How Dragon Chef: Pixified got its start by Cynnara Tregarth

How Dragon Chef: Pixified got its start by Cynnara Tregarth

I love learning how certain stories got their start. It’s a fascinating process, especially when you get a chance to see the process from the beginning onwards. So, I figured I’d share how my latest release, Dragon Chef: Pixified, got its start.

The idea for the story actually is due to Selena Illyria, the heroine in the story. She was pushing me for her own story. Mind you, I hadn’t thought of her beyond being a pushy little pixie, since she’s shorter than me and well, if you’ve ever heard Selena talk, she’s got pixie language down perfectly! *pokes the Selena* So, in protection of my sanity, I asked her what kind of hero she wanted. Her response of “I want a handsome dragon, but he’s got to look like the guy from Hex,” had me curious if I could pull it off. Especially when I had this sudden urge to make this dragon a chef—like Iron Chef America. Since we’re both foodies, I knew Selena would approve of her hero’s occupation!

Suddenly, I had an opening scene, which I have to admit, is one of my favourites that I’ve ever written. Little did I realize when I started the story, it’d actually be a way to not only get into Changeling Press, but also be the start of retraining my writing since my diagnosis with adult ADD. For years, my depression had allowed me a way to function past the ADD, until my breakdown. Suddenly, this new diagnosis meant I had to relearn how to write and how to concentrate. It’s not been easy, which is why I’m grateful for Selena’s pushing and shoving for her story. It’s been a major coping factor as I learned how to move forward in not just my writing skills, but also in giving me a chance to grow as a writer.

So, I hope you enjoy this little insight into my latest book, Dragon Chef: Pixified. It’s a tale of a pixie’s final fling before all hell breaks loose and a dragon who realizes he’s got a woman who can match his every need, if only he’s willing to let her. It’s a quick, sensuous read that will let you enjoy the rest of your day and give you a happy smile when you get to the end.

Enjoy!

Pierce the Dragon finally has the kitchen of his dreams to help with his catering business. As he breaks it in, making his signature pesto dish, in comes the peskiest pixie around, Selena. Doesn't matter that she's there to get Pierce catering a pixie event she doesn't want to be at. He doesn't want to be disturbed. So it's going to take all her skills to seduce the dragon of her dreams to do her bidding -- even if it's the last fun thing she'll ever have. Who knows? Perhaps Pierce will find that sometimes pesky pixies pack a punch just like his pesto does.
