“Bros stick together no matter what.”

When Chris and Liam made that promise, they had no idea how important it would become or how it would be tested in the most brutal way. Nine years later, their bond cemented in blood, that relationship is all they have to hold on to.

“No matter what happens, this friendship will be the one constant we can count on.”

When Billy and Owen made that promise, they knew exactly how dangerous the world could be. They survived prison by protecting each other and they survived freedom by holding that promise sacred. Now they want more than just to survive and they want it from the brothers whose bond is as strong as their own.

“We are stronger together than we’ll ever be apart.”

When Owen reaches his breaking point, Chris jumps at the chance to make things right for all of them. With the future in their grasp, will they realize their strength is in their numbers and finally become the family they crave?

Author’s Note: This is NOT a foursome, but the story of two couples that needed to be told together.

Pages or Words: 76,000 words

Categories: Gay fiction, M/M Romance, Romance

Excerpt:
That silence hid a lot from their friends, but Liam knew Chris was plagued with memories far worse than his. That’s why they decided not to celebrate alone this year. Billy and Owen were expected any minute and it was the first time they invited anyone to join them. The anniversary was bittersweet for them and they chose to celebrate it because becoming brothers meant that much to them. “Do you think they’ll find it stupid?”
Chris just shrugged as if it was no skin off his back what they thought and Liam knew that was just bravado. Fact was, they both very much cared what the two men thought. “Liar.”
His brother sighed and dropped his head back. As if shit wasn’t fucked up enough, they fell for two bastards just as fucked up as they were. “I know you’re worried about Owen. The business with Colin is growing out of their control and I’m not sure why he thinks it’s a good thing. Is he trying to prove something? And the middle of the night phone calls from the FTR? He’s looking more and more fragile every day.”
Liam knew he wasn’t stating anything new. What he didn’t know was what Chris intended to do about it. Lately, when it came to Owen, Chris conveyed zero intent and seemed to be waiting for Owen to read him as effortlessly as Liam did. Their brother bond had been forged through blood and he was afraid Chris’s expectations of Owen were unreasonable. “Do you see his face every time he thinks he’s failed to understand you? The weight of it is crushing.”
Instead of regret, all Liam saw was anger in Chris. It wasn’t a common emotion for Chris and Liam could name every time he saw it. The fact that Chris knew what he was capable of if provoked had made him extremely conscious of that emotion and he often went to great lengths to contain it.
Owen was the very definition of insecure. Just the type to inspire Chris’s protective instincts, which Liam knew for a fact Owen did. Hell, he inspired Liam’s protective instincts. Owen was stubborn though and he often distanced himself, keeping things bottled up until they manifested elsewhere. Like in panic attacks that felt like heart attacks, which he also tried to hide. Liam nearly lost it when they found out that Billy was keeping Owen’s secret.
Chris nodded slowly, as if he completely followed Liam’s train of thought and waited for him to connect the dots. And just like that, Liam understood. “You’re pissed because he doesn’t come to you when the panic sets in. That he hides it from you and they hide it from us.”
It made total sense, but he had to wonder if they were expecting too much. After all, they couldn’t call what was going on with either man a relationship. No, they were four fucked up bastards trying to come together in some romanticwhat? Not a foursome, eww…he loved Chris, but yeah, that just wasn’t happening. And Owen wasn’t his type any more than Billy was Chris’s type. But—always with the fucking buts, right?—what was happening was very definitely happening to the four of them, and Liam now had to wonder if that was the problem, because trying to come together was definitely not the same as being together.
Chris shook his head and shifted in his seat. No, he was right. It wasn’t just their brother bond that made it impossible to move forward as two separate couples. Billy and Owen had formed their own unique friendship in prison and were no more likely to move forward without the other one either. “Just once, couldn’t we have done something the easy way?”
The fire door banged open and Liam turned to see Billy and Owen, arms full of brightly wrapped packages, struggling to pull a huge cluster of balloons through the door. It was a shocking contrast to their dark thoughts and so uncharacteristically sweet of both men. Billy caught their surprised stare and yelled, “Is this where the party’s at?”
“It is now.” It might seem silly, but it was exactly what they needed and exactly who they needed it from. Maybe they hadn’t been expecting too much at all. Liam rose to give them a hand and glanced down to see the look of longing in Chris’s eyes and thought maybe it was time they all expected more.

