Talking with author Kenneth G.Bennett

Have you always wanted to be an author?
I started writing stories at age 6 and have been a professional advertising copywriter most of my adult life. I’ve always loved telling stories.

Are you a plotter or a punster or combo of both? And you explain the difference?
I don’t like plotting. I prefer to start with an idea that I’m in love with and build the story organically, as I go.

What is your most interesting writing quirk?
I go for long walks to help me come up with ideas.

How did you come with the idea for this story?
I’d been reading about ecological catastrophe and then stumbled on some articles about animal intelligence and the surprising cognitive abilities of non-human species. The two topics came together to form the underlying concept of the book.

Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?
I’m working on a story called THE HEALER, about a man who discovers later in life that he has an amazing healing ability—a talent that could change the world.

Who is the one author that you would love to meet someday and why?
Lee Child—I love the Reacher series and think Child’s writing is brilliant.

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?
Read Stephen King’s book ON WRITING, at least twice.

Can you share with us something off your bucket list?
I’d like to kayak for a week in Glacier Bay in Alaska

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?
I’m anxious to get to SHIFT, Hugh Howey’s sequel to WOOL.

What is one book everyone should read before they die?
The Hobbit. It’s my favorite book of all time

What is your favorite time of year & why?
Winter. I love skiing and the stars on cold winter nights.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Thank you so much for this opportunity!

Summary:
Joe Stanton is in agony. Out of his mind over the death of his young daughter. Or so it seems.

Unable to contain his grief, Joe loses control in public, screaming his daughter’s name and causing a huge scene at a hotel on San Juan Island in Washington State. Thing is, Joe Stanton doesn’t have a daughter. Never did. And when the authorities arrive they blame the 28-year-old’s outburst on drugs.

What they don’t yet know is that others up and down the Pacific coast—from the Bering Sea to the Puget Sound—are suffering identical, always fatal mental breakdowns.

With the help of his girlfriend—the woman he loves and dreams of marrying—Joe struggles to unravel the meaning of the hallucination destroying his mind. As the couple begins to perceive its significance—and Joe’s role in a looming global calamity—they must also outwit a billionaire weapons contractor bent on exploiting Joe’s newfound understanding of the cosmos, and outlast the time bomb ticking in Joe’s brain.
