Welcome Cynnara Tregarth today

I have the pleasure of having one of my good friends, Cynnara Tregarth, dropping in today to chat with me about books, guilty pleasures and more. She is, who I like to call the "Queen of mischief" and man is she good at it. *laughs*

For the readers out there who might not know about you or your work, can you please tell them a little about yourself.

My name is Cynnara Tregarth, I’ve been writing romance professionally since 2003. Somehow, I’ve acquired the ability to write erotic romance with BDSM elements that make even me squirm. It’s pretty fun.

How long have you been writing? What got you in to writing?
I’ve been writing my whole life, not to mention being a storyteller to neighborhood kids. Even in school, I was known to write both poetry and stories. *grins* What finally got me into writing romance was that I loved it, and I wanted to do something I always told my kids to do- reach for your dreams, even if it’s one you think you can never reach. For me, being an author was that dream.

Where do you get your ideas for your stories, characters?
You mean there are people out there that get ideas? My characters and story ideas normally hit me upside the head and begin movies in front of me. It’s sad, but there you have it—I have caller id in my head because otherwise there are other people yapping at me for their stories. It’s not pretty. Occasionally, I’ll hear something or see something and within the hour, I’ll have the first chapter and the synopsis of the story written because it just appealed to me so much.

Are you a by-the-seat-of-your-pants kind of writer, or do you have to use an outline to put your collective thoughts into some semblance of common sense?
I’m a hybrid. *grins* Notice my specialness. LOL I basically write my first chapter or two first. Then I go back and write the synopsis, the blurb, and I note what major points have to be in the story. Then I free write from that point to the major points I need to hit. It seems to work for me. It’s actually a workshop I teach for those who want a bit more structure, but not want to give up the freedom of writing freely.

Tell us all about your latest or upcoming release. What inspired it?
My latest release is Dragon Chef: Pixified at Changeling Press. Fellow author and partner in crime, Selena Illyria , was my inspiration and whip holder while I wrote the book. *grins* Basically, if you know Selena, you know she’s short—like a pixie. So when she demanded HER STORY, I figured she needed someone big and bold to contain her—thus a dragon named Pierce, who not only was hot looking, but a talented chef as well. (Think of him as being a cross of Azael in Hex and Chef Robert Irvine in looks and talents!) She needs Pierce to cater this special dinner that her mother is hosting, knowing that Pierce does not do last minute requests. So she finally offers the one thing she’s wanted from the beginning to him—herself.

Here’s the blurb: Pierce the Dragon finally has the kitchen of his dreams to help with his catering business. As he breaks it in, making his signature pesto dish, in comes the peskiest pixie around, Selena. Doesn't matter that she's there to get Pierce catering a pixie event she doesn't want to be at. He doesn't want to be disturbed. So it's going to take all her skills to seduce the dragon of her dreams to do her bidding -- even if it's the last fun thing she'll ever have. Who knows? Perhaps Pierce will find that sometimes pesky pixies pack a punch just like his pesto does.

If you had super powers, what would they be? Why?
I’d be psychic like Jean Grey. I’d have a combination of telepathy, telekinesis and for shits and giggles, some empathic skills too.

What genre haven’t you tried yet but want to in the future?
You’ve been spying on me, haven’t you? *looks around* I’m actually hoping to write a mystery/thriller in the future. It’s one thing I’ve not done and I want to do badly!

What is one thing readers might be surprised to know about you?
I’m insane? Okay, that might not be that surprising. Actually, people would be surprised at how hard I’m finding it to cope with adult Attention Deficit Disorder. Though my docs say I’ve had it my entire life, I had other issues that helped me to cope with the disorder itself. Once those things disappeared, I’m literally learning at my age how to cope with things that sometimes drive me batty—especially since I do not like to lose control and focus. It’s a major battle and I find myself reading the ADD books I bought when my oldest son was diagnosed to try to help myself settle down and get writing.

