I HAVE A STORY
Author: Colleen L Donnelly
Historical Romance
Jim Turner writes crime but doesn’t live it. He respects his grandfather’s tales of heroes but doesn’t believe them. When his failing grandfather sends him to a remote peninsula to write the end of his own heroic love story, Jim includes a war criminal interview to maintain his edge.
Chastity is an anomaly, a misfit in pre-WWII culture as well as in Jim’s life. Her spritely charm and endearing features turn Jim’s world upside down, especially when she reveals his grandfather’s peninsula as the site of her upcoming wedding.
Do
good journalists flee when their interviewee is murdered? Do heroes write
fiancés out of another’s story and themselves in? “The End” become the hardest
words for Jim to write.

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT
Author's
Note: Boy meets Girl. Can he be a hero for the next three days—until she
marries another.
“Come
inside,” she said from the passenger seat.
I
couldn’t fall for a girl whose wedding I promised to help plan. I climbed out
of my car and glanced over its top at her balcony, her open door and windows
where fabric walls and curtains billowed out with the breeze. This wasn’t a
home. It was heaven.
My
inner war returned. “It’s just three days. How much damage can occur in such a
small amount of time?” my dark and selfish side reasoned. “Enough to cost both
of you dearly if you don’t get a grip on yourself,” my shinier side countered.
“What’s three days? What could go wrong in seventy-two hours?” my dark side
persisted. My shiny side considered the matter settled. “It’s who it could go
wrong for that matters.”
“Jim.”
Chastity’s voice floated from the car window.
My
heart hammered at the sound of my name from her lips, and my dark side raised
another victory shout. I rushed to open her door. Chastity’s smile joined mine
as she exited, and we walked toward her ladder where the wind would carry us
upward…
“Focus,”
I whispered as we crossed a yard void of grass, an absolute contrast to the
color and vibrancy that awaited us above. I took hold of the ladder’s side and
paused.
“You
help me, and I will help you.” The cutest young woman I had ever seen stood at
the ladder’s opposite side. She offered me a pact that would end after three
days—two days, at this point. In spite of that, my shiny, heroic side saw the
light. No matter how much the old me and the new me duked it out over her, this
woman would always have the final say. Because I truly did love her—her outer
flamboyance and her inner dedication—and love meant thinking of her first.
“After
you,” I said. And I meant it.
