WRITERS WRITE...WRITING PARTNERS FEUD ~ INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR COLLEN S. MEYERS

Our alter-egos are taking over:

FROM THE DESK OF
DONA PENZA TATTLE, ESQ.
AND
ASSOCIATE WRYE BALDERDASH

Greetings,

Off to our interview with CBG author, Colleen S. Meyers.

T: (Whispers) “Should I salute?  I mean, after all, she served seven years of active duty and earned three meritorious awards.”

W: “We will treat her like any other author with respect, courtesy, and quirky questions.”

T: “Our questions are not quirky… just seriously bent.” Suddenly looks horrified.  “We forgot the donuts!”

Just then Colleen appears at her door, and Wrye offers her a pack of gum.  “Er, hi, we’re Penza Dona Tattle and Associate Wrye Balderdash and we’re here for your CBG interview.” Does a tap dance “Ta Da!”

C: Colleen grabs the pack of gum. “Doublemint. My favorite.”  She walks further into the room and sits across from Wyre and Tattle. “Thanks for having me.”

T:  “A little birdie told us you have been a Harlequin fan from way back, but you are also a sci-fi aficionado.  Hence, we observe possibly the reason of your mixture of the two genres in your writing.  With that in mind, what space creature from any fantasy or sci-fi world would make your swoon?”

C: “Oh well, swoon. I don’t know about swooning, but I know my favorite authors when I was growing up was David Eddings. His Belgariad series was exceptional. I loved the mixture of fantasy, romance, and humor that characterized his writing.  I remember thinking, “I want to write like that. One day, maybe I will be able to do that.”

W: “Considering your military background and medical career, you appear to be a logical, focused individual, but do you have an eclectic side?  If so, on a scale from one to ten, how eclectic?   Ten being, you are living on the planet Ramura – Homeworld of the Ramurian species or one being you occasionally wear different colored socks.”

C: “ Hrm, well in real life, I am probably a 2, very boring. I deal with people being ill on a daily basis and that can be rough. I want to help them and sometimes I am not able to do that. Thus why I love anything fantasy, be it sci-fi, paranormal, magical realism, or urban fantasy. And in my fantasies, the hero can always help someone, save the day, right the wrong. So in my head, I am totally a 9 or a 10, Supergirl.”

T: “So, tell us, confidentially, we won’t squeal to anyone but our errrr readership, are you secretly in love with the hero of MUST REMEMBER, Marin. And just what would be your perfect date experience with him or would you prefer a Bajoran?”

C: “Oh my god, Marin is like my ideal man. Not perfect, but devoted and loving. That is all you need.  As for an ideal date night. Time alone would be good.” Colleen winks.

W: “How much of you is part of your character Elizabeth ‘Beta’ Camden?”

C: “I think I put a little bit of myself in every heroine. Life is our greatest teacher and inspiration.”

T: “Since you’re a doc, and well Doctor Who is a doc, do you find any similarities in your outlook on the universe?”

C: “Ha! I haven’t really watched too much Doctor Who. I am a Star Trek/Star Wars kinda gal, so I don’t know the answer to that? Do you think I have the same outlook?”

W: “Upon meeting you, I’d say the humor of Doctor McCoy and the togetherness of Doctor Crusher.  Anywho, what universe would you prefer to live in, Star Trek, Star Wars, or Galaxy Quest and why?”

C: “Can I pick a fourth option?  Firefly, for the humor, for the reality and world building. I have a crush on Joss Whedon.”

T: “Ooooh, I think I cast my vote for that universe, too.  Who doesn’t have a crush on Joss Wheldon?:

T/W: All our joking aside, after pursuing your website, we have discovered you’ve been through tragedy, heroism and heart-tugging romance, you are an amazing woman and it has been our honor to interview you. Kudos, on your amazing strength and your upbeat attitude.
Hope you all enjoyed our interview.