If we asked your muse to describe you in three words, what do you think they might say?
*laughs hysterically* Those words aren’t fit for anyone under the age of 30. However, that said, they’d probably say that I don’t listen enough, I don’t write fast enough anymore, and my caboose is in front of my train of late. LMAO

What authors can be found in your library of books?
*grins and points to both the print and the digital library* I have over 5000 books. I have MANY authors. LMAO Okay, let’s see—Raine Delight, Selena Illyria, Anne Kane, Lena Austin, Joanne Fluke, DeeDee Scott, JA Konrath, Lisa Gardner, Suzanne Rock, Julie Leto, Tori Carrington, Jayne Castle, Elizabeth Peters…just to name a few. *grins*

Have any guilty pleasures you want to share with us?

If it means you share my guilt—sure! Anything chocolate. Gods, I LOVE chocolate. I can also be bribed. Ask Selena. Teavana.com is a guilty pleasure since I’ve discovered tea that I can drink. Oh, and my Nook Color. Nook Nook is a huge guilty pleasure because it’s way too easy now to lay down and read when I should be working or doing something else like typing up the handwritten pages I’ve done each day. LOL

Is there anything you’re currently working on that you can give us a taste of?

*looks around* Depends. *grins* I am working on a few things, but currently, I’m trying to finish Pirate Queen’s Captive for submission. I’m thrilled about this story because the original idea came from my male’s favourite fantasy. I took it, shifted it around and put it into the future and I’ve been thrilled with it ever since.

Here’s the blurb for it:  Captain Dria Von Carnelian is the most feared pirate in space, though her true identity is one that many trust with their lives. Yet for those within the Gamma Quadrant, she’s a woman to be feared, most especially if you happen to be Lord Alan Robertson, the Federated Planet’s chosen leader for the area. When Dria’s alter ego agrees to help Alan see to the issues going on within the quadrant, she hopes to show him just why the pirate queen takes the actions she does. Yet, time and again, he seems to not see past the rhetoric of short view taken by the Federation. When push comes to shove on a mining planet that services much of the galaxy, she realizes it’ll take something much more drastic to reach through the mental brainwashing that Alan’s received. In the end, she can only hope the relationship they’ve developed will turn him into something more than just The Pirate Queen’s Captive.

When creating your characters, do you have models in mind or are they totally fictional?

Yes and no. I’m lucky that I see them in my head, but sometimes, I need to search for them or create them in Daz3d or another cgi program. *grins*

If you could be an immortal, what would you want to be? Why?
Does the Goddess of Tease ring a bell? I’m just saying. LOL

What is the hardest/the easiest part of writing for you?

The easiest thing is starting. The hardest part is being consistent and writing regularly and finishing a story.

Are you in control of your characters or do they control you?
It’s a battle. Don’t you see the scars I wear? Those aren’t from my husky. LOL

Please tell us where we can find you on the web.

An organized dragon chef and a pesky pixie needing a final fling. A recipe for love or disaster?

Pierce the Dragon finally has the kitchen of his dreams to help with his catering business.

