Guest Author Day with Sean Michael

Thank you to Dawn for hosting me on the Reading Nook today.

Dawn asked me what my fantasy cast would be if A New Way to Dance were to be made into a movie.

This is always a hard question for me because the guys show up in my head and they look like themselves, if you see what I mean. However, I can totally find a couple of actors I’d love to see play them who come close to the pictures in my head.

For Seth, I could totally see Ewan McGregor playing him, but he’d have to work hard to get a dancer’s body! He’s also not quite tall enough. He’s got the right look and the acting chops, though. Chris Evans has the right height and look, but he would need to streamline his muscles.

For Brook, I think Matt Bomer fits the bill. He’s got the right hair, the intense eyes, and the right body type.

And wouldn’t they be so pretty together? Yes, indeed they would.

Synopsis

Dancer Seth Avery has it all. He’s at the top of his game as a dancer and he’s in love with famous dance director Fayden DelMonaco, the man who is his sub. Seth’s whole world is turned upside down when Fayden dumps him in the nastiest and most public way possible. To compound matters, he’s in near fatal car crash shortly thereafter that leaves him severely injured.
Brook Turner is an ex-lawyer turned micro-brewer, baby-brother of Seth’s best friend Lizzie. The two met briefly before Seth’s accident, but it’s when they meet again six years later that they get a chance to act on the attraction they’d initially felt.
With Brook’s help, Seth begins to heal not only from his residual physical injuries, but also from the emotional ones inflicted by Fayden. Will it be enough to keep the two of them together?
Join Seth and Brooke as they find a new way to dance together.

Excerpt:

He smiled against Seth’s lips, looking into amazing blue eyes.
“This is very unusual, Brook.”
“That I’m kissing a good-looking man in my living room? It has been a while but I don’t let that stop me.”
“No?” Seth chuckled. “I’ve never kissed someone in your living room before.”
God, Seth was funny, charming. It was unexpected. Laughing, he cupped Seth’s cheek and bent in for another kiss. Usually his hook-ups were fiery, intense, wild, and this was quiet, gentle.
There was something about Seth that brought out the protector in him. He’d had the same instinct the first time they’d met, too.
Brook slowly spread Seth’s lips, slipping his tongue between them.
Seth let him in, then backed off, easing them down again.
He rubbed their noses together, took another kiss. This one sparked a flame, and Seth swallowed a soft moan. He hummed and slipped his tongue back into Seth’s mouth.
Brook wanted to wrap around Seth, surround him and hold him, learn him. Fucking Seth’s mouth with his tongue, he let his hand slide along the man’s jaw.
Seth reached out for him, hand wrapping around his bicep.
Oh yes. He stroked Seth’s neck in approval. He felt the swallow moving his hand. Brook licked Seth’s lips and teased the man’s tongue into his mouth.

Excerpt 2:

