Blurb: A
Treading the Boards Novella
A trip down to Cornwall is just what Ryan Penniford needs to recover from the daily grind of London life. Ryan and his amateur dramatics society, the Sarky Players, are traveling to Porthcurno to perform at the stunning Minack Theatre.
Stuart Box has returned to Cornwall after earning his PhD, and is killing time as he looks for a job back in London. Spending time with Ryan from the Sarky Players is a great way to take his mind off things.
During their first meeting, sparks fly, but not in a good way, and they must work to get past their initial hostilities to discover they have great off-stage chemistry. Stuart soon learns Ryan is not the superficial man people assume he is, and Stuart likes what he sees. The feeling is entirely mutual.
Pity Ryan is only visiting for two weeks, but both men want to see where this holiday romance might take them.

Excerpt:
Ryan drove into the parking bay that came with
the sea view property he’d rented. A day at the theater had been harder work
than he’d expected. If it hadn’t been for the physical demands of his part,
he’d have been in much worse shape, but lifting and carrying boxes was very
different from leaping and bouncing around a stage, and some of his lesser-used
muscles ached.
After the
play was finished, he was going to have to up his visits to the gym, as once a
week wasn’t going to cut it. The little flat was quite a find, too small to
share with anyone, which suited him just fine, giving him a blessed respite
from the chaos of the Sarky Players. Admittedly he was as much to blame as
anyone else for the tomfoolery and general shenanigans that went on, but too
much of it was exhausting. He didn’t have long before he had to meet Penny and the
rest of them at her cottage, and even though he’d prefer to savor a couple of
glasses of red on his own private balcony with views of the sun setting over
the headland, he couldn’t very well turn down an invitation for the first night
of their holiday.
No, the Ryan Penniford the Sarky Players thought
he was wouldn’t settle for anything so mundane, so he dragged his weary carcass
inside. Before throwing himself at the shower, he turned the coffee machine on
to warm up.
Thankfully the shower did a good job on his
aching muscles, and the coffee gave him the necessary pick-me-up. Jeans and a
nice T-shirt would be good enough for the evening. He was glad the weather was
fresher in Cornwall than London, but it did mean he would need a light jacket
to be on the safe side.
Ryan enjoyed the walk to the cottage thanks to
the light warm breeze and fantastic views of the Jurassic coast. He was sorely
tempted to continue past the turn he needed to take, but knew he’d face a slew
of questions if he didn’t turn up, and he didn’t have the option of a
convenient gay club nearby to pretend it had caught his interest instead.
As he approached he heard the chatter of voices.
Knowing that many of the Sarky Players had taken cottages together, Ryan
suspected the party had kicked off as soon as they’d gotten back from the
theater. He walked up the long drive to where three cottages nestled together
and followed the laughter and clinking bottles around to the back. Taking a
moment, he took a deep breath and made sure that the Ryan Penniford about to
make an appearance was the one they expected….
