Miller Fenwick wants the kind of happy ending his best friend got, with the hunky werewolf of his dreams. Trouble is, there doesn’t seem to be a Prince Charming on the horizon, and casual encounters don’t cut it anymore. Now that Alexx and Raoul are engaged, Miller is becoming resigned to being the bridesmaid, never the bride. But a chance encounter with a sexy stranger at Charisma has his hopes soaring, and his heart is wide open to possibilities.

Holt Wynne is the head of Helios, the largest vampire organization in the country. He’s a very influential and wealthy man, with a deep-seated hatred of werewolves. His running into Miller at Charisma isn’t entirely accidental. He’d meant to wait, but his emotions got the better of him, and he couldn’t stay away. And now see what he’s done…

Wait until Miller finds out he’s sortof just gotten married to the sexy vampire who hates the people who are Miller’s best friends. Sparks are gonna fly—and not just in the bedroom. One thing for sure—life in Crescent Bay is never dull!

Pages or Words: Approximately 115,000 words

Categories: M/M Romance, Mystery, Paranormal

Excerpt:
Miller forced himself to take a breath, unaware until he did that he’d stopped breathing.
Quit being ridiculous. Wine going to your head already?
But he’d only had the one glass. And he hadn’t even finished that. He wasn’t such a lightweight, when it came to holding his alcohol, and he knew it.
He told himself it was just his imagination. But just to be safe, he began a slow cautious turn, looking around him, without appearing to be searching for anything—or anyone.
And there he was.

Standing a heartbeat away from Miller was one of the sexiest men he’d ever seen in his life. A man every bit as sexy as Raoul Marchand, although not in the same feral way as the werewolf.
This man was light where Raoul was dark. His hair was a honey blonde which stood out by virtue of being obviously natural, in a place where most blondes were either created by the sun or came from a bottle. He stood a little taller than Miller, exuding a presence that went beyond the merely physical, possessed of the bearing and mien of a veritable god.
But it was his eyes that drew Miller in and held him spellbound. Blue and green, like staring into tropical waves, flecked with bits of pure molten gold. And the way he was staring at Miller was sending the most delicious shivers traveling up and down his spine.
The man took a step toward Miller, his hand outstretched. Before Miller quite realized what had happened, he’d placed his own hand inside of the other man’s, and he found himself being drawn onto the dance floor.

About the author:

Julie Lynn Hayes first began publishing short stories and poetry in the 1990’s, when it was a different ballgame altogether, and Ebooks hadn’t been dreamed of yet. That changed in 2010 with the acceptance of her first romance novel. She’s come a long way since that first book appeared, and is finding the journey a very educational one.

She lives in St. Louis with her daughter Sarah and her cat Ramesses. She often writes of two men finding true love and happiness in one another’s arms, and is a great believer in the happily ever after. She likes to write in different genres, to stretch herself in order to see what is possible. Her great challenge is to be told something can’t be done—she feels compelled to do it.

When she isn’t writing, she enjoys crafts, such as crocheting and cross stitch, needlepoint and knitting, and she loves to cook, spending time watching the Food Network. Her favorite chef is Geoffrey Zakarian. Her family thinks she’s a bit off, but she doesn’t mind. Marching to the beat of one’s own drummer is a good thing, after all. Her published works can be found at Dreamspinner Press, eXtasy Books, Wayward Ink Press, and Amber Quill Press.

Welcome Kelli Wilkins

Please welcome author Kelli A. Wilkins today as we chat about her books and anything else I can think of.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Sure! My name is Kelli Wilkins and I’m a writer. I pretty much write anything and everything. If I get a good idea for a story, I go with it!

I mainly write spicy romances and spooky horror stories. My romances vary in heat level from tender to sizzling-hot and cover nearly every genre: historical, fantasy, contemporary, paranormal, and gay.

To date, I’ve published 19 romances, more than 95 short stories, and 5 non-fiction books. I’m always writing something, outlining a new story, or gathering ideas.