“Did you see USA Today, man?” Julian plopped down, eyes wide. “Fayden is… Well, he’s not naming names, but…”
Seth looked at one of his oldest friends and arguably the best choreographer he knew and tried not to growl. “I saw.”
He saw. His brother saw. His mom saw. His neighbor. Fayden’s sister. Ernie at the fucking convenience store where he bought his daily diet energy shot saw.
“World-Famous Director Escapes from Abusive Sex-Slave Relationship! Says He Feared for His Life!”
Sex slave.
Christ.
Ten years they’d been together. He’d been nineteen when he’d met Fay. Nineteen and horny and amazed that a man almost twenty years his senior with money and power and the most beautiful eyes on earth would want a dancer in the chorus.
“It’s all lies,” Julian told him. “You should sue him.”
“Just drop it, Jules. It’s no big deal.”
Just a huge, life-changing, world-altering deal.
Julian’s eyebrow went up, the man not saying another word but still speaking volumes.
“What do you want me to say? I… I don’t have anything.” He had an apartment. The cops had let him take his car and computer—after they’d copied the hard drive for evidence.
Evidence.
Christ.
“Honey, I’m on your side here.” Julian hugged him.
“I know. I do. Thank God for that.” Who else would he have called from the jail? His lawyer was Fay’s. His friends were Fay’s. Julian was it. His saving grace.
“Come on out with me tonight. There’s a new bar that we haven’t ever been to—he won’t be there.”
“No. Not yet. I’m not going out right now. I need to recover.” Seth needed his space.
“You need someone to take the bad taste of that asshole out of your mouth,” Julian said.
Seth blinked, then started laughing, deep, full belly laughs that felt so good. God, this sucked so hard. “I caught him with another man. That new dancer. Dylan.”
Dylan was nineteen now. Ah, the irony.
“Shit, he’s old enough to be that boy’s grandfather!”
“Yeah. Well, you know…” Seth was going to lie down and die, simple as that. Okay, he wasn’t, but he was going to pretend to, mentally.
“You think we should warn Dylan what a predator asshole he is?”
“Poor, innocent, victimized Fay?” He shrugged. “You wait. I’ll stop getting jobs soon.” It was inevitable.
Julian shook his head. “That’s not fair.” Seth noticed that his friend didn’t say it wasn’t going to happen.
“Life’s not fair. I have to work out and head home. I have an audition for a music video in the morning.” Hopefully he’d make a good impression. It would be good to put some money in the bank before the jobs started drying up.
Julian hugged Seth tight. “If there’s anything I can do, honey…”
“I love you, honest. Maybe we’ll meet for brunch on Sunday? Somewhere new?” Somewhere the paparazzi and Fayden wouldn’t be.
“You got it. Text me the deets.”
“Absolutely.” He grabbed his coffee and headed out of the little coffee shop outside of the studio he’d rehearsed in most of his adult life.
He was going to lose that too, he’d bet. Everything was going to just disappear because Fay had decided to trade him in for a younger model and was doing it in the nastiest way possible. Seth could feel everyone staring at him, could hear people talking about him.
He couldn’t stand it anymore and it was only going to get worse.
“Hey. Seth. I…” Lizzie Bean came up, took his arm, the leggy dancer as tall as he was. They’d worked together a hundred times at least. “I don’t know what to say except that I love you, man, and people suck.”
He made this weird half-tickled, half-surprised sound. “They totally do. God, they do.”
“Come have supper with us? Mel is grilling chicken.”
Mel was an amazing cook. And it was tempting, being with people who wouldn’t look at him like he was a monster.
“Please. Come on. You look exhausted and I promise to just feed you foods with no real calories and ply you with wine.” She put her hand on his arm. “Please.”
“God, you’re so demanding.” Seth nodded, though, found a smile. “Let’s go.”
She beamed at him and slid her hand into the crook of his elbow when they started to walk. Lizzie and Mel lived not that far from the studio in a converted loft with the most amazing roof garden full of potted trees and flowering plants and several large raised areas where they grew vegetables.
Mel was big into farm-to-table cooking and tried to grow as much of his own produce as he could.
Lizzie told him a story about one of Mel’s nephews—the man had far too many nieces and nephews to keep track of—who had gotten a skateboard for his birthday and become the terror of the neighborhood.
Seth tried to laugh in all the right places. Every so often he’d catch sight of himself in a window, just the barest hint, and he’d sigh. He’d really thought Fay was his Mr. Right. They’d been into the same things, the chemistry had been off the charts, they were uber-compatible in bed…

WRITERS WRITE... WRITING PARTNERS FEUD ~ ANGELS - Hael

Over the next several weeks, we will be sharing excerpts of the angelic characters from a work in progress, THE DARKNESS WITHIN, Book Three by Angelica Hart and Zi.

