VBT Stop with Terri Talley Venters & a Contest

Welcome to my Reading Nook, Terri Talley Venters. Please make yourself at home and let my cabana boys/girls get you a drink.

Comfortable? Wonderful. Now let’s get started.

What is your writing process? Do you outline, fly by the seat of your pants or a combination of both?
I’m a more of a panster. I have the big picture in mind and I jot my ideas down as I get them so I don’t forget. But more often than not, I have no idea what will happen in my story next when I sit down to write. But that’s usually when I’m most creative.
What did you do before you were a writer? Do you write full time?
I’m a CPA and I still have my day job.  I normally write on Thursdays and Fridays because I’m off from my day job. The boys are in school so I force myself to take advantage of the quiet time. On Thursdays and Fridays, I write 1,000-1,500 words a day. It’s not much, but a chapter or two per week equals one novel and a several short stories per year.

If you were going to cast the characters of your book, what actors would get the part?
Julia Stiles or Scarlett Johansson portrays my heroine, Lilly Allen. Matthew McConaughey or Bradley Cooper would play Grier Garrison. Eric Bana (with blue contacts) would play Joe. And Cybill Shepherd would play Lilly’s mother, Charlotte Allen.

I know you're not supposed to show favoritism but who's been your favorite character to write?
I love writing my heroine, Lilly Allen, because she’s younger version of me.

Do you have a favorite TV show you can't miss?
Survivor. I’ve watched every season since it started when I was pregnant with my firstborn son. He just turned 12 and now we watch it together along with my 10-year-old son.

If you could date any character from any book, which would it be and why-no it doesn't have to be from your books?
Rhett Butler from my favorite book and movie, Gone With The Wind.

Please share with us some juicy details about your latest release.
Carbon Copy contained a steamy sex scene. Unfortunately, it was deleted during editing. But I posted the deleted sex scene on my blog. http://www.territalleyventers.blogspot.com/2012/10/carbon-copy-deleted-sex-scene.html

What was your inspiration behind this book?
For years, people would tell me they knew someone who looked exactly like me. I’d respond, “I must’ve been cloned!” Then ideas for my story poured into my head, and Carbon Copy was born.
What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?
I’m currently reading book 2 of 5 in the Game of Thrones series. I’m also watching the HBO series after I read each book.

Do you listen to music while you write? If so what are your favorites Artists and or albums?
No, I like the quiet while my mind conjures what happens next.

If you could go any place in the world and to any time period, what place time would you choose to visit?
Disneyland when it first opened in 1955.

What is your favorite super power and why do you want it?
I’d love to have wings so I could fly.

If you could write a warning label for yourself as a person or an author, what would it say?
Warning! No telling what Terri’s mind could conjure up!

Do you have any guilty pleasures?
Dark Chocolate!

Carbon Copy

Lilly Allen has brains, beauty, and a trust fund. She's living in New York City and her career as a reporter is taking off. She's hoping the love of her life, Grier, will propose soon. She has it all, or so she thinks.

Grier Garrison, Create Life executive, is running the company while his father, Dr. Michael Garrison, is in the ICU awaiting a heart transplant. Grier knows the truth about Create Life and its shady side business. He fears Lilly and her twin brother, Luke, are in danger.

While working on two unrelated stories, stolen newborns and cloning, Lilly discovers a shocking connection. Horrific things are happening, but who is behind it all?

Teaser excerpt:

“Lilly Allen,” one of the wives said drawing Lilly’s attention away from Grier, “I feel like I know you from watching you on the news. My name is Sally, Sammy’s wife.”
“It is my pleasure to meet you, Sally.” Lilly shook her hand.
“I just love your show,” she said.
“Why, thank you.” Lilly smiled at the compliment and basked in the attention. She loved talking with her fans. Her ego inflated from this adoring fan.
“Do you have a sister or something?” she asked.
“No, but her twin brother here is going to start wearing a skirt to go with his feminine cocktails,” Grier said.
“Dude, I’m drinking beer. I only took one sip of Lilly’s drink.” Luke chugged his beer.
“Please ignore my two little boys.” Lilly gave Grier the evil eye before she turned back towards Sally, eager for the flattery to continue.
“When I visit my mother in Boca, I work out at this gym. I always see this girl who looks just like you only with short hair. When you were first on the news, I mistook her for you. Then I realized not only your accent sounded more Southern, your hair grew too fast,” Sally said.
“You know, an elderly gentleman told me—today as a matter of fact—he knew someone who looked like me. I must have been cloned or something.” Lilly laughed at her own joke. She found it intriguing, perhaps even downright creepy, to hear others knew somebody who looked just like her. But to hear it twice in the same day? Oy vey!
The rest of the table grew quiet as everyone else suddenly became interested in Sally and Lilly’s conversation.
“They say everyone has a twin out there somewhere.” Sally nodded towards Luke.

Each interview reveals a little bit more about you, Terri. :)

You know, I don't quite picture Cybill Shepherd as Lily's mom. Who would I pick? I don't know. Cybill just seems too brash. I like her, though. Scarlett Johansson, on the other hand, would be perfect for Lily. As hot as Matthew McConaughey is, I think he might be a little old for Grier. Hm... The challenge is finding blond leading men anymore.

Actor Jason Lewis is hot, but he's 41. :( <a href="http://siyanor.com/1137_Jason-Lewis-actor/#3>pic</a> Hard to say, really.
