New Book Review: Trust No One by James Rollins

James Rollins delivers another tour de Force with his latest stand alone thriller steeped with history, science and a mystery that will leave you breathless.

My Rating for Trust No One by James Rollins: 4 Stars
Release Date: February 24th, 2026
Contemporary Mystery, Technothriller
Publisher: William Marrow
Available at Amazon US

Knowledge is power until it hits too close to home for five students who go on the run with a mystery to figure out while staying one step ahead from an ancient organization determined to own a centuries old book that will tear apart the fabric of what is humankind. What the Comte de Saint-Germain has written down may just change the fabric of humankind.

My Review of Trust No One:

TRUST NO ONE is James Rollins' latest & delightful stand alone title of 2026 that will leave you on the edge of your seat till the very end of the book. This is one of my ultimate favorite author as he is a master at blending history with science fiction and a contemporary setting that will suck the reader in and not let go until the last page is read. With each book of this author, I am drawn more and more into his storytelling that leaves me speechless after ach book I read. With a fast paced storyline, TRUST NO ONE introduces the reader to five students accused of murdering their professor and having to go on the run trying to stay ahead of an organization that is determined to get a centuries old book that was written by the mysterious 18th century Comte de Saint-Germain. The author is a masterful storyteller and one I highly recommend if you enjoy Douglas Preston & Clive Cussler books. Mr. Rollins will keep you up way past your bedtime with TRUST NO ONE and I for one loved every minute of the book.

We meet Sharyn Karr, an american studying at the University of Exeter and when her professor thrusts a book at her, declaring she mustn't trust anyone, she is thrust into a mystery filled with dangerous and deadly adviratry and more a mystery that spans centuries. She along with four other students of the history of witchcraft, folklore, and spiritualism go on the run trying to find allies even as their enemies come close to them repeatedly. I got to admit, the five MC's are different and took me awhile to warm up to them. I did like how the author delivers different personalities and made me worry for them as they raced across Europe trying to stay ahead of this dangerous cabal. I liked how multidimensional the characters were and the shocking last chapter had me on the edge of my seat. The story flowed smoothly after a slow start and introduction of the main characters. I liked how the author uses the settings as a perfect backdrop tot he fast paced storyline so the reader felt like they were there as well while reading TRUST NO ONE. The twists alone in the story had me breathless as they came out of nowhere and had me gasping.

If you enjoy any of James Rollins books before this one, then you will enjoy TRUST NO ONE. He delivers a wild and fraught filled ride with this latest book that I couldn't wait to see who this shadow organization was while learning more about this mysterious Comte de Saint-Germain as well. TRUST NO ONE is a pulse pounding ride from start to finish and I highly recommend this as well as his other books (Sigma series 1000%) for a wild ride that will take you to places you might never been to before.

New Release Book Review: Moonborn by ANNAIA ROWAN

Moonborn
Series: Book 1 of the Soulstar Saga
Fantasy Romantasy
Release Date: February 2nd, 2026
Amazon Buy Link HERE

My Rating for Moonborn: 3.5 Stars
I'm nothing more than property as that is all I am allowed to be for the last decade and the darkness rules Bronich. Magic is a whisper that could get you killed. Until I witnessed something that has me fleeing to the forgotten world of Rea as I try to stay alive. Here is where I thought I would be free except I am having dreams not my own, feeling things I am at a loss of feeling and secrets that are about myself that I need to know. I am done being powerless, nothing and am determined to discover my true self and the power that is mine.

My Review of Moonborn:

Moonborn is one heck of a ride from start to finish. With a main character that just screams for the reader to fall in love with, an intricate magic system and a world that is so unique and intriguing that I couldn't help but find myself flipping pages like mad to see what happens next. What didn't work for me was at times the worldbuilding became a bit stagnant and slow to reveal things. I like a fast paced storyline and there are gleams of it here that completely absorbed me but then I would be thrown out of the story as the pacing got bogged down on details the reader was told several pages or chapters ago. I can honestly say this isn't a lightweight read at all. It's got depth and can be dense at times. Moonborn is an interesting tale and one I am glad to check out as it hit a lot of my happy reading boxes.

Laina is a woman chained to servitude, powerless, invisible and just another one in the cog. The brutal and cruel world she is in comes across beautifully and the reader gets a sense of secrets that surround her. She is a wonderful FMC that delivers to me as a reader. She is complex and I found myself rooting for her by chapter three. I was really drawn to her story and the other characters introduced in this world are just as complex and unique as well. I liked how the author delivers such intriguing characters tot he reader but I have to cautiont hat this is light on romance but that could change in the next book(s).

