Book blurb:

Excerpt: Love in Iquitos

The evening slanted toward night, and Petra began to relax. She gazed out the open windows at the passing couples. The sun set behind them, sending dueling lances of deep red and blue over their heads to splash down into the ferruginous Amazon. “It’s so beautiful here.”
Emory started out of his reverie, and she realized he hadn’t been staring at the river, but at her. “It is indeed. Shall we go?”
When she stood up, her head began to spin. He took her arm. “You must be exhausted. You need to get to bed.”
She didn’t argue, and by the time they reached the hotel, she could barely keep her eyes open. He gently laid her on the bed. “I’ll go make up the sofa.” She didn’t answer.
It was pitch black when she woke up. “Where am I?” She looked around. A light shone under a door. The hotel. Iquitos. Nicky. She swung her legs off the bed and headed toward the door. It opened into another dark room, but across the way a nightlight indicated the bathroom. Since I’m up, I might as well brush my teeth. She managed to make it there without incident, but on the return trip she ran smack into something hard. She felt with her hands. Must be the couch. Her hand encountered a face. “Oops, sorry!”
Emory caught her hand and pulled her to him. He kissed her fiercely.
“Stop it.” She pulled away.
He turned on a lamp and raised up on one elbow. “Well, you were pawing me. What did you expect me to do?”
“I…uh…I just tripped over you in the dark.”
“I see.” He watched her. For some reason she couldn’t move. “Shall I try it again?”
She looked down into that handsome face. A lock of hair had fallen over his brow. His face was flushed with sleep. So what if he’s a crook? “Uh-huh.”
Two minutes later, they landed on the bed.