Pages or Words: 344 pages

Categories: Fantasy, Fiction, Historical, M/M Romance, Romance

Excerpt:
His dark blond hair falls in waves in front of his eyes, covering them again. I want to see those eyes. Need to see those eyes. He is no longer the scrawny kid who stood before me last spring. He has been working with Corban on strength training, as I suggested a while ago, and is showing much progress. His shirt is pulled tight over his newly developing muscles and my eyes move over his body, taking in his stunning appearance. My breath hitches in my throat as though I have forgotten how to breathe, which is ridiculous since I’ve been doing it all my life without a problem until now.
Ka-Thump, Ka-thump, Ka-thump.
It had started out as a challenge. Did I have the balls to match Brandon’s crazy antics? I thought so, but then, I ran away. Something happened that night to make me run and I have buried it deep, refusing to see it. Refusing to admit it. But it is there, undeniably there, and now as I stand before this man, heart ready to jump out of my chest, I know why. What Brandon suggested is crazy. It’s insane and was completely unexpected, but…It excites me, sends a thrill sparking through my body.
Bloody hell. I’m losing it. This is nuts.
Brandon risked a lot that night. The man all out admitted how he felt about me and I’m standing here, right now, because I need to know, as twisted and confusing as it is, if I feel the same.

Meet the author:

I live in the small town of Petrolia, Ontario, Canada and I am a mother to a wonderful teenage boy (didn't think those words could be typed together...surprise) and wife to a truly supportive and understanding husband, who thankfully doesn't think I'm crazy.

I have always had two profound dreams in life. To fall back hundreds of years in time and live in a simpler world, not bogged down by technology and to write novels. Since only one of these was a possibility I decided to make the other come alive on paper.

I write mm romance novels that take place in fantastical medieval type settings and love to use the challenges of the times to give my stories and characters life.

Excerpt:

Fortunately, a few modern muses were needed to help the original nine handle all the technological advances, so Bliss was offered the job.” Chloe squinted. “By whom?” Bliss elbowed Drake. “We’re not supposed to talk about her with anyone.” “Sorry. I know. It’s really hard to explain without referring to— you know who.” Shannon seemed shy but spoke up at last. “That’s amazing. The gods themselves must have recognized how strong your love was and made it possible for you to be together.” Bliss sighed. “We’ve said too much. Please don’t press it further.” “But…the babe.” She nodded at Bliss’s huge belly. “I thought dragons and humans couldn’t conceive.” Drake nodded. “I gave up my immortality for her. I couldn’t picture living forever without Bliss by my side.” He slipped an arm behind her and rubbed circles on her back. “That’s when it happened.” She rested her head on his shoulder and crooned, “That feels so good.” “Oh. So you run into burnin’ buildings, knowin’ you could die?” Chloe looked stunned. “Yes and no.” He turned toward Bliss and they exchanged a meaningful gaze. “I did that for a short time.” “I had no idea he’d keep fighting fires without being fireproof, as dragons are. Then I couldn’t stand worrying about him.” “Being mortal was actually a good experience,” Drake said. “I realized I had been taking stupid chances and could put my fellow firefighters, who aren’t fireproof, in danger if they followed my lead. I have a renewed respect for what they do now.” Chloe straightened her back. “I’d like to become a firefighter. We’re goin’ to need jobs soon. I can do anythin’ a man can do…and probably better. As you know, I’m stronger than a human and fireproof to boot. It’s a brilliant idea.” She coughed. “O’ course, you thought of it first.” “I can look into it for you. Do you have a believable birth certificate?” “I don’t,” she answered honestly. “A work visa?” “Nor that either.” He sighed. “I’m afraid you can’t get a paying job with the fire department without certain papers.” “Blast.” Her eyes narrowed, and a curl of smoke exited her nostrils. Bliss bailed him out, thank goodness. “What did you do in Ireland?” “Ah,” Rory said with a grin. “We sang at the local pub. Shannon and I composed most of our songs.” Bliss sat up straight. “So you’re Irish folk singers? That’s wonderful! I could probably ask Claudia to give you a gig at the tearoom.” “Who’s Claudia?” Chloe asked. “Oh, she’s my best friend. She’s part owner and manages the place.” The three of them glanced at each other. Rory said, “That sounds grand. Would we need to fill out an application to work there?” “I’ll ask if she can pay you under the counter.” Drake recognized the twinkle in her eye. It meant she would find a way to make it happen.