What started your interest in writing?
I never actually decided to be a writer—it was just something that seemed natural to me. I’ve always been an avid reader and I think that sparked my interest in wanting to write my own stories. From a young age, I read everything I could get my hands on, regardless of genre: horror, non-fiction, contemporary, plays, and short stories.

I started writing when I was in elementary school, but I never tried to get any of my writings published until I enrolled in a commercial writer’s program as an adult. People liked reading my short stories, and I liked writing them, so I decided to submit them for publication. From there, my “official” writing career was born. I’ve been blessed with a lot of ideas, and I keep writing story after story as they come to me.

What has been the defining moment in your career that made you think “Yes, I am now a writer!”?
The first time I saw my name in print, I was thrilled! I guess that rush of excitement is a joy every published author can relate to. In a way, it “validated” the fact that my writing was good enough to be published, which in turn motivated me to keep going. Whenever I see a book or a short story with my name on it, I still get the same feeling of “Yey! There’s something I wrote for the whole world to see.”

What is your book(s) about?
In February 2015 I published a fun non-fiction guide to writing, titled: You Can Write—Really! A Beginner’s Guide to Writing Fiction. It’s based on my 15 years of experience as a writer, advice I’ve received over the years, and the technical “know-how” I’ve gained in writing classes and workshops. I included helpful tips and motivational writing exercises.

In 2014, I set a new record for myself. I had three romances published, and they’re all very different. A Secret Match is a contemporary gay romance set in the world of professional wrestling. My two other romances of 2014 are straight (M/F) historicals. Wilderness Bride is a traditional romance blended with adventure set in the Michigan Territory in 1823. Dangerous Indenture is a spicy historical with mystery elements that takes place in Pennsylvania Colony.

What are you currently working on?
Right now, I’m between projects. I just finished You Can Write—Really! A Beginner’s Guide to Writing Fiction, and I’m outlining several new romances, including a full-length historical, a paranormal, and another gay contemporary. I have lots of ideas for different types of non-fiction ebooks and an erotic romance series. All I need is time to develop them!

In the horror department, I’m working on a few short stories. My latest, “Home for Halloween” was published in the Moon Shadows horror anthology. Read more about it here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00N232UEG

Do you keep a notebook near you for when new ideas pop into your head?
Absolutely! I never know when I’ll get a story idea, a name for a character, a snippet of dialogue, or an outline for a scene. I keep paper and pen handy at all times and have been known to scribble ideas on the backs of envelopes and even paper towels!

I keep all of these ideas, etc. in a folder, and when I’m ready to start a new project, I pull it out and see what’s in there that I can use. Ideas are fleeting, so you have to write them down as soon as they come to you.

For readers who haven't tried your books yet, how do you think your editor or loyal readers would describe your books?
Reviewers and readers have fallen in love with my unique characters and far-from-typical storylines. My romances aren’t just about two people falling in love—I include interesting plots and blend in mystery, danger, adventure, or comedy to make them stand out.

I strive to give readers a happy-ever-after romance. I hope that they would think the book was a fun and sexy read, that they loved the characters and rooted for them to be together. (I’d also hope readers would recommend it to friends!)

Do you prefer to extensively plot your stories, or do you write them as they come to you?
I’m often asked if I’m a plotter or a pantser. For a while, I considered myself to be a plotter. And then one day, my characters took me hostage and I was abducted into the pantser world. When I started my first few novels, I had elaborate outlines that looked like I was writing a term paper. Section I, Scene A, then Scenes B, C, and so on. It took me a week or longer to write the outline, then I would start writing.

Over the years, my plotter side has met up with my pantser side, and I consider myself to be both. I still make an outline for my novels (mostly because they’re so much longer than my short stories), but it’s not as regimented.
I write down a scene number and general notes, snippets of dialogue, and anything else I want to include in the scene. I do this when I’m in the “gathering ideas” stage because I don’t want to forget anything. When I’m writing a short story, I jot down basic scene lists, so I have a logical flow of what’s coming next.
I find it’s easier and faster for me to write this type of outline. This way, I don’t get stuck on a section of the story where I don’t know what’s going to happen next. It’s like a road map of where I’m going. Even though I plot out my books, I always give the characters (and myself) permission to add new scenes as needed, veer off course, or take scenes in an unexpected direction.

