State Park Rangers Simon Ribault and Ellie Ironstone are used to dealing with messy campers and ravaging raccoons, but when three bodies wash up on the beach, they mobilize all their powers of deduction. Who are they and how did they get to the shore of Amelia Island? Are they connected to the secretive League of the Green Cross? Or linked to a mysterious Jamaican drug ring?
Ellie, new to Amelia Island, must penetrate a close-knit community if she wants to find answers to the mystery, all while deciding between two rivals for her affection: Thad, the handsome local idol, and Simon, the clever, quirky bookworm.
Simon, for his part, will have to call on his not-so-well-honed romantic prowess to lure Ellie away from Thad and at the same time use his wide-ranging research skills to solve the case.

Excerpt: Making Up…With Help from Your Friends
“Rosie and the new girl are here. And Ellie’s coming in.” He paused. “You want me to give her a message?”
“No!” He slammed out the door and fumed all the way home. “God damned small town. I’m tired of this. I’ll do what I want. When I want to.” A car passed him. Ellie. His mood darkened. She said she didn’t want to marry me. So why don’t they pick on her? Why don’t they explain to her how she feels about me? Huh? A little voice that sounded a lot like Georgia whispered in his ear. “She’s waiting for you, you jackass.”
After that, it was hard to concentrate.
Three hours later, he set down his pen. “I give up.” Someone knocked. He went to the screen door. “Ellie!”
She came in, a rather dazed expression on her face. “Hosea told me to come find you.”
“What for?”
“He didn’t say. He just said to find you. And here you are.”
“Here I am.”
They stood a few feet apart, gazing into each other’s eyes. Ellie shrugged. Simon took that as an invitation, leapt the short distance, and took her in his arms. A fairly long, wet kiss ensued, involving a lot of tasting and cooing with a little moaning thrown in.
She broke away first. “Simon?”
“Ellie?”
“I…uh…heard about the alley.”
“Oh.” She’s going to laugh at me. Saved by an old man and a slip of a girl. So what if that girl has a black belt in karate?
“You were so brave. Standing up to the mob like that. I”—her eyes dropped—“I didn’t think you…well, you’re so bookish…that you could…well, I’m so proud of you.”
“But I…I…Santa…”
Shh. Come with me.” She took his hand and led him upstairs, neatly avoiding the piles of papers as well as the half-empty water glass.
The rest of the evening played out just as Georgia had planned.
