Thanks for stopping by to talk a little about your writing!
Do you have a favorite genre?
Is it the same genre you prefer to write?
It definitely is the one I
prefer to write in. I am a romantic suspense junkie. If it has a military hero,
so much the better. Strong contemporary romance comes in second.
Do certain themes and ideas
tend to capture your writer’s imagination and fascinate you?
As I said, anything military pushes my hot buttons. I have a series called Heroes rising that is all about former SEALs, and other about Delta Force.
How do you
balance long-term thinking vs. being nimble in today's market?
It’s a lot tougher than it used to be. When I first started in this business 14 years ago I never thought past the next book. Now I have to plan out two years in advance and watch what titles are selling in advance to keep me on my toes.
How do you
find readers in today's market?
With a lot of hard work! I have my blog, my social media accounts, I do some advertising, I cross promote with authors of similar genres, participate in singings when there is no pandemic, anything I can become involved in that helps me attract readers from similar authors.
Do you come up with the hook first, or do you create characters first and then dig through until you find a hook? I usually create characters first. My stories are all character driven. The main characters who up in my brain first. Then I ask myself questions about them. Once in a while I get the hook first but not too often.
How do you create your characters? Wellllll……. I usually have an idea of their personalities. Then I add character traits, quirks, what if questions. That’s the easy part! Deciding what to do with them takes more effort.
What's on the top of your TBR pile right now? Rereading Allison Brennan’s Killing Fear. Next p: Homicide at Whiskey Gulch by Elle James.
Tell me a little about the
characters in Rawhide: Ace in the
Hole.
Since they all take place at a dungeon named Rawhide, they are very involved in the BDSM lifestyle. And they are different. The heroes are former military, ranchers, corporate execs. And the women, while su0bmissives, are still strong in their own right which attracts the Doms even more.
Where’s the story set? How
much influence did the setting have on the atmosphere/characters/development of
the story? the story is set in San
Antonio, Texas and surrounding towns. I created the series when I still lived
in Texas so where I lived had a very great influence on developing this. The
characters were actually based on people I met and the house where Rawhide is
located is designed like a real house in North San Antonio that I loved.
Wild, crazy, romantic,
exciting, fulfilling
How often does your muse distract you from day to day minutiae? Almost all the time! LOL!
What do readers have to look
forward to in the future from you?
More books in Susan Stoker’s
Special Forces World, in Elle James Brotherhood Protectors World, two more
books in the new Galaxy series, two more Phoenix Agency books, a
football-centered hot romance, more SEAL books, and um, I guess it goes on
forever. Coming this year from Wild Rose Press is Numbers Game in April with Liz Crowe, a second chance
romance, and the next book in the Guardian Security series. I won’t be bored!
Contemporary Erotic BDSM Romance
At the very exclusive dungeon, where only those with
connections gather to indulge their sexual fantasies, a new twist has been
added—a deck of cards. For each Master and sub, the choice of cards from their
deck determines their play for the night. Who knows what twists a game of
chance can bring.
Cut the Cards
Kelly LeBlanc was hot and aroused at being selected to
be part of a demonstration for Rawhide’s members and guests. A card game for
sex? What fun. But then she met the Dom, Tanner Sloat, and she found all her
wildest fantasies about to come true.
Blackjack
He was everything Nia March had ever dreamed about in
a Master, and more. And as he took her to levels higher than she’d even been,
touching something deep inside her, she wondered if she could protect her heart.
Texas Hold ‘em
Sage Drummond thought she’d never recover from the
effects of a relationship filled with cruelty, but she craved the role of sub.
When she tentatively dipped her toe in the waters at Rawhide, that last thing
she expected to find was a Master who would satisfy her needs as well as heal
her heart. Could it last?
Dealer’s Choice
Cade Sullivan was one the most in demand Dom, until a
tragedy sent him hiding from the world and out of the D/s life. Working at
Rawhide gave Fiona Wilder the urge to try the D/s life. Could she be the key to
make Cade forget the past and build a life with a sub that was all his?
Two of a Kind
They each brought their baggage to a night at Rawhide
that was supposed to be nothing but fun. A night of intense D/s play. Neither
expected the intense connections they made or how it would change their lives.
From Cut the Cards:
If Tanner hadn’t come
vetted by Reulas, Kelly might have had second thoughts about this. She was very
selective with her Doms, but the club owner wouldn’t put her with a man unless
he trusted him. Besides, she couldn’t remember the last time she’d felt such a
strong sexual pull, such a desire to do anything and everything with anyone, no
restrictions.
She smiled at him and
waited for him to precede her, following him with her head down and hands clasped
behind her back, already in her submissive role.
The alcove was barely
more than a niche in the wall as it curved back toward the hallway. It
contained a café table and two chairs and provided a modicum of privacy for two
people to conduct their negotiations away from the crowd. Tanner nodded for her
to sit, then opened the deck of cards.
“This is a new game to
you,” he told her, “so I would like you to make the first choices.”
She took a deep breath,
fanned out the cards, and started turning them over.