Has there been any characters that started off as supporting characters, but then developed into a more prominent character?
Oh yes! This has happened several times. It first began with my historical/fantasy novella A Most Unusual Princess. I liked Dalton and Elara so much that I wrote a full-length sequel about them, Dalton’s Temptation. Then, while writing Dalton’s Temptation, I absolutely fell in love with Prince Allan (Elara’s brother), and knew he had to have his own book—so I wrote The Pauper Prince.

A similar situation happened when I wrote A Midsummer Night’s Delights. It was supposed to be one story, but turned into a trilogy and was followed by A Midwinter Night’s Delights and Ultimate Nights Delights.

I’m proud of all the books in these trilogies. Each one was a lot of fun to write, and I enjoyed following the characters through their adventures. Because I wrote each book without intending on making a trilogy, each book stands alone as an individual read.

A Secret Match is a follow-up (of sorts) to my other wrestling romance, A Perfect Match. That book was all about a straight couple (Vin and Danni) and Everett (the main character from A Secret Match) was a secondary character. I loved writing for Ev and always thought “one day” I’d give him a book of his own, but I didn’t have a clue as to what the story would be. I put thoughts of him aside and then one morning he popped into my head with a four-line book summary. Within an hour, I had the whole story in my head and I started writing.

I also have an idea for a follow-up book to Trust with Hearts that is devoted to the heroine’s cousin, Dave. I’m not sure when (or if) I’ll give Dave his own story, but you never know!

Is there anything you would tell aspiring writers?
The best advice I can give to any writer (regardless of what genre he or she likes to write) is to keep writing. It takes a lot of dedication and determination to sit down every day and write something. But the more you write, the easier it gets.

Writing classes are a great way to learn the basics and meet other writers. If possible, join a writer’s group or a critique group to get feedback on your stories. When you’ve written the best story you can, submit it! You can’t get published if you never submit, and you never know when your first acceptance will arrive. (These are some of the points I covered in my writing book—it’s filled with all the practical advice I’ve received over the years.)

Thanks for letting me share my thoughts with readers. I invite everyone to visit my website (www.KelliWilkins.com) to read excerpts, reviews, and summaries of my writings. You can also catch up on my blogs here: http://kelliwilkinsauthor.blogspot.com/ .

A Secret Match: contemporary gay romance; Amber Quill Press

Everett Kinkade is a world-famous professional wrestler and the sexy heartthrob of millions of adoring female fans. But Ev has a secret he doesn’t dare share with anyone. He’s gay.

After years of being Ev’s secret lover, Josh is tired of hiding in the shadows and wants Ev to openly acknowledge their relationship. Coming out is the last thing Ev wants and fears it will ruin his career.

One night in a moment of truth, Everett outs himself on live TV. There’s no going back, and his announcement sparks a firestorm of problems – both personally and professionally. He’s forced to come to grips with who he really is while facing down a tag team out to destroy him.

Torn between living a lie and losing the man he loves, Ev has risked everything… can he find a balance between his career and his heart?
 Excerpt from A Secret Match:

“Maybe we’ll take a swim later,” Ev said as he closed the bedroom door and picked the box off the nightstand. “This is for you.”

“A present? For me?” Josh smiled as he took the box.

“Well, technically it’s for both of us.” Ev bowed his head. “I thought…we might…you know. Oh, just open it,” he finished in a rush.

Josh unwrapped the box. It held a bottle of lube, condoms, and a sample pack of flavored lotions. “This is sweet.”

“I didn’t get anything kinky. I wasn’t sure if you’re into that or what…”

“I like to play around, but that can wait for another time.” He pulled Ev close for a kiss and felt him quiver. “Are you okay?”

Everett glanced into his eyes. “Yeah, I want to do this, but…it’s been a long time.”

Josh kissed Ev and slid his hands down his wide back, caressing him through his shirt. The scent of Ev’s citrus and sage cologne made his heart beat faster. “Don’t worry about a thing. Relax. You’re safe with me. I’ll take care of everything.”

