╰┈➤Here’s What Readers Have To Say!

“When a Mountie is kidnapped, it further complicates matters. As the tension keeps increasing, the action reaches a fever pitch. This author knows how to keep the plot moving swiftly to keep readers hooked. You will enjoy spending time with Windflower, a hero who’s clever, brave, and endlessly resourceful.” – Steven Finkelstein
Readers cannot help but enjoy this series. Even though there are some nail biting, adrenaline pumping things going on, it is balanced out by the personal parts of the story. Yes, Windflower could be chasing down a killer or a drug dealer, but he is always grounded with his wife and two daughters, his friends and his community. I personally enjoy when he does his smudging and reconnects with his deceased Auntie and Uncle and gives back to the earth.” – Cozy Mystery Book Reviews

Excerpt:

Summer was nearing its end in the small town of Grand Bank on the eastern shore of Canada. Winston Windflower, husband, father and RCMP officer, was enjoying some quiet time while his wife, Sheila Hillier, and their two girls, Amelia Louise and Stella, were in St. John’s for their annual back-to-school shopping spree. He was alone except for his four-legged friends. Lady, an eight-year-old collie, was still frisky and ready to go for a walk as always. Molly, the cat, was ageless and just about lifeless as she sat in her bed waiting for the next treat to fall in front of her.

It was a fine, sunny day as Windflower looked out of their home onto the Atlantic Ocean. Because it was so nice, he had taken the afternoon off for picking berries. The summer had been unusually hot and sticky, and that meant the berries were out a little earlier than usual. His fervent hope was that his special picking spot had not been disturbed by early pickers trampling down bushes and limiting the harvest.

If things went well, he could pick a gallon of berries in a couple of hours, and if he was super lucky, Sheila would make something fabulous with the blueberries when she got back. Maybe a pie or even one of her blueberry specialties. Windflower salivated when he imagined all of that deliciousness. He grabbed a couple of Tupperware containers and a bottle of water and then headed for his favourite spot.

There was a congregation of berry pickers at the closest picking location, just past the clinic. Bent over, they paid him little attention. He didn’t mind being ignored. The area was too busy and crowded for him. He took the trail down by the brook and then up the hill to the lookout. He paused for a moment to take in the majestic view of Grand Bank. Windflower glanced over the brook to the town and the wharf, all the way to the craggy outcrop that the locals called the Cape. Then he continued on up over the hill and towards the other side.

He veered off the path about halfway down and was very pleased to find his desired location calm and untouched. He said a silent prayer of thanks to Creator and began his task. Some people would have thought of this as work, but Windflower found berry picking both meditative and spiritual. It reconnected him to the land and made him think of his early days growing up on the reserve in Pink Lake, Alberta. His Cree family would all go berry picking for the day, bringing a lunch and a kettle to make tea.

He soon had one container filled and was working on the second when his pocket buzzed. He checked the number on his phone. It was Corporal Samira Gupta, his right-hand assistant, calling from the bigger community of Marystown. He had made arrangements with his boss, Superintendent Ron Quigley, that he would take the job as acting inspector for the region as long as he could stay in Grand Bank and have an assistant in Marystown. Gupta filled her role perfectly.

“What’s up, Corporal?” asked Windflower.

“Sorry to bother you,” said Gupta. “Betsy said you were off. But I thought you should know. We had a hit and run in Marystown. Over near Walmart. A woman in her forties is in hospital. Sergeant Tizzard is on the scene.” Eddie Tizzard was one of Windflower’s long-time friends and co-workers. They’d been working together for the last 10 years in one way or another.

“That’s a dangerous area,” said Windflower. “How is the woman?”

“She was unconscious when they brought her to the hospital in Burin,” said Gupta. “But no other information so far.”

“And the driver?”

“We’re working on it. Tizzard has a team doing interviews from the scene.”

“It’s busy around there. Somebody would have seen something.”

“That was our thinking, too,” Gupta agreed. “If we don’t get anything back soon from the canvass, we’ll do a media hit.”

“Perfect. Keep me posted.”