Moonborn is a book that had some issues but overall, it hit most of my requirements for a romantasy that made me glad I got it. It was a fun and intriguing book that sets up the series nicely. If you  like Sarah J. Maas books, than you might enjoy this one.

Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the gifted eARC. #moonborn #thenerdfam

New Book Review: Make It Out Alive by Allison Brennan

Make It Out Alive
Series: Quinn and Costa Book 7
Thriller/Mystery, Crime Fiction
Hanover Square Press
Release Date: January 27th, 2026
Buy at Amazon

Three couples missing and then turning up dead in an exclusive resort has Kara and Matt undercover as danger looms for them.

My Rating for Make It Out Alive: 5 Stars and a Recommended Series.

My Review of Make It Out Alive:

Three couples disappeared from an exclusive Florida resort only to turn up dead a few days later. Is there a killer hunting the resort or is there something else going on? It takes Kara Quinn, Matt Costa and their FBI Mobile Response Team to figure out the clues and make sure that no other couple goes missing. When an undercover operation goes wrong, with Kara and Matt missing, the team races against the clock to find them as if they have anything to go on, they're going to run out of time fast. The FBI Response team is thrust in a deadly game of cat and mouse as they race to find their kidnapped colleagues & friends as danger bears down on them.

Wow is all I can say after devouring this wonderful twisty thrill ride from start to finish. Allison Brennan delivers a tour de force in MAKE IT OUT ALIVE and it delivers everything I love in a triller: complex characters, a fast paced storyline and a few twists I don't see coming. With each page in MAKE IT OUT ALIVE I was drawn further into the story and was racing alongside everyone to see where the killer(s) would lead us. The writing is top notch and I love this author's books. Allison Brennan doesn't disappoint especially as this is book six in the series. It feels fresh and exciting rather than weak and tired. I love how each book in the series is a different setting, different case and the characters grow with each book.

Kara and Matt are posing undercover as newly married couple as three couples have gone missing from an exclusive resort and Kara has similarities to the three women who went missing. I loved how the author keeps giving the readers interesting looks into each of the characters. They aren't a one note character, they have many layers and are each are unique. What I love about this author is how complex these characters are. They literally are so well written, they feel like they are going to jump off the page and into my living room with me. The secondary characters are just as interesting and multilayered as well. This is an author who knows how to create a masterpiece of a story filled with intriguing characters and so much more to engage the readers.

MAKE IT OUT ALIVE is one hell of a book and a perfect addition to the Quinn and Costa series. I highly recommend reading from the first book, The Third to Die as it gives the reader a chance to meet all the main characters in the FBI Mobile Response team. This is one of my favorite authors and I can not wait to see where she goes next for this series. I look forward to seeing what she has in store for them next.

Book Review: The Man Next Door by Sheila Roberts

Three Women find they're living next door to a fiction version of The Rear Window movie in Sheila Robert's The Man Next Door.

My Book Rating for The Man Next Door: 4 Stars and a Recommended Read.

Buy Sheila Robert's The Man Next Door at Amazon

Zona never thought she would be back living with her mom, Louise, but here she was, newly divorced and having no choice right now after her gambling addicted ex-husband lost her daughter's college fund and all their savings to boot. She's determined to put her daughter through college, every clipped coupon savings to boot.

Louise didn't have a broken leg on her bingo card on the single
s cruise she was looking forward to but at least there's eye candy next-door in the form a ahunky new neighbor who is around her daughter's age and a mystery that surrounds him and the house he lives in. When the woman he was having a screaming argument goes missing, imaginations fly or so Zona hopes for her mother's sake at least.

My Book Review for The Man Next Door:

Sheila Roberts delivers a fun take on the movie The Rear Window in her new book, The Man Next Door and it delivers all the fun aspects you expect with this author's books: a fun storyline with just the right amount of heat and mystery, a romance...maybe, meddling family and drama that seems to lurk int he shadows. I love this author's books as it gives me so much fun and laughter with her many different characters to fall in love with, a backdrop of unique settings that give her books a fresh feel to them and a fast paced storyline that leaves you eager for more with each page flipped. The writing is top notch with this author's classic storytelling on display within the pages of The Man Next Door and lots of fun characters to root for.

Meet Zona and Louise. A mother and daughter who have had life throw them curveballs one too many times and now Zona is back living with her mom, Louise, after divorcing her gambling addicted husband and Louise is laid low by a broken leg that happened on a much anticipated Senior Singles Cruise. When a new hot neighbor moves in next door, Louise is determined to see what she can find out ala the rear window and chaos happens when she spies on some incidents that may see suspicious to her but may have some real bening reasoning behind it. I love Louise Zona and Zona's daughter so much. These three generations of women had me cracking up and the emotional growth they all go on within The Man Next Door was a perfect blend of family drama, maturity and more. The characters are well written, multidimensional and you can't help but root for them till the very end of the book.