Meet the author:

Like many readers, the dream of being a writer has been with me a long time. After three decades of trying, I'd begun to doubt. Thanks to social media, I followed my favorite authors hoping to glean some words of wisdom as I pounded out half-formed ideas with alarming regularity. Two repetitive themes emerged: to be a great writer you must read a lot and your butt must be in the chair every day like it's a job. The more you write, the easier it will be to write and the better you will be at writing. I took that advice to heart and write every day. With six published books to date, three series in the works and a full schedule of releases planned for the next two years, it's been amazing to have made this dream my reality.

I am a firm believer in marriage equality, love at first sight, power dynamics and happily ever after. I'm a lover of strong secondary characters and series filled with families, biological or chosen. All are themes you'll find throughout my books.

Now lets check out Coreene Callahan's Fury of a Highland Dragon....

GENRE: Paranormal Romance

Trapped by a future she refuses to face…

Accused of cyber espionage by the United States government, ethical hacker Ivy Macpherson is now on the FBI’s most wanted list. Out of options, she runs, desperate for time to prove her innocence. When fate takes an unexpected turn, bringing her face-to-face with Tydrin, she must decide—trust a man more dangerous than the hunters on her trail to keep her safe. Or risk capture by a covert agency well known for ruthlessness.

Condemned by a past he doesn’t want to remember…

Cursed with a terrible temper, Scottish dragon-warrior Tydrin struggles to atone for a mistake that took innocent lives. Unable to forgive himself, he returns to the scene of his crime in hopes of finding absolution, but discovers a woman in need of his help instead. Intervening in the nick of time, he whisks Ivy to safety, only to realize the daughter of the family he wronged is the one destined to steal his heart.

Sneak Peek Excerpt:

To kill or not to kill. That was the question.

Gaze locked on the FBI agent, Tydrin debated a moment. It wouldn’t take much. A flick of his fingers. A little swirl, a lot of arm action combined with a burst of magic and…poof gone. Fireball central and two dead agents, nothing but human ash spread over the cruel lines of a desolate cemetery. Kind of fitting, actually. Way too tempting, but well…shite. He couldn’t do it. Not with the lass in his arms and his dragon half in full protection mode.

Ivy needed help, not added trouble.

And a couple of dead agents? Tydrin pursed his lips. Aye. For sure. Not the best way to get on the lass’s good side.

Under his influence, soothed by his magic, he cradled her closer. She sighed and settled in, curling up like a well fed kitten in his arms. The underside of his chin brushed the top of her head. Her long damp hair clung to his skin, getting caught in old day stubble. He rubbed his mouth over the soft strands. A sense of peace invaded him body, mind and heart. His muscles loosened, releasing some of the tension. He exhaled in relief. Hmm, she was sweet. So alluring with her dark red hair and pale, freckled skin. Far too pretty to be a fugitive. Hunted. Trapped. Wanted by the FBI.

Way too vulnerable without him to protect her.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Growing up as the only girl on all-male hockey team, Coreene Callahan knows a thing or two about tough guys and loves to write characters inspired by them. Call it kismet. Call it payback after years of locker room talk and ice rink antics, but whatever you call it, the action better be heart stopping, the magic electric, and the story wicked, good fun.

After graduating with honors in psychology and working as an interior designer, she finally gave in and returned to her first love: writing. Her debut novel, Fury of Fire, was a finalist in the New Jersey Romance Writers Golden Leaf Contest in two categories: Best First Book and Best Paranormal. She combines her love of romance, adventure and writing with her passion for history in her novels. She lives in Canada with her family, a fun-loving golden retriever, and her wild imaginary world.

Book Review- Autumn Thorns by Yasmine Galenorn

An introduction to the dark and spooky world that makes up Whisper Hollows from master storyteller, Yasmine Galenorn.