Eight mortal spirits from vastly different worlds tread the same, inevitable path toward their last, crucial decision. In this rich, harrowing tale of pride, deceit, honor, vengeance, and redemption, each individual must battle their inner turmoil, facing the sacrifices they have made before their unavoidable end in the land of the living.

But their last day in life is also their first day of death amidst the terrors of the underworld. Lord Master Death wants them all…and the real battle has only just begun.

Excerpt:

Aristo reached far within and blocked all the pain shooting through his being. I am Praetorian, my flesh does my bidding. Again, he commanded his eyes to open. When he finally managed to force them open, the agony consuming his head must have felt very much like staring straight into the blazes of the sun. He felt the tearing of skin as his world instantly turned from the darkest black to a moment of brightest white. His eyes watered heavily and he blinked, trying to clear away at least some of the dried blood which had sealed his eyes shut. For several moments, everything was a blur, but then he could distinguish colors and shapes again.

He nearly wished that he had in fact been blinded; he would have at least been spared the image before him. Aristo had been wounded in battle before, but never like this. His body lay covered in a blanket of dried crimson. No one would have known that he bore the deep purple uniform of the Praetorian Legion had they even bothered to look at him. It was confounding that he had bled so profusely and could still draw breath, still feel the beat of his heart within his chest. A moment of warrior’s pride overtook him when he studied his twisted form and realized the excruciating pain was not unwarranted. Then he remembered.

Captured, he thought. I’ve been captured.

Release Blitz for The Arrangement by Brandy Ayers

Title: The Arrangement
Author: Brandy Ayers
Genre: Erotic Romance
Release Date: March 25, 2016

The mind is a tricky thing. No one knows that better than Michelle O’Brian due to maladaptive daydreaming, an undiagnosed disorder that makes HER question the line between reality and fantasy. Forced to change careers after her goal of making a mark in the journalism world implodes, she finds herself unable to stop fantasizing about her new boss. And every other man she comes across. Her uncontrollable daydreams are a problem at work. Not even an orgasm inducing visit to her sexy as hell friend, Russ Seko, can stem the need for her mind to wander. But as it becomes clear that Russ wants more, and her workplace flirting may not be all pretend, things get out of hand. Fast. Caught between two men, trapped by her ambition, and fooled by her own mind, how can Michelle trust anything in her life when dreams seem so real?

Not even bothering to shift his focus back to her face, Russ shrugged. “It’s like a car wreck, I just can’t look away.” The force of Michelle’s laugh threw her head back and she stumbled into the house as she pushed the door open. “Really? My ass is like a car wreck? That’s the best compliment you can come up with?” Keys deposited on the entryway table, she kicked off her heels and padded through to the kitchen in her bare feet. After placing her things by the staircase, he joined her in the kitchen, taking a seat at the island. His eyes followed her as she grabbed a couple hard ciders from the fridge, making her skin tingle with awareness. She popped the tops of both bottles, slid one down the granite countertop to where he sat, and took a slow pull from her own drink. “No, I can do better.” He brought his index finger to his lips, tapping a quick rhythm, feigning deep concentration. “Your ass is scrumptious. Like the first red apple picked from a tree in the fall. Nat King Cole wrote “Unforgettable” about your ass. Those round globes have more magic in them than a wizard’s wand.” Cider sprayed from her mouth as she lost her cool, bellowing with laughter. “Okay, okay, I get it. Your ass ain’t half bad either.” Leave it to Russ to force her mood to lighten after a crappy morning.

Brandy Ayers is a writer of erotic romance. Or romantic erotica, depending on how you look at it. She has been telling stories in one form or another since she was a child and decided her English / Irish heritage was boring. Instead, for a 4th grade class genealogy assignment, she weaved a tale of mystery and intrigue about her great, great grandpa chief of the Navajo tribe. No one bought it. Brandy lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, son, and a very depressed basset hound.