He kissed Ev again, and a quiver ran up his spine as Everett slipped his tongue into his mouth. Josh cupped Ev’s tight buttocks through his jeans, pressing their lower bodies together. They lost themselves in the embrace, touching and stroking each other.

“Let me make love to you the way you deserve. Now strip for me, Muscles,” Josh teased. “Everything but the pants.”

Everett took off his shirt and kicked off his shoes and socks.

Josh grinned at the sight of Ev’s wide, tan chest and his flat belly. He stepped closer, trailing his hand down Ev’s six-pack abs. “Nice.”

Josh gathered Ev in his arms and nuzzled his neck, planting tiny kisses from his neck to his chest muscles. He kissed Everett’s pecs, then swirled his tongue around his left nipple. He spent the next few minutes licking and kissing Ev everywhere, slowly making his way down his stomach.

He kissed Ev a few more times, then unfastened his jeans. He unzipped them slowly, exposing Everett’s dark blue briefs. His erection was obvious. The pink head of his cock peeked out over his underwear. “These look tight.”

“Yeah.”

“Don’t be shy. Talk to me. Don’t be afraid to make some noise. I like to hear encouragement,” Josh said, toying with the edge of Ev’s briefs.

Discover what Elizabeth Delisi's Top Five list is

TOP FIVE PLACES I WANT TO VISIT IN EGYPT

Writing LADY OF THE TWO LANDS involved a lot of research. Along the way, I put together a list of the top five places I’d like to see in person someday.

1) Hatshepsut’s Temple:

The most unique funerary temple in ancient Egypt, in my opinion.

2) The Sphinx and Pyramids

The most recognizable image of ancient Egypt

3) The Temple at Abu Simbel

When the Aswan Dam was built, this temple had to be cut apart, moved to higher ground and reassembled so it wouldn’t be flooded.

4) 1)    The Temple at Luxor

The Avenue of the Sphinxes

5) Cairo Museum

Where you can see “wonderful things,” as archaeologist Howard Carter said when he entered King Tut’s tomb.

LADY OF THE TWO LANDS
By Elizabeth Delisi
Amber Quill Press
Time-travel romance set in ancient Egypt

One minute, Hattie Williams is in a museum, sketching a gold necklace that belonged to Hatshepsut, first female Pharaoh of Egypt; and the next, she's lying in a room too archaic to be the museum, with a breathtakingly handsome, half-naked man named Senemut bending over her.

Hattie soon discovers she's been thrust into the body and life of Hatshepsut, with no way back to her own time. Tuthmosis, the heir to the throne, hates her; the High Priest of Amun and the commander of the army want to kill her and Tuthmosis; and the best bathroom facilities in the country are the equivalent of a cat-box.

To make matters more difficult, she's falling helplessly in love with Senemut, and soon, she's not sure she even wants to return home. To protect Tuthmosis from assassination, the lovers arrange to put Hattie on the throne. But, what should she do when she suddenly finds herself, an obscure artist from Chicago, crowned ruler of all Egypt?

Teaser Excerpt:

Hattie banged on the door. "Is anyone there? Let me out!" She shouted and beat on the door with her palms, but all was ominously silent. If someone had been watching her, they had no intention of helping her out of her dilemma.

At last, resigned to her fate, she returned to her sketch pad. "If I'm going to be stuck in here, I might as well finish my work," she murmured. "Tom's bound to come back--I'm sure he will." Her voice echoed unconvincingly in the dusty, claustrophobic room.

Picking up her pencil, she focused deliberately on copying the tiny hieroglyphics with extreme precision. Gradually, she became absorbed in her work and forgot her predicament. Minutes flowed by with the only sound in the room the scratching of her pencil on the paper.

At last, she completed the final symbol on her detailed drawing and set down her pencil with a twinge of disappointment. She was curiously drawn to the glittering possession of the ancient, yet strangely modern woman. Hatshepsut had ruled Egypt fifteen-hundred years before Christ, at a time when women were considered no more important than servants or dogs. How had she managed it?

The vagrant breeze whispered past her face again, leaving a whiff of exquisite perfume in its wake. A rustle, like the caress of costly linen against bare skin, drew her attention. She felt a strong presence, though she knew she was alone in the tiny room.

