Setting out on your own is tough, but for Mason Fullerton, who was born blind, it’s even more of a challenge. Mase decides that the key to independence and a life of his own is getting a job. His mother, who has always been there for support, isn’t so sure, but Mase is determined. He manages to secure an interview, and one of the men conducting it has a voice that wraps around him like a blanket.

Tyrone Phillips feels he’s a disappointment to his accomplished academic parents. They don’t understand that Ty would rather spend time with his computers and programs than people. Until he meets Mason at an interview and finds a kindred spirit. Too bad his parents aren’t going to see past the fact that Mason’s white.

When Mason is hired, Ty is assigned to help him get oriented. The two of them dance around each other, but mutual attraction tugs at both of them. A work friendship builds to more, with Ty and Mase trying to find their way… and if they have courage and allow their hearts to guide them, they could be going the same direction.

Talking with author Andrew Grey

Tell us about your latest book, who is the main character(s) and what can we expect when we pick it up?  Mase is the main character , he’s blind, and he’s trying make his own way in the world.

Give us an out of context quote from your book to warm our hearts:

Mase inhaled again. “Oh, you’re black,” he said, and took another bite.

Ty stilled. “Is that a problem?” he asked, his defenses rising.

Mase smiled and then began to laugh. “Of course not. Everyone is black to me.” He set down his sandwich, waving his hand in front of his face. “And for the record, I like the scent. It smells good.”

Ty was a little taken aback for a second and then he found himself chuckling along with Mase. The guy had a real sense of humor, and he liked that. There didn’t seem to be any prejudgment in him.

“I tend to judge people by different standards, I guess.”

“Like what?” Ty asked.

“Like their scent or their voice,”

Who are some authors that you look for inspiration?    I love Amy Lane and  I read her lighter stories to lift my spirits.    I do need to give a shout out to Christi Barth, she heled inspire the Bad to be Good stories.

Fire down below! What’s the first object you save?  My laptop, definitely.  I think I’d go crazy without it.

Advice for newly sparking writers in three sentences or less:  Write what you’re passionate about.  That passion and feeling with shine through to your reader.

Which of your characters would you want to share a campfire with, and why?  I would love to share a campfire with Geoff Laughton.  He’s a good man, interesting, and I like to think he’s the one character most like me.

Tell us about what you are reading at the moment or anticipate reading in the future? Any new books you are looking forward to?  I am rereading a story by Eden Winters, called Duet.  It always makes me cry

Can you briefly describe your writing process for us?  I’m very much a pantser.  I start at the beginning of the story and write my way through.

What is next on your writerly horizon?  I am working to finish the work on a Christmas story for December called Rudolph the Rescue Jack Russell.
