A Good Year
There's No Heaven....Like Hell
Faced with losing Pandora Productions as well as her best friend Rebecca to the smarmy Paul, savvy film executive Debbie makes a pact with the demon Shaker, agreeing to bind herself to him as his human master in return for killing Paul. When the intended coup goes amiss, resulting in the deaths of both Rebecca and Paul, Debbie finds herself alone at Pandora’s helm, facing a rising tide of corporate enemies led by Paul’s duplicitous son Dante and the behemoth Titan Pictures. Shaker’s backing smoothes the way, solving some problems supernaturally, others through brutal bloodshed, even as he calls into play various preternatural and human allies to assist Debbie.
As the months pass, Debbie’s strong resolve begins to crumble under the weight of her actions, even as she guiltily concedes the pleasure she finds in Shaker’s arms is becoming something more than just affection. Is there hope for a happy ending built on so much evil? Or is Debbie doomed to lose her heart as well as her soul to a demon who has only been waiting for the chance to claim both?
It takes talent on the part of an author to get me rooting for someone who's decidedly not a 'good person'. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I would recommend to anyone who likes something a little different in the way of paranormal romance and would enjoy a more mature heroine. Five Stars.

Easter Eggs in A Good Year

Many movies have Bonus Material that is included along with deleted scenes called Easter Eggs. As the focus of A Good Year was films, I included several famous lines in the novel as a homage to film dialogue:
·         “Don’t you know better than to open boxes?”  This is less a quote, and more Shaker’s dark pun to Debbie regarding the company name Pandora, the Greek woman who supposedly opened a box and set loose all the plagues of the world on humanity.
·         “Tomorrow is another day.” The only direct quote referencing a movie (Gone with the Wind), Debbie says it first to Sheila, then a bit later Shaker repeats it to Debbie, a slight clue for those watching closely that he’s privy to everything via their telepathic connection from the first.
·         “Why are you helping me?” Debbie asks this of Henry repeatedly with him avoiding the question, and the answer is he’s enamored of her. This was a nod to Braveheart, where William Wallace aka Mel Gibson also asked the English princess the same question, and she avoided answering, for the exact same reason.
·         “You are my number one gal.” Debbie says this to Sheila at Halloween, as she’s dressed as the Joker, quoting a line used several times from the first Batman by both Jack Nicholson and Jack Palance (although they both said guy, as they were speaking to males). The line was reserved for their own second in command, as Sheila is to Debbie.
·         “You American females, you’re all the same. Always overeager to see a fistfight for your favors.”  Shaker says this to Debbie, but it’s a nod to Raiders of the Lost Ark, where the Nazi torturer tells Maryanne that Americans are all the same, always overdressing for the wrong occasions.
·         Our fearless leader’s turned human jock.” This is a reference to Grease, where Travola at the end is wearing his track sweater, and one of his T-birds says a similar line, for a similar reason.

There are other references as well to classic movies. Enjoy!