"Touch it."

The words were so faint, Hattie wasn't sure she'd actually heard them. "Who's there?" she asked, though she didn't expect to get a response. The room was too small to hide anyone.

"Touch the necklace."

Hattie spun around, searching for the source of the barely audible words. "Tom, is that you? If it's you, I don't think this is funny! Open the door right now." She thumped it with her fist for emphasis.

There was no response.

Hattie turned back to the exquisitely fashioned falcon. Maybe it was her overworked imagination playing a trick on her; but the advice seemed sound. Perhaps if she touched the necklace, she could make a connection--psychic, empathic?--with the long-dead monarch. The necklace was strangely compelling, like a long-forgotten yet treasured memory.

She reached out slowly, cautiously. As her fingertips gently grazed the golden bird, an electric shock pulsed through her and a sudden wave of dizziness sapped her strength.

"Come to me," the ghostly voice whispered, stronger now. "Come to me--I have need of you."

The sweet, cloying scent of incense filled Hattie's nostrils, and flashes of light exploded behind her eyes. Her vision blurred; she felt as if she were reeling, falling down a long, dark tunnel. Gasping, she reached out blindly for something, anything, to steady herself. Her fingers skimmed across the surface of the table and fastened around the necklace. Clutching it, she fell heavily to the floor as everything went black.

At the turn of the twentieth century, Henry Simpkins is a valet at Taverslow, the Earl of Wayshaw’s Somerset home. When the Earl’s younger brother, Rafe, arrives from his villa in Italy, Henry is given the task of caring for his mischievous dogs, Pepe and Paolo. As part of his duties, he also goes to Rafe’s room each night to tidy away his clothes.

Now, Henry faces a difficult decision. Can he remain in the same house as Rafe if his affections are not returned?

Categories: Fiction, Gay Fiction, Historical, M/M Romance, Romance

Excerpt:
The next few nights passed in a similar way, with Henry nodding and smiling, and sometimes laughing, when Rafe talked of his life in Umbria. Falling to sleep each night in his narrow bed, Henry found himself dreaming of orange trees and vineyards. Sometimes he even dreamt of Rafe wandering among them in the Mediterranean sun, but on the fourth night when Henry went to Rafe’s room, something had changed.
Rafe seemed on edge as he opened the door, and he sat on the sofa in silence as Henry carried out his tasks.
Henry started to leave, when Rafe spoke at last, an unfamiliar tension in his voice. “Simpkins, could I ask you something?”
“Of course, sir.”
Rafe gazed intently at his fingernails, giving Henry no clue as to what he might ask. His eyes remained lowered as he made his enquiry.
“Simpkins, are you—are you the same kind of man as Oscar Wilde?

Welcome Erin O'Quinn today

Give a warm welcome to author Erin O'Quinn today...

To get us started can you tell us a little about what you are working on or have coming out?
I’m working on a sequel to a comedic MM romance-mystery. It’s set in a fantasy 1920s Ireland and tentatively titled Sparring with Shadows. The first of these two “Gaslight Mysteries,” titled Heart to Hart, comes out May 26 from Amber Allure.

How would you describe yourself using only five words?
Tedious perfectionist, ironic, sensuous wordsmith.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
It would no doubt be Ireland, and probably in Co. Donegal or Co. Derry—a part of the world I saw only in dreams and made an important part of six novels.

If someone hasn't read any of your work, what book would you recommend that they start with and why?
If you prefer mainstream, start with Running Over Rainbows, the book that started it all.

My husband, a voracious reader of fantasy, remarked one day that no writer of fantasy—or romance, to his knowledge—had ever used St. Patrick as a  character. And so two series were born: “The Twilight of Magic”  and “The Dawn of ireland.” The first series was co-written with my husband under our real names, Bil and Bon Franks, and the first novel Running Over Rainbows was published in January by MuseItUp Publishing. Nine other books follow in chronological order, that is, as the characters live them. These books start as YA-adult fantasies, cross over into erotic M/F romance and end as balls-out M/M historical romance.