The Man Next Door is a fun and wildly entertaining story that takes the movie premise of The Rear Window and turns it on its head with a quirky bunch of characters, some wild imaginations and a true crime marathon that stokes those said imaginations into a fever pitch. If you haven't read one of these author's books before, I highly recommend The Man Next Door to get your imagination wet and fall in love with characters that will fairly have you laughing from page one to the very last page. I can't wait to see where this author goes next for her next book.

Publisher: Falstaff Books

Joe Mack has come into the present day and finds a past case that involved one of his long ago partners and Elliot Ness is back causing issues and deaths.

My Rating for Times Change: 4 Stars

Joe Mack has been around along time and when he was murdered long ago, an ancient Slavic God gave him abilities that help him reap justice, solve crimes and more through the centuries. A champion against dark entities, demons and more that haunt the human world in the shadows.

Joe Mack and his friends are going up against an evil that will do all it can to stay in our world, come hell or high-water. Get ready for Joe Mack and the gang is about to throw down with some allies that will either save the world yet again or cause it to fall.

My Review for Times Change:

TIMES CHANGE by Gail Z. Martin and Larry Martin is one fun time from start to finish. I love the Joe Mac Shadow Council Files as the first four books dealt from the 1920's to prohibition and now Joe Mack as stepped into the contemporary time that will see him facing more adversaries as well making allies and friends that will help him in his mission to wipe out the supernatural threats that are out there. The writing dup of Gail Z. Martin and Larry Martin deliver a fun ride with this new Joe Mack book that also has characters from some of Gail Z. Martin/Morgan Brice books that crossover so well in TIMES CHANGE. With each page, I was drawn into the world of Joe Mack again and seen through his eyes as he deals with past friends now gone, memories and paranormal baddies that just won't stay down for the count. The storyline is fast paced, with a few twists that kept me on the edge of my seat till the very end. I love the way the authors segway into the contemporary time with Joe Mack and how he is adjusting to it after being alive for so long. The characters are so well written that they just fly off the pages and into the living room to tell me their story themselves. I love how well-rounded they are and multifaceted. We see some new characters that bring a touch of fun and interest with Joe Mack that intrigue me and some characters from other series of the authors' that make me want to reread their books again.

TIMES CHANGE is a perfect story filled with paranormal creatures trying to cause havoc or peace within the human world. I loved how fresh this book was even after having the setting moving from the past to the present time. The authors do an amazing job in creating a story that gives us depth to Joe Mack and introduces the readers to other characters that have me eager for more. If I had one complaint is that it wasn't long enough. I would love to see how Joe Mack lost his initial partners and friends as well seeing the world as it changed so many times from his point of view.

Overall, TIMES CHANGE is a book that just wrapped me up and didn't let me leave till the last page was read. I am really hoping the authors continue this series as it's so much fun and gives you everything a reader wants in a story: compelling drama and tension, amazing characters and paranormal creatures and issues that are just fun to read. I highly recommend reading from the beginning with book 1, Cauldron and go from there. It's one of those quick reads that leave you wanting more.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement.

Book Review: Find my Daughter by Jennifer Chase #DetectiveKatieScottSeries

Find My Daughter by Jennifer Chase
Series: Detective Katie Scott, book 13
Thriller/Suspense, Crime Fiction
Amazon Buy Link HERE

My Rating for Find My Daughter: 5 Stars and a Series Recommendation.

When Detective Katie Scott is approached by a mother begging for help at Katie's conference and then dies moments after security takes her out of the conference room, Katie is intrigued, especially when she stumbles upon the mother dying in the parking garage with the chilling words: 'Find my daughter, find the million dollar man'. With Katie intrigued as she and her partner team dive into Annie Braxton and her family as time counts down. With more questions than answers, Katie and her partner, Det. Sean McGaven race against the clock as a killer has their eyes on Katie and MacGraven as they get closer to the truth. With danger looming, can Katie and Sean close this cold case/missing persons case even as another young adult goes missing?

MY REVIEW for Find My Daughter:

Oh my lord, Jennifer Chase delivers another nail biting addition in their Detective Katie Scott series that kept me on the edge of my seat. With an intriguing mystery, a diabolical killer ont he loose and more, this author delivers a tour de force with Find My Daughter. The story flows seamlessly as the reader is drawn into the story and gets invested in Katie trying to solve this case. With a few twists I so didn't see coming, Find My Daughter delivers a powerhouse of a story and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat till the very last page is read.

