Getting to know Raine Delight

Why don't you start us off by telling us how you discovered/decided you wanted to become a writer?

A: It was by chance actually. I always loved to read and never anticipated to becoming a writer at all. I think I was undecided between a paralegal and a librarian. That is until my one friend a few years ago suggested I write something after I complained about the countless too stupid to live characters I was reading about. The rest is history after that.  J

Do you have a favorite TV show you can't miss?

A: Actually I have several I follow on DVD since we don’t really watch tv in the house. I love watching season dvd’s of CSI (all of the shows), Criminal Minds, Firefly, Farscape, Castle, Glee and several others.

What is your writing process? Do you outline, fly by the seat of your pants or a combination of both?

A: Oh god the one time I did an outline for a book, my characters went the total opposite and just about decimated the entire outline. I learned my lesson and just fly by the seat of my pants. Give me a blank word doc and I am in heaven. J

So what is your latest or upcoming book about? Give us all the details behind this masterpiece.

A: Not sure on the masterpiece title. *laughs*

I recently signed with two new publishers so a lot of my upcoming releases are a mix of new releases and releasing previous backlisted titles.

Upcoming is a new book at Shadowfire Press and it’s my ode to my love of Firefly and Pirates of the Caribbean. J

Space Pirates: Bounty is a new venture for me as I got this plot bunny from an obscure article on the internet on what would happen if gamma rays hit the Earth. From there, these three characters jumped all over me. *grins* Needless to say, I listened and I wrote my first MMF ménage. I sweated bullets for this book since I was scared to death writing my first MM scenes and then trying to make sure I had all the aspects of the world I was creating correct. 

Space Pirates: Bounty is what I like to call a dash of Firefly with a sprinkle of Capt. Jack from POTC movies and a little of “What if?” Stir and here is my version. I hope readers enjoy it when it comes out.

What are your thoughts on love scenes in romance novels, do you find them difficult to write?

A: Sometimes I get tired of writing them but I find if I take a break and let my mind relax, maybe by reading a non-erotic story or watching one of my dvd’s, I find I can come up with something fresh and fun. The main thing is to make sure I don’t do the same thing over and over so I try to mix it up. A little spanking, a little bdsm, something that will make it different and fresh.

Who are some of your favorite authors, and if we were to visit your home, what books would we find on your bookshelf, end table, floor or e-reader?

A: Oh man *laughs* You mean I need to go over my four bookcases and several boxes and look??? That is just my print collection too. I still have my flash drive and e-reader full of books there.

I love, love, love many authors. From Sherrilyn Kenyon to Debbie Macomber to Nora Roberts/JD Robb to LA Banks and more. I would literally be here for days on end writing all my favorite authors here. J

On my ebooks, I gravitate to MM authors more but I do enjoy an occasional M/F story as well. From Sue Brown, Josh Lanyon, Marie Sexton, Kayelle Allen, Sloane Taylor and Cherise Sinclair to many more that I admire. I love finding new authors to explore.  

If you could date any character from any book, who would it be and why?

A: Oh man, that is so hard but hands down it would probably be Roarke from JD Robb’s In Death series. He is so sexy, mysterious and man, the love he and Eve have is so profound and strong it’s amazing.

Could you tell us about any work-in-progress, current projects, what we can expect from you in the future?

A: *laughs* You asked for it….

A biography has been written about you. What do you think the title would be?

A: Give me Chocolate and Coffee and you will live!

Have you ever found that you didn’t like your Hero or your Heroine? If so, what did you do to change that?

A: I haven’t run into that problem…yet. I normally end up falling in love my characters and hoping they come back for m ore books. LOL

What do you do to unwind and relax?  

A: *laughs hysterically* Relax……Right…..I work two part time jobs on top of my writing plus two kids ages 11 and 9 and my DH take much of my free time but some nights I end up either watching DVD’s, reading or playing Video games with DH. When the weather is nice here, we go hiking at local state parks or vegging with family and friends.

 Is there a genre you haven’t done that you would like to explore in the future? 

A: I would love to do more MM but am just dipping my toe in that field. J

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

A: That you do a lot of marketing for yourself and your books. Most of my week is taken up doing promotion and that takes away from my writing but it’s a necessary evil. 

What is your favorite candy bar?

A: I don’t eat much candy but I like to munch on Twizzler bites or reeses pieces. 

When you looked in the mirror this morning, what was the first thing you thought?

A: Oh hell, I need to jump in the shower and man I need coffee.

What is your favorite pizza?

A: I love mushrooms and black olives on my pizza.

What genres and authors would we find you reading when taking a break from your own writing?

A: Anything from James Rollins thrillers to Bertrice Small’s historicals to my MM authors such as Josh Lanyon, Sue Brown and others.

If I was a first time reader of your books, which one would you recommend I start with and why?

A: Right now only one is available with many others coming from now until 2012. I have Fantasies Unbound out now at Shadowfire Press with a sexy new cover and it was previously released under the title as Fairy Kisses and Magical Dreams.

It’s about a fae prince searching for his destined mate but alas cannot find her in the fae kingdom his mother rules. To avoid the arranged marriage if he doesn’t find the woman he is meant to be with, he ventures into the human world and ends up finding much more than he bargains for. An enchanted Faberge Egg, a meddling mother and love play in this story.
