Character Spotlight with author Kenzie Michaels

Please give a warm welcome to from Catered Romance by Kenzie Michaels today as we sit down and see what makes him tick.

Q: So tell us about yourself. What got you in the crosshairs for your author?
Courtney:  I had gone to a bar with some colleagues after work and saw this handsome guy with his extremely drunken date.  It was the classic ‘our eyes met across the crowded room’, but since she was all over him, and I’m not into that much PDA, I put him out of my mind.  A week later, my friends and I were at another bar, and the same guy bought me a drink and apologized.  Our chemistry was off the charts from there!

Amber:  Kenzie will tell you that I popped into her head while she was cooking dinner….Marcus hadn’t seen me in three years, and suddenly there I was, having to fill in for the caterer he’d hired.  I’d hoped he wouldn’t find out, but he showed up in the kitchen and our frustrations with each other just sort of boiled over.  After his party, he found me wandering through his pantry, when I discovered he had my missing spice rack.

Natalie:  I came home for my 25th class reunion and discovered the guy I had a crush on all through high school and college was now divorced.  We ended up on the dance floor together, so when I caught him sneaking peeks down my shirt, I thought, ‘what the hell’, and let him kiss me.  Things just sort of escalated from there.

Cara:  When I applied for the job of being Austin’s Administrative Assistant, I heard rumors of him being a womanizer, and was surprised when he hired me, instead of someone more attractive.  But as the weeks went on, I got to know him on a personal level, and I really appreciated the way he stepped in to help me when my brother began to cause problems.

Q: What was it that drew you to your mate?

Co:  Turned out I knew his kids, from working at the country club, and they were high on my list of ‘favorites’.  Dustin turned out to be a very involved dad, instead of what I’d been told, and when I became his father’s weekly caterer, well, that was icing on the cake.
A:  Marc and I always got along, and we’re all adults, right?  I’m a little adventurous in the bedroom, and he went along with whatever I wanted.  For instance, we’d take turns tying each other up, or having sex in the women’s restroom at the club I worked at.  Were you there, Courtney, when I was fired, because Marc had pulled me into the Men’s Locker room and his dad walked in on us while giving potential members a tour?

Co:  That was YOU?  I had only worked there one day, so rumors were flying around.

N:  Brian and I liked to argue and debate issues, but after twenty-five years, I was thrilled to finally be the one to get him to trust women again, and show him what he’d been missing.

Ca:  Austin’s willingness to help the underdogs is what melted my heart.  He won the lottery, and instead of just blowing his money away, puts it back into the community, to help underprivileged kids.  It’s not a private club where you pay dues; it’s open to the public and he provides programs for kids to be involved in athletics, or after school care….he helps out single moms with child care and provides jobs for teenagers.

N:  I used to baby-sit Austin, and I’m thrilled that the brat of the neighborhood has turned his life around.

Q: A little naughty fun, where was the wildest place you seduced your partner(s)?

Co:  Dustin seduced me in what I thought was a model home; we’d used the office for a conference, then he asked if I wanted a tour of the place.  I knew I’d never get another chance to see one of those mansions, so I jumped at the chance, never knowing we’d end up naked in the master bedroom!

A:  Marc and fooled around on the 16th green one evening, and nearly got caught by the grounds keeper.  Other than that, we did have sex on the conference table of his father’s boardroom once.

N:  During the family picnic on the 2nd day of the reunion, Brian pulled me into an empty shelter house which had walls, but we didn’t have sex.  We only kissed, and he unfastened my shirt and bra, but we didn’t want people to know we were involved yet.

Ca:  Austin and I made love on his desk one morning, before any other staff arrived.

A:  Did he do the whole ‘sweep everything off the desk’ first?

Ca:  (laughs) Let’s just say I’m glad his laptop was still in his briefcase!  That would have been expensive.  Afterward, we kept finding pens and paperclips all over the office.  Thankfully, no one seemed to notice.

Q: Boxers, briefs or Commando on a man?
All:  Boxer-briefs!

Q: If your partner wants to seduce you, what's one sure fire trick they can do to seduce you?

Co:  Kiss me under my ear.  I don’t know why; I melt every time.

A:  I can’t explain it, but Marc just has this look.  I get wet just picturing it.

N:  This may sound corny, but Brian once called me beautiful.  So now when he smiles and calls me ‘beautiful’ or ‘sexy’, I’m all his!

Ca:  I’m the same way, Natalie.  Austin and I have a song, ‘The Reason’ by Hoobestank.  All he has to do is pull me into his arms whenever that song comes on.

Co:  That’s so sweet!  I think ours is ‘Million Reasons’ by Lady Gaga.

A:  Right now, Marc’s into country, so ours is ‘From This Moment’ by Shania Twain

N:  Ours is definitely ‘Faithfully’ by Journey.

Q: What is the one place on your partner's body that you know will drive them wild-in and out of bed?

Co:  Dustin just melts when I run my fingers up and down his ribs lightly, not enough to tickle.

A:  (clears throat) Marcus loves it when I stroke his butt.

N:  Brian’s left earlobe, and also when I run my fingers through his chest hair.

Ca:  There’s a sensitive spot under Austin’s chin.  I kiss it, or lightly run my tongue over it, and he’s all mine!

Q: What was one of the most embarrassing things your author did to you in ?

Co:  Having my boss screech at me in front of everyone.  Couldn’t she have confronted me in private?

A:  I think being walked in on by your partner’s parent ranks pretty high!

N:  The only thing that comes to mind was when I misunderstood about Brian’s casual relationship.  Remember the morning we came into AJ’s for breakfast, Amber?  I thought you were the woman he was involved with.

A:  (chokes) Oh god no!  I set up the motel room for them to meet every week, but that’s the extent of my involvement in his love life.
C:  Other than showing how naive I was about my brother, I can’t think of anything.

Q: Anything else you would like to add?

N:  Thank you so much for having us today!  Our stories were first published ten years ago, and Kenzie very thoughtfully put us in print form for the first time.  I hope that anyone who read and loved Appetite For Desire (Courtney and Dustin’s story), All She Ever Wanted (Amber and Marc’s), Class Reunion (mine and Brian’s), and Off The Clock (Cara and Austin’s), will rediscover this awesome saga of small town life.

Co:  I’d like to thank Kenzie for adding me to her original trilogy.  Otherwise, I’d still only be in e-book format.

A and Ca:  Thank you very much, Dawn.  This was fun!

Course Four: Off The Clock: Austin Harmon is intrigued by his quiet, efficient new administrative assistant. Why does she have an obsession with her watch, and what does she do after hours? Cara has put her social life on hold while caring for her elderly mother. Romance and Alzheimer’s don’t mix…or do they?