Meet Detective Katie Scott
. A military vet, she and her trusty dog, Cisco, are a unbeatable team. Add in her success at solving past cold cases, Katie and her partner, Sean McGaven are the duo to watch out for. She's tough, vulnerable and determined, perfect for dealing with cold cases where the trail goes cold the longer time goes by with no answers. I really love Katie's voice in this series. The author doesn't shy away from Katie's PTSD and how Cisco was her K-9 military dog she was able to bring home with her after she left the military. With intriguing secondary characters as well, the reader finds a cast of characters so unique and well written, complex and fairly jump off the pages of the books in the series.

Find My Daughter is more than a crime story/thriller, but one that also has humourous parts, relationships that weave through the pages with other characters and I can honestly attest I eagerly await book 14 coming in August, The whispering Girls. This series keeps me glued to the pages and I love revisiting the books in the series. This is an author who knows her characters inside and out and gives the readers some amazing characters to root for. I can't recommend this series as a whole enough to other readers. If police procedurals and crime fiction are your jam, then I highly recommend Jennifer Chase's Katie Scott series. I do caution that it's best to read this book from the beginning (Book 1 is Little Girls Sleeping) as the characters continue to grow with each book and in Find My Daughter, there are mentions of past books.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement

An utterly gripping, emotional and uplifting read about family secrets and second chances. Fans of Susanne O’Leary, Debbie Macomber and Mary Alice Monroe will absolutely adore this tear-jerker.

My Review:

My Grandmother's Secret was an interesting story and one that had a dual storyline which was interesting. This author did a great job in keeping both stories moving along in a fashion where the reader didn't get confused over whose voice and POV was talking within the story. This was the first time I read one of this author's books and I am looking forward to seeing what else of theirs will tickle my imagination.

It did take me awhile to warm up to Grace and her grandmother, Lily, initially. I kept at it as the story was intriguing but be prepared to shed a few tears at times. The way the author crafted intriguing and complex characters was interesting as well and the cast of characters was so different from one another that they kept my interest after chapter 2.

If you enjoy historical fiction/contemporary WWII stories, then you might want to try this one. My Grandmother's Secret was a complex storyline filled with a few twists I didn't see coming and a setting that just fairly jumped off the pages into my living room.

Book Review: Hank Phillippi Ryan's All This Could Be Yours

All This Could Be Yours by Hank Phillippi Ryan
Release Date: September 9th, 2025
Minotaur Books
Thriller/Mystery, Crime Contemporary Fiction
All Buy Links HERE

ALL THIS COULD BE YOURS by Hank Phillippi Ryan is a twisty, edge of your seat thriller that will keep you glued to the pages till the very end. I absolutely adored this book and it was definitely one I can see myself reading again over the lazy summer days when it comes out September 9th. The author has a way of creating amazing, intriguing characters that are so well written and complex they fairly brim with life and step off the pages of the book and into my living room. With each page of All This Could Be Yours, I was drawn deeper and deeper into this web of a mystery that snared me from page one.

Hank Phillippi Ryan is a master at book tension and she really delivers the goods in her latest book, All This Could Be Yours. Here we meet author Tess Calloway, who's on tour for her latest book and has someone watching her, stalking her and if that wasn't chilling enough, her past that she tried so hard to forget is starting to come back to haunt her in ways that will make the reader gasp in shock and worry what will happen next. This is a story with a several twists and turns I sure didn't see coming and an ending that led me to put the book down and go WOW! when I was all done with it.

All This Could Be Yours by Hank Phillippi Ryan is truly a masterpiece of a thriller, a story that will keep the reader glued to the pages for hours (like I was) forgetting about food, bathroom breaks and more as you flip the pages to see just what or who the stalker is and if Tess will finally face her past. I highly recommend All This Could Be Yours as this will be the perfect read as we go into Autumn.

Book Review: Dark In Death by J.D. Robb

Dark In Death by J.D. Robb
Thriller/Romantic Suspense/Police Procedurals
St. Martin Books
Available at Amazon

My Rating for Dark In Death by J.D. Robb: 5 Stars and Series Recommended Read

Lt. Eve Dallas has solved many cases in her career but her latest murder is one that has her on her toes as she surveys the scene of the latest murder in a theater showing old movies like Hitchcock's Psycho. With a serial killer on the loose dropping bodies with no reason, Eve is struggling to find her way into a killer's mind. With each passing day, she tries to figure out what motivates this killer as she and her team draws ever closer to a person so twisted, they took the murders right from a popular authors crime novels and making fiction a reality.

My Review for Dark In Death:

J.D. Robb is an autobuy author for me and in this installment in her beloved In Death Series, we find Lt. Eve Dallas standing over a dead body in a quiet movie theater showing the classic film Psycho. What makes this murder more strange isn't the fact the murder is twisted but it's taken fiction murder's to a whole new reality. With more bodies dropping in a weird ways, Eve is pressed to figure out who, what and when the killer will strike next even as she races to stop the killer. Ms. Robb delivers an amazing story that literally had me glued to the pages till the very end. A few twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat and I loved the way this author cleverly incorporates different story subplots within the main story. They lighten up the story at times while also showing a more human side to Eve and the gang.

