his body, and that part of him he had thought no longer could be aroused by any man was proving him to be very wrong.
“You must be Cole, Sean’s cousin,” the incredible-looking man said. “I am Rafael Barrantes, and I am very pleased to make your acquaintance.”

Holy… even his voice is beautiful, and I’m about to ruin the moment by stammering like a demented troll.
Amazingly, he didn’t. His voice sounded smooth and even to his ears as he held out his hand. “ Very pleased to meet you, sir.”
“Please, no formalities. I am Rafael.” He enclosed Cole’s hand in his, and Cole gasped. The grip was firm yet not overdone—Cole was sure Rafael had no need to prove his obvious strength—and the feel of his skin was pleasantly cool… and sensual. “Arturo tells me you are ex-military. You fought in the Middle East War.”
“That’s right.”
“Then you have seen things no man ever should, I fear.”
Those amber eyes framed by long, thick lashes were steadily looking into Cole’s. He dropped his gaze to Rafael’s mouth and was almost overcome with the need to kiss the vampire’s lush lower lip. He felt his face grow hot with embarrassment, remembering what Sean had said about a vampire’s ability to read minds, but Rafael simply smiled and raised his glass in salute.
“But we will not talk of that tonight. I drink to you, Cole, and to your bravery in the service of your country.” He took a sip of his wine, and again Cole’s eyes were focused on Rafael’s lips. He pulled himself together long enough to raise his glass also and murmur his thanks before drinking the chilled champagne.
Rafael turned to where Sean and Arturo were watching with surprisingly smug expressions on their faces; expressions that quickly morphed into bland masks when Rafael put his hand on Cole’s shoulder.
“There are other drinks if you prefer. Scotch, beer, vodka, and there is a buffet of things you might like in the dining room. Again, it was a pleasure to meet you, Cole.”
“And you, si… uh, Rafael.” Shit, he didn’t want the man to leave so soon. Of course, he had dozens of other guests to mingle with, but… “Uh, maybe we can talk again later ?”
“I would like that very much.” He smiled and gave Cole a slight bow, an affirmation perhaps of his pleasure at the thought of seeing and talking to Cole again.
Or am I hallucinating?

Welcome author Hank Edwards today

Big thanks to Dawn Roberto for hosting me on her blog today. I'm going to take the opportunity to introduce you all to a new "on its way to gay romance" humorous paranormal series I'm working on: Critter Catchers. I describe it in such a way because the two main characters are Cody Bower and Demetrius Singleton, two twenty-eight year olds who have been best friends since kindergarten. They grew up and still live in Parson's Hollow, a small town in western Pennsylvania. Cody is tall, handsome, athletic, and straight, a serial dater of girls all through school and now women in and around Parson's Hollow. Demetrius is just under six feet tall, not quite as handsome as Cody, more bookish than athletic, and gay. He's looking for a monogamous relationship and is still finding his way after the break-up of his longest lasting relationship of two years. They decide to open an animal control business together and are now spending pretty much all of their time together. When their first case ends in a horrendous crime scene, the two work to clear their names and track down the killer, dodging the long list of Cody's ex-girlfriends along the way. They also begin to develop deeper and stronger feelings for each other, but are unsure what it means and how to address it. As in real life, it's not going to happen fast, but it will happen, I promise! Check out the excerpt below from the first book in the series, "Terror By Moonlight: Critter Catchers Book One." Happy Holidays and here's to an amazing year in 2016!

Terror By Moonlight: Critter Catchers Book One
Contemporary Paranormal humorous "might be gay for you" romance
Wilde City Press
Cody Bower and Demetrius Singleton have been friends for over twenty years even though they are polar opposites. Cody is tall, handsome, athletic, and straight, and Demetrius is average height, more of a thinker, and gay. They have started an animal control business together and have to figure out how to be business partners without letting it affect their friendship, but that’s the least of their problems. When one of their first clients ends up brutally murdered in what appears to be an animal attack, the two realize something big and dangerous is stalking their tiny town of Parson’s Hollow, and it’s up to them to catch it before it kills again.