My Rating for Autumn Thorns: 5 Stars and a Recommended Read

In Whisper Hollow, the spirits walk among you, magic is alive and the residents are more than a little odd. But for Kerris Fellwater, she was coming home after fifteen years away. Now she is taking the mantle of spirit shaman after her grandmother died and finds more questions than answers as she reacquaints herself to the town and friends there. But danger is circling the town and murder is the end game. With the help of her new neighbor, Bryan and some friends, Kerris will have to figure it out before the enemy that is trying to infiltrate the town sets their sights on Kerris.

I got to admit whenever this author has a new book out, I put whatever I am reading down and go immediately to her new book. She is just that damn good! This is an author who weaves a spell around her readers the moment they open one of her books. She is an expert storyteller who knows how to intrigue the reader, entice them and keep their attention as they flip the pages to see what happens next. Her latest book is an introduction to her new series, Whisper Hollows, and boy does it deliver! We got spirits, magic, evil and romance all rolled up in a ball with a bow on it. Ms. Galenorn weaves a story full of intriguing characters, a town that just calls to you to visit and a mystery that sets up a series that will surely become just as popular as her last ones (Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon, Indigo Fey, etc). All I know was when I turned the last page; I was left waiting for more. I wanted to see what would happen next for Kerris & Bryan and the rest of the cast of characters that I quickly fell in love with. The story moves at a nice pace, the author’s world building just blows my mind and multi-dimensional characters that stole my heart right from the beginning. This is an author who knows how to tell a story that dark, deadly and full of things that go bump in the night.

Meet Kerris Fellwater. After being away from Whisper Hollow for fifteen years, she finds herself called back to the town after her grandparents die and finds more questions than answers when she gets there. For Kerris is now the town’s spirit shaman and she has to figure out her powers, the town and more all the while trying to stay one step ahead of an enemy that is determined to destroy  her and the town. I love Kerris. She is a strong female character that just resonated with me. She is complicated, determined and knows to do her duty as the spirit shaman but there is a steep learning curve to overcome. The sparks fly with Bryan
and I loved seeing these two together. The sex scenes are so hot, I swore my book was about to catch itself on fire. The secondary characters are a delight to know. They are just as entertaining and intriguing as the main characters were.

What blew me away was how much darker this book was than her other series such as the Otherworld series and the Indigo Court books. The different spirits alone made me shiver and fear as well as the different residents’ abilities made the story so much stronger in my opinion. AUTUMN THORNS is a world class story that will suck you in until the very last page is read. Now all I got to ask is how long till book two is here?

WRITERS WRITER...LITERARY PARTNERS FEUD ~ We Didn't Leave Ya Hangin'

A:  Where are they?
Z:   How am I supposed to know?
A:  You told them to come today, right?
Z:  (Zi looks at his coffee stained, smudge calendar, turns his head one way and then the other)  Errrr, yeah, yeah, today.
A:  Guess I should say something, you think?
Z:  (Nods seriously while taking quick looks out the closest window.
A:  Betcha you thought we totally forgot about our alter egos DONA PENZ TATTLE, ESQ., who tattles on every naughty hunk or hotties she can find, and her cohort dashing ASSOCIATE WRYE BALDERDASH, who spies on the devilish divine and their upcoming Tattle and Wrye Award.
Z:  Well, we are here to tell you, they have not disappeared nor has the award.  They have just been battling.... errr we mean debating on just the right book that has just the right chemistry that merits the title....    Wait.... wait.... wait....  They're here.  Yea!

The pair of Literary Leap Lovers greet their peers, and then inch closer to the curtain and peek into the readership.
T:    I'm not going out there.  You are.  I like my little leap into books not on to stages.
W:  It would do you good to face some real characters rather than just fake one.
T:    Are you calling real people characters?
W:   Where do you think we get our ideas from?
The couple looks back at Angelica and Zi who are taping their feet to get them moving toward the state.  They gulp, take a breath and a step forward.