In Dark In Death, we find Eve up against a killer who is literally taking murder scenes right from the pages of a popular book series. With each book Eve goes through, mre bodies drop. With a killer racing to finish their kill list, Eve will need everything at her disposal to bring this killer to justice all before another life is lost. I love, love, love this series and the characters just flow off the pages and into my living room each time I open one of these books. This is an author who is a master storyteller at keeping the reader engaged and flipping pages as quick as they can. With this being book 46 in the series, you would think the series would get old and stale but with each release, I am always amazed at how this author keeps the series fresh even as they have the characters grow within the pages. To me this is the work of a mast storyteller and one I know I am not the only one grateful for.

Dark In Death is full of twists and turns right fromt he beginning and as the climatic ending comes to the forefront, we see Eve and the team up against a twisted killer determined to get her due regardless of Eve, Peabody and the rest of her team's determination to stop her will stand in their way.  If you enjoy complex characters that are fun, well written and step off the pages of the book, then grab an In Death book but I highly recommend starting right from the beginning as there are mentions throughout the series of pasty books and characters. I know I am not the only one who is eager for more in the series everytime I finish one of these books.

Book Review: After Paris by Mary Ellen Taylor

One woman's discovers her dive into the mystery of a missing 1940's actress in German occupied France during WWII and finds more than she bargained for in the past as well as in the present.

After Paris by Mary Ellen Taylor
Montlake Publishing
May 13th, 2025
Contemporary WWII Historical Women's Fiction
Available at Amazon

My Rating for After Paris: 5 Stars and Recommended Read.

For Ruby Nevins, trying to live her life again after battling cancer has made it tough to move on but she's ready to start a new project and a new job. What she finds as she researches Cecile, the 'It' girl of early 1940's French cinema will astound her as well as deepen the mystery that surrounds Cecile. For surviving in Paris, France during the height of German occupancy n World War II gives Ruby something to figure out and as she is drawn deeper into the shadows during that time period, Ruby discovers more about herself as well the secrets behind Cecile and her mysterious dressmaker and confidant, Sylvia Rousseau.

My Review of After Paris:

Mary Ellen Taylor's new novel, After Paris, delves into a mystery of a french actress named Cecile who was the rising star of French Cinema during the early 1940's at a time when German occupied France was increasingly getting more and more hostile toward the citizens there. What drew me into the story was the dual timelines and how this author weaved a spell around me as I followed Ruby's journey as she dived into the mystery of Cecile and her dressmaker, Sylvia. This is the first time I read one of this author's books though I enjoy her other author names' (Mary Burton) suspense/thriller books a lot. I am a sucker for good compelling WWII historical fiction about strong women during a time period where you don't hear much about them. This was a phenomenal book about three very strong women that had me glued tot he pages on a lazy Sunday afternoon and I literally read the book till I finished it several hours later as I needed to find out what Ruby was discovering about these two interesting ladies. Mary Ellen Taylor is a master storyteller who delivers a wonderful story told in 2 time periods with captivating characters that kept me glued to the edge of my seat the entire time. The characters were well written, intriguing and complex. I loved Ruby's strength and feistiness, especially as she dealt with her brother's lack of romantic relationships. Those scenes made me laugh a few times.

After Paris is full of twists, turns and secrets of the past that will keep the reader glued to the very end. I loved Ruby's journey and as a cancer survivor myself, her journey after beating the dreaded big 'C' is just what this author describes: Wary determination with a fear of letting someone near you in case 'it happens again'. The author delivers a story that is at times respectful of Ruby's journey as well as shows her inner strength after her fight with cancer. I loved how the dual timelines interconnected at times and showed Ruby how to move forward even as she navigated 1940's Paris information. This is an author who is seamless in keeping the story flowing from past to present and back again. The way this author weaves these two timelines into the story is fantastic and delivers a one-two punch that the reader will enjoy.

After Paris is more than one or three women's journey but a testament of life, of strength during times of adversity and hope for a future. With each page, past and present times, Mary Ellen Taylor delivers a timeless tale that will leave you breathless and eager for more. This won't be the last book I read of Mary Ellen Taylor and I can't wait to see what else this author has in the future for her readers. If you're fans of Natasha Lester's historical fiction books, you'll want to pick After Paris up as well.

