Welcome Author D. C. Juris/Excerpt

I want to give a big welcome to my wonderful friend and a great author, D. C. Juris. If you haven't picked up one of his books, I highly recommend them. :o)

When did you seriously sit down, and say to yourself, I’m going to write a novel? I don't think I ever did. I just wrote. I've just always felt the calling to write.

If you were to start again, with the knowledge you have now, what would be the first thing you do? Not hire an agent. :-)

Do you have the support of family and friends? Some of them, yes, and some of them, no. My husband, kids, sister and co-workers are all supportive. My husband's family is glad I don't use the family name, if that tells you anything. LOL

Do you have a book coming out? If so what? I've just had one come out - it's called "Relearning the Ropes" and it's about a Dom who has to redefine what being a Dom means to him.

How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing? It depends on the story. My transgender stories contain a lot more of "me" than my others.

Do you have a set schedule for writing or do you just go with the flow? I go with the flow. My Evil Day Job takes up a lot of my time, so I can't really set a schedule.

What do you have coming up? Any teasers you want to give us? I'm working on several projects, including some sequels to things you've already seen. ::wink::

What is your writing routine once you start a book? I work on several WIPs at once, but for the most part, I write down whatever comes to me, then piece it toothier into something that makes sense. Then it gets printed off and I begin the editing process, which may be anything from just line edits to entire re-writes.

What are your thoughts on love scenes in romance novels, do you find them difficult to write? I don't find them difficult at all. I love sex and the expression of emotion through physical interaction.

What kind of research do you do? For the most part, my books don't require a lot of research as far as history and whatnot. Sex toys, though…now that's another story!

Fill in the blank favorites –
Dessert: Blackberry cobbler
City: Right where I am
Type of hero: Reluctant/quiet.
Type of heroine: Strong/determined.

What are some of your favorite things to do, or your hobbies? Photography, long drives to nowhere, and antiques.

Who are some of your other favorite authors and/or genres to read? I'll read anything m/m. Favorite authors? Oh, you are trying to get a boy in trouble, aren't you?!

Which of your books has been the easiest to write?  The hardest?  The most fun? All of my m/m and transgender stories have been easy. Heterosexual stories are hardest for  me - "Stars Embrace" took way longer than it should've. And they're all fun. Well, except for that one! LOL

Which comes first, the story, the characters or the setting? They all come at once. My characters tap me on the shoulder, introduce themselves, and ask if I have a minute to listen.

If we asked your muse to tell us three things about you, what do you think they might say? LMAO Obsessive compulsive, scatterbrained, and

What is your favorite season and why? Fall. The summer is too hot for me - heat makes me sick - and the winter hurts my joints.

Congratulations, your novel was just picked up by a major Hollywood studio. They are letting you cast the characters. Name the book you would choose to be made into a movie and who you think would play those characters. Oh, Omarati, definitely, just because it would be fun to see the special effects. My knee-jerk reaction for actors is Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, just because we'd *finally* see them kiss! ^-^ But seriously - Gerard Butler as Calliph, because his performances make me believe his character is feeling those emotions (and because who doesn't want to see him kiss another man?!?!?) and…and this is going to seem odd, probably, but Matthew Gray Gubler for Mateo. Because when he smiles it lights up the room, and because he displays fortitude in quiet bursts, which is what Mateo does.

If you could choose anywhere in the world to set up your desk and write, where would you like it to be? What’s so special to you about this place?  I really love being right where I am. I'm not one to dream of faraway places - I'd rather make my home my castle.

When his good friend Julius dies unexpectedly, Marcus finds himself saddled with a new submissive--Charlie. But Charlie comes with a history, and more than Marcus has ever experienced. Marcus knows he loves Charlie, and Charlie loves him, but Marcus must set aside his old theories about BDSM and relearn the ropes if he wants to be the Dom--and the lover--they both need him to be.

Excerpt:

Charlie nodded, his shoulders sagged. "I'll go, of course, if you wish it. I won't defy you."

Of course he wouldn't. Not a question of Charlie's loyalty to Marcus, but of Marcus' to Charlie. How far did he think he could push his new sub? How far did he want to? "Are you asking me to go with you?"

"I would prefer it." Though the words came out as a mumble, and Charlie refused to look at Marcus.

"I thought you wanted to remain in the closet at work." Julius had been able to manage his attraction for Charlie. Had been able to disguise it, and vice versa. Charlie got rock hard when Marcus simply smiled at him, a predicament to which Marcus couldn't claim complete immunity.

"I will control myself." Charlie raised his head, but quickly looked away again.

Marcus chuckled softly and reached over to cup Charlie's cheek, turning his face up so their gazes met. "You are incapable of looking at me with anything other than love and lust in your eyes. One glance between us and your secret will be out."

Charlie smiled softly. "There is that."

"Man-to-man, Charlie. Are you that afraid to go?"

"Yes." Just a whisper past his lips, and he closed his eyes tightly, a slight tremor running through him. "I'm terrified. I can't do these things alone. Julius was always there. He watched out for me. He knew" Charlie's breathing hitched up a notch.

"I know." Marcus pressed a kiss to Charlie's forehead.

"I miss him."

"Me too." He wiped a tear from Charlie's cheek, smiling at the way Charlie pressed his face against the touch and leaned into it. Perhaps man-to-man needed to mean something bigger. The sub in Charlie needed to be dominated, protected. But what if the man in him just needed comfort and support? "I'll go with you to the party. And while we're there? While you're trying not to dwell on how much you don't want to be there? I want you to think about what you'd like to do tonight, when we come back."

Awww :-) Thanks, Raven! I have to say, even though it's a short story, Charlie had me teary-eyed more than once. I really loved writing him.