W:  You should be announcing this. (whispers, still backstage)
T:    Nope, you were the inspired one.  My title was boring.
W:  It was.... errr... creative...
T:   Yours was much more so.  (She flits out her hand toward the stage)  People are waiting.  (She gives him a little shove.)
(Before he can stop himself, Wrye stumbles into the spotlight.  He blinks, polishes his top hat with his tux's coat sleeve, places it perfectly on his head, looking wonderfully dapper and debonaire and opens his mouth but as he is ready to speak, he is interrupted.
T:  (Tattle appears next to him.  {Angelica had given the little lady a double hand thrust toward the stage and she grabbed onto Wrye's arm to keep from falling)  Errr, ummm... so without further pomp or tittle-twaddle I present to our readers, aliens, creatures, and folks of diversifying natures, my very own associate Wrye Balderdash, who will explain our award, its qualifications and announce the long awaited title!
W:  (tittle-twaddle he mouths at Tattle then clears his throat, grins a sheepish crooked grin and broadcasts with all the panache of an olde world court crier)  First and foremost my dear fellow readers. A bit over a year ago, we began reviewing some exciting, entertaining and engaging books from the CHAMPAGNE BOOKS GROUP.  (A few applauds erupt and he offers several polite nods, perhaps a few two many, and Tattle gives him a gentle back tap to get him started again)  So, as I am certain you have notices over several various weeks we posted seven reviews and the final will be appearing in two weeks time, giving all (and us he mutters) time to fully emerge ourselves in the totality and plot lines of all the books thus far.  Hence allowing all to figure out which book will best fit our well-thought through, out and about, inside and upside down award!
T:   Ut oh....
W:  What do you mean.... Ut Oh?
T:    Ummm, we ran out of time.
W:  Time?  No one said anything about a time limit.  Before we leave all you eager readers, we'd like to announce the title of our first annual award on the author of one of the books we have reviewed.
T:  You can imagine how difficult it will be to choose among these outstanding stories, and excellent craftsmanship."
W:  Almost as challenging as choosing a name for the award.  Wrye, with peacockish pride, pokes Tattle in the ribs with his elbow.)  Tell them. (Then without giving her a chance blurts out.)

THE FABULOUS FICTION FABRICATOR FEATHER IN THE FEDORA, WRYE TOAST FROM BALDERDASH AND TATTLE... JAM OPTIONAL AWARD, DENOTING THAT BALDERDASH BABBLES AND TATTLE PRATTLES AND GOOD WRITERS WRITE WELL...

TAA DAA!  WITH BOW AND CURTSY

T:   Wait a second, m'winded friend, that was three or more of the titles we were considering?

W:  And since we couldn't make up our minds, I think this is perfect."
T:  You think?  I don't think so. Then again....
T:  (Tattle mutters) "Oh boy, we're in trouble!"
W  (He grins his crooked, over-confident grin)  "It is soooo us!"
T:   (Tattle chases after him as he leaves the stage.)

Angelica and Zi exchange glances and finally shrug.

A:  Ummmm, well that's all folks, until next time, keep reading!