Now that his reverie had been disrupted, Windflower packed up his stuff and headed back down to his car. He was driving towards home when he noticed the driver of a passing car flashing their headlights at him. He slowed down and pulled over and then went to see if they were okay. As he got closer, he squinted to see Moira Stoodley, co-owner of the Mug-Up Café, the best and only diner in Grand Bank, in the driver’s seat. She was also the wife of his best friend, Herb Stoodley, who was tutoring him in two very diverse subjects—classical music, about which Windflower knew next to nothing before he met Herb, and trout and salmon fishing, which he thought he had mastered but now realized he was only a beginner.

He assumed Moira had stopped him to say hello or to pass along a message from her husband. But it was much more serious.

“I saw Mike Winger, that crazy-looking guy, back on the road,” said Moira. “It looked like his wheelchair had tipped over. A few young fellers were helping him get back up. But he looked in bad shape. Had a cut over his forehead. I asked him if he was okay. He told me to mind my business and went on home. You might want to check in on him.”

It wasn’t exactly his job to look after wandering locals, but it had become expected of the lone police officer in the community. He may have the high and mighty title of acting inspector, but his day job consisted of part-time social worker, youth counsellor and senior companion when he wasn’t solving crimes or directing the limited amount of traffic that Grand Bank produced.

Helping citizens in distress certainly fell into his ‘other related duties’, and Mike Winger seemed to be in constant need of assistance of one kind or another. Mostly of his own doing.

Windflower knew a little about the man from his many interactions with him. Winger was an American and a veteran of the Gulf Wars. After he left the military, he got certified as a refrigeration mechanic and started wandering around, first in the United States and then into Canada. He ended up in the Grand Bank area working for fish plants and discovered a place where nobody really knew him but welcomed him anyway.

Mike Winger finally felt at home. He bought a house and found a girl who eventually moved in.

His life seemed perfect until… the crash that changed his life. His girlfriend was killed instantly as his car slid off the highway to avoid a moose one late spring morning. He was left with one leg paralyzed and the other badly damaged. Stuck with his feeling of loss and grief, he turned to alcohol and then drugs. Then he became mean and isolated. His scooter was his only escape, but even that turned out to be another source of problems.

Windflower had rescued him and the scooter more times than he could remember. From ditches by the side of the road. From a farmer’s field. From the pub, more than once, when he had been asked to leave, none too politely. One time from the cemetery, although Windflower wasn’t exactly sure how that happened. Mike Winger was certainly one of Windflower’s pet irritants in Grand Bank. But since neither of them were going anywhere soon, they had figured out how to survive, if not get along, together.

Guest Author Day with Amber Daulton: Spotlight on Dark Hearts Aflame

Please give a warm welcome to Bristol from Dark Hearts Aflame by Amber Daulton today as we sit down and see what makes him tick.

Q: So tell us about yourself. What got you in the crosshairs for your author?

Damn, I don’t even know where to begin. I’ve given up my life of crime, and now, I’m hiding out in Mexico. The last thing I need is for the wrong people to find me, but after I run into a woman from my past, all my plans go up in smoke.

I first met Amber, my author, several years ago when she was writing another story, Arresting Mason, which is book 1 in the Arresting Onyx series. I was a secondary character, a villain to the hero of that story. Well, maybe “villain” is too strong a word. I was an adversary, let’s say, who wasn’t nearly as bad as Amber was making me out to be. As the series progressed, I came more into my own as a recurring minor character. Amber wanted to give me a redemption story, a happily ever after, so she wrote my book and developed even more ideas to create a spin-off. Hence, the Lozano Cartel series was born. Dark Hearts Aflame, my book, is the first in the series, and Amber is quite vocal about it being her FAVORITE book that she’s ever written. Don’t worry, you don’t need to read every book to understand and love mine. It stands very well on its own two feet.

Q: What was it that drew you to your mate?

Carmen Lozano is everything I’ve ever wanted in a woman, and everything I don’t deserve. Her strength, stubbornness, and determination to follow her heart and do what was right captivated me. You see, she’s the daughter of one of my many enemies. Yet, she’s not your average cartel princess. She ran away from her father and her abusive husband to make a new life for herself. Like me, she craves redemption and a chance for freedom. I can’t help but admire her.

Q: A little naughty fun, where was the wildest place you seduced your partner?

