Guest Author Day with V.S. Nelson

Our guest today is Netchkhet, now known as Gabriel, who is the director of Guardians Inc. He is also the main hero in Sekhmet’s Guardians – Book One - Eternal Lovers, written by V.S. Nelson.

Interviewer: Gabriel, thank you for being here.

Gabriel: Thank you for having me. It is a joy being here. Please by all means call me Gabe, all my friends do.

Interviewer: What can you tell me about Guardians Inc., the business you run.

Gabriel: Guardians Inc, our protection agency, was formed over a hundred years ago by me and the six other members of the elite force, Sekhmet’s Guardians, who came to Earth almost six thousand years ago.  We operate openly in the human world, having offices around the world. We protect dignitaries, world leaders, rock legends, the rich and famous and anyone who needs our services.

Interviewer: Are you telling me you are six thousand years old?
Gabriel: Close enough.

Interviewer:  Wow! You don’t look a day over thirty.
(I can tell Gabe is starting to relax. He takes his sunglasses off and places them on my desk, stretches then smiles up at me before answering.)

Gabriel: Thank you.

(I can tell Gabriel is in excellent shape. When he first entered the room, he literally took my breath away. Standing 6’8” and weighing in around 275 lbs this black haired man is quite the piece of eye candy.)

Interviewer:  How long did it take you to convince Ms. Nelson to write your story?
(A smirk came over Gabe’s face.)

Gabriel:  I bugged the shit out of her for over several years. You see I first met V when she was teaching in Cairo. She really didn’t have time to write our story then so I wait… I can be patient when I have something to gain from it. So I waited till she retired.

Interviewer:  What did you finally do to make her write your story?
(Gabe’s eyes lit up and another smile came over his face.)

Gabriel:  That’s simple… I refused to let her sleep… and if she did, I entered her dreams. I continued to show our story to her nightly and during times when she was relaxed. Humans are so easy to distract.

Interviewer:  That wasn’t very nice, was it?
Gabriel:  Hey, it got her attention and got the book written, didn’t it?

Interviewer:  So what was it like, seeing and meeting Jennifer for the first time? Was it love at first site?

(Gabe closes his eyes and smiles as if he is remembering then answers.)

Gabriel: The first time I saw her she literally took my breath away. Sadly, she didn’t think too highly at me at the time.

Interviewer: Really?

Gabriel: Yeah, if I remember correctly, her first words to me were, “get the fuck away from me,” or something to that effect anyway.

Interviewer: I just can’t imagine any woman telling you to take a hike.

Gabriel: Yeah, well she was the first… She’s an amazing creature for such a tiny thing. Jennifer may be less than five foot tall but after she accepted her Selkie nature there was no holding her back.

(I can’t help but laugh)

Interviewer: I heard someone say the two of you together look like the proverbial Mutt and Jeff...

Gabriel: I guess in a way we do, but I really like her being so tiny. I could talk about Jennifer all day but then I would have to deal with V when I get home because I would end up sharing too much of the story. So let’s move on, shall we?

Interviewer: What can you tell us about the others that came to Earth with you?

Gabriel: My brethren and I have known each other for a long time. We were raised together in New Tuat, our home world. Each of us joined the elite fighting force, Sekhmet’s Guardians then we were led to Earth by Sekhmet herself. That was so long ago. I imagine we have changed a great deal since then… As you know, even our names have changed. Up until recently we were scattered across the world. As I mentioned, we have offices in several other countries. I called everyone home to Chicago when Set’s Legions started acting up again. Everyone now lives at our Lake Michigan Estate along with a couple of hundred recruits and soldiers.

Interviewer: Out of those six who would you say you're closest to? Who is your best friend?

Gabriel: I’m close to all of them. Raphael and I have much in common… thought for a while I was going to lose Jennifer to his cowboy charm -- his loss, my gain. Thankfully, he fell head over heels in love with Jen’s baby sister Jessica. There story is highlighted in book two of the series, Eternal Nights.

Michael has always been my confident. He’s probably the most level headed of the bunch. Maybe that’s because he’s a doctor -- who knows?

Ariel, Raziel, and Thomas; they’re all a great bunch of guys, trustworthy, honest and great fighters. Ariel spent the last fifty or so years running our L.A. office while Raziel ran our Middle Eastern office out of Cairo. I was visiting him when I first met V. Thomas is all over the place since he also runs several night clubs that cater to the Nation. What else do you want to know?

Interviewer: Didn’t you leave out someone? What about Lance?

Gabriel: Lance? My baby brother? What can I tell you that you don’t already know? The kid is a genius, a geek and quite the ladies man… Never seen him with the same lady twice. Maybe he’ll grow up—someday. Watch for his story in December when book three, Eternal Blades is released.

Interviewer: The names you took during the crusades make all of you sound like a bunch of ninja turtles. What's with the angel names? Raphael…Gabriel.

(Gabriel doesn’t answer me, but his eyes tell me I’m treading on thin ice. Time to move on.)