About the Author:

A southerner by birth, Mary Ellen Taylor’s love of her home state, Virginia, and its past is evident in her contemporary women's fiction, from her first The Union Street Bakery, set in Alexandria, to her latest, Spring House, which takes place on the state’s Eastern Shore. In Spring Cottage and prior novels, Mary Ellen’s protagonists search for their place in the world. They explore issues of family, home and belonging, and their stories entwine with those of the locales in which they unfold, encompassing mysteries past and present.

Richmond born, Mary Ellen has lived there most of her life. She grew up in a family that appreciates stories of all kinds, from a well-told anecdote to a good yarn or a tall tale. Perhaps it was inevitable that she would embrace her storytelling heritage, walk away from her marketing job and challenge herself to become a published author.

"I realized early on the tremendous power stories have to inspire laughter, love, sorrow and even fear. It didn't matter if they were found in the pages of a book, spoken in hushed tones around a campfire, or shared at an old-fashioned family reunion. Stories create connections, and I knew that was what I wanted to do," says Mary Ellen.

Alongside writing, cooking and baking are important creative outlets for Mary Ellen, who's been known to name recipes in honor of her characters. Just a few years ago, she earned her Baking and Pastry Arts Certificate at the University of Richmond's Culinary Arts Program. "In some ways, I liken baking to my efforts as a writer. You need to learn the basic tools of the trade before you can push the limits and create a distinctive sweet dessert or savory novel.”

Her two passions —writing and baking—merged for the first time in The Union Street Bakery. Since then, she's shared favorite recipes, connected to her books Sweet Expectations, At the Corner of King Street, The View from Prince Street, Winter Cottage and Spring House.

Mary Ellen is also known nationally as New York Times and USA Today bestselling suspense novelist Mary Burton. Together, they have published thirty-eight novels, with Mary Burton’s latest, I See You, debuting October 2019.

When not traveling or holed up writing, Mary Ellen spends time with her husband enjoying their empty nest and spoiling their miniature dachshunds, Buddy, Bella and Tiki.

When an artist is found dead, secrets start to be exposed as Lt. Eve Dallas and the NYPD Homicide dept. finds more than even they expected.

My Rating for Faithless In Death: 5 Stars and a Series Recommendation

When the scene of a lower East Side artist shows a crime of passion, it should be an open and shut case but when Lt. Eve Dallas of NYPD's Homicide dept. looks deeper, she finds things not like it should be. A 911 call from the Upper West Side, a hidden romance, secrets and when the truth comes out, it's much more than even Eve and her partner, Peabody thinks as it includes cults, craziness and a lot more than murder. Join Eve, Peabody, Roark and the rest of the NYPD Homicide unit as Eve races against the clock to find a killer and take down a group who just might be her toughest case yet.

My Review of Faithless In Death:

J.D. Robb (AKA Nora Roberts) delivers another stellar installment in her wildly acclaimed and totally addicting In Death series starring Lt. Eve Dallas of the NYPD in FAITHLESS IN DEATH and frankly, this book is one that delivers more than even I anticipated. Yes, it has the perquisite murder crime but as the reader gets into the story, the author begins to show the reader how much more is hidden within those first few pages. This is a series that's an autobuy for me. I preorder this author's books the minute they become available for preorder and I reread these books as they are my comfort go to reads when I am not sure what I am in the mood to read. J.D. Robb delivers stories that delve into the minds of killers, characters that fairly brim with life on those pages and become like family to the reader. I can't say how many nights I stayed u p to read into the wee hours of the morning because I couldn't wait to see where the characters will lead me. This is a series that is addicting on all levels for me as a reader and one I regularly recommend to people.

FAITHLESS IN DEATH is by far one of the more intricate and all consuming of a story for a reader like me. It has main characters that have grown within this 50+ series of books in a way the reader can't help but fall in love with. I know I am not the only reader who longs for an autochef and a Roark of their own.

In this book, we meet Gwen Huffman and the secrets she carries unravel the more Eve and the gang look into her background and past. Add in a cult disguised as a church, more victims that pop up and a bigger crime that blows the lid off more than even Eve ever thought. This is a story full of twists and turns and a few red herrings that even I, as a reader, fell for immediately. With each book in the series, this is an author who knows their characters intimately, lets them run with the story and delivers a tour de force with each book they write. The way this author tells a story is masterful and one I love to read. Ms. Robb is a true master in her craft and one I admire immensely. With each page in FAITHLESS IN DEATH, the author draws her readers in, giving them glimpses of the main players before springing a twist on them that has them scrambling to the point of falling off the couch just in surprise. I can't help but fall in love with this series books each and every time one comes out. With each new release I always think 'there's no way they can top the last book', and then they do.

