by Beth Caudill
Series name/#: Willows Haven #3
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Publisher: Moonlight Mountain Books
For years, reluctant earth witch Daphne Lowe has feared the strength of her
powers. When she loses control, people are harmed. She already ruined Deputy
Sheriff Stanford Morgan’s life once, when their relationship ignited his
dormant magical powers and turned him into the legendary white stag. Getting
involved with him again would just hurt him more. She has to ignore her
feelings for him, and hope that someday he’ll stop loving her too.
Except the paranormal sanctuary of Willows Haven needs Daphne and Stanford
together—she must anchor the town’s mythical willow trees, and he serves as
guardian. Only then will the town’s supernatural residents be safe from the
outside world. Trapped together by a snowstorm, Daphne and Stanford have a
second chance at happiness if they can resolve their past issues.
When a dark witch invades the town, a final test of their commitment
emerges. To succeed, they’ll have to truly trust in each other and embrace the
power of their love.
Can a second chance at love survive vengeance from the past?

Excerpt Sneak Peek:
He cleared his throat. “Daph,
Simmons called. Annabel wants to see you. Dress in layers; the snow is picking
up. I’ll see you in five.”
Despite her rejection, he hadn’t
been able to wander too far from her. He’d never been able to decide if it was
the connection to the willow tree or just his heart’s desire for her. It didn’t
matter—she was unforgettable.
More like unreplaceable.
He’d tried so many times. But
Daphne was the one for him. Whether she wanted him or not.
Turning his car around at the
dead-end street, he stopped at the edge of her front sidewalk and blasted the
heat as she ran from the front door to the passenger side of the SUV. Who knew
this petite, black-haired woman with a hint of Japanese ancestry would be his weakness?
“It’s really coming down.” She
shook snowflakes from her shoulder-length hair. A few melted droplets added a
hint of a wave.
He couldn’t help but be mesmerized by
her. “Yeah, the weathermen missed the call on this system. Whatever sent the
cold temperatures south is going to wreak havoc with Christmas travelers
returning home.”
Most North Carolinians lacked the
right equipment for driving on snow—snow tires, chains, or bags of sand. Rarely
did the temperatures drop below freezing. During the day, precipitation melted,
leaving black ice as the greatest threat for drivers.
He didn’t envy the on-duty
patrolmen and emergency crews this week.
Silence lay heavy between them,
despite the steady swish of the wipers. He drove them past the Main Street
shops and onto the back roads leading around Gracelynne Lake. The twisty route
and whiteout conditions required his full attention to get them safely to the
cabin.
But he was aware of the runes she
rubbed in her pockets. No way to know which ones she carried, but he hoped
there was at least one positive one in the bunch. Otherwise, this was going to
be a very depressing trip.
He stopped in front of a small,
weathered log cabin. One that had been here for decades. The guardian being within
tingled a warning. He touched her arm. “Will you wait for me to help you out?”
At her nod, some of his anxiety
waned. He braced for the storm and entered the cold outside.
The wind whipped the large, fluffy
flakes into a frenzied dance. He couldn’t see beyond ten feet in front of him.
Instincts honed as a cop, and the magical spirit inside him, warned someone
watched.
They were probably concealed in the
trees on the land across the road. With the moon hidden behind clouds and the
snow coming down, only an excellent sniper would be able to fire upon them in
these conditions. Yet the awareness of them was enough to ratchet up his
nerves. Who were they? Why were they here now?
Was this something witchy, tied to Annabel’s impending death, or something else?
