Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Wistful Whispers is an irresistible battle of the wills where surrendering to forbidden temptation could cost them everything.
I never promised forever.
A good time? Absolutely.
Heartbreak? Only if they got too attached. My reputation as a quiet playboy precedes me—women talk, and my ‘talents’ follow me wherever I go. But I’ve always been upfront. No commitments. No expectations. No complications.
Marcella Delgado is nothing but complications. Brilliant. Fierce. Eight years older. And the attorney trying to take down my boss in a malpractice case. She should hate me on sight—hell, she does. But that doesn’t stop the heat between us from igniting the moment we meet.
She’s heard the stories about me firsthand, right there in the depositions. She knows exactly what I’m good at, and even though she fights it, I can see the temptation in her eyes.
One night. One line crossed.
Now my future’s unraveling—and she might be the only thing I don’t want to let go.For the first time, I want it all.
And I’ll fight like hell to be the man she can’t leave behind.
Author Interview with Kaylene Winters
Tell us about your latest book, who are the main characters
and what we can expect when we pick it up.
Wistful Whispers
is a sizzling, emotional age-gap romance between a curvy, take-no-shit attorney
and the younger neurosurgery resident she never saw coming. Marcella is older,
brilliant, and laser-focused on justice even when it means going after Seamus’
mentor in a medical malpractice case. Seamus is sharp, charming, and
oh-so-talented… in many ways. It’s
taboo. It’s messy. It’s about second chances, steamy obsession, and ultimately,
choosing love—even when everything says you shouldn’t. Expect banter,
heartache, heat, and one unforgettable HEA.
Taking the story from a concept to
a published book is a long and involved process. How does that usually work for
you?
Every book starts with a spark. Usually a character dynamic
I can’t shake. I live in their heads for a while, scribble down key moments,
and once I know the emotional arc, I build the bones. From there, it’s my writing
sprints, obsessive editing, and a lot of yelling into the void (and at my poor
outline which the character’s refuse to adhere to). Once it’s polished, I work
with a killer team of editors, designers and marketing teams to bring it into
the world.
Which of your books would you
recommend for readers to choose first if they’re new to you and your books?
If you’re into angsty rockstar romance, start with my first
book, Endless. The entire world of
Kaylene Winter starts there. If you want something more emotionally layered
with family drama and swoony Irish brothers, Wistful Whispers
is a perfect entry point. Either way, expect strong heroines, hot heroes, and
all the feels.
We are very curious about your
writing process. What is a typical writing day like for you?
My writing process is simple: find time every day, no matter
what, to get words on the page. Sometimes that’s an uninterrupted stretch in
the morning, sometimes it’s ten stolen minutes between meetings or before bed.
I show up for the story, even if it’s messy. Consistency over perfection,
always.
What trope have you not written
yet but want to?
I’m dying to do a marriage of convenience with extremely inconvenient chemistry.
Or maybe a super slow burn fake relationship that turns very, very real.
Anything where longing is baked into every line.
How do you approach character
development in your stories? Do you have any specific techniques or methods
that you find particularly effective?
Voice is everything for me. I write in deep first person, so
I spend a lot of time figuring out who each character is when no one’s
watching. What scares them. What excites them. What they’d never admit out
loud. Once I know that, the dialogue practically writes itself. I also track
each character’s emotional arc scene by scene, so their growth feels natural
and earned.
What do you believe sets your
writing apart from others in your genre, and why should readers choose to read
your books?
I write deeply emotional, character-driven love stories that
aren’t afraid to explore hard things shame, family trauma, loss, identity. I do
it with a modern, sexy voice that doesn’t shy away from heat or humor. My books
are immersive, high-stakes, and rooted in fierce, vulnerable connection. If you
love stories where characters feel like real
people, you’ll feel at home with mine.
Can you discuss any upcoming
projects or books that you're currently working on? What can readers expect
from your future works?
Next up are the Fireball twins: Padraig’s book (Forever Flames) is an emotional second-chance romance full of unresolved heartbreak, secret revelations, and the kind of tension you can feel. Liam’s story (Hushed Harmony) follows shortly after. I’s a bold, beautiful triad romance that explores identity, secrecy, and unconventional love in the spotlight. Both are full of angst, music, steam, and McGloughlin family drama. I’m also releasing a set of novellas with a travel theme and next year I’ll start my chef series!