Well, this first place that comes to mind is the lush, green forest surrounding the ancient Mayan ruins in Edzná (southern Mexico). Actually, Carmen seduces me there. She was so infuriating that day, running off without a care in the world in her attempt to get me to loosen up. As if her putting us in danger would pull the stick out of my ass. All right, I know I’m uptight, but the feds and two cartels were after us, so I had to remain vigilant. Carmen, however, is a wicked woman. When she wants something, she’ll get it.

Q: So tell me: Boxers, briefs or Commando on a man?

Boxers, all the way. They’re comfortable and easy on the jewels.

Q: If your partner wants to seduce you, what's one sure fire trick they can do to seduce you?

Carmen is a tease. She knows exactly how to draw me in, pull away, then pounce when I least expect it. All she has to do is bat her eyelashes and fluff her hair, and I’m a goner. Embarrassing, but true.

Q: What is the one place on your partner's body that you know will drive them wild-in and out of bed?

Carmen loves it when I lick her neck. She gets all pimply and melts like a good girl.

Q: What was one of the most embarrassing things your author did to you in Dark Hearts Aflame?

That’s a difficult question. Amber did some horrible things to me and Carmen, but everything that happened was needed. My past experiences and the trouble I went through during the book shaped me into the man I am. Despite that, I hate myself sometimes. I’ve done so much wrong and didn’t act for the betterment of others when I should’ve. I will always carry that shame and regret, but I wouldn’t call any of it embarrassing. Maybe that scene at the end, where Carmen’s father finally gets me in his clutches. Being at that monster’s mercy was painful and degrading—and that Carmen witnessed it, yes, that was embarrassing.

Q: Anything else you would like to add?

Carmen’s estranged brother, Rubén, turned out to be an unlikely ally when we needed help the most. His story is coming up next. Lost in His Spiderwebs will be available in October 2025. Get ready to fall deeper into the dangerous world of cartels, violence, and passion. Poor Rubén doesn’t know what he’s in for.

Meet the Character Spotlight with Mychael Black

Please give a warm welcome to Cole England from Eternal (Fragile Web 2) by Mychael Black today as we sit down and see what makes him tick.

Q: So tell us about yourself. What got you in the crosshairs for your author?

Most likely that I’m a demon/vampire hybrid. My author is just weird like that. I also am not as old as some of his other characters, and, of course, I have a ridiculous amount of family drama.

Q: What was it that drew you to your mate?

Sam? What can I say? I have thing for muscled twinks. He’s hot, talented as fuck, and ultra-loyal. Did I mention he’s HOT?!

Q: A little naughty fun, where was the wildest place you seduced your partner(s)?

I’d have to say backstage at the first show I saw of his band, Fragile Web. And, actually, it was Sam who initiated the first kiss. Things just kind of went from zero to one thousand after that. That man has a VERY talented mouth.

Q: So tell me: What do you prefer: Boxers, briefs or Commando on a man?

I’m all for bare manflesh! That said, it doesn’t matter in the long run since they’re coming off anyway. *grins*

Q: If your partner wants to seduce you, what's one sure fire trick they can do to seduce you?

Exist. LOL Sam is IT for me. I was caught, hook, line, and sinker from the get-go. His kiss is a sure-fire way to seduce me, but he also accepts me in my demonic form. So… there’s that. *winks*

Q: What is the one place on your partner's body that you know will drive them wild-in and out of bed?

My tail. His dick. *winks*

Q: What was one of the most embarrassing things your author did to you in Eternal?

Nothing embarrassing, really. A bit traumatizing? Yeah, there was the last meeting with the father who tried to kill me.

Q: Anything else you would like to add?

You really should check out Fragile Web! The band ROCKS!

Thank you Cole for joining us on 'Meet the Character' day here at Dawn’s Reading Nook Blog. You can find all of Mychael Black’s books at https://mychaelblack.com/.

Sam McIntosh knows he doesn’t need to be in the closet with his friends, but his family is another matter entirely. He keeps his sex life under wraps and never lets on to anyone that he enjoys any gender. So far, that’s worked just fine -- until his father hires a new guy to work on the family farm.