Excerpt:
Feeling more confident and realising that I have to ‘project a confident and professional air to reassure the resident and help to ease them into the new surrounding and routine that mark their transition from the institutional environment and the radically different routine and environment of a residential setting’, I compose myself.  Yeah, I know, I’m a geek with a photographic memory, although knowing the rules doesn’t necessarily mean I always follow them.
“Silver,” I say softly as I shake him gently by the shoulder.  I wonder how many times he has heard a smirk in the voice that calls him by name.  I know that I have, often enough.
With a sigh the figure in the bed turns over, flinging out an arm with a soft moan.  I freeze.  Fucking hell... I mean what the fuck.... fucking HELL.
He is nothing like I had expected, not that I had really been expecting anything, but with a name like Silver I had kind of expected him to be fair; ash blonde or something.  But he isn’t.  He’s dark, very dark.  His hair is jet black and long, and even tangled and dry as it is; it makes me want to run my fingers through it.  I can imagine myself gently tugging out the knots and running conditioner down the length of it, strand by strand.  It would be soft and silky and....
Shit! And that’s just his hair.  The things I want to do with those lips. Fuck.  Never in my wildest dreams had I ever imagined.... Gods he is beautiful; not just cute like Max, not handsome or pretty or any of the other words used to describe how someone looks; he isn’t even drop dead gorgeous: he is beautiful, simple as.  Lying there with his hair all over the place, his long coal black lashes trembling on his milk white cheeks, one arm thrown out revealing the creamy skin and well defined muscles of his bare shoulders and chest he is a fucking angel... a real, living, breathing, flesh and blood angel.
Gods damn them; they knew.  The bastards knew the effect he would have on me and all the giggling and snickering now make sense.  Shit, I am practically creaming my pants just looking at him.  I shake my head and laugh at myself.  Get a grip, River.  Just keep your mind above your waist and remember that this is a resident, a patient, a sick person who needs you to be strictly professional and... Ah fuck, why did he have to stir right at this moment?  Why did he have to let out that cute little sigh that parts his lips and makes me want to... to...  Shit!!!!
Moving his head from side to side drowsily on the pillow, Silver gives a sleepy little grunty moan thing and yawns showing absolutely perfect white teeth... of course, although I notice that there is a gap right at the back on the bottom.  I don’t know why but that makes me smile; somehow, something that mars that perfection, even to such a slight degree, is a huge relief.
Just when I am managing to get myself under control and have a goofy smile on my face, Silver opens his eyes.  If I had thought that Silver with his eyes closed was beautiful, Silver with his eyes open is... unreal.  At least now I understand why he is called Silver.  His eyes are grey, a strange pale silvery grey with an almost metallic sheen, like mercury.  For a full minute I just stare at him and he stares back.  There is no curiosity in his eyes, no fear, no challenge; no anything.  I have never seen eyes that are so blank.
Quite suddenly it occurs to me that I am staring and really not being very professional at all. I force myself to smile, a tight professional smile and not the goofy grin that is threatening to break out at any moment.
“Hello Silver, my name is River, did you sleep well?”
The silver grey eyes regard me steadily but there is no indication that he has even heard me let alone understood me.  I broaden my smile and try again.
“It’s morning, Silver, time to get up.  Do you need me to help you with that?”
At last there is a reaction, just a tiny shake of the head.  The silver eyes flicker and with a sigh he throws back the quilt and I am blinded.  At least I wish I had gone blind because if I had I wouldn’t have been staring at that body with quite so much raw hunger.  Fuck he is beautiful all over.
Turning away I walk to the chest of drawers, hoping that he had brought some clothes with him.  The first drawer contains pyjamas and I wonder why the hell they hadn’t put any on him last night, although a moment’s reflection supplies the answer: bastard.
Trying to keep my face turned and my eyes well above the waist I hand Silver the pyjamas.
“Can you put these on?”
Without making a sound he takes the clothes from my hands and slips them on.  I have to watch, I just can’t help it.  I don’t know what kind of condition he was in before whatever happened, happened, or when he woke up out of the coma but those physiotherapists have sure done one amazing job over the past six months.  He is slender, even thin, but so well defined that, even through the cotton pyjamas it is possible to see that he is toned to perfection, every muscle group well defined.
Shit, he’s fucking perfect in every way.  And when he starts to walk...
My great grandmother used to be a dancer, way back in the twenties. She was something of a celebrity back then, and I can remember my grandfather talking about her with fierce pride on his face.  When he was a child he used to go to the theatre to watch her practice and perform and he would say that even when she was not on the stage, even when she was just walking down the street, across a room, getting on a train; she was always dancing.  He used to say she ‘walked lightly on the earth’. I have always remembered that phrase - walked lightly on the earth - and I thought I knew what he meant... until now.
Damn those physiotherapists have done a good job, a great job, there isn’t so much as a hint of a limp and he stands very erect with his head up and... walks lightly on the earth. It’s hard to describe, but he flows, hardly making a sound, so lightly that it makes you feel that he wouldn’t make a footprint in snow.
He pauses in the doorway, waiting.  I am staring again.  “Do you dance Silver?” The words just slip out.  I forget that he doesn’t know, that he doesn’t want to know; it’s just that the way he walks makes me think so much of my great grandmother that I am suddenly sure that he must be a dancer too.