Excerpt:
“Thank you for calling Critter Catchers. We’re, uh, not in our right fucking minds at the moment and may call you back if we feel like it.” Cody mashed the disconnect button and tipped his head back to shout “FUCK!” at the ceiling.
Demetrius shook his head as he sifted through papers on his desk. “I don’t really think that message will encourage anyone to leave us their number to bring in business so we can pay off a few of these bills. You might want to rethink your strategy.”
Cody looked over, widened his dark brown eyes, and slipped that gorgeous, half-cocky, half-helpless grin into place. “Come on, Demmy, just do this one thing for me, okay? You know I’m not good at stuff like this.”
The grin usually worked. Demetrius was a sucker for Cody’s grin, had been all the years they’d been friends, but not this time. He had to stand firm, had to get Cody to see that being part owner of a business meant having to do the crappy stuff like phone messages and paperwork and ironing their uniform shirts, and not just the fun field work stuff.
“Nope, not gonna do it.” Demetrius shook his head. “Consider it a growing experience for you.”
Cody narrowed his eyes before slamming the phone down again. “Fine. I need a moment to collect myself.”
“Fine.” Demetrius watched him get up and pace the length of their narrow office. Thirty steps to the back of the office, thirty steps to the front, and fifteen feet from side wall to side wall. The office was barely tall enough for Cody’s six foot five frame, seemed barely wide enough to accommodate his broad shoulders, and was definitely too small to contain his personality.
“I hope you find your inner phone message muse before someone calls us,” Demetrius said.
“You know, you’re being kind of a bitch right now,” Cody practically whimpered as he paced by Demetrius’s desk. “I mean, we’ve been friends for twenty-one—”
“Twenty-three,” Demetrius corrected automatically as he continued to shuffle through the mail.
“—years now, and you should know the things I have trouble with and the things that are my… well, my strengths.” Cody came to a stop right beside Demetrius’s desk, his big hands hanging straight down, and a tortured look on a face seven times too handsome for the tiny town of Parson’s Hollow.
Demetrius sighed, folded his hands on the stack of unpaid bills, and focused on Cody’s dark brown eyes. “Cody Bower.”
A slight grin turned up one corner of Cody’s mouth. “Demetrius Singleton.”
“We have been friends for twenty-three years.”
“Twenty-three?” Cody frowned.
“Twenty-three. And during these twenty-three years of friendship, I have come to understand your inner workings, and, shall we say, the way you operate.”
Cody smirked his seductive smirk and perched one fine, firm ass cheek on the corner of Demetrius’s desk. “When you say it that way, it sounds really romantic.”
Demetrius sighed and dropped his gaze to the desk, shaking his head. “It would, Cody, if not for the fact that you are unabashedly, undeniably, certifiably straight and I… Well, I am not.”
“Fine.” Cody pushed off from Demetrius’s desk and sat in his chair, lowered almost to the floor as he liked it. He tipped back and put his big boots up on his desk. “You know how a lot of things people do are fun and enjoyable and stay with them the rest of their lives?”
“Yes.”
“This is not one of those things.”
“Just pull on your big-boy pants and do your part for our company.”

Book Spotlight & Giveaway for Unbreak Broken

Don't forget to enter the giveaway to win an e-copy of Unbreak Broken from the author. If you entered during the cover reveal on Sept. 1st then you don't have to enter the giveaway again. Contest closes Oct. 13th.

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing J.K. Hogan, author of Unbreak Broken.

Hi J.K, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.

Hey, there! IRL I’m a pretty normal gal, wife and mother and fur-mommy. I stay at home with my son and alternate between writing and graphic design. I’m also currently carrying my second son.
I started out writing m/f paranormal romance—I have a series of three books if anyone is so inclined—but I started writing exclusively m/m in the last couple of years. I just have more fun doing it.
My new release, Unbreak Broken, is (probably) the conclusion to my Coming About series. It features Rory, everybody’s favorite cuddly straight guy, who ends up being not-so-straight, but not without a lot of heartache and…well, therapy. He gets paired with a sexy cop with a teenage daughter, and much drama ensues. Hope you enjoy!

What book do you wish you could have written?
Oh, man, that’s a tough one. I think despite all the scandal surrounding Watchman, I think I would have to say To Kill a Mockingbird. This book was written in a different time, so it’s hard for a lot of people to get into it now, but I remember loving it even reading it as a teenager. Now when I read about Harper Lee’s story, I’m awed by what a breakout success it was when no one really expected it to be.

How important are names to you (in your books)? Do you choose names based on liking the way it sounds or meaning? How do you choose your names?
Names are super important. Sometimes they just pop into my head, or sometimes I’ll put in a placeholder name for a character, and by the time he ends up being important, the name has stuck. I don’t particularly like really romance-novel-y names like Fabio or whatever (sorry, dude, that’s the only one I could think of!), but I am a stickler for unique names when I can use them. Even in my own life—my son’s name is Rowan, which is pretty uncommon, especially for a boy. His brother will have an equally unique name but we’re not telling yet!