FAITHLESS IN DEATH is an intricate story that is told in such a way by the author that the reader can not help but fall into the story, losing track of time as they flip the pages to see what happens next, to see where the clues will lead Eve and the gang even as they get closer to the killer(s) and solving the crime. As with all of this author's book, FAITHLESS IN DEATH delivers an ending that will satisfy you, the reader and make you want to reread this book again just to experience it all again.

If you haven't tried one of J.D. Robb's books before I do highly recommend starting with Naked In Death (Book 1) as it sets up the series and the main players in the series and I bet you that you'd fall in love with the series as well like millions of readers have done. I know I am not the only on who wants to see where this author goes next for the series because at 50+ books, the skies the limit on it.

My Rating for The Secret History of Audrey James is: 4 Stars

When Kate Mercer finds a job offer in the London paper, she takes a chance and hopes the change of scenery will help heal her broken heart and make sense of her past. But what she finds when she gets there is an elderly woman who owns the B&B has secrets of her own. For Kate and Audrey, finding out the truth of both women's past will lead to more than either of the women will know.

My Review:

THE SECRET HISTORY OF AUDREY JAMES is from a new-to-me author Heather Marshall and is filled with two storylines that will take the reader from 2010 to 1938 Germany at the start of World War II. The author does an amazing job in capturing the reader's imagination right from the first page. I was drawn into Kate's heartbreak and loss as well as her hope of a new beginning as she traveled too the border of Scotland. Audrey is a complex and intriguing character that held her own secrets that drew not just Kate in but also myself. It was an interesting way to capture the reader's attention and the way the author delves into Kate and Audrey's past was masterful in how it was entwined in the contemporary setting as well as the past. The story flowed swiftly and the author does an amazing job capturing the characters as well as the setting wonderfully within the pages of THE SECRET HISTORY OF AUDREY JAMES.

We meet Kate Mercer when she is dealing with loss and more at the beginning of the book. Her heartbreak comes over the first few pages so eloquently and you can't help but feel for her. When we meet Audrey James, she's a cranky old woman who doesn't want anyone there with ehr but you get a sense she needs kate just as much as Kate needs her as they settle in and get familiar with one another. I particularly enjoyed how these two women, young and old, adapt and eventually become friends. I found the characters very well written, complex and intriguing. The secondary characters are just as enjoyable and I loved the intersecting past storyline of Audrey as it connects to Kate's present day. The author knows how to weave a spell around her readers in this contemporary/historical fiction that will capture your heart and not let go.

The story doesn't get bogged down by details and the author does a great job in capturing both Audrey in her past self and her present self perfectly. I enjoyed seeing how the two storylines meded together in a cohesive storyline that kept me riveted till the very end of the book. If you enjoy dual storylines that have intriguing characters, historical ramifications and more, then don't hesitate to grab THE SECRET HISTORY OF AUDREY JAMES by Heather Marshall today. I am looking forward to seeing where the author goes next in their next book.

New Book Review: The Mademoiselle Alliance by Natasha Lester

Mademoiselle Alliance by Natasha Lester
Ballantine Books
Release Date: April 8th, 2025
Historical WWII Thriller Fiction
Buy at Amazon

A brave woman deals with life, love and heartbreak as she fights for France against the Nazis in a story that will leave you breathless.

My Rating for The Mademoiselle Alliance: 5 Stars and a Recommended Read.

Marie-Madeleine Meric is a wife and mother in 1928 in Morocco and finds that she is an asset to her husband in intelligence work but when she discovers the daredevil inside her, Marie-Madeleine is more than a woman but something that is waiting to let loose upon the world, a woman with an adventurous heart. In 1938, the world waits with bated breath as Europe sees what Hitler will do and where Marie-Madeleine now lives in Paris after her marriage is in shambles where she meets a spy that will change her life and lead her to something that will make the World War so perilous to the point where Marie-Madeleine will wonder if she has the strength to continue as the Nazis converge on her beloved France. This is her story as a woman who ran the largest spy network in France during a war that will save many lives while putting their own in crosshairs. Marie-Madeleine Merec Fourcade's story is one filled with loss, life, strength and heartbreak.

My Review for The Mademoiselle Alliance:

THE MADEMOISELLE ALLIANCE is a story filled with intriguing characters that fill the pages of the book that are both human and real. Natasha Lester is one of my favorite historical fiction authors to read and she always brings her subjects to life within her books. Marie-Madeleine Meric is a woman who when we are introduced to her, is newly married and is in Morocco, dabbling in intelligence to help her new husband in 1928. It's both exotic and intriguing to her and for the reader, you feel everything she is feeling and then some. Marie is a woman who finds her voice and purpose years later when she is back in Paris, her marriage in tatters, raising her kids alone. The author delivers a story full of highs and many lows at a time in history where you can't help but wonder how those who resisted the Nazis survived the way they did. The story flows smoothly, keeping the reader entertained and glued to the pages, with a bated breath to see what would happen next for Marie and the rest of her Alliance network.

