Then the fire that brought Willy and the kids into his life
turns even more problematic. Code violations led to the fire spreading more
quickly than it should have. As Willy and Kevin investigate, they come up
against forces that would rather turn a blind eye. Can they protect the new
family they're building, or will it all go up in flames once more?
KEVIN HAD magic hands; that was all there was to it. Willy lay stretched out on the bed as Kevin worked the backs of his legs. Willy wanted to ask him where he learned to do this, but the fact was that he didn’t have the energy, and he certainly didn’t want to break the moment between them. He worried that he had sounded really whiny earlier, and he wished he could take back everything he’d said. But at the moment, with Kevin’s glorious hands working the back of his leg and down his calf to his foot, he found himself gasping as tension released from his muscles.
“Sweetheart, you’ve been holding tension all
over.” Kevin continued the massage, moving to Willy’s other leg. “And you need
to release it.” He continued working down his leg and then his foot, sending a
tingling sensation up Willy’s back. Willy lay still as more and more tension
left him. For the first time in weeks, he didn’t feel as though he were being
tied in knots. They were coming undone, and the pressure and worry flowed out
of him. He had no idea how long this would last, but it felt damn good.
“That’s it,” Kevin whispered as he made long
strokes up his legs and back before descending again, all the way to his feet.
“Let’s roll over.”
“Okay,” Willy whispered and turned over. Kevin
shifted to his shoulders and neck, working more tension out of them. “How…?”
“I took classes in massage therapy a few years
ago. The guys at the station are always complaining about aches and tension.
But once I finished the classes, I realized how uncomfortable it was to work on
the guys, so my skills didn’t go anywhere… until now. I’m a little rusty,
but….”
Willy released a deep breath and closed his
eyes. He found he didn’t have the energy to talk, so he just let go of
everything and lay quietly, letting Kevin’s incredible hands work their magic.
Breathing deeply, he kept his eyes closed, concentrating only on where Kevin
touched him.