Cole England has far more secrets than the average man, the least of which is his vampiric nature. He’s on the run from hunters sent by his father, and they are closing in on him. The last thing he needs is to fall for the son of the humans who hired him on their farm.

Between Sam’s bigoted family and Cole’s hunters, it’ll be a miracle if they can manage to explore the blazing attraction neither of them can deny.

EXCERPT:

Cole made it to the club well into the band’s first set. He’d fought the urge for hours, but he justified going by wanting to honestly hear their music. They played covers, but they also did originals. The club crowd, hyped and fueled by all manner of things illicit and legal, packed the room all the way to the stage. Cole found a vacant spot at the bar simply by a stroke of luck. Drink in hand, he faced the stage.

The gorgeous singer had the crowd hanging on every word and eating out of the palm of her hand. The guitarist and bassist possessed such strong chemistry, even an idiot could tell they were together. Nothing and no one, however, compared to the sexy powerhouse behind the black and red drum kit.

Cole had come with the notion of just listening to the music and watching the show. He downed the last of his drink a few songs later, knowing damn well his good intentions flew out the window. He had to get his hands on Sam.

Another few songs followed, and the band ended their first set. Cole waited at the bar while the musicians worked their way through the crowd. While the others went in different directions, Sam headed straight for Cole.

“Damn,” Cole said when Sam stood beside him at the bar. “Amazing music.”

Sam grinned. “Thanks!”

“What are you drinking?”

Before Sam could answer, the bartender set a bottled water in front of him. Sam held it up. “I avoid alcohol during shows. Follow me.”

Without waiting for a reply, Sam turned and headed toward the stage but then went through a door. Cole walked in behind him, only to be met with a very welcome kiss.

Sam dove in with absolutely no inhibitions, and Cole opened himself for anything and everything the man gave him. Hands worked up under Cole’s shirt, while his own gripped Sam’s hips. Hardness pressed against Cole, making them both groan.

“God, I’d do anything to get you into bed,” Sam whispered.

Cole nodded. “You’re doing all the right things, that’s for sure.”

Sam chuckled. “Keep a look out.” Then he dropped to his knees.

A moment later, Cole’s head fell back to the wall, and he moaned Sam’s name as heat enveloped him. Cole ran his fingers through Sam’s short hair and thrust into Sam’s mouth. Deft, strong fingers toyed with his balls, timing gentle tugs with every movement of those lips up and down his cock.

“Sam…” Cole warned.

Sam hummed, and Cole just let go. He shot down Sam’s throat, legs threatening to give way. A few seconds later, Sam licked him clean and stood for another kiss. Cole loved tasting himself on Sam’s tongue. He pushed a hand into Sam’s pants to reciprocate.

“Come home with me after,” Sam murmured, breath warming Cole’s lips. “Need your cock in me.”

Guest Author Day with Karenna Colcroft

Please give a warm welcome to Quinn Boucher from Ebb and Flow by Karenna Colcroft today as we sit down and see what makes him tick.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not saving (the world, clients, your mate)?

At this point, honestly, just look out the window at the ocean. I grew up in central Saskatchewan, and after I became a werewolf, I was part of a pack in North Dakota. I never saw the ocean until recently. Now I just want to look at it all the time.

What is it about your love interest Malachi that makes you crazy in a good way?

Malachi is my mate, and that’s crazy enough. Like, I knew werewolves have mates, but I didn’t think I would find mine. I definitely didn’t think it would be a guy who’s like a century older than me. (Werewolves live way longer than humans.) Other than that, I guess it’s the way he takes control. I get the chills—in a good way—when he commands me. And when he calls me his boy…swoon is all I can say. And I will never say it again, because that sounds weird as hell.

Do you sometimes want to strangle your writer? Thrash them to within an inch of their life? Make them do the stupid crap they makes you do?

Not at all! What Karenna’s written about me is my life. She hasn’t made me do anything. More like I’m making her tell my story. She didn’t even expect me to exist in the book that introduced me (Take Some Tahini), but when I showed up, she went with it. We get along pretty well.

Any Favorite food?

I have to choose one? Um… chocolate ice cream. That’s really good.

Tell me a little bit about your world. What are your greatest challenges in that world?

