Thank you for hosting me on the Dawn’s Reading Nook blog! It is indeed a pleasure.

I think your bloggers will enjoy Brainstorm, my latest thriller. From the start, there is plenty of dramatic question, building like in a boiler without a check valve—the readers knowing that the boiler will soon explode under the mounting pressure. All the while, I take time to set the reader firmly into the story so that the characters are well understood, and the scene is as clear as I can make it for this type of plot. With tension rising from scene to scene, the action soon takes over, and the Brainstorm thrill ride begins—like topping that first big hill on a rollercoaster.

I’ve populated Brainstorm with some very interesting and well-drawn characters.  There’s Major Lionel Jackson, a US Air Force Para Rescue officer, known as “Jax” to his friends and “The Black Lion” to his men and peers. He’s a career military man, but he’s given all that up and gone rogue in order to rescue his best friend Daniel McMaster and save the people of Gold Rush. Jax is a complex but passionate man, his father a black naval officer and mother the daughter of a Hawaiian pineapple plantation owner. Years back, he married a beautiful and very spiritual Native American named Moonfeather. When he’s alone, he still speaks with her even though she was lost in a SCUBA accident several years ago.

Sunny McMaster is a beautiful and very spirited redhead, and Daniel McMaster’s devoted wife. She found her soul mate in Daniel, and will go to any length to find him. At one time, while in her teens, Sunny was a world-class gymnast, and a member of the US Olympic Team, but was unable to compete after injuring her ankle.  She hasn’t looked back, however; knowing that if she hadn’t had the accident, she never would have met Daniel, nor would she have given birth to their lovely daughter Lilly. Normally a very easy-going woman, she is prepared to fight to the end to get the man she loves back to safety.

Robert Weller is an average Joe. As far as he knows, he lives a charmed, middle-class life in a small, picturesque mountain village in the Rockies. He owns a hardware store, has a son and a beautiful Oriental wife named Michelle. But all isn’t perfect, as his son was paralyzed in a car accident that nearly killed the boy and Michelle. Their hopes are that a new spinal cord regeneration therapy will get their son walking again. But Robert’s head doesn’t seem right since a fall in the shower, and his memories are causing strange thoughts.  He becomes a victim of day terrors and visions he can’t explain, and an odd voice inside his head seems to be leading him to question his own identity.

Dr. Xiang Gao is the Weller family physician and seems to be doing all he can to get the Wellers’ son into the yet  experimental spinal regeneration program. He’s an unusual man, six-foot-six, long salt-and-pepper hair worn in a braid, and he’s also a brilliant scientist. Xiang is the son of a Russian diplomat and a Chinese prostitute, and he is haunted by his past. He seeks retribution even uglier than what he experienced during his traumatic, war-torn childhood while growing up in a Japanese prison camp.  His day is coming, and the world will pay.

Daniel McMaster is a former Recon Marine and a one-time member of the US Government’s Thousand Eyes Project—a remote viewing team seeking military use of this rare psychic talent. After quitting the project several years ago, he and his wife Sunny started McMaster’s Nonlethal Solutions, a company developing nonlethal devices for law enforcement and the military. He’s a military hero, saving Lionel Jackson and a man named Gunny Sampson from certain death during a clandestine mission in the Middle East, many years back. But he’s gone missing—no one has seen or heard from him in two years.

Inspiration for Brainstorm came from my curiosity about the many secret, paranormal projects our government has taken part in over the years, as well as my interest in the incredible, high-tech weapons, nonlethal devices and defensive measured that are being developed or are in concept. Also, I’ve always found true love to be inspiring, and I wanted to write a love story within a thriller novel.  Brainstorm is the result.