Were you already a great writer? Have you always enjoyed writing? How long have you been writing?
I don’t know if I could call myself “great” even now, because everything is subjective. All I can say is that I’m really proud of my work. Yes, I’ve always enjoyed writing, but probably more the making up stories part than the actual pen-to-paper part. I’ve been making up stories most of my life, but didn’t start writing seriously until about 12 years ago.

Which character, from any of your books, do you consider your greatest work?
Wow, talk about Sophie’s Choice. I would say it’s a toss-up between Titus from Shadows Fall, or the character I’m writing in my current WIP, Jonah. Titus was such a colorful character, so I was really proud of him. Jonah is the son of a very evil man, and he has multiple mental illnesses, so if I can pull him off in the end, it will definitely be an accomplishment.

What hobbies do you enjoy?
Hobbies are few and far between, being a work-at-home mom of a toddler and also pregnant… I don’t really have any free time. My husband and I enjoy dog agility, though I don’t compete anymore since I have the kids, but I still go cheer our dogs on. I enjoy digital art including graphic design and manga, I like to crochet, and I love opera. I’m excited to be going to my second live opera next month, Fideglio, Beethoven’s only opera.

Excerpt:
Dr. Conlan treated me to a rare fond smile, almost motherly in its warmth. “I’m pleased to see you happier than you have been.”
I grinned back, but then my brow furrowed. “Does this make me gay?”
“Does that matter?”
“I don’t know. Should it?”
“I’ll never understand the fascination with labeling things that our society seems to have. To me, sexuality is as intangible as the universe. There’s no way to truly know what’s out there, and how it all relates to everything else.
“As humans, we seek to know, to understand, and somehow we feel that putting things in boxes and labeling helps us do that. But some things are fluid, changing and developing with the tide of the evolution of life. Do me a favor, Rory. Don’t put yourself in a box.”
I was dumbfounded, stunned speechless. I knew I’d remember Dr. Conlan’s words for the rest of my life, and I would try to stay as true to them as I could. “I won’t,” I whispered.

Talking with Poppy Dennison today

Today I had the pleasure of sitting down and talking with author Poppy Dennison about her latest book and more. Take a look at what I just had to ask her. :-)

Where do you find the inspirations for your stories?

Every book has its own source of inspiration. The Triad series evolved both a conversation I had with a friend. He wanted a gay paranormal romance where one of the main characters had a child. I was so intrigued by the idea. I’d never read about a paranormal kid before! The story developed quickly and really centered on my love for my family.

The Pack Partners series came from real life—my then 1 year old nephew bit my sister *really hard* and it was a big kerfuffle!  Once I stopped laughing at them both, I began to wonder what would happen if a paranormal kid bit a human. Could a toddler turn a human into a werewolf? I couldn’t get the idea out of my head and it turned into Accidental Alpha.

What is coming up from you in 2014? Anything you want to tease us with?

I’m a busy bee this year. Belligerent Beta, the sequel to Accidental Alpha is out now. In August, the first book in a new series called Coconut Cove comes out. It’s a collaboration between myself and M.J. O’Shea, and is my first contemporary! Later in the fall, Creature Feature 2 will be released. That one is co-written with Rhys Ford! Then it’s back to the Pack Partners world for the next book in that series!

If you had a reporter follow you around for the day, what would the readers get to see in your
daily schedule?

Well, I think a reporter would shake his head at my weird routine! LOL. First thing I do is stumble to the coffee pot then it’s a quick email check while my brain begins to function. I try to get most of my writing done in the morning hours and then I edit and do other work in the afternoons. Since I work from home, and find that I tend to be a bit on the messy side, I do what I call “cleaning Zambonis” every hour. I get up for 10 minutes and clean up my mess! LOL. It helps me keep up with the housework and keeps me from sitting on my bum all day.  I’m really pretty boring to be honest.

When you begin your stories, do you go with the flow, or go with an outline?

You know, I don’t think I’ve done the same thing twice. Some stories really demand that I start writing the chapters first and then go back and do a little planning. Others, I have to sit down and really plan the world out before I begin to write. Usually, it’s some combination of the two. I keep little notebooks handy for each world to keep everything straight. I don’t think I’ve ever gone with the flow for an entire book. I do tend to do better with at least a *little* planning.

