Welcome AJ Jarrett today

Welcome to my Reading Nook, AJ Jarrett. Please make yourself at home and let my cabana boys/girls get you a drink.

Comfortable? Wonderful. Now let’s get started.

What is your writing process? Do you outline, fly by the seat of your pants or a combination of both?

AJ- I start out with an outline but that always falls to the waste side and I end up writing by the seat of my pants. Once the characters take over, they’re unstoppable. I pretty much know what I want the outcome to be when I sit down to write a story but sometimes what the characters want and how they grow and change within the story puts all my best efforts to stay on task to shame.

What did you do before you were a writer? Do you write full time?

AJ- I’m a fulltime mom and still am. I have four kids ranging from the ages of 4-10. I’d love nothing more than to write fulltime but their crazy schedules don’t allow me to do that yet!

If you were going to cast the hero(s) of your book, what actor would get the part?

AJ-  Oh that’s a tough one. I don’t always have certain actors or people in mind but for Miles’s Awakening I actually did. In my imagination I casted Sean Paul Lockhart as Miles and Alexander SkarsgĂ„rd as Ben. To me they made a perfect match for the characters I was writing.  And it doesn’t hurt that they both are easy on the eyes.

I know you're not supposed to show favoritism but who's been your favorite character to write?

AJ-  Oh that’s easy, Trevor. Trevor was introduced in Miles’s Awakening and he is Miles’s cousin. He’s got a smart mouth and doesn’t hesitate to say what he thinks. He’s got a heart of gold and loves life and his family. He comes off to most as a sarcastic brat but deep down he just wants to be accepted and covers his insecurities with his quick wit.

Do you have a favorite TV show you can't miss?

AJ-  Yes! I’m a fan of TrueBlood and I never miss and episode. I have a lot of can’t misses, Grimm, Once Upon a Time, Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf. As everyone can see I have a fondness for the paranormal world.

If you could date any character from any book, who would it be and why-no it doesn't have to be from your books?

AJ-  I love this question and I always, always answer it the same way, Eric Northman from the Sookie Stackhouse books. I read the books long before the TV show started and had already in my mind pictured what Eric looked like and the actor they casted was pretty darn close. Eric is the typical bad guy who wants to do right but something always seems to get in the way. Charlaine Harris created an amazing character when she wrote Eric.

Please share with us some juicy details about your latest release.

AJ-  My latest release is Logan’s Rattler its book three in the Warriors of the Light series.  Juicy details? I’d have to say the way Finn and Logan meet is unexpected and where the story starts up is in a steamy, erotic scene. Character from the first two books make an appearance. For the readers that are fans of Trevor something takes place in this book that involves him and another character that could possibly cause conflict with Trevor’s future mate.

What was your inspiration behind this book?

AJ-  I’m a big fan of love unexpected and I love to see how the characters overcome their differences to reach that ultimate goal of a happy ever after. So I spun this story to have that element to it. Logan is completely taken off guard when he meets Finn and Finn is as well. Neither man were out looking for their soul mate but with a little simple twist of fate, boom! They found him.

What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

AJ-  I actual just got L.A.Witt’s Changing Plans Trilogy. I’ve read the first book and getting ready to start the second. Daisy Harris’s Men of Holsum College series is a must read from me. I love to read so the list could go on forever.

Do you listen to music while you write? If so what are your favorites Artists and or albums?

AJ-  No. If I did I’d end up writing the lyrics to the song that was playing. I need complete silence when I write.

If you could go any place in the world and to any time period, what place time would you choose to visit?

AJ-  I’m a creature of habit and I don’t like change. If I could go anywhere any time I’d still pick here and now. I’ve got a great life with a wonderful husband and four amazing kids. To me there is nothing better and more entertaining than that. I live a crazy and hectic life but it’s what makes me me. And to be honest some of the weirdest stuff happens around my house. Half the time I feel like I should be charged admission to witness half the stuff I see in my own home.

What is your favorite super power and why do you want it?

AJ-  I love to be able to move things with my mind. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been across the room and needed something from the other side. And me being lazy I wish I could just wiggle my nose or whatever to get it to magically come to me. I’d also like to be able to read other people’s minds. I’m nosey sometimes.

If you could write a warning label for yourself as a person or an author, what would it say?

AJ-  Be careful when asking my opinion because I’ll actually give it to you. Thank you and have a nice day! My husband would totally agree with this.

Do you have any guilty pleasures?

