Belega

by Dianne Hartsock

GENRE: Erotic Fantasy Romance (M/M)

The Karthagans have regained their ancient powers of manipulating nature, but at the price of madness. In their lust for control, they've destroyed their island and most of their race. They come now to Belega, where one of them, Camron, seeks domination over the known world. The Mage has come from the northern continent of Sennia to bring peace but finding his strength no match for the coming struggle, he passes his abilities on to Natan, who only desires a simple life.

Now only Natan has the ability to stop Camron, but the personal cost is more than he imagines. It is only with the combined strength of his friends, his Karthagan lover, Kavi, and his deep desire to bring lasting peace to the earth, that he finds the courage to overcome Camron and restore balance to the world.

Exclusive Excerpt:

The Red Twins ran swift as deer through the forest, springing over fallen logs and underbrush, up and down hollows, laughing and calling aloud until they erupted into their father’s camp. Kayden heard them coming, and although he frowned at the noise, he let it pass, as he did everything else. As it was, the twins were barely in his control. He couldn’t risk their alienation.

“Boys,” he acknowledged as they tumbled at his feet.

“Hi, Father,” they exclaimed as one and sat cross-legged in the soft dirt. Long black hair glinted almost blue in the sunlight around their thin faces. Their unique eyes, of so light a brown they seemed golden, rested unblinking on him.

Kayden studied them. “What did you find out?” he asked when the boys offered nothing further.

“We saw cousin Gavin,” Aiden answered and picked up a pebble. “Kavi was with him and a strange man. We followed them to Alek’s camp.” Aiden began to toss the pebble back and forth between his hands. Ethan watched curiously, then made a motion with his hand, and the pebble stopped in midair.

“Hey, let it go.” Aiden slapped at his brother, who merely laughed. Then a light came into the boy’s eyes that made Aiden sit back. The pebble began to rotate swiftly. Aiden closed his eyes tightly and screeched as the pebble whizzed by his ear.

“Ethan!” he hollered, shoving the boy over. Ethan lay in the dirt and laughed to himself.

Kayden watched him uneasily. Ethan was a few heartbeats younger than his brother and rarely spoke but was given to bouts of frenzy that seized him without warning. Then there was no knowing what he would do. Aiden claimed that it had been Ethan who’d killed their mother as they were born. There were times when Kayden believed it. He sighed, remembering Cinda, wild and beautiful, whom he’d loved and feared in equal measure.

“What happened at Alek’s camp?” he prompted the boys.

Aiden’s face broke into a wide grin. “We destroyed it!” He giggled.

“Children,” Kayden chided softly. “You were only supposed to find it for me. Never mind,” he hastened to add as their faces clouded. “How many would you say were left?”

“I don’t know. What did Camron make for lunch?” The boys jumped up and ran for the mess tent. Kayden swore bitterly as he followed. The children were out of control, with their grown cousin Camron just as dangerous. They’d prove the death of their people yet.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Dianne grew up in one of the older homes in the middle of Los Angeles, a place of hardwood floors and secret closets and back staircases. A house where ghosts lurk in the basement and the faces in the paintings watch you walk up the front stairs. Rooms where you keep the closet doors closed tight at night. It’s where her love of the mysterious and wonderful came from. Dianne is the author of m/m romance, paranormal/suspense, fantasy adventure, the occasional thriller, and anything else that comes to mind.

She now lives in the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon with her incredibly patient husband, who puts up with the endless hours she spends hunched over the keyboard letting her characters play. Dianne says Oregon’s raindrops are the perfect setting in which to write. There’s something about being cooped up in the house with a fire crackling on the hearth and a cup of hot coffee in her hands, which kindles her imagination.

Currently, Dianne works as a floral designer in a locally-owned gift shop. Which is the perfect job for her. When not writing, she can express herself through the rich colors and textures of flowers and foliage.

Hi Tracie! I've been writing since 1st grade, but it wasn't until I discovered Ray Bradbury that a flame ignited in me to want to be a published author.