When we meet Marie-Madeleine, we find a young woman who is finding her place ina world in flux. Natasha Lester does a really amazing job breathing life into a person who I never heard of nor of the risks she took with her resistance network that was the biggest in Europe. Everytime I read one of Ms. Lester's books, I find myself learning about these unsung heroes of WWII that time seemed to have forgotten. WWII was a time in history that, if you don't learn from, you are doomed to repeat it and in THE MADEMOISELLE ALLIANCE, we find many unsung heroes of this resistance network. From Marie to Leon Faye, her heart and second in command in the Alliance Network as well as so many others, it's amazing how they got information to the British for their attack on Normandy. Ms. Lester delivers a story that needed to be told, to let these heroes actions, words and deeds be known to a new generation of people who may not have known what these brave men, women and children did for France and yes, for the world in WWII France.

Natasha Lester has shined a light on a woman who is one of the many heroes of Word War II in France that made many daring deeds and had many losses within her life during the war but she also had a deep love for France and freedom so her children and many others can experience that once again. THE MADEMOISELLE ALLIANCE is a story with many highs, lots of lows and story that will keep you on the edge of your seat till the very end. I can honestly say this story was full of twists, turns and laughter and tears and an ending I so didn't see coming. This a story that needed to be told of a person who made history at a time when you never knew if you were going to live or die from the moment you woke up to when you slept that night. The brave men and women of the Resistance are the heroes alongside the military might of the Allies and these regular people fought for their country, their families and for freedom. If you haven't read one of this author's books before I highly recommend THE MADEMOISELLE ALLIANCE as your introduction into this author's writing and storytelling. Ms. Lester delivers a sweeping story that takes you from Morocco to France to England and beyond. With each book I have read from this author, I have learned of people who were just like you and me, regular folk who did amazing things at a time when those feats were needed desperately. I look forward to seeing where Ms. Lester goes next in her next book and hope I don't have a long wait to see where she goes next.

Book Review: Last Twilight in Paris by Pam Jenoff

One woman's past will battle with her present and future as she deals with her wartime activities and more.

Last Twilight in Paris by Pam Jenoff
WWII Historical Fiction
Park Row Books
Available at Amazon

My Rating for Last Twilight in Paris: 3.5 Stars

This is an objective review and not an endorsement

In 1953, Louise is trying to adjust to being a mom and wife in a world adjusting to the aftermath of World War II. When she stumbles across a necklace that seems familiar in a box labeled of a Paris department store one day at her job, she’s determined to find out what happened and maybe find the owner to return it. But it also may hold clues to the death of her friend during the war, Franny, as she still has questions about that death and the circumstances around it. Following the clues, Louise asks an old boss, Ian, for some help and finds herself tracing the dark history of LĂ©vitan as a Nazi prison and one woman named Helaine who was swept up in the Nazi raids after they invaded Paris. Louise races to figure out how Helaine, the Levitan and how it’s involved in Franny’s death. But as Louise will find out, sometimes the journey will be as important as the story she finds out. Danger mounts as she gets closer to the truth and some people are determined that it won’t get out.

 My Review:

LAST TWILIGHT IN PARIS begins after the war has ended and Louise is trying to adjust to life as a mom and wife even as she finds herself struggling to deal with her wartime activities and the loss of her friend, Franny. With each twist, Louise delves head long into the past as she tries to find answers of the necklace, what Franny’s death has to do with it and the little-known history behind the department store, Levitan’s use as being a Nazi prison for Jewish prisoners. This was one book that sounded interesting and at times was really good, but it dragged in several spots within the story. I really enjoyed seeing how Louise’s past work at the Red Cross during the war and what happened to her at that time. What I really enjoyed was seeing this little-known aspect of World War II that I didn’t know about. The writing is fast, and the storytelling is very well done. The area I struggled with was Louse’s interactions with her old boss, Ian, in the present time and I really didn’t connect all the way with her as a character at times. It took me several days to get through this book as I kept getting tossed out of the story with the aspects of Louise and Ian’s substory within LAST TWILIGHT IN PARIS.

Pam Jenoff delivers a story about the aftermath of World War II and the Nazi’s despicable pattern of stealing possessions from the Jewish people they were imprisoning and killing among others. I highly enjoyed Helaine’s story as the dual storylines played out within the pages of LAST TWILIGHT IN PARIS. There was a hint of mystery, interesting actions from Louise & Helaine’s lives that captivated me. If you haven’t read one of Pam Jenoff’s books before, you might want to try this one. I look forward to seeing what this author delves into next for her readers.