AJ-  I have an unhealthy love for Dove chocolates. I could eat them all the time. I spend way too much on shampoo and conditioner. I’m sure there are more but these were the first two that popped into my head

Warriors of the Light 1- Miles’s Awakening
Blurb
A member of the Council of Paranormal Beings and leader of the Warriors of the Light, Ben has for centuries kept order in his world. Having been sent to destroy an evil vampire by the name of Malcolm, his mission gets diverted when he discovers the man Malcolm has been stalking is his destined mate.
Miles lived a quiet life, but all that changes when he gets caught up in a tug-of-war between good and evil. Being the fated mate to Ben and Malcolm has put his life in danger. Ben is the only one who can save him if he can just surrender his heart and accept his destiny.
In an attempt to protect Miles, Ben gives Malcolm the opportunity to take what he holds dear. Time's running out. Can Ben save Miles from a fate worse than death? Or is Ben forever destined to be alone?
Excerpt
Miles gave a sharp shake of his head, trying to clear his thoughts of the sexy man herding him like a sheep to his apartment. “Excuse me. I hate to be rude, but what makes you think I will let you into my apartment?” It was a halfhearted attempt at anger because right now, his dick was standing at full salute, and he wouldn’t mind getting a little dirty with the man if he could find out for sure he didn’t just escape from a mental hospital.
“I think you will because you want to live, and I’m the one who is going to be able to protect you.”
Wait a minute, did he just say, “Protect me?” Protect me from what? Did I want to live? Fuck yes I wanted to live. His hard-on died a quick death. “Dude, you’re freaking me out here. What do you mean ‘want to live’ and ‘protect’ me? Is all this a trick to get into my apartment?” Miles’s eyes traveled the length of the man’s body then he met the guy’s eyes. “Don’t get me wrong. You’re a really hot guy, but, dude, I don’t even know you.”
“Listen, I will answer all your questions once we’re in your apartment, but right now, sweet face, we need to get to your place before they attack.” That was all Miles needed to hear. He walked faster with his new friend to his front door, praying this guy wasn’t some serial killer preying on young male college students. He so didn’t want to die and have this guy chop him into little pieces and eat him. Well, he wanted the guy to eat him, but not in that way.
Once at the outer door, Miles tried to make his shaking hands work to get the key in the hole. He was so scared about this whole crazy situation. While he worked the key in the hole, the other man had his back to Miles, facing the street like he expected an attack of some sort, which for all Miles knew, he did.
“Kid, get that damn door open now!”
Just then the key turned, freeing the lock, and the door swung open. The other man pushed Miles through the entryway and slammed the door shut behind them. He ushered Miles up the stairs as if he knew exactly where he was going. That gave Miles pause. Did this guy know where he lived? Had he been stalking him? Oh shit, did I just let the enemy into my home?
“Kid, you’re thinking too hard. I’m not going to kill you. I promise.” The man made the cross sign over his chest and put his hand in the air like he was making an oath to god.
“How did you know what I was thinking?”
“It’s written all over your face.” The man chuckled softly. “I’m not going to do anything to you.” The man gave Miles an assessing once-over from head to toe. Miles could feel the man’s gaze on his body as if it were his fingers trailing a sizzling line all over his skin. “That you wouldn’t want me to.”

Warriors of the Light 2- Astrid’s Wish
Blurb
After a hundred years of abuse, Astrid Reznik has finally found a home. Living amongst the Warriors of the Light, he has all he ever dreamed of, a family. Everything changes when the witch sent by the Council of Paranormal Beings to question him ends up being his mate. Suddenly he desires things from another man he never thought possible.
Klaus Marinos is a high council witch whose job is to hunt down evil witches who use their magic for evil. Believing Astrid to be no better, he is shocked to learn besides being mates, the young witch is also half fairy. Astrid’s an anomaly in their world, and Klaus is forced to protect him at all costs.
A kidnapping attempt exposes Astrid’s true purpose for existing, to destroy the Council. An unforeseen evil threatens to take everything Klaus holds dear, and it’s up to him and the warriors to protect Astrid.
Excerpt
Klaus kicked his feet up onto Benedict’s shiny desk. He saw the man bristle from his boldness. He had to bite back his smile. Let the man get upset. Klaus was older and had the full respect of the council even if, technically, he worked in the same sector as Benedict. Which kind of made the man his boss.

“I must ask again, what’s this hard-on you have for finding Asher?” Klaus cocked an eyebrow at Benedict. “If you ask me, it all seems rather odd to be wasting the council’s time on a vampire who has been missing for centuries. Who may very well be dead.”

“He’s not dead!” Benedict shouted as he slammed his hand down on his desk, splintering the wood surface.

Well, now they were getting somewhere. Klaus always had his suspicions where the two men were concerned, and Benedict’s behavior just kept fueling that particular fire. He dropped his feet to the floor and leaned forward on his elbows. “How do you know? Did you gaze into your crystal ball or some shit?” he taunted the man.