ANGEL WINGS OF HOPE

Aether - Hael’s Tale of Kindness

Hael: Angel of Kindness

The more you believe in angels, the more you see them all around, in friends, family and acquaintances. It’s amazing how much goodness you can see if only you believe. Wherever you go, whatever you do, may God’s angels watch over you. ~ Australia

The angel held out a fish, and the Osprey scooped from the sky and snared the meal. Hael liked to fish, and either threw his catch back into the stream or shared it with the predatory birds. It was strange how the Aether’s inhabitants imitated life on Earth. None needed to eat or sleep but mostly all did so for pleasure sake. The Osprey could even think of a fish and there it would be ready to practically jump into its mouth. Yet, hunting its own or believing it snared it from Hael, was more rewarding.

Just as having a small pack of critters following him about like pets tickled him. There was Digit, a toy Bichon Frise, who lived in the front pocket of Hael’s overalls. Then there was Ivory, a chocolate lab, Trible, an ornery rabbit that kept stealing Digit’s food, Puddles, a Stallion who found humor in peeing on angel’s feet and a variety of others from snails, to turtles, to various birds.

Did Hael inspire their beauty and kindness or did they inspire his?

From afar one would think he was an angel of animals, but Hael was the Angel of Kindness. He oozed kindness and appeared more human than angelic. He was over six and a half feet tall, long and lean while gray-white hair rippled down to his waist, hiding stringy webbed wings that looked like intricate cobweb lacing. He had a hawk nose, small eyes, an assemblage of wrinkles crisscrossed his face, giving him the appearance of longevity. Freckles and age spots adorned large knuckled pale hands. Bare pigeons feet caused an awkward gait. His smile contained crooked teeth, yet, it didn’t deter from the warmth and gentleness it offered. Legend suggested that Hael’s unconditional kindness softened even the most hardened heart. The few demons who strayed into his path ended up wanting to return to heaven’s grace. Most demons steered far away, fearing his kindness was contagious.

“What’s that Digit?” Hael held up the little pup and listened with his mind. “Good idea.”

Hael spent his existence shedding kindness through all dimensions, and especially liked to nudge a small kindness into something that touched many.

He stroked Digit’s furry wings. “A very good idea, my friend.” He lifted him high above his head, as if a gift to the universe and his lord.

Digit tinkled.

Lies are necessary, mistakes are fatal, and sins unforgivable.

Hes a priest.

I repeat the words daily in hope that they’ll erase the picture of a perfect man from my mind. I don’t want to look at him intimately, but I can’t stop. Could any woman stop? I’ve seen the way they ogle him and I’ve heard the whispers in town; the ones of committing the unforgivable sin with the new addition to our parish.

Living in Pace was supposed to be easy, and it was, until I began seeing Father Cameron as more than a clergyman. He was kind and quiet. He was that perfect distraction I needed to forget my past.
Now that my body wants him, the pull is even stronger. His presence overpowers the room, his scent lingers in my lungs for hours and his kind heart is slowly healing my pain.

I pray for a resolution to my feelings but it’s not helping. My mind is clouded and my past is catching up to me without my knowledge…

Wanting him is a constant, needing him feels nurturing and resisting him is impossible. After all, forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest, except when it’s poisoned…

A decade ago, Tori Rourke, and her cousin, Vivienne, ran from the Irish mob after witnessing a brutal murder. Tori was framed by the mob, and while she served time in prison, she worried that the killer, Seamus McGinn, had kidnapped her missing cousin.

Attorney Grady D. Fletcher, defender of the wrongly condemned, appeals Tori’s case and wins her release. Now, going by Victoria Morningstar, she runs a food truck from a seedy waterfront neighborhood, hoping to find her cousin's kidnapper.

When Grady agrees to defend a new client, Samuel Peterson, who’s been accused of beating to death the wife of a noted professor, the evidence mounts. The professor is missing, as well as his laptop that contains data dangerous to national security.

