Book Review- Prisoner of Death by Celina Summers

The Asphodel Cycle series continues as Ms. Summers brings back Tamsen and the crew in her Black Dream series. This time Tamsen finds herself facing a foe that is not just as powerful but one that will do anything they can to destroy her and her world.

My Rating for Prisoner of Death (The Black Dream Book 2): 5 Stars and Recommended Read

For Tamsen Ka’antira, waking up to find herself being called wife to a man who arouses nothing, but the suspicions are worrisome. It goes from bad to worse when she dreams of an elf lord who has her heart longing for and she tries to clear the cobwebs away from her mind as she puzzles out the truth. But when the smoke finally clears, Tamsen will find just who she is and who had her in their clutches. For the war has started and this time the gods are cut off from the mortal world and events arise that show that the race is on. Can Tamsen and her allies find a way to counter the Eleusis and destroy those determined to bring a new world order to the mortals and gods alike?

PRISONER OF DEATH opens as Tamsen finds herself in an unfamiliar yet familiar place being called by another name. She knows she isn’t this person’s wife in any way but how or why she knows this is a smokescreen in her mind. The story picks up right where book one, Servant of Dis, left off. It is one hell of ride from start to finish and there are twists and turns the reader will never see coming. The author does a masterful job in capturing Tamsen’s confusion, her horror and more as she figures out things and finds out the truth of matters. The world building alone is amazing. The author does an amazing job in creating a world where humans, gods and more roam and interact. This author had me at elves and gods right from the start since those are my favorite fantasy characters. Add in an amazing cast of characters that you can laugh over, cry and long for, well you got the makings of an epic fantasy story within the pages.

PRISONER OF DEATH is a story of not just one person but of many working to the coming good of the world. One woman’s quest brings together many around her, from gods to humans to mages and amazon warriors. Celina Summers delivers an amazing storyline that just transcends the pages. I fell into her storytelling with ease and didn’t surface till the wee hours of the morning when I finished the book. This is truly a master storyteller who knows how to draw her readers in, captivate them and keep them on the edge of their seat. The climatic ending left me racing to book three, Mage of Chaos, to see where the story continues. The cast of characters are what make this series so amazing. You got characters that grow with each book. You will find that some of the ones you met in book one, The Reckoning of Asphodel, will leave in a way that left me seriously thinking of buying stock in Kleenex company. You run the gauntlet of emotions with the main core of characters from the first set of the Ashodel series and in this spin-off, The Black Dream series, it’s been a decade or more since the end of the second Ilian war and peace has reigned in the world. Ms. Summers delivers an action-packed ride that will take the reader on a journey alongside Tamsen, Brial and others as they fight not just for the elves but for the world and the gods. If they fall, then all is lost.

PRISONER OF DEATH is a story that will thrill you, chill you and make your heart hurt at times even as you laugh later. Ms. Summers delivers a wonderful follow up to Servant of Dis and I am eager to see where this author leads us next in Mage of Chaos. If you enjoy the epic fantasy of George RR Martin or Kevin Hearne, then you will enjoy the Asphodel Series by this wonderful author. I do highly recommend you read from the first book series, The Reckoning of Asphodel and its three books afterwar that before you try the Black Dream. There are events from that four-book series that show up in this spin-off that might confuse first time readers. Besides you got to see how Tamsen and Brial met and fell in love because those scenes alone leave me in stiches each time I read them. I look forward to seeing where this author goes in her fantasy series that just draws you into its world and doesn’t let you leave until it has wrung every drop of emotion from you even as it steals your heart in the process.

My upcoming books are still being written. J I'm working on a novel about my elf king and also a new novel that has more to do with demons.

How did you come with the idea for this story?