Benedict fidgeted with the papers on his desk, avoiding eye contact with Klaus. “I just know, and let’s leave it at that.” He watched the mask of calm collectiveness slam back into place. “Like I stated earlier, I’m sending you to a town called Branson, Missouri. That is where my son has currently taken up residency, and you’re the one going because you’re the only witch I trust around my son.”

“Well jeez, thanks.” He snatched the papers out of Benedict’s outreached hand and thumbed through the report as Benedict carried on.

“It seems my son’s mate has befriended this witch that was being held prisoner with him. The man was held under Malcolm and Lucian’s care for over a hundred years. We will be lucky if he doesn’t go insane. If it turns out that he is damaged, I don’t want him around my son and his mate.”

Klaus glanced up from his papers. “Does this witch have a name?”

“It’s not in the report?” Benedict clicked away on his keyboard, searching through his computer. “Oh here it is. His name is Astrid.”

“Astrid?” he asked in disbelief. “Are you sure it’s a man?” He chuckled. Who would give a boy such a feminine name? With a name like that, the poor guy should be allowed to go a little crazy every now and again.

“From what my son has told me, this man, Astrid, was sold when he was thirteen years of age to Malcolm. He has no knowledge of where he comes from. He only spoke of a mother.” Benedict tapped his fingers on the desktop. “Pretty heartless if you ask me. God only knows what Malcolm did to the poor man. And in my book, it’s better to be safe than sorry. So if this Astrid is going to lose it, I’d rather him do it here at council headquarters where we can control the damage.”

Warriors of the Light 3- Logan’s Rattler
Blurb
All Logan Erickson ever wanted in life was stability and a place to call home. He thought he found that until he finds himself with the psychic ability to listen in on other people’s innermost thoughts. After hearing the dark desires of his current boyfriend, Logan takes off traipsing through the woods, abandoning all hope of ever finding true love, when he stumbles upon a man that will change his very existence.
Finn Palmer has every reason to dislike witches after being turned into a rattlesnake shifter without any knowledge of the paranormal world until meeting the Warriors of the Light. Finn, like most, has waited patiently to find his mate, and now that he’s found Logan he has no intentions of ever letting him go even if Logan is part witch.
An unforeseen enemy is after Logan’s body to host another’s soul. Will Finn be able to prevent this evil plot, or will Logan be lost to him forever?
Excerpt
Finn looked at his mate, uncertain of what he should say. Logan agreed to the mating. He wanted it. Hell, he begged for it. But now his mate looked like he was scared of him. Him, his mate. This wasn’t good.

“Logan, calm down,” Finn said in soft, unthreatening tone.

“How do you know my name?” Logan scooted to the other side of the bed.

“It’s written on your ID.”

“You went through my wallet?” Finn watched his mate climb from the bed. “Good grief, what have I gotten myself into.” Logan fidgeted with his clothes, and Finn took the opportunity to tug up his pants.

He pulled his shirt over his head as he listened to his mate talk to himself. It would appear Logan thought what had just happened was all a dream and was pissed because he felt like a slut or some such nonsense. They were mates, and Finn had to find a way to explain that without freaking the man out more than he already was.

“Logan, please sit down. I’ll explain everything.” He followed behind Logan as he picked up his socks and shoes from the floor.

“I let you fuck me without a condom. Hell, I even let you bite me.” He turned abruptly to Finn. “Do you have any diseases I need to know about?” Logan barked out a laugh. “Like you would actually tell me the truth,” his mate mumbled to himself.

“You don’t have to fear catching anything from me. I’m disease-free. I swear it.” If Logan only knew Finn couldn’t catch human ailments.

“Yeah, right, whatever.” Logan shuffled around Finn’s room, searching for the rest of his belongings.

Anger flared its nasty head at his mate’s refusal to believe him. He would die for Logan, but right now he wanted to throttle the very sexy brat. “I would never lie to you. You’re my mate. I would never hurt you. I love you.” Before he could stop himself, he blurted out the words. Seeing the shocked and disbelieving look on his mate’s face, he instantly regretted the omission.

“Excuse me? Are you fucking insane?” Logan shouted. “You love me?” His mate shook his head, sending a clump of hair over his left eye. “You don’t even know me.”

“Logan, if you just let me explain it’ll all make sense. I promise.” Finn took a step toward his mate. He had to tilt his head upward to meet Logan’s eyes.

As Logan stood still before him, Finn took the time to take in his mate’s beauty. Logan stood a few inches taller than his own five foot ten inches. His body was composed of lean, firm muscle like that found on a swimmer’s body. Not bulky but proportionate to his frame and height. His short black hair stood out in contrast to his pale skin. Not even a blemish marred the creamy white skin. The most exotic thing about Logan was his eyes. The blue irises had a milky tinge to them, almost appearing white.
