VBT Stop for Elven Blood/Contest

Please give a warm welcome to author Debra Dunbar who joins us today to talk about her latest release, Elven Blood.

To get us started can you tell us a little about what you are working on or have coming out?
I’m working on the forth book in the Imp series (working title is Empty):   Someone is killing demons, leaving nothing behind but an empty shell.  When two angels are found dead in the same manner, a full-on manhunt for the perpetrator begins.  As a devouring spirit, Sam is the prime suspect.  She’ll have to find the real killer and bring him or her to justice before she winds up paying for the crime.
I also have 2 more of my erotic romance series, Naughty Mom, in edit, and am writing Dead Shift, a paranormal thriller.  It’s a busy year for me!

Are your characters able to love or do they need to be taught?
Sam definitely learns to love, although I think the seeds of caring were within her all along.  After forty years living among humans she’s developed strong relationships.  That’s really her redemption path – love and friendship with humans, werewolves, and even an angel have led her to act selflessly.
She’s still a bad girl though.  After all, she is an imp!

Coffee, tea or other drink to get you moving in the morning?
I drink a copious amount of coffee.  Coffee flavored coffee – none of that fancy-smancy stuff!
My family tried to get me one of those Keurig  coffee machines that are all the rage and I refused.  I’d go nuts if I had to make twelve cups of coffee one at a time.  One of these days I’m just going to start drinking it from the pot.

If you had a reporter follow you around for the day, what would the readers get to see in your daily schedule?
Oh my!  Me, still in my fleecy pajamas at noon on a conference call, trying to squeeze in tweets and write blogposts.  I’d frantically change into actual clothing just before getting the kids off the bus, because I’m embarrassed to let the bus driver see me in the pajamas I was wearing when I put the kids on the bus.  We’d all eat frozen pizza, or frozen chicken nuggets, or frozen fish sticks, which I’ve hopefully had the foresight to cook before plopping on the table.  Then after the kids go to bed, I’ll have a much-needed glass (or two or four) of wine while I write until I can’t keep my eyes open any longer.
Rinse and repeat!

What do you do when characters stop talking to you when writing?
When that happens, it’s time to lace up the running shoes and head out.  Running for me is like meditation- the rhythmic tempo of my feet hitting the pavement, the smell of alfalfa in the field, the sun on my face.  My brain begins to flow, and scenes free-form in my mind.  By the time I get back home, everything is yearning to get out of my head and onto paper.

Is music a factor for you while you are writing? Do certain songs put you in the right frame of mind to write certain stories?
Sam is a big fan of mushy, 70’s soft rock, so I listen to songs like “We Just Disagree” by Dave Mason, “Magnet and Steel” by Walter Egan, and “Just Remember I Love You” by Firefall.  Yes, I really did listen to Carpenters music when writing that one scene in Elven Blood.  Sometimes though I need AC/DC, Rob Zombie, Scorpions, or Foreigner to get me going.

Teaser Excerpt for Elven Blood

Sam may be the Iblis, but she is also an imp with a price on her head.  The powerful demon Haagenti won’t rest until she’s dragged back to Hel for “punishment”.  Sam knows she can’t face Haagenti and win, so when an Elf Lord offers to eliminate the demon in return for her help, Sam accepts.  It’s a simple job – find and retrieve a half-breed monster dead or alive.  But finding this demon/elf hybrid isn’t proving easy and time is running out.

Great interview - the questions were much more interesting but still had the same meat as other interviews I've read. Book 4 of the IMP series sounds like way fun... can't wait! Got a release date yet, Debra?

Book 4 should be out in October. I know it's a long delay, but Book 5 will be hot on its heels in December.