For those who will not be tempted by “vanilla” YA fantasy or romance, you need to start with Warrior, Ride Hard and its mate Warrior, Stand Tall. Both are M/M romances, pretty rough-and-tumble, the story of a tough, embittered older man  and his much younger lover.

No matter which of these books you choose, you will soon see that I am a writer who loves to entwine both history and a deep sense of place into my work.

Are your characters able to love or do they need to be taught?
Good question! In looking at my list of novels, I’d say that almost all my MC have to be taught to love, and not always by his or her lover. A good example of one who has to learn is Gristle, the grim-jawed former Roman soldier who has convinced himself that Fate has branded him a bitter loner. Only a close relationship with a much younger, more open-minded man teaches him about the strange emotion called “love.”

What is coming up from you in 2013? Anything you want to tease us with?
What started out as a Nanowrimo exercise became a novel, recently accepted for publication. The book is called Heart to Hart, an end-of-steampunk-era comedy romance mystery. The pub date is May 26. I had so much fun writing this novel, a M/M romance, that as soon as I formatted it and turned it in, I began the sequel.

A taste of The Chase...

An outspoken gay and a quiet rancher are each pursuing a fantasy. Where will the chase lead them?

Brew, the openly gay smart-ass son of a lawyer, meets the man of his dreams—soft-spoken former football player Chase, son of a rancher, who has not yet come to terms with his own sexuality. Their meeting sparks a series of sexual encounters that send both men into the fabled Land of La La, until they must confront the menace of a crooked federal agent and the dream-shattering threat of Brew’s own gay-hating father.

Series name: Non-sequential series name “Noble Dimensions”

Genre: Contemporary M/M small-town out West

Publisher: Amber Allure, the  M/M wing of Amber Quill Press

This excerpt is told from Chase’s pov. Brew wants to show his new lover the Mustang Penultimate Douche Kit.

Chase stood in the shower, while Brew pulled the Penultimate douche kit from his shaving bag and hung it over the shower head, allowing it to fill with water that was warm, almost hot.

Brew joined him, letting the water hit his hair and face. “I haven’t douched you yet, have I, Chase?”

“Show me.”

The fixture on the end of the douche was unmistakable in its purpose, shaped almost exactly like Brew’s own long dick, studded with small holes. Brew knelt in front of him, mouthing his cock, licking his balls. Chase knew the douche bag behind him was full. Then the tip entered his hole, while Brew captured his balls in his mouth, drawing them in and letting them out with wet, slavering exaggeration.

Brew was working the cock-shaped tool up his ass. Bathed in mild soap, the prick-like tool easily entered his anus. Brew manipulated it like a fricking maestro, pushing gently, now harder, bending it and coming back out.

All the time he was pushing the douche tool into Chase, Brew sucked and drooled, playing his tip like a musical instrument and tonguing his slit. He heard Brew’s husky voice. “Talk to me. Let me know how. Tell me when.”

He grasped Brew’s head, showing him how fast to go. “Oh, shit, Brew, I want it. I feel it from both ends. Uhh, now, now.”

Chase began to spurt cum into his lover’s mouth. Brew let the water shoot up his butt at the same moment that his whole fucking asshole started to climax. He began to cry and sob, needing it, loving it, wanting it never to stop.

The next thing he knew, Brew was kissing and murmuring into his mouth. “Okay, okay, big guy. You were fucking great. So ready. I loved that.”

He took Brew by the shoulders and squeezed, hard. “Goddam you, Brew, I can’t take too many more like that.”

Bio:

Erin O’Quinn is my pen name for erotic M/F and M/M romances. I was born and raised in the high desert and mountains of Nevada. After attending the University of Southern California with a BA in English and an MA in Comparative  Lit, I became many things to many men: a college English teacher, a newspaper marketing guru, a car salesperson, a landscape/gardening professional, to name a few paths my life has taken.

I began writing in December of 2010, inspired in a sense by St. Patrick as I explained earlier. Now I have a backlist of 13 novels (all but three published). My husband Bil and I live in central Texas  with four curmudgeonly cats and two Mac computers.
