Welcome author Jarrett Mazza to the Reading Nook blog today as we chat wit them about their Doormen series and more.
Tell us about your latest book, who
are the main character’s and what can we expect when we pick it up?
My latest book, is actually part of a series called Doormen. The books are
out right now and they are available on Amazon for purchase. Dawn of the Trade,
Revenge of the Fallen Sons, and OverTaker Territory.
If
you could watch one scene from this book be played out like a movie, which one
would it be and why?
I like to think that I work on my
beginnings the longest, you know, needing to grab the writer’s attention and
all, but honestly, I truly love the final fight in the third book, OverTaker
Territory. It was a delight to read and it was a delight to write!
Tell us about what you are reading at the moment or anticipate reading in the future? Any favorite authors you enjoy reading in your spare time?
I am reading London Assault by Brian Drake, who is a writer who works for
the same company as I do, a friend, and a very good man who has helped me in
more ways than I care to admit. I am reading this along with a comic book, King
Spawn Vol 1. which kicks a delightful bit of ass. My favourite authors? At the
moment? Well, let’s just say I have a long list, but for now, read my fellow
Wolfpack brothers: Brian Drake, Mark Allen, and Michael A. Black!
What do you do when you have free time?
I do CrossFit, aikido, dance, go to the movies A LOT,
like to get outside, be outside, love my English bulldog, Bentley, and am very
close with family. A lot of what I do finds its way into my work, so if you’re
paying close attention…you’ll see it there.
How do you approach
character development in your stories? Do you have any specific techniques or
methods that you find particularly effective?
I think and then I write. I spend a lot of time planning
everything out, including my characters, considering their appearance,
personality, and other accompanying characteristics. However, some of them have
been known to surprise me. Often, I see where the story goes and discover the
characters as I go along. It’s a joy!
What do you believe
sets your writing apart from others in your genre, and why should readers
choose to read your books?
Writers should choose to read my books because I like to
surprise. My writing is genre, through and through. You get action, suspense,
good characters, a solid ride, but in the end, I am always interested in adding
a little spice, so my readers only THINK they know what’s coming. I want to
take a prototypical narrative, simple setting, and then blow it up.
You think you’re reading a book about bouncers in New
York City, but….
Can you discuss any
upcoming projects or books that you're currently working on? What can readers
expect from your future works?
Readers can expect more books. I want to work. I have a
lot of stories planned and I am very excited to get to them. My future works
will involve a lot of ass kicking, fist fights, twists, turns, good old
fashioned shake downs, fight to the deaths, and deep exploration of themes akin
to the genre itself. So long as I have people who want to read my work, I will
continue to produce what I have to in order to satisfy them!
His quest for direction takes an unexpected turn when a night out with an old friend introduces him to the pulsating heart of Manhattan’s nightlife at the exclusive nightclub, The Conquistador, where Jon, recognized for his resolve in a chaotic brawl, is drawn into the complex world of bouncing by the club’s charismatic head bouncer, Addison Krowe. With no experience but a soldier’s instincts, Jon enters the ranks of the legendary Doormen, discovering a realm defined by wealth, decadence, and the lurking dangers of organized crime and greed.