Pierce looked around his renovated kitchen, which was both private and professional. He was happy everything was finally in its proper place, and that his catering business would be able to continue without any further delays. It wasn't easy being a full-blooded Dragon who catered not only to the royalty in the mortal world but in the immortal realm as well.
Luckily, he didn't have an event to worry about until the next day, when he had to start preparations for the royal wedding between Mystra the Seelie fae princess and her soon-to-be hubby, Prince Raynor Petrov of the werewolf clan of the same name. He was happy his two friends were marrying, but at the same time, he wished he could have the same kind of happiness. However, "everyone" knew that Dragons mated for babies, not to live together.
Ha! The lies we let other races believe about us is unimaginable sometimes! Baby-making wasn't going to happen anytime soon, since most female Dragons thought he was gay because of his cooking profession.
Dismissing the thought, he waved one hand toward the refrigerator in the back corner and called out what he needed. Using his magick around his kitchen made things easier, especially as he knew where everything was located.
"Fresh basil and pine nuts to the counter." Gesturing toward one particular cabinet, he called out again, "Extra virgin olive oil, cumin, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and oregano." They flew out of the cabinet and landed neatly on the counter in front of him. Without any thought to the amounts, he began putting in basil, Dragon-roasted pine nuts, sea salt, fresh cracked pepper, a touch of cayenne, but held off adding the olive oil to the food processor. Pierce flipped the switch, watching the ingredients meld together in strong sweeps of the blades. Carefully guarding his glasses, he poured in the oil, a teaspoon at a time, until the consistency was just about perfect.
A noise at his back door caught his attention. "Who the hell would be stupid enough to bother me after lunch, when everyone knows I'm prepping for tomorrow's catering events?" Stopping the food processor, Pierce stomped over to the door, trying hard to control his temper. He flung open the door and looked around. "All right, whoever you are, if you don't tell me what you want, I'll fry you with fire!"
A flash of purple blasted past his shoulder, and a sweet, melodic voice spoke as he turned around. "I need your help, Pierce. You're the only one who can pull this off. So get your things and let's go. We don't have time to waste. The Pixie queen needs her supper party catered tonight, and you're the only one who can make it happen." The Pixie grew to human height and tugged at his arm. "Come on, we don't have all day, Pierce."
Recognizing the curvy Pixie, Pierce groaned inwardly. Selena. She was the peskiest Pixie to ever walk the mortal or immortal realms and the only one who could get under his Dragon skin. With how her mind and mouth worked, she made hummingbirds on crack look slow. Now she wanted him to leave his brand new kitchen for what? "Selena, calm down and repeat yourself. What do you need me for?"
Selena's shapely foot tapped his floor impatiently. "I told you. Her Highness, Queen Petunia of the Pixies, needs a supper meal catered immediately, and you're the only one who can make it work. Now, grab your chef's bag and some food, and let's get this done and over with so we can talk about the next Pixie bash I want you to do for me."
Pierce looked over the top of his glasses at Selena, making her fidget before his gaze. "No. It took three weeks for the repairs to be made to my kitchen from the last time you demanded my immediate attentions. No, Se, I don't think so. Tell Petunia to find someone else to muddle her meal for her. I'm not available for another month."
Her lush lower lip came out as her hands slid down to her curvy hips. "But, Pierce, you always help out us Pixies. We didn't mean to cause a fire in your own kitchen. I asked you to come with us so you wouldn't ruin the kitchen. It's not like you're making anything import --"
"My pesto!" Pierce rushed past a surprised Selena and looked into the food processor. The mound of green looked over-oiled, and Pierce let out a bellow of smoke. "You ruined my pesto, you freaking pesky Pixie. I ought to punish you for messing up my signature dish!"
He didn't see Selena until her long brown hair, tipped with purple, brushed against his arm. "It doesn't look that bad. Just add a bunch more green stuff to it, and it'll thicken right up. Or use some cornstarch or something." She stopped when he glared at her. "What? Can't you do that?"
"No. I. Cannot." He growled and removed the bowl from the processor, stomping toward the sink. "Now I'll have to redo this from the beginning. I can't just toss something else in it and have the same dish, now, can I?"
Selena's voice sounded soft. "But why can't you use that stuff in something else to make a sauce? Or maybe a marinade? You know, stuff you can lick off a gorgeous body like yours?"
Pierce stopped. There's no way in hell he just heard Selena not only tell him to make do, but that she wanted to lick the sauce off his body. Pixies were annoying though very sexual creatures, but they didn't mix with Dragons. Pixies wouldn't be able to stand their intense sexual desires -- at least, that was the assumption most Dragons made. Though, he did wonder about Selena from time to time.
"What did you just say?" He faced her, his gaze looking over the rims of his glasses. "Say that again. You know, the last part about licking."
"Iwannalickthesauceoffyourgorgeousbody. You'resofuckinghot, Pierce," she squeaked out as he stepped toward her. Her breathing was shallow and fast. Her arousal lit the space between them, and he stopped in his tracks. The Pixie really wanted him! Did she have a clue what she'd be in for?