Is it hard coming up with titles or characters names?

Yes! Character names are a real challenge for me. I have to keep a spreadsheet of names I’ve already used. The hardest part for me is naming the secondary characters. Sometimes the name changes for them half way through the story once I get to know them better. In Creature Feature 2, the book I recently finished, I ended up changing the names of three of the secondary characters at the end! Names are so important. I thought for a while I was weird about naming them, but after speaking with a few other authors, I think a lot of us put a lot of importance on the names. At least it’s not just me who obsesses! LOL

Has there been any character that started off as supporting character, but then developed into a
more prominent character?

Um, all of them? LOL. I love creating a full world for my characters, including all the family and friends who help make them the person they are. Accidental Alpha was supposed to be a stand-alone story, but once I began creating the pack, I realized I had a series on my hands! Readers seemed to respond to Nathan, the omega character in the book as much as I did when writing him. His story wouldn’t leave me alone! I had to figure out what happened to Nathan to make him the omega.  I rarely write a story without having a handful of fully developed secondary characters.  This is a hazard because then readers want more stories…and I want to write them!

What is the best trick to overcome writer's block?

I have two tricks that seem to work best for me. The first is to always stop writing before I’ve written myself out. What I mean by that is to know at least the next scene for the next day. It helps me dive right back into the world the next morning, and the story flows better when I can get on a roll.

The other trick I use when I’m really stuck is to write something that isn’t part of the manuscript, but is still part of the world. Usually this is some scene from the character’s past. In the case of Nathan in Belligerent Beta, I went back and wrote some scenes of him growing up. Even though those scenes aren’t in the final manuscript, I knew Nathan’s thoughts and feelings. It helped make his character more fully developed-- and broke my heart for him at the same time!

What is the next book you'll write?

Right now, I’m working on the first Coconut Cove book. It’s called “Life’s A Beach”. I’m also knee deep in world building for a new paranormal series I’ll start writing once Coconut Cove and the Pack Partners series are complete! I don’t generally write more than one book at a time; I’m not that great of a multi-tasker. But I do like having the next world ready to go when I send one off to a publisher!

Tour Stop for Devon McCormack's Clipped

Clipped by Devon McCormack

Cover Artist: Adrian Nicholas
Publisher: Wilde City Press
Available at Publisher

Though mortals have been convinced that God cares about their souls, nothing could be further from the truth. He created the world as a gift for his lover, Satan. But when Satan left him, he decided to end what he saw as his most grotesque creation.
Satan and his army of demons are man's only hope...

The demon Kinzer and his lover, Janka, have been sent by Satan to spy on The Raze, a gang of rogue demons who are working with God to bring about Armageddon. When someone exposes their true allegiances, The Raze clips Kinzer's wings and murders Janka. Kinzer manages to escape. He tracks down Satan's allies to warn them about a mole in their midst when he learns that they've located the Antichrist—a powerful weapon that could prevent the apocalypse. Now, he's on a mission to protect the Antichrist and avenge his lover’s death.

Teaser:

