About My Story, Stranded on Grzbt

I’m  not sure why  I haven’t developed a Star Wars inspired universe for scifi romance until now. I always loved the movies and books. Right away I decided my story for  the anthology would have a cute alien animal, and from there a many-alien-universe blossomed!

My Pet Velvet, More than Cute!

In Stranded on Grzbt, my  heroine Mimi meets a tiny alien animal and befriends her. The Earth women captives are frightened, powerless, and grieving. They have been captured by aliens, not hunky nice ones longing for love. Their captors are stinky green worms who keep them in a cage. Cuddly little Velvet becomes a tiny spot of comfort in a difficult situation.

Mimi eventually learns mouse sized, trunk-nosed nanosnoots were originally lab created to help with invasive nanobot infections. They have computer knowledge and some kind of telepathic connections. Over the years, one crazy genius scientist or another has enhanced their abilities, and those talents have spread through the nanosnoot population.

Even I, the author, am not sure about nanosnoots capabilities.  I look forward to finding out more about them. I do know my Earth women owe Velvet a lot. Mimi and her alien trader Kyre wouldn’t have gotten very far without her.

Excerpt: Meeting Velvet

In the bathroom one day, Mimi took her time under the water drip, washing out her clothes. The worms were asleep.

A flicker of motion caught her eye.

A tiny animal with green and purple fuzz was eating the scum on the grate.

It was actually kind of cute. Plush, silvery sage-green hair, a mousy six-legged body, and a long trunk, like a tiny elephant. On top of its head was a clump of green bristles tipped in purple. Three black button eyes, the center eye larger, looked up at her.

“Hi little guy. Aren’t you cute? Are you friendly?”

Mimi had put on just her green work shirt, the rest of her clothes were wet. In the pocket, which had her nametag still attached, were a few kibbles. She crunched one up with her fingernails and slowly sprinkled the kibble bits on the damp grating near the little animal.

It withdrew quickly into the drain. Mimi stayed quiet. Soon the tiny trunk came out and vacuumed up the kibble.

Mimi grinned. Maybe she could make a tiny alien friend.

About Melisse Aires

Take a bookworm. Hand her a stack of her much older brother’s Sci-fi and fantasy novels, thrillers and horror comics. Then introduce the world of romance.

Make her a jinx. Every great genre TV show she loves gets the ax! So often the romances have no happy ending. She gets upset about no romance in the world and writes her own stories with happy endings.

Throw this all together, shake constantly, and pour onto a computer keyboard.

There!

You have me,
