Guest Author Day with Kalissa Wayne

Please give a warm welcome to Rafe Blackwolfe from The Darkness by Kalissa Wayne today as we sit down and see what makes him tick.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not saving your mate? Hmmm, I’d say it’s split evenly between family time and raising horse.

What is it about Ange that makes you crazy in a good way? *snort* Her stubbornness, depending on the situation. As long as it’s not something that threatens her, it’s crazy “in a good way” but I take her safety very seriously.

Do you sometimes want to strangle your writer? Thrash her to within an inch of her life? Make her do the stupid crap she makes you do? Not unless she endangers either Ange or my sister Ness’ life. I’ve been trained to handle anything, but the thought of losing them…. *huffs, frowns and crosses his arms over his chest*

Favorite food? I love a good steak, but Ange has this chocolate/peanut butter cheesecake she makes….

Tell me a little bit about your world. What are your greatest challenges in that world? *silently contemplates before cutting his eyes to (interviewer)* I’m still learning to accept Josh’s death wasn’t my fault. He was *pauses* he was my brother in more ways than one. It’s just hard to…. *coughs into hand*…. Next question please.

Describe yourself in four words. Hard working family man

What do you do for a living? Inactive military, rancher, horse breeder/trainer for both rodeo and special needs persons. I’d like to expand into some type of rehab/re-coop retreat for military personnel eventually.

What do you fear the most? Losing the rest of my family, whether by blood or by choice. Are we done now? I need to get back to them…

Gabriel “Rafe” Blackwolfe was a member of Alpha Unit until the day a mission went sideways. The whole unit was injured but his best friend, Josh Riley was killed. Josh was not only his best friend since youth, but also his brother-in-law. After recovering, Rafe went home to live in seclusion on the family ranch. Survivor’s guilt is compounded by feelings of letting his sister down. Now, weeks before the sixth anniversary of the helicopter explosion, a small plane crashes in his field and he rescues the only survivor.

She wakes with no memories except that, maybe, her name is Ange. As she recovers, Ange meets the man who rescued her. Rafe stirs more than feelings of gratitude. As her memory slowly returns, she finds her happiness lies with Rafe. Will he let go of a past that he couldn’t control and accept love? Will she remember everything from her past?

Because the accident is ruled intentional, and an unknown enemy may find Ange to finish what the crash didn’t…

Contemporary Military/Western/BBW
Shutting the door and turning towards the smaller barn where he kept Sate while he was away, he froze for an instant, then started sprinting as fast as he could. Horror shot through his chest. He’d just seen someone open the corral gate and enter with Sate standing there. That stallion didn’t like anyone except Rafe. While it was doubtful he would actually attack anyone, Rafe had never chanced it. The fifty yards or so seemed like miles and took forever to cross. Rafe didn’t yell, he didn’t want to scare either the horse or whoever it was insane enough to enter that corral. He slowed when he was ten feet from the gate, and had stopped dead still before he ever touched it. Standing in the middle of the corral, calm as could be, Sate was eating something out of a hand. A soft voice was talking to him quietly, reaching up to pet his head, whispering sweet nothings.

“Such a good boy. Yes you are. Pretty boy.”

The object of Rafe’s erotic dreams stood there, casually feeding his demon horse carrot sticks.

Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail, changing from dark auburn to a brighter red in the sunlight. She wore sunglasses, an old decrepit t-shirt and jeans that hugged her backside just a tad too snuggly for Rafe’s current state of mind and body. What caught Rafe’s attention though, was her voice. He’d only heard it in whispers or in pain. Her voice came through the afternoon sunlight as a rich velvety tone. Smooth and smoky like a blues singer. He groaned, imagining how that voice would now haunt him in his dreams…