Dedrus scanned Kinzer’s body, admiring his massive biceps, his brown eyes, and his black waves of hair. Even with the wounds and tears that still tainted his face, he was beautiful. Dedrus wanted to press him back against the cushion, rip off his clothes, and provide him with the ease he deserved. But no! He was just wanting it for himself, and he was pretending that it was to serve Kinzer’s pain.
“I loved him so much.” The words cracked through Kinzer’s lips. His cheeks and forehead shivered. Tears filled his eyes. “I know we had so much time, but it wasn’t enough.”
The sting in Dedrus’s chest intensified. His cheeks flashed red as anger washed over him—anger that he loathed because it made him feel like a terrible, selfish creature.
He set his hand on Kinzer’s back, his palm stroking softly across the blue fabric of his polo. He wanted to say, “You’ll find love again.” He couldn’t, because he knew he’d really be saying, “Please find love in me.” He thought of saying, “Everything will be alright.” No. He couldn’t make that kind of promise. “It’ll take time,” felt appropriate, and yet, as an immortal, Dedrus never perceived time as a generous gift as much as a twisted, agonizing punishment.
“I wish I could think of something right to say about this,” Dedrus said, “but I can’t. I know how much you loved him, and I know how much he loved you, and I can’t imagine how hard this is going to be for you. But I’m here. As your friend. I don’t know if that means much, but I know the feeling of having something so perfect and wonderful torn from you.”
Kinzer’s gaze met his. His eyes were sad.
Does he know what I’m talking about?
“Tell me you’ve found someone,” Kinzer said.
“Of course,” he lied. “I’m just being overdramatic.”
“I figured as much. Considering where you work, I'm sure you get a lot of offers.”
It was true, but not the way Kinzer was suggesting. There were nights when Treycore dragged some pathetic mortal back to ease Dedrus’s pain. Those nights were the loneliest. Though he could bring himself to climax, it was an empty relief that just stirred the cruel memories of those moments filled with so much more.
Dedrus hugged him again. “Let’s get to bed,” he said. “You need some sleep.”
Kinzer nodded.
“We have plenty to sort through tomorrow. You can have my room. I’ll just sleep here.”
Dedrus released him.
Kinzer picked the sword up off his lap and stood. He reached his hand out. “Come on. It won’t be the first time we’ve shared a bed.”
The upward curl of his lip let Dedrus know that Kinzer was more than interested.
Dedrus’s dick swelled. “I don’t think I can.” He wanted Kinzer so bad, and if he put himself in that position, he was sure that he wouldn’t be able to resist making a move—especially if Kinzer initiated something.
“I'd rather not disrespect you like that,” Dedrus said.
Kinzer’s hand fell, bouncing against his jeans. His head drooped.
“Then I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Dedrus smiled. “‘Night, Kinzer.”
Kinzer knelt, offering a light peck on Dedrus’s lips.
Don’t tease me with a taste!
“Up the stairs, first room on the right.”
Kinzer walked up the stairs, headed down the hall, and slipped into Dedrus’s bedroom.
Dedrus had hoped that Kinzer’s exit would provide some relief.
It didn't.
He ached for him. His thoughts dwelled on Kinzer’s lips tickling his nipples, his gaze appreciating his body, his tongue delighting in his body’s grooves. He wanted to run upstairs and throw his arms around him, to hold him for the night, and tell him that no matter what happened he’d be there for him. He wanted more than that, but he wouldn’t press his friend. He wouldn’t dare cross that line…even if Kinzer insisted.
Spreading his limbs across the couch, he rested his head on a lace pillow at the end and rolled so that he was facing the cushions.
He closed his eyes.
A few moments passed before something pressed against his ass.
He flipped over and hopped to his feet, ready for a fight.
Kinzer stood before him, holding his hands out, as if showing a cop that he was unarmed. “Whoa, cowboy. Chill the fuck out.”
“Sorry.” Every hair on Dedrus’s immortal body stood on end. “You freaked the shit out of me. Did you need something? Another cover? Pillows?”
Kinzer wiggled his thumb behind the waistband in Dedrus’s khakis.
“Yeah. I need something.” He pulled their pelvises together.
His hot breath rushed across Dedrus’s lips, settling in the bristles across his cheeks. The warmth combined with a rush of blood that surged to his face and made him feel like his cheeks were about to catch on fire.
Kinzer pressed his lips against Dedrus’s.
Amidst the creases in Kinzer’s lips, Dedrus felt the smooth, subtle dip where Kinzer’s cut was healing.
He trailed his palm over the rough fabric of Kinzer’s polo. As he reached the smooth flesh of his neck, curly black hairs pricked his fingertips.
Kinzer opened his mouth wide. Dedrus eagerly reciprocated, tilting his head and allowing their lips to seal together. A swirling sensation gathered at the back of his spine and rushed to the crown of his skull.
Guilt nagged at his thoughts. He couldn’t do this. Kinzer didn’t really want him. He was just vulnerable and ached for a physical distraction from his grief. It would be wrong to take advantage while he was still recovering from Janka’s death.
Kinzer’s tongue flicked his.
He wanted Kinzer so bad, but not like that. Pressing his hand against the dip between the bulbous, jagged pecs before him, he broke their sealed kiss.
“What?” Kinzer rested his hands on either of Dedrus’s hips.
“This wouldn’t be right. I don’t want to disrespect you.”
“I know. But I want you to.”
Kinzer wrapped both arms around Dedrus. Spinning them around, he pushed Dedrus back against a painting that hung from the wall.
Kinzer’s eyes glistened with that gleam—the one that was so familiar to Dedrus.
Dedrus couldn’t control himself. His lips returned to their passionate embrace. His fingers found their way under Kinzer’s shirt, feeling about fervently, savoring the dips in his torso.