And Seamus McGinn is back, and rumors of a massive annihilation is about to begin. As they race to assist the FBI, the bonds between Grady and Tori are about to be tested. It becomes clear Grady and Tori are falling fast for each other, but what to do about it is a different story. He’s a divorced dad who wants more time with his kid. Excerpt:

“Don’t let the anxiety of freedom consume you.”  Attorney Grady Donahue Fletcher clenched his teeth and rehearsed what he’d say to his client, Victoria Morningstar. He’d won her appeal and drove to pick her up at Gladstone Penitentiary. “At least you won’t be placed in solitary.” That was worse.
Six months earlier Grady had phoned a reporter at the Los Angeles Globe. "Drew Barker. Grady Fletcher here.”
“Ah, the lawyer. Calling about a tip?”
“I am. Here's something you can investigate. Tori Morningstar, did she murder Irene Brennan?"
"I wrote that story many years back," the journalist had said. “I assume you have new discoveries.”
"Fraud, illegal testimony. Do you want the story first?" A second passed. "Otherwise, I'll call the Orange County Guardian."
"Okay, okay. We want it."
Three days later Grady had a hand in writing the first article in Drew Barker’s column. "The public labeled Tori Morningstar as an undesirable. Not black and poor, but disfavored, accused, incarcerated, and wrongly condemned. Her cellphone has been recovered. Her call to 911 identified her voice and substantiated screams of the victim in the background. Could she have beaten someone while speaking to dispatch at the same time?"
The reporter had written the second article. "People who get their ideas about criminal lawyers from TV probably would be disappointed in Grady Fletcher. He lacks flash but stands up straight, his posture neither ramrod nor slouched. He doesn't smoke, doesn't wear thousand dollar suits. His voice is soft and low, one of his assets. He speaks truth with a voice inviting confidences."
As nice as that was, Grady’s stomach cramped over pressure and strain from Drew Barker’s final article with the headline, Tori Morningstar, Released Today. Picked up by the online service, Newser, KTLA, and CBS Los Angeles, they planned to broadcast his arrival to escort his client from Gladstone.
Tori’s decade-long prison sentence ended today but with a sobering fear over tomorrow.
When was a July morning this hot? Grady balanced her release papers on his lap as he rolled up one sleeve then the other while gripping the damp steering wheel. Sweat blossomed on his throbbing forehead, wrapped like a python’s grip. He adjusted the dial for the AC and embraced the challenge of helping another client get back on track. Embrace and conquer. Or at least sound like it.

Discover the enchanting story, Harper's Place by Sheryl Winters and don't forget to enter the giveaway at the end of the post for a chance to win a $25 Amazon or BN Gift Card from the author. This tour is sponsored by Goddess Fish Promotions.

GENRE: Romance

Harper Grey is fed up with over-bearing men. Her father wants to sell the family hamburger joint to her brother because a woman could never make it successful.

Harper knows she has the same flair for business as her mother, and sexy Navy SEAL Patrick O’Brien dares her to prove it to the world.

When duty calls and Patrick must leave her side, will Harper be strong enough to make her dream a reality?

Excerpt:

"I'm scared." I'm standing outside of my favorite coffee shop, waiting for the barista to call out my coffee order. My cell phone glued to my ear.

“He should be there any minute right?” Patrick’s warm voice sounds in my ear. He left earlier than either of us wanted last night. With a morning meeting with an old Navy buddy, he had no choice. Is it right to miss someone you’re barely dating?

“Yeah. What if he says no?”

“Then you start looking for a business loan, you do something, anything else,” Patrick replies firmly. “You’ve put in too much prep work just to give it up.”

“You think I can do this.” I hate the way the quiver in my voice makes me feel weak as if I were thirteen again and the tree scraping against my bedroom window is scaring me.

“Harper, you’re the smartest girl I know. You can do anything. You just have to believe. Are you going to be okay? I can head over.”

“You told me last night that you haven’t seen Terry in over five years. You stay there and meet your friend’s train.”

“You’ll be just fine. You know that, don’t you?” The confidence in his voice steadies me.

“One large skinny mocha and a small oregon chai,” the barista shouts.

