Thanks so much to
the lovely Dawn for hosting me today! It’s a real pleasure to be here.
Being a writer of erotic romance, I wanted
to talk with you about something romance-oriented. And what could be more
romantic than the love for one’s spouse? My hubby and I share a special
relationship. And there is one reason that really hits home for me. It’s not
his kindness and caring. It’s not about how cute he looks in a pair of jeans.
It’s not his beautiful blue eyes.
It’s the fact that hubby doesn’t mind my
boyfriends.
Now…don’t get me wrong. This isn’t that kind of story! I’ll kindly direct
you to the ménage page for that!
What I mean is that since I’ve put pen to
paper, I’ve made a career out of envisioning and describing incredible, sexy
heroes. It’s my job (sigh) to create men that women will fall in love with. I
like to call them my “imaginary boyfriends.”
And of course, I like to discuss my books
with my husband. It’s nice to get his feedback. And what, you ask, do those
conversations sound like? A little like this:
Rosanna: “Hubby,
I have a new idea for a book. I’m going to write about the Greek god Apollo.
Oh, he’ll be so hot! He’s gonna be big, really big, with gorgeous blue eyes
that sparkle, an amazing smile and very talented in the bedroom…. (Rosanna
trails off, dreamy look in her eyes)…So what do you think?”
Hubby: (glancing
up from political thriller book) “Uh, sounds great. Go for it.”
Rosanna:
“Awesome. I’ll get started right away…oh, but not tonight. Chicago Fire’s on tonight! I can’t miss it. In this episode, Casey
and Severide BOTH take their shirts off.”
Hubby: (returning
to political thriller) “You’ll enjoy that.”
Rosanna:
(pondering) Maybe I should write another firefighter book…God, I love
firefighters. Remember that time the local firefighters helped me push my car
when it got stuck in the snow?”
Hubby: “Yes,
dear. You talked about it every day for a month.”
Rosanna: (getting
excited) Maybe I can return to that station, ask for a tour and talk to a few
of the men there! See what makes them tick. Check out their turnout pants…see
where they sleep…”
Hubby: (shaking
head in silence)
Rosanna: Then
again, I did want to write another selkie book. (bites lip) God, I love selkie
mythology. It’s so drenched in, well, sex.”
Hubby: (looks up
again, an eyebrow cocked in my direction). “You’re a horny, old nut. And I love
you.”
Rosanna:
(blushing) “I love you too.”
See? Isn’t he
good to me? The poor, long-suffering man. Although to be fair, I do tolerate
his strange Kelly Clarkson fetish…
I guess marriage
is all about give and take.
Sunburn blurb:
Patience O’Conner is a travel blogger who lives for her work. Her
dedication to her readers brings her to the famed Helios Resort in Mexico , a locale
that stuns her with its beauty but at which she suffers from some very strange
accidents.
Luckily, hunky resort bartender Apollo Delos is always there in the nick of time, a malcontent guardian angel. Apollo stuns Patience again and again with his life-saving abilities, to say nothing of his smoldering looks and apparent desire to keep her alive.
Before long, Patience wonders if there is more to the sexy bartender than mixed cocktails and insane first-aid skills. Something strange is happening at Helios and Apollo doesn’t want to talk about it.
Can Patience open herself up to this enigmatic man, even though she is terrified to be vulnerable again? And can Apollo recover from an eternity of hurt and learn to trust once more? They must both decide before Death comes calling.
Sunburn Excerpt:
She approached the booth, only to find the
blond bartender manning it. Her eyes almost popped and she blurted, “You!”
He grinned, but there was still a tightness
around his eyes, as if he were sizing her up. “Hello, Patience.” His strained
expression said volumes about what he considered to be the unsuitability of her
name.
She tried to ignore the sucker punch in her
gut, the one that hit her as soon as his deep, velvety voice caressed her
eardrums. “Aren’t you supposed to be at the bar?”
His smile grew wider, showing off his
perfect white teeth. “I’m everywhere.”
“Clearly.” She forced herself to look away
from his gorgeous face, feeling light-headed because of the suns dancing in her
eyes, the suns that seemed to come from him. To distract herself, she touched a
few of the painted bowls on display. Not that it snuffed out those blasted
suns.
He stepped closer. “Do you see anything you
like?”
She choked on her saliva and coughed like a
victim of the Black Death. He rushed to calm her, putting his hand on her back,
massaging. She recovered upon feeling his touch and was hit by the bizarre,
fleeting notion his touch made her recover. As if he’d healed her.
Utter nonsense. Yet as much as it was
nonsense, her head swam with the bizarre possibility.
“Better?” he asked quietly, his face serious
now.
She stared into the man’s eyes. They were
blue, so very blue. “Uh, yeah, thanks.” Curiosity got the better of her and the
question poured out. “What’s your name anyway?”
He breathed in. “Apollo Delos.”
“Oh, wow,” she said, breaking into a grin.
“Just like Apolo Anton Ohno! I loved him on Dancing with the Stars!”
He got a curious look and let out a strange
laugh. “Yeah. Just like him.”
