A Special Free Read from Andrew Grey-A Tidbit of Love

You met Darryl and Billy in A Taste of Love, the first book in the Taste of Love series. Here is a free story from author Andrew Grey just for his readers....enjoy getting reacquainted with these wonderful characters.

“Billy I need you to work tonight,” Darryl said as his partner came into the kitchen of their restaurant.
“I will, but why?  We have plenty of people scheduled and I have an appointment this afternoon I can’t miss the boys are coming over,” Billy told him with a very disappointed expression.  “I suppose I could cancel, but what’s the problem?”
“Maria just called in.  Her kids have the flu and she needs to stay home.”  Darryl sighed, the joys of running a restaurant.
“I already knew that.  Sebastian is coming in tonight to fill in and I’m leaving in half an hour.  Robert has some sort of Bar Association thing and Sebastian wanted an excuse not to have to go.”  Billy gave him look like the two of them had cooked up the excuse together.  They were always cooking up something together and at times Darryl lived in fear of what they were going to come up with.
“All right. I should have known the two of you would have it covered.”
“Of course we did,” Billy quipped before giving him a quick kiss and then heading through the kitchen doors to the dining room. His life hadn’t been the same since the day he’d taken a chance and given a job to the little spitfire who’d now been his partner for almost four years.  Darryl went back to work and an hour later, Billy came in the kitchen taking off his uniform, getting ready to leave,  “Remember we have the boys tonight,”  Billy told him and Darryl nodded his head.  He’d already told him that.
“I know.  I have the evening off so we’re all good.  I’ll see you at home in a few hours.”  Darryl barely looked up from his work and called out the next orders that came in.
Two hours flew by fast and his relief came in, so Darryl made sure everything was ready and left the restaurant heading home. He was already tired and he loved Davey and Donny to bits, he was so tired and they always had so much energy, he wasn’t quite sure how he was going to make it through the evening without collapsing.
Darryl pulled open the front door and expected to step in chaos, but the house was quiet.  “Billy,” he called.
“I’m in here,” he heard from the kitchen in the back of the house.
“Where are the boys?”  Darryl asked as he stepped through the door and was surrounded by the scent of heaven.
“They’re at home,” Billy told him with a smile.  “Happy anniversary.”  Darryl stood completely stunned.  “Four years ago today you took pity on me and gave me a job at the restaurant.”
“And my life has never been the same,” Darryl said with a smile.
“I should hope not,” Billy said with mock indignation.  “It’s better than you ever dreamed and you know it.”  Billy squealed as Darryl slid his arms around Billy’s waist, pressing his chest to his back.
“Yes it is,” Darryl agreed.  “Better than I ever hoped.  Who would have thought giving someone else a job would give me the love of a lifetime.”  He sucked lightly on Billy’s ear for a few seconds before nuzzling Billy’s neck until the smells in the room had his stomach growling.  “What are you making?”
“I got a pork roast that’s in the oven and I made mashed potatoes with carrots and salad.  Nothing fancy, but just what you like.”  Billy squirmed against him.  “Maureen sent home some special dessert for later, or maybe after.”
“After what?” Darryl asked coyly.
“Dessert for after dessert,” Billy turned in Darryl’s embrace, sliding his arms around Darryl’s neck.  “Happy Anniversary.”
“Happy Anniversary Sweetheart.”  Darryl Kissed Billy passionately.  “Do you think we could have dessert first?”
Billy chuckled and took his hand, leading him toward the Kitchen door.  “Dinner still has forty five minutes.”

My Personal Review for A Helping of Love by Andrew Grey

When I first got Andrew's next book, I couldn't wait to see what magic this author delivers in his third Taste of Love story. What I got was so much more. In this review, I share a few personal items so please forgive me in advance.

My Rating for A Helping of Love: 5 Stars and a Recommended Read

Peter Christopoulos has been stuck in a wheelchair for the past three years and has worked hard to be independent. Meeting Russ Baker at a Cafe Belige has Peter excited but wary. He likes Russ but knows that many don't see the person in the chair. Peter knows all too well when he, in the past, he has asks out someone and gets turned down. So when the same thing happens to him with Russ, Peter just chalks it up to the wheelchair again and is determined to not let it get to him-well not too much anyways as he really enjoyed Russ's company.

Russ Baker has been hiding the bruises for the last few years from his boyfriend. He is pretty good at hiding the turmoil and heartache that dodge his every move but when friends finally speak up and support Russ, he finally finds the strength to leave the toxic relationship. But once he left, Russ worries no one will ever love him for him until Peter shows him that love is much sweeter when respect, compassion and desire are equal for both partners. Can Peter show Russ that to triumph over adversity is more than physical strength but also inner strength as well?

Andrew Grey's latest Taste of Love story hit me personally. I was in am abusive relationship and what Russ went through , I did as well. For me, Russ was the most relateable character I have ever read about lately and one that touched me deeply. I have been in Russ's shoes and know first hand how hard it is to leave the life you know, the relationship that has been your bedrock for so long. But the strength a person has inside them comes when you least expect it and when you desperately need it. The raw emotions a victim goes through can be overwhelming but luckily for Russ, he had a great support network of friends to help him when he was down or second guessing himself and the romance that flourished between Peter and Russ, firsts starts out as friendship and that is best foundation a relationship can have, in my opinion. The characters are well defined, each beautifully written and fleshed out that if I met them out on the streets now I would feel they were like family.

A Helping of Love also shares a few plot twists that had me going "Oh my" in spots that left me turning the page quickly to see what happened next. This is an author who lets his characters shines in whatever story they are in. You will laugh, cry, smile and sigh as you run the gauntlet of emotions as Russ finds his feet again and decides to  be the man he is destined to be as Peter watches on, cheering him all the way.

A Helping of Love is more than a guy meets guy, falls in love and lives happily ever after. It's about overcoming the odds, triumphing and finding the person you are meant to be, regardless of the obstacles life tosses at you. Mr. Grey does all that and more in his latest release and it's one I plan to get in paperback for my keeper shelf.

Way to go, Mr. Grey, in creating a story that shows the strength of the human spirit and how it can overcome adversity. I am eager to see if this author has another Taste of Love story coming soon.