I’ve only been part of “my” world for less than a year. Last year at this time, I was human, getting ready to start my third year at university, enjoying living in Winnipeg, where I could be more myself than I got to be in the tiny town where I grew up. Then I hit on the wrong guy at a bar and wound up being changed into a werewolf. That guy and the Beta of his pack kept me hidden for a month, but on the first full moon after I was changed, I escaped.

I guess that’s one of the biggest challenges. What those two guys did to me while they had me. I still have nightmares about it.

Getting used to being a werewolf hasn’t been exactly easy. The guy who changed me and his Beta didn’t tell me anything about what I was or how any of it worked. I didn’t even know I was going to shift on full moon night, and believe me, that isn’t something I would have done if I’d had a choice.

And then there’s what happened to my pack. Including the man who took me in and became my partner. We were only together a few months before I lost him. He saved me by telling me to run, but werewolves from another pack killed him and four other members of our pack, including the Alpha. I still have nightmares about that, too. And then the new Alpha kicked me out of the pack. At least Tobias—the Anax, I’ll explain that in a minute—took me in.

I’m mostly used to the whole shifting on full moon nights thing now, but the rest of it… Yeah. Pretty challenging. But I have friends, and I have Malachi. So it’s getting easier.

Describe yourself in four words.

Oh, that’s a tough one. Um… scattered. Smart. Stubborn. Supportive. Dang, that’s a lot of S’s…

What do you do for a living?

I’m a guard for the Anax of the United States. The Anax is like a werewolf president, kind of; he’s in charge of all of the werewolves in the country. Every country has an Anax. And a lot of people aren’t exactly thrilled with Tobias, the U.S. Anax, so kind of like the President has the Secret Service, Tobias has guards.

What do you fear the most?

Belot. The wolf who changed me. He’s dead. I killed him. But I’m still scared shitless that he’ll come back somehow.

Excerpt:

Before I could protest, Malachi kicked the door shut, lifted me like I weighed nothing, and carried me over to the bed. He dropped me gently and stood, hands on hips, staring down at me.

He didn’t speak. Chest tight, lying propped up on my elbows, I could only stare up at him. Orange and purple flared around him. Was he hard? I was eye level with his crotch, but looking to see if his cock was hard didn’t seem right.

The silence was uncomfortable as hell. I wanted to say something, anything, just so there would be sound. But I had nothing to say. No words in my head.

I was alone with my mate. And all I could do was sit there like an idiot.

“I want you,” he growled finally. “I won’t take you. Not yet. But I want you.”

“I…” Yeah, words were still not happening.

He sat on the edge of the bed and turned to face me. “I felt your pain, boy. Saw him. Your man. The one you lost. He looked kind.”

About Kinney, I could talk. “He was.”

“He took care of you.” He rested his hand on mine. “No shame in wanting someone to take care of you. I think most people want that.”

“Yeah.” My mouth was dry as hell. Wasn’t Silas supposed to bring me water? I licked my lips, which didn’t help at all.

“I make you nervous.” He scoffed. “Fair enough. You make me nervous too. And all kinds of turned on. I’d take you here and now, but neither of us is ready for what that will mean.”

“It means sex.” Okay, I could be a wiseass with a dry mouth and a mostly empty brain. That was better than struggling to say a damn thing.

He rolled his eyes. “Yes, it does. And it means claiming. You think this mate bond is strong now? Sex cements the bond. We’ll belong to each other. Be joined completely. No way out of it.”

I hadn’t known that. I’d thought the mate bond just existed. I’d never asked anyone how the whole thing worked. Claiming, though…that made sense. The bond was there, but the mates had to accept it. That was what claiming was. The word itself resonated through me, and the mingled orange and purple deepened. Not only Malachi’s lust. Mine too. I wanted to be claimed.

Welcome Emily Carrington and her boys from Dragon Schooled Box Set

Please give a warm welcome to Blau, James, and Chen from Dragon Schooled 1 (box set) by Emily Carrington today as we sit down and see what makes them tick.

Q: So tell us about yourself. What got you in the crosshairs for your author?

Blau: I think it was because she wanted a lover for Professor Rob Boyle, who used to be a casual love interest for another of her characters. Rob is sexy in a non-traditional way, and he’s wicked smart.

