Book Spotlight & Giveaway~ The Bachelor Auction

THE BACHELOR AUCTION by Rachel Van Dyken (January 31, 2017; Forever Mass Market Paperback; $7.99; The Bachelors of Arizona Book 1)

The first book in an all-new contemporary romance series from #1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken.

Cinderella never had to deal with this crap.

Jane isn't entirely sure that Cinderella got such a raw deal. Sure, she had a rough start, but didn't she eventually land a prince and a happily-ever-after? Meanwhile, Jane is busy waiting on her demanding, entitled sisters, running her cleaning business, and . . . yep, not a prince in sight. Until a party and a broken shoe incident leave Jane wondering if princes---or at least, a certain deliciously hunky billionaire---maybe do exist.

Except Brock Wellington isn't anyone's dream guy. Hell, a prince would never agree to be auctioned off in marriage to the highest bidder. Or act like an arrogant jerk---even if it was just a façade. Now, as Brock is waiting for the auction chopping block, he figures it's karmic retribution that he's tempted by a sexy, sassy woman he can't have. But while they can't have a fairy-tale ending, maybe they can indulge in a little bit of fantasy . . .

Book Review- The Lost Girls by Allison Brennan

FBI Agent Lucy Kincaid is back and this time the stakes are even higher as she and her fellow FBI agents track down two lost girls and stumble upon a horrific human trafficking ring.

My Rating for The Lost Girls: 4 Stars

For photojournalist Siobhan Walsh, these last two years of searching for her friends who went missing was fraught with false leads and trails. That is until a baby shows up at a church with a locket she gave the girls long ago. Calling on her friends at the FBI, she joins FBI agent Lucy Kincaid and Supervisory Special Agent Noah Armstrong as they race to track the girls and in the process uncover a human-trafficking organization that isn’t all as it seems. The bad guys seem to always be one step ahead of them as bodies begin to turn up all over the place.

Then Lucy’s fiancé Sean Rogan finds an ex-girlfriend on his doorstep with a shocking claim- he has a son and now the son and her husband are missing in Mexico. Sean hates to leave Lucy, especially as this case seems to more horrific as hours go by but he can’t leave his son in danger. But when Sean makes an impossible choice, the consequences might just torpedo his relationship with Lucy and all that the holds dear.

Allison Brennan is a master at writing taut thrillers with twists that shake the characters worlds and the readers themselves. I fell in love with her Lucy Kincaid series right from the start and frankly, THE LOST GIRLS takes it to a whole new level and then some. With tight storytelling and with characters the readers have frown to love along with a few new ones to enjoy, this latest installment picks up right after the events from book ten, No Good Deed. With her trademark style of writing, this author delivers a story that will leave you on the edge of your seat as you reel from the twists and turns in the story.

THE LOST GIRLS centers on Siobhan Walsh and her search for her two friends who went missing two years before. Now she has a lead on them, she is determined to rescue them from where ever they are.  Enter FBI agents Lucy Kincaid and Noah Armstrong. This case has drawn their attention and as they race against the clock to find the girls, they stumble upon a human-trafficking ring that is not as it seems. I absolutely adore Lucy, Noah and all the rest of the characters in this series. We met Siobhan in past books and I was thrilled to see her and Sean’s brother Kane back in the forefront of the story again. The chemistry between Kane and Siobhan is electric and I loved seeing these two dances around one another. The relationship Lucy has with her peers and with Sean is quite intriguing as well. Lucy has darkness inside her from past events and she uses it for her job as an FBI agent. With Sean she is a bit looser and freer than before. Their relationship gets hit with a secret from Sean’s past that will either tear them apart or bring them closer together. The connection between Lucy, Sean and others is the backbone of this series in my opinion. Lucy is driven to succeed in her chosen field, determined to get past the horrific events that put her on the path to the FBI years before and she uses that darkness of that time to help her do her job, to get into the heads of the bad guys. The author does a marvelous job in capturing Lucy’s determination and drive, her growth in the series and shows the reader just how far this character has come since we first met her in the first book, Silenced. The characters are well written, life-like and full of nuances as well as vulnerabilities that come over the pages of the book perfectly.

THE LOST GIRLS can be read if you haven’t read the other books in the series but I highly recommend you read it from the beginning as it gives great insight to Lucy’s past and the many different characters that pop up within the series periodically. What I love about this author is how life-like and real her books and characters are. There is a lot of research involved and it brings greater depth to the story. I am eager to see where Lucy and Sean go next in the series with Make Them Pay (out in March 2017). It looks to be another explosive case for Lucy and the FBI to deal with.

If you enjoy an edge of your seat thriller that will leave you breathless then grab the latest in the Lucy Kincaid series, THE LOST GIRLS, and settle in for some major reading enjoyment.

WRITERS WRITE... WRITING PARTNERS FEUD ~ Excerpt: Horrific Memory Regression

An excerpt from a work in progress, a three book serial, THE DARKNESS WITHIN.

Horrific Memory regression of Brie Tyler:

I had momentarily passed out and when I woke, I was being carried over a beefy shoulder. I immediately struggled. One of Markus’ men threw me to the ground and pummeled with fierce kicks and a few punches. When all resistance fled, he tossed my battered body back over his shoulder, ignoring groans at every one of his footfalls.

Markus never uttered a word.

Not a curse.

Not an order.

Markus, who led the way, stopped to watch the beating with the same dispassion with which he had watched his brother fall.

Moonbeams cascaded in eerie patterns over the woodland path. Our path. The one Dask had carried me kicking and laughing just an hour before.

My world shattered so easily. Why?

