Excerpt set-up: Ameena has just spent the day working hard, under the watchful eye of one of the agents who is guarding her.  She is exhausted but hungry.

So it was already after eight at night when Ameena and Tomás left the soundstage.  Tomás made a point of opening doors and letting Ameena precede him through them, then staying close beside her.  At one point he was so close she felt his hot breath raising the hairs on the back of her neck.

     "Hey, back off, dude!  Let me breathe."

     He inhaled deeply, blowing gently into her hair as he exhaled.

     "Why?  You smell so good..."

     Ameena grinned at him.

     "And you are so full of shit, no wonder your eyes are brown!"

     She had stopped to click open the door of her car with her hand-held fob.  Since Tomás was right behind her, she put her hand on her hip and faced him.

     "Obviously you are going to have to go around to the other side of the car to get in...unless you plan on sitting on my lap while I drive?"

     He pressed his pelvis against her upper thigh.

     "I'd rather have you sitting on my lap."

     Ameena rolled her eyes.

     "Just get in the car, Romeo!  I'm starved and we have to pick up something to eat then get back to my condo to meet the other guys."

     Tomás smiled as he circled the car to get in the passenger side.  He pulled out his cell phone as they were putting their seat belts on.

     "Shall I tell them we will be leaving in an hour, to give us some time alone before they get there?"

     Ameena glared at him.

     "Uh...no?  I don't know how you guys are going to split the shadow-duty, but if you are going to be with me during the day, you are going to have to get used to getting up really early and having long days.  That's been my life while I've been working on this damn video and it's not done yet.  Until it is, no late nights.  Early to bed, then early to wake up and get your ass in gear."

     He raised one eyebrow with a leer.

     "I like that early to bed part...and as for your ass..."

     "Don't you ever stop?" 

     "Actually, no.  In fact, many women have compared me to the Energizer Bunny. "

     Ameena laughed out loud.

     "This is the place I'm running into to grab some dinner.  You wait in the car so I can leave it double-parked.  I'm getting a taco salad and some chips with salsa.  Do you want me to get you anything?"

     Tomás wrinkled his nose.

     "Is it authentic, or faux-Mexican?"

     "Are you hungry or not?"

     He leered at her, then winked.

     "Oh, I'm hungry all right."

When they get back to her apartment with the food, Tomas makes his move on Ameena and she almost gives into him because he's so good at seduction and she has been alone for a long time, trying to heal from what happened to her.  But she is more attracted to the other agent...

     "I said no, and I meant no. This is so not going to happen."

     Tomás stopped moving and tilted his head, smiling at her.

     "You mean not until later?  After we eat?  Though I must admit my own appetites are dueling with each other right now, and I'm not sure which one I need to satisfy first."

     Ameena shook her head again, more definitively.

     "I told you, Tomás, this is not going to happen.  I don't need any more complications in my life right now."

     He shrugged.

     "I'm not a complicated man, Ameena.  I want you...you want me.  It's simple.  We satisfy each other, then life goes on.  Simple."

But nothing in the lives of secret agents is ever simple!