James: I’m Mark Tavery’s (Dragon in Training) younger brother. Unlike Mark, I’ve lived in terror of my human lovers being hurt by other dragons, and I’ve only taken human lovers because I’m a runt dragon, not worth the others’ time.

Chen: I’m still mad at Emily Carrington for making me like bondage and discipline so much.

Q: What was it that drew you to your mate(s)?

Blau: He’s… *blushes* attractive in his manner, his mind, and his body. He is like a beacon in the darkness.

James: He’s fiery and never backs down from a fight. Of course, that’s what drives me nuts about him, too.

Chen: He’s not afraid, either of my noble birth or the fact that I could easily roast him. And he’s unafraid of giving pleasure, even when that means he has to be dominant over a virile land dragon like me.

Q: A little naughty fun, where was the wildest place you seduced your partner(s)?

Blau: an airport bathroom, in a handicap stall. I was so afraid we’d be overherad…

James: A closet in a rehab center where I wasn’t even supposed to be.

Chen: Honestly, he surprises me almost every time we make love. I’d be amazed if we didn’t , one day, try be exhibitionists.

Q: So, Boxers, briefs or Commando on a man?
Blau: Boxers. I like to unwrap my packages slowly.

James: Anything, as long as I can have Hank in my bed.

Chen: commando. Although, he likes me in briefs to restrict e. And for spanking.

Q: If your partner wants to seduce you, what's one sure fire trick they can do to seduce you?

Blau: Ice swimming. Now that we’re both ice dragons, Rob craves the silky chilliness of the water and it arouses us both.

James: I like reading the stories he writes. Those get me hot and bothered.

Chen: Bring out the leather handcuffs and the paddle.

Q: What is the one place on your partner's body that you know will drive them wild-in and out of bed?

Blau: …Rob’s ears are very sensitive when he’s in his ice dragon form… *blushes again* And they’re almost as erection-inducing in human form.

James: It’s different with Hank. He’s so changeable that I’m always guessing.

Chen: My lover likes his palms tickled. I’ve never met anyone who gets so turned on by that.

Q: What was one of the most embarrassing things your author did to you in Dragon Schooled 1 (box set)?

Blau: She made me attracted to a man who was nursing a broken heart.

James: Emily made me a coward. Okay, not really. What she actually did was make me have common sense, and it’s hard to have common sense when your partner’s a hothead.

Chen: She dug into my soul and revealed how much I enjoy BDSM, at lease with Travis.

Q: Anything else you would like to add?

Blau: I’m not the best chess player, but Rob takes pity on me and lets me win sometimes… Yes, this is part of our foreplay at times.

James: Hank is related to a man who’s part of a werewolf pack, and that makes things kind of strained between his father’s lovers and me. But we’re slowly working it out.

Chen: Travis is hot as a land dragon.

Three men and the dragons they love confront their fears to find forever in each other’s arms…

Russian Blau: Ice dragon Blau Lepa seeks nothing more or less than to be a professor at SearchLight Academy. He’s wanted to teach his whole life, and considers it a sacred calling. When he meets Professor Rob Boyle, he’s instantly attracted, but they’re both convinced that teachers and students shouldn’t have sex, not to mention that Blau’s afraid to bond with a human who will pass away so quickly. Eventually Rob gives in to his attraction and finds being dominated by Blau fills him with soaring desires and heals his wounded heart. But is that enough to make him decide to throw away his humanity and accept magical powers so that he can spend all eternity with his lover?

American Telepath: James is a water dragon who fell in love with a human. Rather than expose that human to a dangerous magical world, James abandons Henry. When they meet again it’s like they were never separated. Except Henry refuses -- beyond the occasional bang -- to have anything to do with James. Together they struggle to overcome the past.

Chinese Morning: Travis longs to remain in the magical world which has given him so much pleasure. The only problem: he’s terrible at his job, and without his job he cannot stay. To distract himself, he seeks out the challenge of sexually dominating a dragon. As Chen falls for Travis’s mouth and hands and mind, he is forced to accept the truth: submission is where he’s meant to be. Will their attraction be enough to rescue them?
