Guest Author Day with Renee Wildes

Please give a warm welcome to Pryseis from A Guardian’s Dream by Renee Wildes today as we sit down and see what makes him/her tick.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not saving (the world, clients, your mate)?
I love staring up at the star-lit sky at night and recite the stories of the constellations I see.

What is it about your love interest (Benilo ta Myran – elven spirit healer) that makes you crazy in a good way? The way he can see into my soul and see all my weaknesses and still call them strengths. The guy never knows when to quit—he’ll tackle any problem, with whatever resources he has at hand.

Do you sometimes want to strangle your writer? Thrash her to within an inch of her life? Make her do the stupid crap she makes you do? I’d drag her into a dark, wet cave and have her crawl through the mud with bugs and… Oh wait, she has. And she thinks it FUN! My bad… Okay, I’d make her challenge the powers that be making her life a misery and… curd, she’s sone that too. We are just too much alike sometimes. *sigh*

What's your Favorite food?
Total vegetarian here, unlike my half-troll nephew Dax. I love salads, esp. with fiddleheads or new blossoms and fresh berries. I can take or leave mushrooms.

Tell me a little bit about your world. What are your greatest challenges in that world?
There is so much animosity and tension in the world. Too many people are so quick to judge and think the worst of someone else. Too many people are willing to let things lie because that’s the way it’s always been. Sound familiar? I try to focus on the individual rather than groups. Renee calls it psychology over sociology. I call it person over clan, over nation.

Describe yourself in four words. Compassionate, open-minded, stubborn, tempermental

What do you do for a living? Dream faerie—I work with wish faeries, hope faeries, and fellow dream faeries to spin spirit webs at night to filter out negative thoughts and images from people when they sleep. But one goblin lad’s nightmares escaped our nets and were drawn to me. I had to intervene before they manifest into the physical world.

What do you fear the most? Isolation—the faerie council threatened me with analahamme, complete ostracism from everyone, if I disregard their orders to stay home. I must live here because of the pool of water, called Mother’s Tears, I need to drink to stay immortal, but I would be like a ghost in my own community.

A Guardian's Dream
Guardians of  Light Series, Book 4

GENRE: Fantasy Romance
Champagne Books

TAGLINE:
Without his forbidden touch, her light will disappear forever.

BLURB:
Plagued with nightmares of a goblin child tormented by monsters—and with her usual cures having no effect—dream faerie Pryseis journeys to the Shadowlands to heal the child in person even though doing so risks the wrath of the faerie council. And, if she’s away from home too long, her very existence.
Caught and imprisoned by an ungrateful goblin sorcerer, she’s now trapped underground, chained, her despair growing as her time ticks down yet warmed by the memory of a man she has only touched in dreams.
Benilo ta Myran drained his spirit healing powers during the war, but he has no choice. The beautiful faerie in his dreams is in trouble, and not even his worried king and queen can stop him from trying to save her before the darkness snuffs out her light.
Finally they are together—chained side-by-side in a goblin dungeon. Their only hope for escape is to break the law to merge their powers in a ritual so intensely erotic it binds them for life. However short and nightmarish that life might be…
Warning: Beware beautiful faeries and hot elves appearing in your dreams. They may lead you astray…and steal your heart.

EXCERPT:

Pryseis engaged each council member’s gaze in turn. “I think ’tis what you all believe. Why you don’t mingle with the world. You hold the world at a distance. If you recognize this child as an individual, were motivated to help him, then you must help his neighbor, his rival, his enemy. If you help goblins, then you must also help trolls. They’d be equals, not servants. What of your faerie superiority then?” Pryseis wavered between contempt and disappointment. “I don’t know whether your denial is naïveté or callous disregard. I pity your hearts are so blind.”
“Don’t call us blind by parading your delusions afore us. You and you alone can help him?” Maeve’s lips thinned. “What is it with your kin? Rebels all. ’Tis not how we do things. We can’t afford to trade one soul for many. We haven’t the strength to go one-on-one with all in need. Compromise is what’s kept us going this long. We lose a battle to win the war.”
“Don’t go,” Hallar begged. “’Tis dangerous. Stay here where ’tis safe.”
“Safe for how long?” Pryseis asked. “How long before the goblins unite and storm the mountain? What if our trolls can’t hold them back? If we die, what happens to the world then?”
Tauni appeared uncertain. Hallar tugged at a shimmering strand of iridescent hair and gulped.
“This lad’s no battle. I think he may be the war. ’Tis different this time. You can’t sense the menace lurking behind his fear. The one way we’re safe is for war to end. Who knows? Helping one lad could move his kin, his people to gratitude. One act of compassion to show a better way.”
“See yourself a martyr, Sister?” Maeve asked with silky venom. She picked up her goblet of wine and leaned back in her chair. “The great savior of all?”
“Nay. I’m but a simple faerie who’s no longer content to sit by, spinning webs, while the world below destroys itself by war. I can’t watch elves and dwarves and goblins slaughter each other in countless battles. I can’t ignore a sobbing lad in the dark, haunted and begging for help I can provide. If I’ve the power to help, then I’ve the responsibility to help.”
Maeve straightened. “If you leave, don’t come back.”

About the author

Renee Wildes grew up reading fantasy authors Terry Brooks and Mercedes Lackey and is a huge Joseph Campbell fan, so the minute she discovered romance novels it became inevitable that she would combine it all and write fantasy romance. Renee is a history buff and research junkie, from ancient to medieval times, esp. the Dark Ages. As a Navy brat and a cop’s kid, she gravitated to protector/guardian heroes and heroines. She’s had horses her whole life, so became the only vet tech in a family of nurses. It all comes together in her Guardians of Light series – fantasy, action, romance, heroics, and lots of critters!

Thanks so much for hanging out with Renee and me today! Lovely place you have here, Dawn. I just wanted to share with everyone that if you like meeting my nephew Dax in THIS tale of the mess I got myself into, you'll love knowing he's the star of his own disaster in Book Six, which Renee is calling A Guardian Betrayed. (Even the title makes me want to scream "It wasn't his fault!") ~ Pryseis