Meet the author:
Nephy Hart was born into a poor mining family in the South Wales Valleys. Until she was 16, the toilet was at the bottom of the garden and the bath hung on the wall. Her refrigerator was a stone slab in the pantry and there was a black lead fireplace in the kitchen. They look lovely in a museum but aren’t so much fun to clean.
Nephy has always been a storyteller. As a child, she’d make up stories for her nieces, nephews and cousin and they’d explore the imaginary worlds she created, in play.
Later in life, Nephy became the storyteller for a re enactment group who travelled widely, giving a taste of life in the Iron Age. As well as having an opportunity to run around hitting people with a sword, she had an opportunity to tell stories of all kinds, sometimes of her own making, to all kinds of people. The criticism was sometimes harsh, especially from the children, but the reward enormous.
It was here she began to appreciate the power of stories and the primal need to hear them. In ancient times, the wandering bard was the only source of news, and the storyteller the heart of the village, keeping the lore and the magic alive. Although much of the magic has been lost, the stories still provide a link to the part of us that still wants to believe that it’s still there, somewhere.
In present times, Nephy lives in a terraced house in the valleys with her son, dog, hamster and two cats. Her daughter has deserted her for the big city, but they’re still close. She’s never been happier since she was made redundant and is able to devote herself entirely to her twin loves of writing and art.

Talking with author Hannah Walker

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Hannah Walker author of Corin’s Chance
Hi Hannah, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.

Why do you write?
For the love of the stories. Because these stories and these men are in my head and if I can make even one person enjoy them when they read them, well that makes me happy.

Which of your books was the most difficult to write?
Definitely Tate’s book. It’s a much more emotional read then Corin’s was. I cried both while writing a couple of scenes and editing them. Battle scenes are always hard, keeping an eye on positioning and who is where can be a challenge as there are so many things going on at the same time. Although I think I found that part harder in Corin’s book.

Give us an insight into your main character. What does he/she do that is so special?
Corin is one of those people who is incredibly selfless. HE would put anyone before himself, it’s instinctual for him. As a doctor he is gifted, but that’s been because he sacrificed other parts of his life to focus on becoming the best that he can be. Each time he loses someone on the operating table it hurts him deeply, he sees it as his own failing.
He is a fully trained trauma surgeon so he needs to have nerves of steel and is especially calm in a crisis.
If you were to ask him though, he would say he isn’t special merely good at his job.

How much research do you do for your books?
Being Sci Fi, a lot of it is imagination. Although the science is inherent to me. I have a degree in chemistry and I’m definitely what you would consider a science geek so the science behind it second nature to me.
I will research things. Like military ranks. It becomes harder sometimes to know what to use, for example I’m English but there are a lot of U.S. readers. So I sometimes have to research what will work best. Although I do have someone double check my medical parts to make sure they are realistic and consistent. While it is set in the future and Sci Fi I wouldn’t want something so outrageous that it pulls the readers out of the moment.

Who designs your covers?
Cover Art by Kellie Dennis at Book Cover by Design www.bookcoverbydesign.co.uk

I think she did an amazing job with Corin’s book and am really excited to see what she comes up with throughout the series. We have some fantastic ideas planned.

Now let's take a sneak peek into Hannah Walker's Corin's Chance, which looks like a yummy read *grins*....