Interviewer: We have time for one final question. How many books is V.S. Nelson planning on writing about you and Sekhmets Guardians?

Gabriel: I believe she has eleven planned including her most recent release but if I have my way there will be more.

(Gabriel gives me a wink takes a drink of the water in front of him then looks at his watch. Guess it’s time to wind this up.)

Interviewer: Gabriel, I’d like to thank you for being our guest today. Any final words for our readers out there?

Gabriel:  If you haven’t figured it out yet, I am a man of few words, so I’ll just say this.  If your readers want to know more about me, Jennifer, or my brethren, I suggest they pick up a copy of Sekhmet’s Guardians – Book One – Eternal Lovers and begin the journey. I’m sure they will find the series not only hot but exciting! Thank you again for having me, it’s been fun. I’m heading home now to check out things on the compound and to give Jennifer a little surprise I picked up on the way here.

(Gabriel pulls out a velvet ring box and shows me a gorgeous ring then puts one finger up to his lips – mum is the word and God knows I don’t want to disobey his silent command.)
Interviewer: Gabriel, before you take off… Did you by chance bring us a snippet or two from V’s books?

(Gabriel pulls out a folded piece of paper from his pocket and places it on my desk)

Using what strength he managed to muscle up, he pulled her up to him and kissed her again. Making out as if there were no tomorrow, the heat of their passion blazed alive with a hunger that wasn’t even interrupted when Michael stood at the door and cleared his throat.
“Well, I think my patient is feeling better. If you two will come up for air, I need to check his wounds.”
Jennifer pulled back and both their eyes turned to look at Michael, standing not two feet from them. She blushed, he smiled. Jennifer stood back, breaking their contact. He grabbed her hand before she managed to get away.
“Don’t leave,” he said.
“I’m not going anywhere. Let Michael take a look at you. I’ll be right here.”
Michael came forward and quickly checked his wounds. He checked the heart monitor. He looked up at the empty blood bag and he listened to his heart.
Shaking his head, he said, “You’re healing, but not fast enough. You need more blood. We have run out of bagged blood because of all the wounded. I’ll send a donor to you as soon as one is free.”
“He can have mine,” Jen unrepentantly announced.
“Jennifer, you don’t know what you’re saying.
“The hell I don’t!”
She turned and faced Michael. “He needs blood right? I’ve got plenty. There is no need to wait or to send for someone else.”
“Jen, Honey, Sweetheart; listen to me… you don’t know what your saying, I can wait. I’ll be fine as long as you’re with me.”
“No, Michael said you need blood to heal. It’s okay, really… take mine.”
He wanted nothing more than to taste her exquisite life giving substance, but he didn’t want it like this… not when there was a chance he couldn’t control what he was doing.
“Jennifer, you don’t understand, I don’t want to hurt you.”
“BULLSHIT! You need blood and you’re taking mine!”
She thrust her wrist up to his mouth.
He pushed her arm back down on the bed. “Honey; you don’t understand. I don’t know if I can hold back with you. I want you so much… I’m afraid I’ll hurt you.”
“Do you love me?”
“Yes but…”
“There are no buts. You need blood and blood I have… Gabriel, I trust you… Take mine please.”  She brought up her wrist to his mouth again.
“GOD DAMN IT GABRIEL! SHUT THE FUCK UP AND DRINK!”
Gabriel looked at her and knew he couldn’t resist her much longer.
“Michael, you separate us if I lose control… even if you have to kill me. SWEAR IT!”
Michael placed his right hand over his heart, nodding at him. The vow was given. He could hear Michael’s prayer as if it was his own.
Gabriel’s fangs extended as he took hold of her wrist. Looking up at her he said his own little silent prayer. His eyes focused on her face as his fangs lengthened and he bit into her tiny wrist.

It took Jennifer almost two hours to catch up with her sister. There she was sitting on a bolder at the bottom of Lake Michigan. She estimated they were somewhere near Cheboygan, far north of their residence.
“Jessica, don’t run. Please, let’s talk.”
Jessica didn’t even look up. Her arms were wrapped tightly around her chins holding her in place.
“I wasn’t running from you. I just had to get away. You will always be in my heart—the sister I once had.”
“Jess, there is no reason to run. I think you mistook what Raphael said. He loves you—just as you love him. Jess, you’ve never had a life that was truly your own. Can’t you see that he was willing to sacrifice his own happiness for yours by giving you a chance to choose? That is all he meant when he said those things to you. Please Jess, don’t run. Come back with me… talk to him… let him explain. I know you two can work this out.”
“Please Jess.” The soft whisper of Raphael’s voice brought Jennifer’s head around and Jessica’s head up. There standing on the bottom of the lake a few feet from them was Raphael.
Jennifer couldn’t help but laugh—Raphael looked not only pathetic in his misery but looked absolutely ridiculous fully clothes with his shoes on at the bottom of the lake.
