Happy St. Patrick's Day and some fun facts about it
*In Ireland, St. Patrick's Day is a religious holiday like Easter and Christmas.
*Erin go Bragh is translated into 'Ireland Forever'
*The very first St. Patrick's Day parade wasn't in Ireland but in Boston (USA) in 1737.
*The largest parade in the USA held since 1762, is New York City and that one draws more than a million people every year.
*Over 100 cities hold St. Patrick's Day parades and some of the biggest ones are in Chicago & Savannah, Georgia.
*In 1948, President Truman became the very first president to attend a St. Patrick's day parade.
*The city of Chicago enjoys celebrating St. Pat5rick's day they turn their river green for it.
*Green is associated with Saint Patrick's day as it the color of spring, of Ireland and of the shamrock.
*The Irish would dance around hawthorn trees (the home of leprechauns supposedly) and hope to catch one of them for good luck.
*St. Patrick was really a catholic saint and the patron saint of Ireland. He is often depicted holding a shamrock and wearing green.
*We celebrate St. Patrick's day on March 17th because Saint Patrick died on March 17th, 461.
*Legend has said that St. Patrick used the native shamrock as a symbol of holy trinity while he preached and brought t the Latin alphabet to Ireland.