The characters kind of pop up and demand to be written LOL

Teaser Excerpt:

He didn't want to have to drag her all the way to a tree. It was bad enough he'd need to tie her up. Elfess plus honey would be a nice treat for the malevolent fairy. He'd be more than willing to come back for a fresh bite. The disease inside him wouldn't settle for anything less once it smelled the flesh and honey mix, like sugar to ants. There was no other way the bounty would come back otherwise, and if he didn't pay off his gambling debt, then someone would be sent for him. Sent to hurt him until he paid. Mother Earth forgive him for his trespasses against this female. If he thought the bounty would come for a male dipped in honey, he'd do it himself, but the fear she would put off would be all consuming for the wicked Malevolent that had taken over the creature.

He waited for the trees to surround them, for plenty of space between the hunter office and Cayenne. When she figured out what he was doing to her, he wanted to be far enough no one would hear her foul mouth.

"So where are we headed?" Cayenne asked.

"Go for that skinny tree over to the left." His voice came out low and even, thankfully. He chose the skinniest tree he could so the rope would fit around it and her. If he worked fast enough and took her by surprise, she wouldn't know what he was doing until it was too late. Besides, she carried a good right hook, and he didn't want to feel it again so soon.

Cayenne sauntered over to the brown trunk and stopped. She glanced up the tree and then back down to the ground. "What's so special about this one?"

Thorn took a deep breath. His heart protested loudly in his chest. If he was going to do this, now was his chance.

He rushed her with the rope stretched out in his hands. She slammed into the tree with an oof. He kept his body pressed roughly up against hers, twisted the rope around her wrists, and then closed his arms around the trunk. His fingers worked quick to tie the knot on the other side.

"What the fuck are you doing?" Her voice came out in a high shrill.

He didn't answer her. If she was confused and irate, it would increase the lure like whip cream on a human sundae. He hoped she didn't become too afraid, and as soon as the spell was broken, he'd tell her he'd come back for her. Cayenne struggled against the restraints.

"Hawthorn! You bark rot! What have you done?"

An elfess in human form, Decadent enjoys dipping her fingers into the human realm where she took pen to paper and began the tales of the trouble with elves. Her obsessions include reading, Dean Winchester, and honey.

She will devour your soul with glimpses of the feral ridden drow elves, with their dark skin and soul consuming. She'll sneak morsels of naughty thoughts to you via goblins, and seduce you into stepping inside the elven realm where females disappear when lust takes over among other elfish troubles.

My Personal Review for An Elf For All Centuries

If you enjoyed the movie Zoolander here is the perfect answer to your desires. A spoiled supermodel elf, a desperate wizard and a love that is destined to cross the time. This is An Elf for all Centuries.


My Rating for An Elf for all Centuries: 3.5 Stars

Elf Prince Fabian is the best supermodel out there. But when he meets a wizard named Matradorian, well let’s just say the perfect life he had goes up in a puff of smoke. Now he is sent back in time to help his fallen King, Henda, who is grieving for his lover who died. But Fabian is facing obstacles at every turn because when he finds out that by helping the king recover, he just may have wiped himself out in his own time period. Can this supermodel elf find a way to go back to his time or will he be stuck in the time where he is just a normal elf?

S. A. Garcia delivers one hell of a story. It will keep you on the edge of your seat or in  my case, falling off the bed because I was laughing too hard at some of the over the top moments from Fabian. This is one rollicking ride from start to finish. It has humor, snarkiness and characters that had me intrigued. Can a spoiled supermodel elf find a way to get back to his own time period before it's too late? What happens when danger gets thrown int he mix and Fabian has to try to figure out who wants him dead? Lots of fun moments as well as tender ones too. So it balances the story out nicely. I got to admit, this story made me think of the movie Zoolander with Ben Stiller. It was funny, poignant and pure entertainment and this is the perfect complement to it. 


S. A. Garcia delivers a story that leaves you breathless and I loved her world building in this story. I am just hoping this author comes back to this world they created for more stories. This is one of those books I plan to read again. If you enjoy a right amount of sarcasm/snarkiness, romance and lust, a fast paced story-line and entertaining characters, then you found the perfect story to read on a hot summer afternoon. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
