Welcome Erin O'Quinn today

Give a warm welcome to author Erin O'Quinn today...

To get us started can you tell us a little about what you are working on or have coming out?
I’m working on a sequel to a comedic MM romance-mystery. It’s set in a fantasy 1920s Ireland and tentatively titled Sparring with Shadows. The first of these two “Gaslight Mysteries,” titled Heart to Hart, comes out May 26 from Amber Allure.

How would you describe yourself using only five words?
Tedious perfectionist, ironic, sensuous wordsmith.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
It would no doubt be Ireland, and probably in Co. Donegal or Co. Derry—a part of the world I saw only in dreams and made an important part of six novels.

If someone hasn't read any of your work, what book would you recommend that they start with and why?
If you prefer mainstream, start with Running Over Rainbows, the book that started it all.

My husband, a voracious reader of fantasy, remarked one day that no writer of fantasy—or romance, to his knowledge—had ever used St. Patrick as a  character. And so two series were born: “The Twilight of Magic”  and “The Dawn of ireland.” The first series was co-written with my husband under our real names, Bil and Bon Franks, and the first novel Running Over Rainbows was published in January by MuseItUp Publishing. Nine other books follow in chronological order, that is, as the characters live them. These books start as YA-adult fantasies, cross over into erotic M/F romance and end as balls-out M/M historical romance.

For those who will not be tempted by “vanilla” YA fantasy or romance, you need to start with Warrior, Ride Hard and its mate Warrior, Stand Tall. Both are M/M romances, pretty rough-and-tumble, the story of a tough, embittered older man  and his much younger lover.

No matter which of these books you choose, you will soon see that I am a writer who loves to entwine both history and a deep sense of place into my work.

Are your characters able to love or do they need to be taught?
Good question! In looking at my list of novels, I’d say that almost all my MC have to be taught to love, and not always by his or her lover. A good example of one who has to learn is Gristle, the grim-jawed former Roman soldier who has convinced himself that Fate has branded him a bitter loner. Only a close relationship with a much younger, more open-minded man teaches him about the strange emotion called “love.”

What is coming up from you in 2013? Anything you want to tease us with?
What started out as a Nanowrimo exercise became a novel, recently accepted for publication. The book is called Heart to Hart, an end-of-steampunk-era comedy romance mystery. The pub date is May 26. I had so much fun writing this novel, a M/M romance, that as soon as I formatted it and turned it in, I began the sequel.

A taste of The Chase...

An outspoken gay and a quiet rancher are each pursuing a fantasy. Where will the chase lead them?

Brew, the openly gay smart-ass son of a lawyer, meets the man of his dreams—soft-spoken former football player Chase, son of a rancher, who has not yet come to terms with his own sexuality. Their meeting sparks a series of sexual encounters that send both men into the fabled Land of La La, until they must confront the menace of a crooked federal agent and the dream-shattering threat of Brew’s own gay-hating father.

Series name: Non-sequential series name “Noble Dimensions”

This excerpt is told from Chase’s pov. Brew wants to show his new lover the Mustang Penultimate Douche Kit.

Chase stood in the shower, while Brew pulled the Penultimate douche kit from his shaving bag and hung it over the shower head, allowing it to fill with water that was warm, almost hot.

Brew joined him, letting the water hit his hair and face. “I haven’t douched you yet, have I, Chase?”

“Show me.”

The fixture on the end of the douche was unmistakable in its purpose, shaped almost exactly like Brew’s own long dick, studded with small holes. Brew knelt in front of him, mouthing his cock, licking his balls. Chase knew the douche bag behind him was full. Then the tip entered his hole, while Brew captured his balls in his mouth, drawing them in and letting them out with wet, slavering exaggeration.

Brew was working the cock-shaped tool up his ass. Bathed in mild soap, the prick-like tool easily entered his anus. Brew manipulated it like a fricking maestro, pushing gently, now harder, bending it and coming back out.

All the time he was pushing the douche tool into Chase, Brew sucked and drooled, playing his tip like a musical instrument and tonguing his slit. He heard Brew’s husky voice. “Talk to me. Let me know how. Tell me when.”

He grasped Brew’s head, showing him how fast to go. “Oh, shit, Brew, I want it. I feel it from both ends. Uhh, now, now.”

Chase began to spurt cum into his lover’s mouth. Brew let the water shoot up his butt at the same moment that his whole fucking asshole started to climax. He began to cry and sob, needing it, loving it, wanting it never to stop.

The next thing he knew, Brew was kissing and murmuring into his mouth. “Okay, okay, big guy. You were fucking great. So ready. I loved that.”

He took Brew by the shoulders and squeezed, hard. “Goddam you, Brew, I can’t take too many more like that.”

Bio:

Erin O’Quinn is my pen name for erotic M/F and M/M romances. I was born and raised in the high desert and mountains of Nevada. After attending the University of Southern California with a BA in English and an MA in Comparative  Lit, I became many things to many men: a college English teacher, a newspaper marketing guru, a car salesperson, a landscape/gardening professional, to name a few paths my life has taken.

I began writing in December of 2010, inspired in a sense by St. Patrick as I explained earlier. Now I have a backlist of 13 novels (all but three published). My husband Bil and I live in central Texas  with four curmudgeonly cats and two Mac computers.

Great interview. I just picked up Running Over Rainbows, and I'm looking forward to reading it. As for Chase and Brew, well they are a smoking hot couple, I truly enjoy them. I look forward to Erin's books when they come out, I would recommend them to anyone. She's got a variety for everyone's tastes.

To my lovely fans...

Thanks for your faith! It seems odd that a person who can whip up a YA coming-of-age can also write about two guys having shower sex. That's the mystery and magic of the writing gene, if you're born with it. I think my gene has a kind of wsarped DNA, but so be it.

Affectionate hugs to all,
Erin

Erin it amazes me how seamlessly you can cross genres - the chasm between YA and erotica is wide, yet you traverse it with ease - kudos to you!

I am over half finished with Running Over Rainbows, and I can definitely recommend it. It's sweet and fiercely descriptive, bringing me right where I want to be - in the thick of the story! But I have to say, I definitely cant towards novels like Hart to Heart - especially with the promise of a good mystery thrown in. Mmmm.... Shower sex. XD Diane, you have a wonderful blog, and thank you very much for hosting such an awesome author, so we can all get to see her incredible talent with our own eyes!

First to Sessha:

How kind you are to give me props, when you are such a master of erotica. I am a writer about love, I think, and it sometimes borders on erotica. I am who I am, and I appreciate your kind notice.

And Mo, to you:

I want to hire you as my publicist. Today. Oops, you say you need to be paid? Check back with me when I make any money at all being a writer. Hahahaha.

Thanks for your really generous response to my writing. xxErin

I enjoyed reading more about both of your 'personalities'. I don't know how you can write in so many genres, but it's amazing. :)

Great scene...it's very different from anything I've read before, and I found it interesting and HOT.