Excerpt:
With a nod to one of the four guards at the door's entrance, Carn led them into the room. Following behind him, they walked right up to the massive table sat at the end. Around the table were stood six men, they must have ranged in ages from late teens to mid-sixties. They all looked weary and haggard, their bodies drooping where they stood. Maps, paperwork and cups littered the table in front of them.
One of them turned to Carn who was standing at the front of Corin’s group. "Damn it, Carn, I told you we weren't to be disturbed for anything. I don't care who the latest bloody delegate from the Alliance is. Now is not the time." A huge frown accompanied the man’s words.
"Laird Kel, these aren't delegates. I think you are going to want to hear this. They came asking for you as Kel, saying it was about a young girl named Eliya," Carn cautiously spoke, wary of upsetting any of the men around the table.
All around them heads shot up from what they were focused on. Suddenly every pair of eyes in the room was focused on them with a laser like intensity.
"What do you know about Eliya?" The man named Kel demanded.
Corin watched as he stalked towards them. His movements, while predatory, were graceful. He was close to seven feet of solid planes and hard muscles. His skin was a golden bronze which seemed to glisten in the lights around him. His hair was a mid-blonde, and flowed to just past his shoulders. Leather bracers covered his forearms while second, smaller leather circlets were wrapped around each bicep. Leather trousers were moulded to his thighs. Corin’s heart began to beat faster. Never had a first glance at someone affected him as it did now.
Laird Kelin was rugged in appearance. While still young, his face had a slightly rugged visage which was likely due to many hours spent outdoors. His eyes were both brown and green, with the green bleeding into the brown on the outer edges. He had a strong nose, coupled with a square jaw, and a dusting of facial hair, that just added to his overall ruggedness.
Corin’s cock went from soft, to rock hard and aching instantly. Damn this was a man he would happily have under him, over him, inside him. In fact, he would take him any which way he could. Tate shot Corin a questioning glance and Corin realised he hadn't been able to hide his reaction from his friend.
Shooting a glance at Tate and shaking his head, Corin boldly stepped forward. “I need to know who you are to Eliya before I can say anything.”
A second later one of the other men stood around the table jumped over it, and was hurtling towards Corin with a look of murderous intent on his face. Just as he got to Corin, he threw a punch that never landed. Instead, Tate stepped between Corin and Eliya, who was still asleep in the sling, and this new man. The punch hit him square in the abdomen, the pain was instantaneous, he staggered back, all the air gone from his lungs. Tate could feel his stitches rip open from the impact. Trying to suck in a deep breath, he called on all his years of training with the Avanti and pushed the pain into the recesses of his mind and forced his body back to standing whilst simultaneously pulling his knife from the sheath at his side.
“Make another move towards him again and I’ll kill you. You want him? You have to go through me first, and I promise you, I. Will. Win. You have no idea what you nearly did there.” Tate growled at the man, his stance wide, both aggressive and defensive at the same time.
“Do you know who I am?” The new man demanded as he bared his teeth at Tate.
“No,” Tate replied. “And frankly, I don't care. Now. Back. The. Fuck. Off.”
They watched as the man named Kel placed a restraining arm across the other man’s chest. “Leave it, Tir, let me deal with this. I mean it. We won't find anything out if we beat them. They came to us willingly, give them a chance to explain.”
They all watched the man called Tir run his hands over his face before he gave a small nod and took two small steps back.
Kel raised an eyebrow at him, sighed and then turned back to Corin. There were several emotions swirling through his gaze, but his voice was calm when he spoke again. “I am Laird Kelin Tharn, son of the Chieftain of this clan and Eliya is my niece, Laird Tirathon Tharn is her father. She was kidnapped two weeks ago with her nurse when they were walking the grounds. We have heard nothing since. There has been no ransom demands, no sightings, nothing. We have searched and searched and no trace has yet been found. The entire clan is grief stricken. As you can see, my brother is barely holding it together. Now. What. Do. You. Know.” His voice rose slightly as he struggled not to let his impatience show.
Corin looked at Tate, his eyes registering the fact the Tate looked clammy once again, they nodded to one another and Corin reached up to slowly untie the cloak from around him. He gently lifted the sleeping form of Eliya from the sling before looking up at Kel and quietly asking, “is this her?”
Gasps echoed all round, a choked sob came from Tir's direction before he quickly lifted her from Corin’s arm, tears streaming down his face. Smiles shone around the room as a small voice whispered, “Papi?”
Quickly a group surrounded the reunited father and daughter, cheers echoed around the room. A wave of happiness ran through the chamber and out the doors as word passed from one guard to another. Shouts of joy could be heard from the hallways as the news spread. A soft whimper from beside Corin saw him snapping his head to look at Tate.