I cried  at the thought of Dask lying there. Was he dead? Was he? No, I said to myself. Stop thinking of that.

But... but...There had been blood. So much blood. It scare me. I just stood and stared. So much blood. He stared back. But those eyes didn't move. Was it a death stare? Was it? Didn’t matter. Why? That horrible look will haunt me forever.

No! Not here! It was where Dask and I were wed.

No! Not my family.

No! Not that! They were on a rampage. So much destruction. They kicked over the banquet table. All the food was on the ground. Dirty. Stomped. Kicked. So many screams.

No! Not fire! That was my family's trailer.

No! Not me! I was dropped. Felt a rib crack. I bit off my scream. He did not deserve that satisfaction

Where’s my family? My call was a cracked tone.

Markus pointed.

A cold point.

At first toward me. I shook.

Then it happened. I shouted, No! But it was lost in the night.

Was this real? Who could... how could they?

My kumpania was slaughtered.

Mice against feral cats. So unfair.

Machine guns. Burping. Shot after cold shot.

They were forced to their knees and killed.

The blood splattered.

Arms and legs twisted together.

Blood marred my clan's faces, clothes and nearby shrubs and twigs.

So much blood.

More blood darkened the earth. It seeped from the morbid pile of corpses.

I knew them all.

Loved them.

Mama, I whispered, trying to find her beloved face among the dead. Horrified I'd might. Relieved I didn't.

The relief didn’t last as Markus pointed once again.

Reluctantly, I traveled his finger.

No! The sharp claws of the cat of my soul ripped from the inside out. My mother’s grotesque, limp body dangled from her wrists off a tree branch.

What pain.

Her throat had been slit.

When? After she  endured immeasurable pain.

Horror bled my soul. I saw blood still trickling from her mouth. No!

More blood from her eyes. Where were her eyes?

Bastards! They ripped them out.

The thought of, I'll kill you all, covered my fear-pimpled skin.

She was whipped. Cut. Lacerated.

Oh no, they took her pinkies. Why?

I'll kill them all!

The hell with my rib. I crawled crying. Mama! I reached to her dangling flesh. Mama! Gone were her laughs. Gone her smiles. Gone the warmth of her hugs. Mama! I love you.

Bastards, why?

She was an old woman.

Why torture her?

Tell me!

She wouldn’t tell us where you went, Markus said.

That's your reason? I yelled.

Markus smirked. I remembered the trailer. By then she had eaten all this pain. Shame!

I struggled. Rose. Wrapped my mother's legs in my arms. I love you. I kissed them. Tears gushed. Sobs followed. Mama. Mama. No, you can't be gone.

I'm sorry, Mama.

I hurt.

It's my fault. Forgive me. You have to forgive me. I'm sorry.

Markus yanked me from her. Shouted into my teary face. This is Dask's fault.

What, escaped between sobs.

The Merchant wanted you. I told Dask that. Markus continued. I'm betting you are chaste. That's worth money to me.

You ugly bastard!

He laughed, a rich ugly bastard.

I whipped right, spun and was free. There it was. His blade. I took it.

He shouted. What are you going to do. Hurt me?

An eye for an eye.

That's funny he called out as he took from his pocket my mother's eyes.

Your death. Your blade. My duty.

I lunged.

He knocked the knife from me.

I was weak.

He laughed.

Punched my stomach.

I fell.

I ate dust trying to rise.

Couldn't. Do it, I kept saying, do it.

Who was so cruel?

Who was so amoral?

Killing doesn't happen to people I know. All this death. For me?

He's a demon.

The devil himself.

Markus tried to explain. All this over a half-bred like you. Dask betrayed you. Betrayed me. He said it was love. Fuck love. You're merchandise.

I am not merchandise, I spat between pain-ridden breaths.

He said, Yes, you are. Valuable, too. In ways I don’t understand. The Merchant wants you. You pure? Be pure. Or... I'll sell you. Maybe experiment on you. Be pure.

I screamed, What kind of monster are you? How could you kill your brother like that?

He’s not dead.

Liar, I yelled.

He will be if he betrays me again.

Then he... knelt... took my wrist... put a gold bracelet on it. You are now mine, Gabriella Margurite, and I will own you until someone buys you or you’re as dead as your family.

I wept and wept.

Contract Signed (Triggerman, Inc. Book 1) by Marie Harte

Date of Publication: January 17, 2017

Three assassins and a… baby?
How many assassins does it take to change a diaper?
Three assassins have met their match…and it wears diapers.

Triggerman, Inc., Book 1

Noel "Ice" Cavanaugh's method is foolproof. Get in, do the job, get out, melt away without a trace. Chill out until his next mark is assigned. Neat. Tidy. No mistakes.

This time, though, something isn't right. Two somethings. First a random attack that feels not-so-random. Then he discovers someone's left a baby on his doorstep with a note claiming it's his. And the sexy neighbor who found the boy first has too many questions in her eyes to ignore.

When her handsome, mysterious neighbor suddenly asks her out on a date, Adeline Rose has suspicions he's fishing for "help" with his bundle of…joy? By date's end, she's convinced NOel's just as distant as he seems—until a scorching goodnight kiss ends with sex against the nearest wall, the heat between them burning away all thoughts of careful.

Now Noel has more than one problem on his hands. Splitting baby duty between three badass assassins, figuring out how to fit more time with Addy into his no-room-for-error schedule…and keeping both of them safe from the danger he's increasingly sure has followed him home.

Warning: Beware a killer with a heart of gold, a baby who needs constant changing, and unrequited love that's actually quite…requited.
