Tell us about your latest book, who is the main character(s) and what can we expect when we pick it up?
This is the story of a
police officer and a guy down on his luck who just wants to make sure his son
has a better chance than he did.
Give us an out of
context quote from your book to warm our hearts:
Quinton sighed and left the room. He put
Callum in his new white crib in the corner of his bedroom and grabbed a towel
to wipe his eyes. Shit, he didn’t cry. At least he hadn’t in years. Not even
when the police had tried to scare the hell out of him the last time he’d been
taken into custody just before he’d turned eighteen. The boy he’d been arrested
for shoplifting with had wept like a girl, but not him. Quinton had determined
a long time ago that showing weakness was the easiest way to get hurt. Bury
your emotions and come out fighting. It was better to go down that way than in
a pool of weakness. Still, at this moment, the thought of losing Callum when he
had the chance to do right by his son was too much to take.
Who are some authors
that you look for inspiration? I have
gotten inspiration from other authors.
The prologue of one of Christi Barth’s books inspired the Bad to be Good
series. Mostly I let the world around me
serve as my inspiration.
Fire down below!
What’s the first object you save? A
family painting above the fireplace. Its
of an ancestor and has been in the family over 200 years.
Advice for newly
sparking writers in three sentences or less:
Follow your passions and don’t hold back in your writing. Let what you feel come through, that will be
evident to the reader.
Which of your
characters would you want to share a campfire with, and why? There are so many. Geoff, Bull, Eli, Red, Richard from Bad to be
Good, and Wyatt from Fire and Sand.
Tell us about what you
are reading at the moment or anticipate reading in the future? I am reading The
House of God for research for a new series with medical residents.
Are there any new
books you are looking forward to reading in the future? I will be reading Any Lane’s Long Con books
just as soon as I catch up on a few other things.
Can you briefly
describe your writing process for us? I
tend to be a pantser, so I start with an idea or a character and write the book
from beginning to end. I know where I
want the book to go and from there I let the story take me.
What is next on your
writerly horizon? I just signed a
contract with Harlequin for a story to be released in October 2023. And I am working on a number of other
projects. We’ll see what happens.
How long did it take
you to get your rough draft finished on your latest release? About a month. After that it was reviewed and reworked and
edited.
If zombies attacked,
what kind of supplies would you want?
Books, chocolate and a really strong lock to bar the door.
What was the hardest
part of writing your book(s)? For Fire
and Sand, it was coming up with the initial idea. I wanted the book to be fresh and fun. Once I had that and had done my research, the
rest was getting by butt in the chair.