“I’ve got to go. I’ll call you back later.” Clicking on my cell, I drop it into my pocket. I accept both coffees and head for one of the small tables outside.

“Hey, just in time.” Tony drops onto the empty seat. The mid-morning sun shines on his thinning, dark hair.

Thank God, I take after Mom. If all goes well, I’ll have a full head of hair when I’m sixty. I slide over his skinny mocha.

“Thanks for ordering. I hate to wait. I used to drink Breve’s, full of half and a half and whipped cream, but the Doc yelled at me. Now it’s diet yuck.” He takes a sip of his coffee and shudders. “Dad says you’re dating Patrick O'Brien. That’s an impressive choice…for you.”

“I am dating Patrick that much is true.” I can do this. Tony’s a jerk, but I need the business loan.

“So what is this all about? Please tell me it’s not about that damned restaurant again.”

“I offered to buy Just Burgers from Dad.”

“Dear God why!?”

If I wasn’t so angry, I’d laugh at the look of shock on Tony’s face. “Because I can make something of it, Tony. Don’t do what Dad does, just hear me out. I’ve spent a lot of time researching it.”

“Just Burgers has both feet in the grave, Harper. That restaurant is in a bad neighborhood. Hell, even the clientele has completely given up on it. It would take a miracle to pull it out.” Tony rubs his forehead. “Only an idiot would buy it.” He holds up his left hand with an imperious gesture.

“So you don’t want to hear what I have to say? How can I change this restaurant around? You won’t even go with me to talk to Dad?” I drop my purse onto the table. The folder I so carefully prepared falls out and onto the floor.

“I don’t care about your research. Harper, you’re just like Mom. You want to do something so badly, it doesn’t matter if it’s a good idea or not.” Tony chugs his drink. “Be serious for once. Let this go. I’ve spent the last six months convincing Dad not to sell it to you. Now it’s your turn to run. Take your business degree and go settle down with that Navy guy, raise a couple of kids like mom did.”

My eyes dart from Tony to the Barista calling out more coffee names. Before I know it I’m out of my chair and moving backward. “Sorry,” I mutter to the occupant of the chair behind me, more out of reflex than for any other reason. Everything is so clear now. Tony spent the last year sabotaging me, and I never saw it coming. They’ll let Just Burgers die. I always suspected that Dad held Mom back. Since her death, Just Burgers seemed to go further and further downhill. How far could it have gone if they had supported her? Picking up my coffee I take another swig, tears of anger forming behind my eyes.

“You’re just like Dad. You both know everything, except you’re both so wrong.” My words rise considerably; heads swivel in our direction. “I’m glad I’m like Mom. She had her head on straight. Do you want to know something else? Neither you nor Dad came to my graduation because you couldn’t. You’re both chauvinists. It will never occur to either of you that you could have helped me, but no, you know all.” I air quote. “At least, I’m not afraid of failing. You took the boring route, Tony. Anyone can be an investment counselor. I’m going to do something with my life. And if I don’t, it won’t be because I didn’t try.”

“Now, Harper, stop being stupid. Just think about what I did for you. I saved your life. So go live it. Go get a receptionist job somewhere. Get a job that doesn’t taint your skin with the scent of burnt meat on a daily basis.” Tony shudders.

Stunned, all I can do is stare at him.

“Order up for Lisa, sugar-free caramel latte.”

“I’ll get it myself.” A woman a few seats away snaps at her date.

As if her words were a catalyst, my dream of red walls and Friesen horses appears as vivid as if I had just painted it. I don’t need Just Burgers. I can start my own restaurant! The anger I felt for Tony disappears. I can stand here and argue with him, but that’s what Tony wants. He wants to be the star of his one-sided play. Life as an investment counselor must really be boring if this is what he does for attention. Resolve builds inside me until my body feels as if it’s an oak tree, oozing with strength. I don’t need him; I never needed him. Tony wants me to fail. The only way to prove him wrong is to do this myself!
